Re: interested in the idea 'Change build system to gradle' and prepare to write a proposal

2017-03-29 Thread Dirk Stöcker

Hello,

I am Hongfei Shen(you can call me Jeffy).I study Software Engineering at
Software School, Dalian University of Technology, China.I have learnt
Groovy and Gradle last winter vacation. In that vacation, I was interested
in web-development and was coding back-end using Groovy. In this summer
vacation I’d like to work on the idea ‘JOSM: Change build system to
gradle’.I think a good and easy-to-use build method is something like
infrastructure to a program and creating that is both meaningful and
interesting. But for now, I am wondering what I should do to write a good
proposal. Learning plan about ANT, learning how the project is build, or
anything? Could you please give me some suggestions?

I removed this GSOC idea. While ant has surely drawbacks it is not planned
ATM to change the build system of JOSM. A conceptual study would
be possible, but that effort could better be spent on other projects.

If you want to contribute to JOSM in another place, have a look at our bug
tracker for ideas. There are many ideas and some of them big enough for an
GSOC project.

Ciao
