Re: [Review Queue] Zend Server

2014-11-13 Thread Sebastian
Yeah sure! this is really a thing that I would love to have a good
discussion about, thanks!

This could be an issue to low the complexity and a good experience when
orchestrating topologies using the Juju charm Store, and also charm
developers to extend and create new charms.

So we could say that I'm favor to making the "extending" process a good
experience, so we can focus efforts of making a charm better like Zen
Server or LAMP in less charms to choose.

Cheers!!,
Sebas.

Hey Sebas,

The short answer to this is: We haven't settled on it as there are perks
and negatives to each approach.

We've given some talk to this, and our current thoughts would be to shift
some of the application specific charms that would benefit from utilizing
Zend-Server as a subordinate. That's not 100% ideal in all cases, as
scaling the zend-server would replicate all the attached subordinates
(which works, but requires deploying multiple zend-server instances per
application stack)- but we're open to kicking this discussion forward.
Would it benefit you to do a QA and Discovery session on this? I can get
one setup on the calendar and invite other community members to attend to
do feedback aggregation / brainstorming.

All the best,

Charles

Hey Matt!

Thanks for reviewing this charm, but I wonder if there some example of how
to use it in a real use of case with an existing PHP project. Would it be
really helpful to start using it.

And also, talking about charms for LAMP stacks, how we can relate it with
charms like Drupal or CakePHP where they have a LAMP built in. I'm always
hunted by the thought of being duplicating code into the charms.

Abs,
Sebas.

[Review Queue] Zend Server

2014-11-13 Thread Matt Bruzek
I spent some time reviewing the Zend Server charm yesterday. This charm
was written by our partners at Zend and was used in a recent Turbo LAMP
stack demo.

The charm code contained tests which were really helpful to test it on the
environments such as Power 8, and HP-cloud. All the tests passed and the
charm passed the Charm Store review criteria!

It is my pleasure to introduce the zend-server charm to the Juju
ecosystem. http://manage.jujucharms.com/charms/trusty/zend-server

Thanks

[Review Queue] zend-server

2014-11-07 Thread Adam Israel
[1] zend-server

Following up on a very thorough review performed by Matt Bruzek, I spent some
time reviewing the latest changes of zend-server. The charm is really shaping
up well, and I’ll be excited to see it included in the Juju Charm Store.

The charm deployed successfully if done without its optional relation to MySQL,
but that relation, required for clustering, was breaking during my tests.
Additionally, whilst unit tests have been added, they failed when run via
bundletester.

I’ve left my feedback on github for the author, and hope to see more from him
soon.
