But inside job execution the variables are defined. We have a case where we for a set of jobs (that automatically is copied) want to reference a file in the worspace and thus could use ${JOB_URL}/ws/ourfile inside each of the jobs.

From my testing it looks like join-plugin doesn't mange to figure out that the maven snapshot triggers are downstream builds. I did take a look at the source for the join-plugin and i couldn't really figure out how to dig up the maven dependencies and add them as downstreams there.

Moreover our stack trace is a bit different (mostly I think due to the fact that we are using a free form job and the original poster appears to be using a maven job.) Moreover I encountered this issue immediately at the beginning of a build, not when it finished. Given that the issue is in attempting to create a lastSuccessfulBuild link, it would seem to me that this is a core issue, not something with a plugin. Anton I have a job that is configured to track multiple branches (e.g. branch specifier is set to 'origin/topic/*'). The first run of the job will build all branches that match. Subsequent runs will only build the latest head matching the branch specification. I tested it on a job that is not set to poll or build periodically. I would have expected it to build all branches all the time. If there's only one branch specified it always rebuilds that branch regardless of changes. However, the use case is, to be able to rebuild all branches that may have failed due to system failure or misconfiguration on a job that is otherwise set to poll nightly. I'm not sure what the current logic is for deciding what to build when triggered manually. For polling, there is a check if a head's commit id was already included in a previous build. For a manual build, it would be useful to check if a head's commit id was included in previous successful build. If so, it can be skipped -

I wanted to see where, when and how I could make use of GIT_BRANCH in a job that tracks multiple branches. Branch specifier is set to 'origin/topic/*', which matches two branches - 'parallel_1' and 'parallel_2'. In the additional behaviors section, I specified '$ {GIT_BRANCH}' as local subdirectory for repo. I start the job manually and it triggers two builds - one for each matching branch. However, my workspace contains two directories called '${GIT_BRANCH}
' (from build #1 for parallel_1 branch) and 'parallel_1' (from build #2 for parallel_2 branch).
I would expect GIT_BRANCH to be used consistently - either correctly all the time or never.

In looking into the issue further, it does not seem to me that this issue has anything to do with the Build Publisher Plugin and has probably been incorrectly assigned to its maintainer. We do not have the Hudson Build Publisher plugin installed on our system. Moreover our stack trace is a bit different (mostly I think due to the fact that we are using a free form job and the original poster appears to be using a maven job.) Given that the issue is in attempting to create a lastSuccessfulBuild link, it would seem to me that this is a core issue, not something with a plugin. I wanted to first create a unit tests that reproduces the problem, but I have not had the time to sort out the unit testing framework. As a user I want to be able to have a clean workspace (or subset of a workspace).
I do not want to fall back to writing scripts with `if (unix) else windows {}` which could also be problematic as the control file lives in these directories and there would also be no way to delete the current directory
