[plasmashell] [Bug 396495] New: Enhance pager options and visibility
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=396495 Bug ID: 396495 Summary: Enhance pager options and visibility Product: plasmashell Version: master Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: Pager Assignee: h...@kde.org Reporter: erwhite99-...@yahoo.com CC: plasma-b...@kde.org Target Milestone: 1.0 Created attachment 113926 --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=113926=edit KDE panel comparison 3.5 to 4 The plasma pager is lacking a few options to make managing desktops easier. In a previous version of KDE the original pager allowed you to name the desktops and the text was very clearly readable in the pager window and I seem to remeber you could right click on the pager and directly change the name of the desktop. As of KDE 4 a few things changed to make that made reading the workspace names very difficult. https://userbase.kde.org/Plasma/Pager The first issues is that there is no option to hide window outlines. At least for me I find window outline information pretty much useless information and it would be very helpful to add an option to hide the window outlines The second issue is that while you can "Show desktop names" the text is all but unreadable as it's obscured by the window outlines and uses a fixed font, no matter the size of the window. A primary management tool I use to keep track of what I'm doing is based on these desktop names. I have 15 desktops with various things going on and have some short text related to whata is going on. I have to squint to see the names. Here are some threads with others voicing some frustration over these pager issues and attempting to find workarounds. I haven't found anything that worked. https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=67=140136 Here someone even attempted to modify the sourcecode of the KDE4 pager to make it readable: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/alt.os.linux.suse/ag_uJE29tiM I'm stuck at work with RHEL6 and KDE4 so I don't really have the time to play with the source code or try to find some way around this but I'm hoping for the future someone can consider making these enhancements. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[Discover] [Bug 395498] Themed icons not used
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=395498 --- Comment #4 from Matthew Trescott --- Well, Blender _does_ have an appstream file, but on ArchLinux at least all the appstream info is in the archlinux-appstream-data package. In any case, very few applications in that database specify a "stock" icon. Even Kate's appstream data doesn't specify any icon---it appears that Arch developers had to add it to the appstream database. (https://cgit.kde.org/kate.git/tree/kate/data/org.kde.kate.appdata.xml) The same problem also appears to affect K3b, Gwenview, KTorrent, and probably others as well. I confirm: exactly the same as Piotr Mierzwinski in his first paragraph wrote (https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=395583#c0). But I never know (so never tried) about hot keys he wrote. And I just reboot PC with partly unsaved work (it is long HEVC video encoding process - it is important to know if you will see my log files - and I need it console output) :( Today the issue was the 3 or 4 time since about 5-July-2018. Manjaro KDE 17.1.11 (is was update from 17.1.10). I think besides others it was Plasma update also. I can provide full update log. Then I installed Manjaro 17.1.10 in the beginning of May-2018 the issue never happen (during 2 months) and effect starts only after update. So, I see that at least 1 time in every 4 days. One more detail: if to move mouse over the screen I can see the moment there mouse pointer becomes a cursor (like under text field). So I tried to click in that point and to type password a few times and later after reboot I saw in journalctl logs that it was several login tries. So looks like password field is present but completely invisible in black background with black there mentioned below. Also I can not confirm that field is working cause my tries was failed to login. What we need to do to help to trace and fix that very weird problem? I can attach logs you want After some idle time screen was waked up in 16:50 - this time was all 26 minutes before I reboot PC in 17:16 by reset btn on PC case. As I saw that problem a few times I can saw that idle process before the issue can be 1 hour or 8 hours. I am also have DVI monitor connected via passive (zero-power consumption) cable into HDMI-port of motherboard if it helps. Poitr wrote: > Issue not happens when I turn off monitor (when screen is locked), and on it > again. > As about me than I never tried this. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=345291 bugreporte...@gmail.com changed: What|Removed |Added CC||bugreporte...@gmail.com --- Comment #3 from bugreporte...@gmail.com --- This is a good suggestion and it is still relevant. The Arch Linux package arandr (a simple visual front end for XRandR) has the feature to save and to restore specific layouts. This would be a helpful addition to current versions kscreen. [frameworks-kconfig] [Bug 393516] file location for kritarc

Windows explorer is hideously bad for searching files. Try Total Commander. I can't live without it. Or try something like Explorer++ Why? I'm not sure windows explorer searches in directories with the hidden attribute set. > Krita’s preferences are saved in the file kritarc. This file is located in > C:\Users\*username*\AppData\Local\krita on Windows. There is probably some microsoft documentation about the differences between local and roaming. Roaming is where you put user settings, that should be maintained between different computers. (Of course nobody used roaming profiles because they never worked properly, but you could have folder redirection or a 3rd party solution) I think Krita should check in both locations and save it in the new location, but I'm no programmer, and can only report what I see. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

That should yield better > Thumbnail performance for Gwenview, and also generally improve things when > using non-KDE apps too. Thank you Nate. To mount each shared folder that I access each day it's a headache. Unfortunately in Plasma, when a mounted shared folder leave to be on-line, Plasma takes a long time each time any app shows a "save" dialog. And moreover, why XNview that's a non native app works without so many tricks even in KDE? I'm working from 6 years ago with KDE-Plasma and , from networks access point of view, Gnome fuse-mount works light years better than KIO. GNome-FUSE is transparent for the user, like in Windows environment. It's my experiencie along these years. Even accesing an smartphone thru MTP is easier with any desktop but in Plasma using KIO. It the sad reality. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=396410 --- Comment #4 from Nate Graham --- I'm actually not sure either. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=393516 Kenneth Evans changed: What|Removed |Added CC||k...@kenevans.net --- Comment #3 from Kenneth Evans --- I have been looking for the kritarc file for months. The manual says: Krita’s preferences are saved in the file kritarc. This file is located in C:\Users\*username*\AppData\Local\krita on Windows. It is not there. I was getting ready to submit a bug, and came across this issue. It is apparently in C:\Users\*username*\AppData\Local, not where the manual says. Who would know? (For some reason I did not find it searching all of AppData for "kritrc". in Windows Explorer.) I agree that is not where it "should" be stored. It should be stored in something application-specific (like where the manual says it is stored). It looks like you should either change it or change the documentation. Thanks. [frameworks-plasma] [Bug 396097] Bug in KDE desktop. Set Settings to doubleclick. Plasma desktop opens TWO instance when double clicking
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=396097 Nate Graham changed: What|Removed |Added CC||n...@kde.org Resolution|--- |INVALID Status|UNCONFIRMED |RESOLVED --- Comment #1 from Nate Graham --- The reason why you would want to require two clicks to open a file or folder is so you can select it first--because there are many things you can do with a selected file or folder. There are other things that cannot be selected, or that have no plausible actions you could apply to them if they were selectable. An example is a toolbar button. You don't want to have to double-click those, do you? Of course not, because after the first click selects it, there's nothing you could do with it, so that click is pointless. So the principle is this: when something can be selected because there are actions you can perform on it once it's selected, it should honor the single/double click setting. If an item can only be executed or opened, it should do that on a single click. App launchers in your Panel or the Application Launcher menu are not selectable, and even if they were, there's nothing you could do with a selected icon. Therefore, it does not make sense for them to honor the single/double click setting. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
