I mostly came across this when using windows burner. The cd is seen and can be played, but not copied between other versions of windows. It mostly happens going from like win7 to xp. Bad burn or a bad drive on your laptop. I'd try burning at a slower speed and see if the laptop will read that. If you just need to move files, their may be simpler ways to do it.
