I had simular expirience, but only my startup sound didn't work. It was
because of a setting for a faster boot, but unfortunately I did not learn
how and where to change it.
But the things on your machine may be different.

hi there listers I'm facing a strange problem with my windows sound theme,

every I start my computer the xp sound doesn't appear to be working and
outlook doesn't notify me of new messages I'm using realtec soundcard and
yes I've checked the sound theme in control panel everything is in working
order I even tried setting up a new theme but it seems that its not
