Re: [JAWS-Users] Microsoft Access Large Tables

2017-06-29 Thread Annette Carr
Hi Matt,

Here are 2 ideas that are really grasping at straws. First see if changing
your display resolution makes a difference. Next, if at all possible run
the same version of Access and JAWS on a different machine and see how that
goes.

When you are using your file, is the application or the file being accessed
from a network instead of from your local computer?

HTH,
Annette

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Microsoft Access Large Tables

Hello list,

I've got an issue I've been fighting with for a long time, and just recently
was told about this list! Here's my issue in short - I have an Access
database with a table with about 12,000 records. Starting at version 17,
when I open the table in Datasheet view, JAWS and Access crash if I attempt
to either go to the ribbons or use the Application key.

I have seen this in Office 2010, 2013 and 2016, on Windows 7, 8.1, and 10,
on various hardware, desktops and laptops.

In JAWS 16 and earlier, no issue.

VFO support tried using my database on the latest JAWS build and Office 2016
(back in January), and claimed they could not replicate the problem. (?)

In general, I like to keep running the current version of things, if for no
other reason than the security updates, and it's kind of a pain if I want to
go in and sort or filter my table to find certain things.

Anyone out here have some thoughts? Appreciate all your help!

Kind regards,
Matt

Re: [JAWS-Users] Microsoft Access Large Tables

2017-06-29 Thread Dave ...
Matt,

First, JAWS underwent a major change in their object-modeling scheme with
version 17, so differences between 16 and later version are usually fairly
significant. I surmise that JAWS 17 and later are larger memory occupants,
and possibly even impose on formerly sacrosanct memory areas for other
programs and overflow -- again just a guess.

MS-Access to me has always been a problem. Very old versions of JAWS had
scripts to work with very early versions of MS-Access, but I believe support
for MS-Access fell by the wayside long ago. This might mean that there are
no reliable scripts to help JAWS function in MS-Access.

I wonder if you were to export your data tables into MS-Excel format, would
you have more success? I find Excel to still be a very reliable program when
working with vast amounts of data. In fact, when I used both MS-Access and
MS-Project in my job, I would routinely export/import to/from Excel in order
to manipulate the data to work in Access and Project. Excel was the champion
for me.

So although no remedy to your problem, I'm proposing a couple suspicions as
to your problems.

I am needing to use access 2007, with jaws 13 or 14. I know how use
access, when I was sighted, but with jaws I don't know how create a
relational data base, how create a query, and how access all tools of

How or who can help me a little bit with this issue?
