Thanks for that, indeed a good article. I especially liked the nods to
Velocity as a template engine (it rocks) and later the mention of
Thinlets and Swing Apps as a next step up from servlets.

"We have progressed from writing Servlets to writing Applets, Thinlets,
Swing applications, AS/400 RPG code calling native Java objects, and so
on."

Personally, I certainly think there will be a return to the rich client
UI that he's hinting at here.

Shameless plug - for building UI's without IDE Wizardry and ugly
generated code, check out the SWIX (Swing ala XML) Engine - the site is
now up and running at http://www.swixml.org.

Cheers,
Timo

[jug-discussion] Big savings through open source Java

2003-01-20 Thread Dennis Sosnoski
There's a very nice article on ZDNet discussing how FCCI Insurance Group
made the move from Windows/IIS/Delphi to Linux/JBoss/Eclipse:
http://techupdate.zdnet.com/techupdate/stories/main/0,14179,2908812,00.html
If your group is having a tough time convincing management to let you go
with open source software this may make a good plug.
