Perhaps you need to alt-F4 on that?  Or, ctrl-F4 if there is something else 
opened in the pdf.

Thanks for the info. I was afraid of closing the whole program down but forgot
about control f4.  Talk about a brain fart.  The program was trying to lock up
my whole computer anyway.  My sighted husband who is a whiz with computers tells
me that his does that sometimes too.  I think FF3 actually handled PDF documents
and pages better, though I won't change to it again for quite a while.  Thanks
again.
