[JAWS-Users] can the 20-digit authorization be retrieved without using a disc

2013-12-13 Thread joanne
First, is it true that starting with Jaws 13 we all received a new 20-digit
authorization code and couldn't use the one we had in Jaws 12? I don't know
where I heard this but thought I'd heard that starting at 13 our codes would be
different. I am asking because I have 13, 14 and now 15 on my computer but
when I tried activating 15 it said the code I entered was for an earlier
version of Jaws and wouldn't work. But I can't get Jaws 14 to tell me what
code is in it because it works just fine and fully functional. I don't have a
disc with me and really want to take Jaws 15 out of demo and wondered if I
could somehow retrieve my code from Jaws 14 and paste that code into the
activation of Jaws 15. I hope someone can help.

Hi,
No, the code did not change with JAWS 13. As far as I know, you cannot
retrieve the code from JAWS. When was the last time that you bought a SMA?
It sounds like you are not authorized for JAWS 15.
Thanks,
Scott Duck

Not from within JAWS.
You should give FSActivate a try though.

2013-12-13 Thread Vincent Chaney Jr.
Some of us Old Time JAWS Users, I go back to JAWS 2.0, did not have an
authorization disk. In the old time, my JAWS came on a 3.5 floppy disk and
had recorded cassettes for the tutorials/training. If I remember, there was
either a file on another disk I received or a braille or print of the
authorization key and maybe I created the braille.
Why this history? Well, whenever I upgrade my version of JAWS, I have to
look up my authorization and type it in. One other laugh to some, I still
use my Braille-n-Speak 2000 and that is where I keep my key (smiles).
Without such an Authorization Disk, you have to type in your 20 digit key
whether loading JAWS from the DVD or the download method.

The authorization file is nothing more than simple text, I saved mine a long

Hello Hamit:
I don't think you can make an authorization CD yourself, and I don't think
FS will send you one because they have no way of verifying your story that
you lost the first one to begin with.
But, I'm guessing if you know sufficient programming you can find it.
It should be under program files/Freedom Scientific/Authorization, in one of
those dll files, at least that's for JAWS 15.
If you decide to try and find it though you have to be very careful as those
files are crucial for JAWS and any accidental changes can damage the
program.
That's the only way I can think of finding it if you can't get it any other
way though.

Actually, this thread brings up a good point. How do you get it if you
should loose the authorization CD? I know FS will give it to you. But what
about an authorization CD? Would they send you one? If you are a geek and
know how to do it, could you still make one? Interesting points I've thought
of, but never really asked. Thankfully I still have the CD I made during the
time of Vista and it still works. But just out of curiousity I ask. Also for
future reference.

David and Stanley,

We, the longtime JAWS Users, got the JAWS floppies in a very eloquently
designed plastic or vinyl packaging that was very well presented. The
floppies securely were separated and placed into separate pockets for each
disk. This must have been expensive but a good eye catching promotion for
the sighted whom we worked with or the people who saw our software and
training tapes. Just a little history from back in the mid 1990's and JAWS
2.0 for those of us on the JAWS Users...
