I believe that the reason I cannot provide a back-trace is because the crash
doesn't provide a crash dialog, it simply closes unexpectedly, no explanation
is given.

The same thing happened when I accidentally tried to make a quick clipping
group from a colorize mask.

In both cases there was no crash dialog, it simply closed with out warning.

Also should I create a separate bug report for the other incident?

[plasmashell] [Bug 396495] New: Enhance pager options and visibility

2018-07-13 Thread Eric White
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=396495

Bug ID: 396495
Summary: Enhance pager options and visibility
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: master
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Pager
  Assignee: h...@kde.org
  Reporter: erwhite99-...@yahoo.com

  Target Milestone: 1.0

Created attachment 113926
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=113926=edit
KDE panel comparison 3.5 to 4

The plasma pager is lacking a few options to make managing desktops easier. In
a previous version of KDE the original pager allowed you to name the desktops
and the text was very clearly readable in the pager window and I seem to
remeber you could right click on the pager and directly change the name of the
desktop. As of KDE 4 a few things changed to make that made reading the
workspace names very difficult.

https://userbase.kde.org/Plasma/Pager

The first issues is that there is no option to hide window outlines. At least
for me I find window outline information pretty much useless information and it
would be very helpful to add an option to hide the window outlines

The second issue is that while you can "Show desktop names" the text is all but
unreadable as it's obscured by the window outlines and uses a fixed font, no
matter the size of the window.

A primary management tool I use to keep track of what I'm doing is based on
these desktop names. I have 15 desktops with various things going on and have
some short text related to whata is going on. I have to squint to see the
names.

Here are some threads with others voicing some frustration over these pager
issues and attempting to find workarounds. I haven't found anything that
worked.

https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=67=140136

Here someone even attempted to modify the sourcecode of the KDE4 pager to make
it readable:

https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/alt.os.linux.suse/ag_uJE29tiM

I'm stuck at work with RHEL6 and KDE4 so I don't really have the time to play
with the source code or try to find some way around this but I'm hoping for the
future someone can consider making these enhancements.

[Discover] [Bug 395498] Themed icons not used

2018-07-13 Thread Matthew Trescott
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=395498

Well, Blender _does_ have an appstream file, but on ArchLinux at least all the
appstream info is in the archlinux-appstream-data package. In any case, very
few applications in that database specify a "stock" icon. Even Kate's appstream
data doesn't specify any icon---it appears that Arch developers had to add it
to the appstream database.

The same problem also appears to affect K3b, Gwenview, KTorrent, and probably
others as well. Perhaps this problem could be brought to other (KDE)
developers' attention somehow.

Ah, sorry for the long silence.
Let's see, when i click Copy Dropbox Link in Dolphin's context menu (anywhere
in Dropbox (sub)folder(s)) now it does the following:
taskbar is unresponsive for about half a minute, then Copied link on 'filename'
notification appears but there's actually nothing new in the clipboard. And btw
alt-tabbing works just fine while taskbar is hanging.
I.e. behavior is still essentially the same as before - trying to get a public
link for any file anywhere in Dropbox folder(s) results in failure and taskbar
hangs with no usable links produced ever.

[kscreenlocker] [Bug 395583] Cannot login after lock screen which went to sleep

Created attachment 113925

journaictl

Hi to all!

I confirm: exactly the same as Piotr Mierzwinski in his first paragraph wrote
(https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=395583#c0).

But I never know (so never tried) about hot keys he wrote. And I just reboot PC
with partly unsaved work (it is long HEVC video encoding process - it is
important to know if you will see my log files - and I need it console output)
:(

Today the issue was the 3 or 4 time since about 5-July-2018. Manjaro KDE
17.1.11 (is was update from 17.1.10). I think besides others it was Plasma
update also. I can provide full update log. Then I installed Manjaro 17.1.10 in
the beginning of May-2018 the issue never happen (during 2 months) and effect
starts only after update. So, I see that at least 1 time in every 4 days.

One more detail: if to move mouse over the screen I can see the moment there
mouse pointer becomes a cursor (like under text field). So I tried to click in
that point and to type password a few times and later after reboot I saw in
journalctl logs that it was several login tries. So looks like password field
is present but completely invisible in black background with black there
mentioned below. Also I can not confirm that field is working cause my tries
was failed to login.

What we need to do to help to trace and fix that very weird problem?

I can attach logs you want

After some idle time screen was waked up in 16:50 - this time was all 26
minutes before I reboot PC in 17:16 by reset btn on PC case.

As I saw that problem a few times I can saw that idle process before the issue
can be 1 hour or 8 hours.

I am also have DVI monitor connected via passive (zero-power consumption) cable
into HDMI-port of motherboard if it helps.

Poitr wrote:

As about me than I never tried this.

I do not any of sleep/hibernate activity on my desktop PC (video coding,
torrents, remote connection)

Poitr wrote:

N! And me also! I was too lazy to report it and have several weird
discussions to use manjaro forum to report component bugs (but every GNU/Linux
are all about components).

Also the issue eith lock screen does not appear constantly: it may be 10
successful lock and unlocks and eleventh unlock will be "broken".

So may be it is fixed in 5.13.3 but I still has 5.13.2.

Here's another indication of a bug:
>From application launcher, utilities, I click on popup notes (knotes)
This gives me a taskbar icon. Right click on that shows delete selected notes.
When I click on that I get an empty list, even though all my desktops were
already filled with empty notes before I did any of this.
I can create notes and get them to show up in that list. And when I quit notes,
the new ones disappear but not the old ones.

I can confirm the same behavior reported here in version 5.13.3 on Arch Linux.

I have mentioned in another bug report that I would like to be able to use
arandr (or xrandr) to management my screen layouts instead of kscreen, but
kscreen cannot be easily removed due to powerdevil depending on it. Either
giving kscreen the functionality offered by arandr, or allowing kscreen to be
disabled without being uninstalled would be useful changes.

I also support this idea. However, my vote is to add an option to a kscreen
config file to pass all or specific actions to custom scripts. For example, I
would like to have kscreen do nothing and to use arandr (or xrandr) to apply my
desired screen layouts.

As Simone Gaiarin said in comment 34, in KScreen 5.11.5 the situation was
improved. However, in plasmashell 5.13.2 the only way I have found to dock and
undock is to do it while logged into plasma. If I dock or undock while at the
sddm screen or while suspended, kscreen will not restore a proper screen
configuration. Sometimes things become so bad that a forced restart is
required.

The package arandr can be useful to manually cycling between saved screen
layouts. It would require loading and applying a saved setting in the GUI. (If
someone wished, they could assign a hot key to run the saved settings, because
each setting is an xrandr script.)

Is is possible that kscreen can co-exist with arandr? Or can kscreen be
disabled (without being removed) so that arandr can be used instead?

On my Windows machine I get an error when plate solving:

Howver as far as i can tell there is no problem with my Wifi connection
(browser working, reporting this bug).
According to this post on the INDI forums:
http://indilib.org/forum/ekos/3446-error-no-connection-to-the-internet-when-plate-solving.html
It is a bug in the QT library that KStars is built against.

Is there anything i can do besides building Kstars myself as described in the
post?
Can the library be updated in the next release?

I didn't have a Phabricator account at the time I reported this bug, and I lost
track of this bug when I brought the other patches over to Phabricator. Sorry!

Yes, GNU libintl on Alpine will override musl. We're shipping gettext-tiny in
Adélie now, which has a tiny libintl.a containing only this symbol and a few
others that are needed. However, since "libintl is part of libc", ki18n still
won't link to it, and still fails with this error.

Thank you for the style notes, Michael; I'll be sure to keep them in mind for
any future patches I write.

This is a good suggestion and it is still relevant. The Arch Linux package
arandr (a simple visual front end for XRandR) has the feature to save and to
restore specific layouts. This would be a helpful addition to current versions
kscreen. In recent updates (starting around plasma version 5.13.2) kscreen has
become much worse at managing screens properly, particularly in laptops that
dock to multiple monitors.

I was not able to find it for months.

I agree that if fixed, new versions could be made to search possible old places

On the other hand, I do get it when using Alt (or Ctrl) with the Brush. (I
have an additional keybinding for Alt as well as Ctrl, which is not what I am

Windows explorer is hideously bad for searching files. Try Total Commander. I
can't live without it. Or try something like Explorer++
Why? I'm not sure windows explorer searches in directories with the hidden
attribute set.

> Krita’s preferences are saved in the file kritarc. This file is located in
> C:\Users\*username*\AppData\Local\krita on Windows.

There is probably some microsoft documentation about the differences between
local and roaming. Roaming is where you put user settings, that should be
maintained between different computers.
(Of course nobody used roaming profiles because they never worked properly, but
you could have folder redirection or a 3rd party solution)

I think Krita should check in both locations and save it in the new location,
but I'm no programmer, and can only report what I see.

Thank you Nate. To mount each shared folder that I access each day it's a
headache. Unfortunately in Plasma, when a mounted shared folder leave to be
on-line, Plasma takes a long time each time any app shows a "save" dialog. And
moreover, why XNview that's a non native app works without so many tricks even
in KDE? I'm working from 6 years ago with KDE-Plasma and , from networks access
point of view, Gnome fuse-mount works light years better than KIO. GNome-FUSE
is transparent for the user, like in Windows environment. It's my experiencie
along these years. Even accesing an smartphone thru MTP is easier with any
desktop but in Plasma using KIO. It the sad reality.

As for removing them all, you can right-click on them and click remove. It'll

I have been looking for the kritarc file for months. The manual says:

Krita’s preferences are saved in the file kritarc. This file is located in
C:\Users\*username*\AppData\Local\krita on Windows.

It is not there. I was getting ready to submit a bug, and came across this
issue. It is apparently in C:\Users\*username*\AppData\Local, not where the
manual says. Who would know?

(For some reason I did not find it searching all of AppData for "kritrc". in
Windows Explorer.)

I agree that is not where it "should" be stored. It should be stored in
something application-specific (like where the manual says it is stored).

It looks like you should either change it or change the documentation.

Thanks.

Note: This is under frameworks-kconfig. I don't know what this is.
It is happening in Krita 4.1 for me.

[plasmashell] [Bug 396289] Reduce width of "Minimize Windows"/"Show Desktop" applet

2018-07-13 Thread Gregor Mi
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=396289

@Nate: I also dislike the look with the small icon and large click area. For me
this workaround is currently ok because I get more panel space and a feeling
that the previous large width is really not needed.

Generally, I also find it better when the graphics of the Show Desktop area
reflects the click area. I wonder if it is possible to have an icon that adapts
to the widget shape or let the widget draw something on its own which fits to a
rectangular bar shape. Surely, another custom setting should be avoided.

Nate Graham changed:

The reason why you would want to require two clicks to open a file or folder is
so you can select it first--because there are many things you can do with a
selected file or folder.

There are other things that cannot be selected, or that have no plausible
actions you could apply to them if they were selectable. An example is a
toolbar button. You don't want to have to double-click those, do you? Of course
not, because after the first click selects it, there's nothing you could do
with it, so that click is pointless.

So the principle is this: when something can be selected because there are
actions you can perform on it once it's selected, it should honor the
single/double click setting. If an item can only be executed or opened, it
should do that on a single click.

App launchers in your Panel or the Application Launcher menu are not
selectable, and even if they were, there's nothing you could do with a selected
icon. Therefore, it does not make sense for them to honor the single/double
click setting.

PK, is it just Kolourpaint for you, or are there any other affected apps/icons?
If so, which ones?

Aleix, could this be an issue with Kolourpaint's metadata? Either way, it's a
pretty high visibility papercut since we have Kolourpaint on the Featured apps
