Yup works on both devices now with the same settings, very strange.

Outgoing settings

Incoming settings

Think I've sussed it, I changed the outgoing server settings from STARTTLS to
SSL/TLS and everything is working now, can't understand why the two devices
need different settings but sometimes you have to accept small wins without
knowing how you won, lol.

I'm going to try the same settings on the phone to see if it works with the
same settings.

[k-9-mail] Unable to send or receive emails

2022-02-08 Thread Peter
I have K9 mail 5.807 on my tablet and phone but when I try to send or receive
new messages from the tablet it fails every time, the strange thing is that my
phone has the very same settings, send and receive, and it works flawlessly,
I've checked and double checked every setting in the account settings screen
and they are a mirror image between the two, can't get my head around why one
would work but the other won't.
Any help or suggestion would be appreciated.

Re: [k-9-mail] Re: K9 doesn't write to sd card

2019-01-26 Thread Hans-Peter Korn
So, please: the k-9 developers should solve this issue instead of
writing this in https://k9mail.github.io/documentation/storage.html :

"External storage however has to be considered potientially removable.
But large APKs can be stored on external storage by request. K-9 doesn’t
do this - our APK is not large and most users don’t want their e-mail
account being removed when they take out an SD card which has been
designated as external storage.  ...   the number of devices with SD
cards is still quite small, the way they are detected by the API varies
heavily with each version of Android and the amount of normal storage is
normally considerable. Hence we don’t see strong demand and ability
for specifically supporting SD cards on versions where it is actually
possible without fragile code. ... This may change in the future, but is
dependent on developers having phones with SD card support to develop
against (as well as no higher priority issues)."

I doubt, that this will be done in the nearer future.

So, please:  Write In the k-9 settings for "account / storage" something
like "external storage (SD card; NOT working for Android 7 and higher)"

Re: [k-9-mail] Re: SPAM Filter

2017-05-07 Thread Peter
My provider 1&1 does a pretty good job with filtering spam messages but some
still manage to get through, it would be very handy to be able to complete the
job of filtering out the last few within K9, I love K9 but this is one area
where it really does fall short, I'd rather use K9 as it stands than not use it
at all to be honest, so spam filtering if it existed would be the icing on the

"To access these settings navigate to a folder list. Click on the /*More

But I don't see Folder Settings.

[k-9-mail] Using exported settings

2016-04-23 Thread Peter Holsberg
How does one use exported settings?

I thought that if I exported the settings of an account and removed that
account, that I could somehow import those settings when I recreated the
account.

K-9 still makes me create all the login info and doesn't appear to let
me short-circuit that process by simply importing the old settings.

Have I missed something?

Thanks.

I have never seen or had this problem and had k9 on several different phones

Do you receive emails to multiple email addresses? If so, unless you
have an identity set up for the alternates, they'll show up when you
 reply-all.

I must confess I don't use the scroll bar at all on my smartphone but I do on

I would rather see an account identifier on the screen, where I can see which

Re: [k-9-mail] Bulk delete not working as it should

2015-07-08 Thread Peter
I see what your saying but in order to send these emails to the trash or junk
folder they need to be deleted in the first place so it sounds as if what you
are saying is I need to empty the trash and junk folder first and then perform
the bulk delete from my inbox and then go back to emptying the two folders
again!?

I'll take another look for the search folder options but unless I am using a
massively different version to you I can't understand why I'm not seeing the
right options.

[k-9-mail] Can't select a group from my contacts

2015-06-11 Thread Peter
Can anyone tell me how to select a 'group' of contacts from my contacts list? I
have several groups created but when I compose a new mail and select add
contact only the list of contacts come up even though I have several groups
which I should be able to choose from!

If k9mail cannot do this can anyone recommend an email client that can perform
this basic function.

I'm getting those, too, on an unrooted stock Nexus 6.

Chrome was not the default.

The .net::ERR_CACHE_MISS issue seems to point to a permissions
issue. Izik, your phone isn't rooted per chance and/or you haven't
been mucking (directly or indirectly) with the permissions that an
app can have, have you? [in android 4.x there was an app that let
you muck with what an app could do, but i believe that that
capability was pulled in later android releases, but you can get
that control back with a rooted device.]

  Hello

I have problems recently opening internet links directly from
  K-9 Mail messages

  I am getting Page can't be loadednet::ERR_CACHE_MISS
  error messages

If I copy links and then go to a browser and open the link
there - it works fine If I open the message on another mail
  client - link works ok

  It happens only on K-9...

I tried reinstalling the app - didn't work

  I run Android 5.0 on LG-G3

K-9 doesn't open URLs directly, rather you should be prompted to
use some application, depending on the url, generally one of your
installed web browsers. Are you not being prompted? If you are
which one are you using and have you tried a different one?

By the way, one should always include the K-9 version, in
addition to the Android release details.

Re: [k-9-mail] New problem opening links from K-9

That seems to work with K9.

So lets just hope WebView and/or K-9 will get an update soon...

I was only suggesting disabling webview as a temporary work-around
so that you could open http links from K9 message views.

It is interesting that this doesn't appear to be a widely reported
issue so there may be something else going on.

As a test, I uninstalled all browsers (and disabled chrome,
including uninstalling updates) on my android 5.1.1 / K9 5.106
device. This did, not surprisingly, result in the error you are
seeing. [Just uninstalling all browsers except chrome didn't result
 in an error.]

Re-enabling chrome, and installing the current version
(43.0.2357.92), made things work again. You might want to
uninstall/reinstall chrome and see if that fixes things. And/or you
might also want to try installing a second web browser
 (firefix/dolphin/opera).

[As an aside - at least with K9, if you only have one app that can
fulfill an external call request - e.g., open an http link - you
 don't get prompted.]

By the way, when reporting issues please include the Android and K9

Hi Pat,

I think you'll find that the way k9mail reacts to text input is down to
whatever keyboard entry system you have installed, either stock pre-installed
or third party e.g. Swift, Google etc. and the way they are configured.

I am not aware of k9 having any control of how text is input.

K9 removed their SSL/TLS keys from the App. They have not update

1.0.1g or keep on facing Heart Bleed malware.

I'm not certain where you got that quote -- I just searched list

Why? There are millions? Trillions? Of custom domain names and no
definitive way of determining those domains' mail servers. How is k9
supposed to know yours is through gmail?

I think they've done a good job of getting many common domains included.
It could make a guess based on MX record but I'm not entirely sure how to
 encode that.

[k-9-mail] One Account and Strange Behavior

2014-11-06 Thread Peter Holsberg
I have several accounts in K-9 on a Samsung Galaxy S3 and one of them
displays differently from the others. It, like some of the others, is a
Gmail IMAP account.

When I open a message, I get a horizontal list of symbols that I will
describe vertically:
1.
2.
3. trashcan
4. three horizontal bars
5. triangle with a ! in it
6. folder

1, 2, 3 and 6 are pretty obvious but what do 4 and 5 do?

And why is this account different from the others? Or is that set up for
IMAP and there's a different, more intuitive, one for POP??

Thanks.

Incidentally, if I use the menu button, I get
Copy

You have two periods right before the final domain. At a guess, Outlook is
probably silently correcting this to a single period
before sending the message, but K-9 is probably passing the address on
unchanged.

Thunderbird bottom posts by default.

Outlook was released in 1993, thunderbird was 2003. Hardly the standard

I think pine (1989) was my first email client, outside of proprietary

Never heard of a spam button in K-9!

Really? It's how you mark e-mail as spam. Very popular feature, as I

Would you kindly look at you device and tell me where that option is?

It occurs with every message and I did check the outbound server

inferred that all was well.

John F. Eldredge has written on 2/24/2014 5:47 PM:
This probably means that K-9 can't send a reply to that message. Tell
K-9 to show the headers, and take a look at the From header and (if
present) the Reply-To header. My guess would be that the address to
reply to is missing or malformed. If you see this on every message
received via that account, check your outbound server settings.

 This requires that you have a folder designated as your Archive folder;
check Account Settings/Folders (NOT Folder Settings) and see what

 K-9 cannot create folders.

The ability to create folders -- at least for POP accounts -- would be

Re: [k-9-mail] New update

2014-01-31 Thread Peter
I and several other users of K9 have suggested a link to be added to the
documentation on the Wiki page which let's be honest is not that difficult to
find if you spend a few minutes exploring the various menu items, I think that
some users of software apps are so used to be spoon fed they have lost the
ability to work things out for themselves.

Let's not also forget that K9 is FREE and is developed by a dedicated band of
hard working enthusiasts.

[k-9-mail] Messages difficult to read

2013-12-23 Thread Peter
Hi All,

I have noticed that when choosing a larger than normal sized text for message
body the text is difficult to read as the line spacing is such that one line
partially overlays another, obviously I can get over this by choosing a smaller
display font but I think it needs fixing for those of us who have less than
perfect eyesight.
