[plasmashell] [Bug 365637] New: Menu search unable to find anything

2016-07-13 Thread Jörg Neulist via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=365637

Bug ID: 365637
Summary: Menu search unable to find anything
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.6.5
  Platform: Debian testing
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Application Launcher (Kickoff)
  Assignee: k...@davidedmundson.co.uk
  Reporter: ka-...@gmx.de
CC: plasma-b...@kde.org

The menu search in Appilcation Dashboard, Launcher, and Menu broke for me with
the last update. Now it does not find anything anymore. It just says "Searching
for 'k'...", for example, and stays empty.

The menu itself looks fine. I have tried using kmenuedit to re-generate the
menu to no avail.
I have checked the search plugin settings in the settings menu (does this even
apply?) , but everything enabled is as broken as everything off.
I have tried setting dashboard's search option ("expand to files etc.") to off
or on - neither works.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open dashboard, launcher, or menu.
2. Type 'k'.

Actual Results:
Search does not find anything.

Expected Results:
Search finds all installed programs with a 'k' in their name or description.

I am not aware of any configuration specialties. I use the standard generated
Debian menu with no additions or changes.
I migrated from Cinnamon, which gives me some peculiarities. But that was at
least two versions ago, and it did work before.

James: please tell us EXACTLY what you have tried. What link are you clicking

which won't help you on Windows. The windows download link points to 4.7.2,

In my opinion, having the tray icons bigger than the Task Manager icons looks
bad. Perhaps there should be an update to keep the tray icons a certain size
relative to the height/width of panel. A bit like how Windows does it.

Thanks for the report.

I'm afraid we can't match everyone's opinion - if we make them bigger we'll get
a bug report "the icons are too big" from someone.

It's using the stanard icon size - which is customisable in system settings.

Further investigation through gdb seems to show that it was the pulse audio
volume plugin for the taskbar that was causing plasmashell to crash:

Thread 1 "plasmashell" received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
0x7fff2bbb993d in QPulseAudio::Card::update(pa_card_info const*) () from

After removing the "plasma-pa" package in debian - plasmashell now seems to
start successfully.

Not sure why this situation should suddenly have arise though?

[kwin] [Bug 365601] Please invert only the content, not the window decoration

2016-07-13 Thread Thomas Lübking via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=365601

On could probably filter the decoration quads, but this sounds like a *very*
particular usecase - and therefore probably stupid (read: "extremely low
efficient solution") approach.

Mind elaborating which window you desire to invert internally (and why) - the
by far better approach was to have the client invert itself.

[plasmashell] [Bug 365450] Using the "type to search..." feature on the K menu (application launcher/"start menu") doesn't produce results

Thank you aeris, good to know the fix is already coming up on the Debian cycle!
It's not a big issue but since it's the sort of thing I use everyday it can get
pretty annoying. I'll keep on Debian testing and will close this only when the
feature is working here once again (unless a maintainer here decides otherwise
of course).

[systemsettings] [Bug 365363] Changing icons from System Settings is broken

(In reply to Wolfgang Bauer from comment #3)

Indeed that's what it does:
- to "load" the settings it just calls KIconTheme::current()
- when saving, it writes it to kdeglobals, then deletes the icon cache, calls
KIconTheme::reconfigure() and emits changed signals.

I suspect this is a problem in kiconthemes then, e.g. that it doesn't correctly
reload the settings.

(In reply to Pulfer from comment #4)
> You will see that System Settings keeps
> inserting icons from the theme it was started with even after icon theme was
> changed (and back button was pressed).

I suppose that kiconthemes does that because it doesn't notice the settings
change...

There seems to be no way to set the nick name in an XMPP multi-user chat (at
least not in the UI). Instead, KTP always choses the user name of the XMPP
address (for example if i have x...@example.com as an XMPP address, the nick
name
will be xy).

Unfortunately there is nothing we can do for 16.04.3
Neon User edition will get it in August, while the Git-Unstable Developer
edition should already have the fixed version of Ark.

[okular] [Bug 342735] when viewing .dvi with included .eps files, these .eps figures are shown in wrong places

2016-07-13 Thread Andrey Grozin via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=342735

Currently 9.19. When I filed this bug, surely, I had an older version.

I tried to do bisection. Compiled okular-0.14.3 (which was in KDE SC 4.8.4)
which was mentioned in comment #3. But the bug was already present. I have not
compiled the whole KDE SC 4.8.4 together with all libraries and programs on
which okular depends. So, it seems that the bug is *not* in okular itself.
Behaviour of some external library or program has changed some time ago, and
induced the buggy behaviour in okular.

I'll try to compile some old version of ghostscript. Does anybody know what
version of ghostscript was in Debian 7.8?

2016-07-13 Thread arne anka via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=365607

Bug ID: 365607
Summary: kwin_x11: after screen power saving, screen stays
blank
   Product: kwin
   Version: 5.7.0
  Platform: Debian unstable
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: compositing
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: kde-b...@ginguppin.de

after the timeout, the powersave the screen got blank, including the screen's
LED switching to "no signal".
woke up the screen, after a while the screen started to get black again.
interrupted this, but now the screen stayed black -- cursor changed while
moving according to the now invisible windows it crossed, but nothing else
happened.
switched to console and back, which usually fixed those rendering issues, but
that didn't help either.
finally i killed kwin_x11and was at least able to close my open applications
and logout in an orderly fashion.

graphics adaptor:
Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Cedar [Radeon HD 5000/6000/7350/8350

Subsystem: Dell Radeon HD 6350

There is no way to influence the rendering of the window decoration from within

[kactivitymanagerd] [Bug 365606] New: createActivity in plasma script unreliable

2016-07-13 Thread Fabian Vogt via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=365606

Bug ID: 365606
Summary: createActivity in plasma script unreliable
   Product: kactivitymanagerd
   Version: 5.7.0
  Platform: openSUSE RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: ivan.cu...@kde.org
  Reporter: fab...@ritter-vogt.de
CC: plasma-b...@kde.org

The default plasma startup script
(https://github.com/KDE/plasma-desktop/blob/master/desktoppackage/contents/layout.js)
creates an activity called "Desktop", but that does only appear sometimes in
the activity switcher and desktopsForActivity(id) for that id also returns 0 in
that case.
Adding while(desktopsForActivity(id).length == 0) sleep(10); does not make it
work, so it's not a race condition in the script itself.

As a result, customizations in that script, like
https://build.opensuse.org/package/view_file/openSUSE:Leap:42.1:Update/plasma5-openSUSE/plasma-change-defaults.diff?expand=1
do not work as expected, as they only touch the newly created activity. This
customization, for instance, adds a folderview widget, but on Plasma 5.7.0 it
does not appear after logging in.

This does not seem to be broken in Plasma < 5.7.0.

Reproducible: Sometimes

[plasma-nm] [Bug 365605] New: Network widget does not show speed statistics/usage

2016-07-13 Thread Michael D via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=365605

Bug ID: 365605
Summary: Network widget does not show speed statistics/usage
   Product: plasma-nm
   Version: 5.7.0
  Platform: Kubuntu Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: applet
  Assignee: jgrul...@redhat.com
  Reporter: nortex...@gmail.com
CC: lu...@kde.org

If I open the widget for the first time on my wired connection, it shows speed
statistics both under the network name and when I click it to reveal the more
details speed statistics (with "Details" in the other "tab"). If I close it and
open the widget again, more speed statistics are shown.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open the network widget
2. Close the widget
3. Reopen the widget

Actual Results:
No speed statistics are shown

Expected Results:
Speed statistics are shown

This happens in both my Ubuntu-based distros (Ubuntu 16.04) and KDE Neon
Developer Edition (git stable).
