[krunner] [Bug 364268] New: krunner puts system under heavy loads when compositing is disabled

2016-06-13 Thread Janek Bevendorff via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=364268

Bug ID: 364268
Summary: krunner puts system under heavy loads when compositing
is disabled
   Product: krunner
   Version: 5.6.4
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: m...@vhanda.in
  Reporter: jbev_kdebugs...@refining-linux.org

When playing games, kwin usually automatically disables compositing (and if not
I have a window rule for it). At some point I wondered why my gaming
performance was so bad. I was playing at about 15 FPS instead of 60-100FPS.
Opening htop revealed that krunner was hogging all my CPU cores at 100% until I
killed it.

I cannot reproduce this behavior on demand, but it has happened ever since.
Disabling compositing doesn't directly start this behavior in every case, but
it happens quite often. On some days I get lucky and cannot even reproduce it
when toggling compositing all the time, on other days it starts as soon as
compositing is disabled almost reliably. It has never happened when compositing
was on, but once krunner has gone wild, it doesn't stop only because I turn it
back on (i.e. I have to kill it in any case).

Reproducible: Sometimes

[plasmashell] [Bug 340063] Please make KDE fade to black before turning screen off

2016-06-13 Thread Kai Uwe Broulik via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=340063

--- Comment #12 from Kai Uwe Broulik ---
Compositing needs to be enabled and the "KScreen helper effect" in Desktop
Effects enabled (only shown when you uncheck the "Exclude internal desktop
effects" in the menu next to the search field). However, the effect should be
enabled by default.

The fade itself is pretty quick (might need to re-think that a bit and slowly
fade) but the screen won't turn off right after the fade effect.

[systemsettings] [Bug 364267] New: pre-installed font categories

2016-06-13 Thread Martin Tlustos via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=364267

Bug ID: 364267
   Summary: pre-installed font categories
   Product: systemsettings
   Version: 5.6.4
  Platform: Kubuntu Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: kcm_fontinst
  Assignee: unassigned-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: martin.tlus...@gmail.com

I'd like to propose a built-in grouping of different types of fonts - deco
fonts, text and display, scripts, handwritings, etc.

I know such a distinction would always be quite arbitrary, but at least there
could be these groups:

-Serifs (all serif typefaces with at least 4 different fonts -
regular,bold,italic,bold-italic)
- Sanserifs (all sanserif typefaces with at least 4 different fonts)
- Scripts
- pictograms (like dingbats etc.)

Optional groups:
-small caps
-decorative fonts
-header fonts
-handwriting
etc.

kcm_fontinst could have a preconfigured list of the most common fonts used in
Linux systems, which would then be overruled by any user configuration.

Reproducible: Always

This happens when the size of the widget does not fit with what the video codec
likes to have. Usually odd numbers are problematic, but it depends on the video
codec. We need to find a workaround for it. For the current version you can get
around it by changing the Marble window size slightly until you get a working
video, but that's not a satisfying solution of course.

[Device Notifier] Be more declarative

Instead of having a bunch of handlers in various places messing with various
settings,
try to use declarative bindings where possible.

* Remove separate passive timer, instead re-use the pendingDelegateRemoval
property
which has its own timer. This way, when a device is unmounted, device
notifier stays
active until the notification has cleared, however, when the device is yanked
out manually,
  it disappears right away
* Don't break binding on Plasmoid.active to ensure its state is always proper
depending on
whether a device or not is present (the linked bug)
* Create tooltip declaratively rather than imperatively
