Re: [JAWS-Users] Trapeze Booking Software
Hello Reese, I am very interested in the work you mentioned that Comcast was working with VR, in Georgia. I live in Indiana and would like to share the Georgia Comcast findings with the Comcast folks here in Indiana. Please contact me off list: mcelroy...@gmail.com or tj.mcel...@comcast.net I think that it is good news that the ZoomText users are being given a chance to become employed with Comcast. With others working on the screen reader side of things maybe we will be able to say that screen reader users will one day be able to work for Comcast also. Let's keep this discussion focused on Jaws, and not about jobs and employer practices and accessibility in employment situations. Thank you, Richard Q. However, our federal government is probably one of the largest offenders of not purchasing software and hardware that is accessible. And the federal government is the responsibility of the President and Congress. And I think many employers are fully supportive of this to retain or get a good employee. Although assistive technology like Jaws has helped the blind, every time we turn around, something that was accessible is no longer accessible because of some change in software or hardware. And unfortunately, we all must master our access technology like Jaws because sometimes we can come up with solutions that are already within the capability of jaws. Good luck to all who are still of working age. And thanks to all who are working to make the promise of technology a reality. Re: [JAWS-Users] Trapeze Booking Software
My big issue with trying to get help through these issues when interviewing, or my one medical transcription internship I did get through awhile ago is where to tell DVR to call to have someone maybe write some scripts for the things that did otherwise require sighted assistance. I live in Wisconsin, and some of this seems like uncharted territory. I could give them out of state places found on blind programming, but it didn't seem like DVR wanted to bring them in. - Original Message - From: "John R Vaughn" To: Sent: Friday, March 09, 2012 11:52 AM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Trapeze Booking Software Jerry, to follow up on your question, the usual test is reasonable accommodation and the reasonable accommodation to mitigate the problem. I also suspect that the local transit company receives federal funds and must make the job accessible to you, a possible employee. In my training consulting job, I have gone into possible employment sites with VR clients and been allowed to either get a copy of the software to try or put jaws on one of the business's computer to take the software for a test drive. I am not suggesting you need to make a lot of noise at this point in time, but pursue your own interest with the available resources including the screen reader vender and state resources. This is particularly true if you meet the qualifications for the job. You might also want to check with the company's that make other screen readers to see if there is any one of these that is accessible with the product. Hopefully, the software will work either out of the box or with some scripting. And Jaws is a powerful program with all the new capabilities of this product I have used since 1990.
