My computer is erratic, sometimes faster but mostly slow until it just stops to catch its breath for a minute or so. Very frustrating. So what do you think? If ie 9 is more suited to windows 7, should I go ahead and try ie8? Can I return to ie7 once I have gone to ie 8? Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated. IE8 hasn't been out all that long. IE8 introduced phishing filters, in-private browsing, and probably some other things. I know multi-tab browsing started with IE7. - Original Message - From: "Kimsan" To: Sent: Wednesday, January 18, 2012 6:38 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] what to do about internet explorer I have never used I e 7 and when I began using computers, I started with verion eight. Re: [JAWS-Users] what to do about internet explorer
I'm almost afraid to sing the praises of IE 9 right now, but just recently like yesterday upgraded from 8 and I am running win 7, I've really noticed some good improvements, speed being one of them. I will also say, IE 9 took my settings from 8 and incorporated them. Another thing too, Jaws 13 seems to be responding better with IE 9 especially when it came to the sound for the edit box's. I was experiencing some studdering with jaws when it encountered this in IE 8. Well, now that I've said this, let's hope it doesn't revert back, I'm knocking on my wooden head just in case, lol Trish - Original Message - From: "Steve" To: Sent: Wednesday, January 18, 2012 4:58 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] what to do about internet explorer Marilyn, Yes, you can return to IE7 if you want. But, the user interface as I recall for IE8 is very similar. There are some different options that you can choose to use or not, like phishing filters and private browsing, but you don't have to use those. IE9 is available only for Vista dnd Windows 7, but I know many Win 7 users who still use IE8. IE8 is better than IE7 because it is more secure. Now, there may be other issues which are causing your slowness issues. We really need more details to determine anything. For example, is it only the internet that appears to slow down i.e. pages load slowly, or does it happen even on other tasks or well after a page is fully loaded. How many tasks are in your task manager? And, how much memory does your computer have? There are also things that could be slowing IE down; you could try removing your temporary files to see if that helps. You could also have internet connectivity issues; I seem to have those fairly often with SBCGlobal and have to occasionally reset the modem by powering it off and then back on again after a minute. If you have a router connected to the modem, you have to disconnect the router's power as well, then plug the modem power back in before you plug the router back in. If you need more ideas on troubleshooting slowness issues, you can write me off-list and I can give you some other suggestions. That part of your problem I'm afraid would stray outside of Dave and Rick's guidelines on this list. Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.
