He also said to them, Amen, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see that the kingdom of God has come in power. This text is understood by some scholars to signify the coming of Gods kingdom in and thru the Church.. Thus there were many christians who experienced the pentecost episode and thus saw the kingdom of god come in power thru the church which is the body of Christ.. Another explanation is also possible.. The early Christians expected christ to return very soon..so they were always alert awaiting his return..this belief is expressed thru the words of jesus in this passage.. where it is mentioned that jesus will come again in glory and inagurate his kingdom on earth. [JOYnet] Why many illnesses are left unhealed?
Dear Friends, In a world created and provided for an all powerful, all knowing, and loving God, suffering should have no place in this world, only blessedness. But God tolerates the workings of suffering in the very same world He created because man needs it. Love may cause pain to its object but only if the object needs a change to be fully lovable. We need suffering to purify our pride of life. Proud people sing the same tune: I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soul! For both Jews and Greeks, pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall (Prov 16:18). If there is a road to disaster (pride), and a road away from disaster (repentance), then God and goodness will triumph. In the history of Israel, which is the chosen race, suffering indeed has a reason. It was Gods way of showing that suffering is a way out of sin, a road to repentance, so that all could reach the gate of holiness. For some people suffering is considered unthinkable, almost a scandal. It is a scandal to get sick, to have a headache, a sunburn, bruised hands, and to be fatigued in searching for the lost sheep. It is totally unheard of, even scandalous others might say, to fast on bread and water, to attend reparation vigils and spend sleepless night praying and making sacrifices for the sins of the world. For others, it is scandal to sleep on the floor with the poor, to walk barefooted, to eat with bare hands, to wear old and worn clothes. The Gospel is Good News for it brings healing to those who realize that they are mortally ill. Unfortunately, this view has drastically changed in many Catholic circles because of the wrong kind of psychology. For instance, Freud and Deweys method of psychology has warped some peoples notion of sin that it does not exist. They declare that it is unfair for man to be implicated in the sin of Adam and Eve. They infer that man was basically born good. The most that man can do when he errs is to experience guilty feelings. Psychotherapists process this guilt feeling by increasing the patients self-image and self-confidence. But never really hitting the core of the problem, which is sin because they do not believe in sin. This is precisely why many illnesses are left unhealed because sin is not rooted out. Spiritual and interior healing does not take place. Many out to frustration, even after seeing several psychologists or psychiatrists, still commit suicide because it is the only way for them to be alleviated form their suffering. Psychologist Dale Carnegie, famous for human development and communications techniques using pure methods of psychotherapy, committed suicide after years of trying to teach people how to stop worrying and start living. Experimental psychology has ruined many congregations of priests and sisters because of this kind of orientation. [JOYnet] Outreach Program
Dear Friends, This is a short report on our visit to a village in Tahalsari in Dhanu on 23rd Feb. 2002. This village is in a remote area, which is just 10km before Gujarat border, a group of Adivasi people and their love for Christ. We were a group of 8 people (6 boys and 2 girls). First of all let me tell you that our lord is a mighty god. He works in different ways. When we reached there we could see gods glory already present in that place. People were getting ready for receiving from the lord. Before we could start, we had no idea about what we are going to do and how the program will go through out the night. (Yes it was like a night vigil). And also we had no idea about how we are going to interact with these people who were of tribal area who knew only Marathi and we were the people of major language barrier. We neither knew Hindi Properly, and Marathi was out of Question. But we waited upon the lord and his spirit. For his Spirit teaches us everything. The Program started with heavy anointed Praise and Worship in Hindi. Then we had the Sharing of the word in Malayalam, which was translated in Hindi and in Marathi by the Parish Priest who also was present for the program. At the end we had a full one-hour of Adoration, which was the most awesome and glorious experience. We saw that all those who came were a group of people who really had the hunger and thirst for the lord. This reliasation came when we heard that people had come to attend the night vigil even though they had to go for their Marathi retreat in Tabor the very next early morning around 6.00 am. These people were praying for many days for the night vigil to be conducted in their area, which at last took place on 23rd February 2002. We were greatly touched by the HUMBLE, LOVING, CARING, and SHARING nature of the people of the tribal area. There were many testimonies and miracles that took place during that night. We would like to specially thank Fr. Baptista Lopez for giving Jesus Youth Of Mumbai an opportunity to spread the WORD OF GOD and bringing in more laborers in the lords vineyard. This sunday (8th of March) we are going for another outreach programme. so please keep in your prayers. Union with Jesus and Mary Sojan K. Dear JYs Well today is Women's Day... I mean that is what I was told for me everday is woman's day thanx to mah momhaha just kidding My friend phoned me up today morning and asked me. Think of all the women which made a difference in ur life and phone her up and wish her. I told him that it wasnt possible cause well she aint on earth any more. He said how sad, then pray for her soul. I laughed and said actually she is praying for my soul. He was surprised. It took him 2 minutes to realise that I was talking about Mother Mary and then what followed wouldnt be found in any dictionary. Anyways so wishing then all the women out here. Let's pray to Mother Mary (THE WOMAN) asking her to intercede for all the women who are still being ill treated. Many of us are blessed to be living in an urban society where women are supposed to be treated as equal (even though many of us know they are not.) But there are many others still being ill treated and harassed in many parts of India just because they are - a Woman. On a Lighter Note, I am forwarding a joke passed on to me by .. a woman obviously Ladies, you're going to love this one Whoever said that house work is woman's work - and NOT man's work - has definitely got it all wrong!
