Re: [JAWS-Users] which Microsoft suites are most Jaws accessible?

2009-07-16 Thread First CRC Tom Vos
I have worked with Microsoft Word extensively.
Word 2007 has a learning curve, but is very accessible with JAWS,
especially if you are using JAWS 10.
I am very pleased with it, and did not find the new style of menus very
difficult to learn.
Blessings,
Tom

[JAWS-Users] which Microsoft suites are most Jaws accessible?

2009-07-15 Thread Joanne
I was looking around for free trials of some of the Microsoft suites such as
Office 2007 Standard and Office 2007 for Home and Student, etc. I did try
to install one of these and kept getting a cannot proceed with install
error, so don't know what's going on there. But what I'm also wondering is,
I would like to eventually own a very simple version of, say, Office, as I
may need Microsoft Word sometimes. I use Word Pad now for most things, but
am just thinking I probably need one of these Office versions in case I need
Word or in case my daughter needs to use Power Point or something else for
school when her computer isn't working. The Home and Student 2007 looks to
be the least expensive, but since I'm getting this install error I don't
know if it is practical and accessible for Jaws users. My sighted friend
says the menus are different on this version of Office so didn't know how
Jaws would respond. Just wondering what some of you thought and which of
these products might be the simplest to use.

Thanks.

I have only recently began using Office 2007. So far, I have only used
Word and Outlook. The familiar dropdown menus have been replaced by
something called ribbons. They are basically two rows of radio buttons.
Some of them correspond roughly to options that you know from the old
dropdown menus, and some are different. However, there are key commands
that you can use to directly access options, but there is some learning
and memorization involved. Doing things in office 2007 is different,
but it is accessible with JAWS.
