[JOYnet] Jesus Youth team in Assam
Dear all, Thank you very much for your prayers for the Jesus Youth team who is now in Deephu Diocese in Assam. My wife Annie John had phoned up today afternoon to inform that the Cultural Youth Exchange Programme will start in the evening and has requested our prayers for the team headed by Fr.George SVD. The programme will be over on the 6th of April. They had a comfortable journey by train after journey breaks at Puri and Guwahati. They will back at Ernakulam by the 12th. Fr.George and Annie had reached Deephu on Thursday and had opportunities to give messages, teach action songs, lead praise and worship and all. Annie told me that she was asked to be the chief guest for the inter-diocese sports meet. Praise Jesus she could do that well. She told that the priests and people in Deephu are very sweet and too good. Sebastian and others have joined them after another programme in Tijeshpur in Assam. Other team members Raiju Varghese, Joshy Mayyatil, ... are also joining them. Please continue to pray for them that they may be able to give Jesus to the youth of the Diocese so that they in turn would become instruments of Jesus' love and winning souls in that area. The Lord also blessed us with a lady for being with our son Isaac during the day time. We were also taught to depend and allow the Lord to take control during the days Annie was starting her journey. I had an unexpected official tour to Ankaleshwar in Gujarat and hence could not be here for some days or see off when they started their journey, but the Lord took care of all the things, better that I would have. Praise Jesus! love and regards, John Wilfred Cochin, India === This mail is generated from JOYnet, a Jesus Youth mailing list. [JOYnet] TODAY`S SAINT..ST JOHN CLIMACUS
30th MARCH 2003 ST JOHN CLIMACUS ABBOT CONFESSOR ( c.525-605) LIFE: Syrian by birth, he lived in a cave -hermitage at the foot of Mount Sinai in the desert of Thola, studying the lives of the Saints and gaining a reputation for profound learning. When he was 75 years of age , the mount Sinai monks elected him Abbot , and such was his holiness and wisdom , that even Pope St Gregorythe Great was informed of it and send him a contribution for his hospital and pilgrimes hostel and asked for his prayers. St john resigned his office after four years in order to returned to his hermitageand prepare himself for death. The most important of his writings is entitled ` Ladder to Paradise`, and from its latin title climax has been derived his surname. This ascetical treatise , which attained great popularity throughout the church 7 was transalated into many languages, its 30 chapters - in memory of our Lord`s 30 yeras of hidden life - treat of the vices to be subdued the virtues to be cultivated in order to attain the greatest spiritual perfection. The practical application of the percepts is richly illustratedwith parables and historical facts. He died in his hermitage on March 30, 605 . REFLECTION: A man is truly dispassionate -- and is known to be such -- when he has cleansed his flesh of all corruption; when he has lifted his mind above everything created, and has made it master of all the senses; when he keeps his soul continually in the presence of the Lord and reaches out beyond the borderline of strength to Him... Its effect is to sanctify the mind and to detach it from material things, and it does so in such a way that, after entering this heavenly harbor, a man, for most of his earthly life, is enraptured, like someone already in heaven, and he is lifted up to the contemplation of God. - A man who has embraced poverty offers up prayer that is pure, while a man who loves possessions prays to material images. - (ST JOHN) **O Jesus ! [JOYnet] friendship
One for us ... and our friendship .. One day, when I was a freshman in high school, I saw kid from my class was walking home from school. His name was Kyle. It looked like he was carrying all of his books. I thought to myself, Why would anyone bring home all his books on a Friday? He must really be a nerd. I had quite a weekend planned (parties and a football game with my friends tomorrow afternoon), so I shrugged my shoulders and went on. As I was walking, I saw a bunch of kids running toward him. They ran at him, knocking all his books out of his arms and tripping him so he landed in the dirt. His glasses went flying, and I saw them land in the grass about ten feet from him. He looked up and I saw this terrible sadness in his eyes. My heart went out to him. So I jogged over to him and as he crawled around looking for his glasses, and I saw a tear in his eye. As I handed him his glasses, I said, Those guys are jerks. They really should get lives. He looked at me and said, Hey thanks! There was a big smile on his face. It was one of those smiles that showed real gratitude. I helped him pick up his books, and asked him where he lived. As it turned out, he lived near me, so I asked him why I had never seen him before. He said he had gone to private school before now. I would have never hung out with a private school kid before. We talked all the way home, and I carried some of his books. He turned out to be a pretty cool kid. I asked him if he wanted to play a little football with my friends. He said yes. We hung out all weekend and the more I got to know Kyle, the more I liked him, and my friends thought the same of him. Monday morning came, and there was Kyle with the huge stack of books again. I stopped him and said, Boy, you are gonna really build some serious muscles with this pile of books everyday! He just laughed and handed me half the books. Over the next four years, Kyle and I became best friends. When we were seniors, we began to think about college. Kyle decided on Georgetown, and I was going to Duke. I knew that we would always be friends, that the miles would never be a problem. He was going to be a doctor, and I was going for business on a football scholarship. Kyle was valedictorian of our class. I teased him all the time about being a nerd. He had to prepare a speech for graduation. I was so glad it wasn't me having to get up there and speak. Graduation day, I saw Kyle. He looked great. He was one of those guys that really found himself during high school. He filled out and actually looked good in glasses. He had more dates than I had and all the girls loved him. Boy, sometimes I was jealous. Today was one of those days. I could see that he was nervous about his speech. So, I smacked him on the back and said, Hey, big guy, you'll be great! He looked at me with one of those looks (the really grateful one) and smiled. Thanks, he said. As he started his speech, he cleared his throat, and began. Graduation is a time to thank those who helped you make it through those tough years. Your parents, your teachers, your siblings, maybe a coach...but mostly your friends. I am here to tell all of you that being a friend to someone is the best gift you can give them. I am going to tell you a story. I just looked at my friend with disbelief as he told the story of the first day we met. He had planned to kill himself over the weekend. He talked of how he had cleaned out his locker so his Mom wouldn't have to do it later and was carrying his stuff home. He looked hard at me and gave me a little smile. Thankfully, I was saved. My friend saved me from doing the unspeakable. I heard the gasp go through the crowd as this handsome, popular boy told us all about his weakest moment. I saw his Mom and dad looking at me and smiling that same grateful smile. Not until that moment did I realize it's depth. Never underestimate the power of your actions. With one small gesture you can change a person's life. For better or for worse. God puts us all in each other's lives to impact one another in some way. Look for God in others. You now have two choices, you can: 1) Pass this on to your friends or 2) Delete it and act like it didn't touch your heart. As you can see, I took choice number 1. Re: [JOYnet] Prayer Topic for next month
Hi JYs Praise the Lord. I got a one or 2 mails saying that the topic was ok for the beginning of April. Since its just 5 days left for this Friday I think we have to start praying.Especially for all broken families. What do you all say if we remember this intention throughout this week in our prayers and especially on the 4th of April. We could make a small sacrifices everyday this week for this particular intention. And remember them in our prayer time and even during mass. Just as Jesus first miracle was at the wedding of Cana, blessing them with His very presence, He should bless every marriage. We should pray for all families broken by different types of addiction(alcohol, drugs etc ) that they be released from it. We should pray for unity in the families, between Husband and wife and between parents and children, and that all such obstacles should be removed. Should pray that they see Gods plan in everything both good and bad. They recieve the gift to Forgive one one another. These are just some of my suggestions. I hope you all will add to it.
