[plasmashell] [Bug 396111] Activity doesn't update files shown on desktop

2018-07-17 Thread Eike Hein
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=396111

Sorry, I need some more information just to make absolutely sure.

There's two ways to change the folder that Folder View shows when used as the
desktop contaiment:

1) System Settings -> Applications -> Desktop path
2) "Configure Desktop" -> Location

I think you used '2', right? Just to make sure (because the way directory
updates happen differs between them).

And then you copy a file to the folder you configured, and it doesn't show up.

The most frequent reason this happens is: The system is using inotify to
monitor folders for changes, but something else on the system is using inotify
a lot, and hitting the system limit of too many inotify watches.

You could find some debug hints here:
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/13758877/how-do-i-find-out-what-inotify-watches-have-been-registered

[kwin] [Bug 395632] On RX Vega 64, KDE compositor does not run at 144Hz even though monitor refresh rate is set to 144Hz

2018-07-17 Thread Benjamin Xiao
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=395632

So it seems like if Kwin thinks that triple buffering is available then it
causes "Painting blocks for vertical retrace" to be no.

-
| KWIN_TRIPLE_BUFFER | Painting blocks for vertical retrace |
|
| not set | no |
|
| 1 | no |
|
| 0 | yes |
|

I am assuming that when it isn't set, the heuristics are detecting that triple
buffering is available. After all, it is DRI3.

Sorry, there is a typo. It should say "8. Copy a file to your desktop folder".

Point is that I have second activity with folder view and I chose my folder.
Then I copy a file to that folder and I don't see it on desktop. When I change
desktop folder to other folder and then return to my folder, file appears on
desktop.

It doesn't matter how the file got there. I tried copying via Double Commander,
drag & drop via Dolphin and 'touch file.txt' within my folder. Neither of those
files is displayed on desktop.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=384974

(In reply to Julian Schraner from comment #6)

I'm sorry, Julian. I didn't pretend that my comment were "aggresive". This
thread is not the place to begin a discussion about my experiencie with
KDE-Plasma, so I only treated to be honest in my experiencie. I'm a fan of KDE
applications like Krusader, Kate, Kdenlive, Krita and even I donated as a way
to thank developers their work. But you must understand that if base system in
not working as it should do at 2018, I can't make use of Plasma desktop as it
should be. That's to say (and this is only an example, I could you tell you
more examples) if it's knew that MTP protocol is *not* working in Plasma (and
anyone can check it), why Plasma continues this non working applications (or
KIO slave) to be disposable for final users? The experience for a new user
trying to make work something that simply doesn't work is really maddening.

Open source world is sometimes obscure. In Gnome and derivatives MTP works like
a charm. Why KDE MTP developers can't take that source code and learn of it or
adapt it or simply abandon that project till it really works? It's only my
opinion and I'm sure many people will be agree, of course, but I took Linux
with KDE as a professional platform many years ago and nowadays I'm frustrated
cause things that was working today fails.

I wish you understand my point of view.

Anyway, thank you for your advice about the "Importance" field that I sometimes
forget ;)

Regards

If you have a panel on the top edge of the screen the Plasma Search bar will be
partially covered by it. This only happens on Wayland, on a Xorg session the
Plasma Search bar will appear right under the edge of the panel.

How to reproduce:
-Start a Plasma Wayland Session
-Unlock the widgets
-Right click on the default panel > Panel Options > Panel Settings
-Move the cursor on the "Screen edge" box
-While holding left click drag it to the top edge of your screen
-Lock the widgets
-click on an empty part of the desktop
-start typing on your keyboard in order to make the Plasma search bar appear

I've never set vsync to anything else besides Automatic. I've always kept it at

Automatic.

I then tried switching to all the other vsync options and then rerunning the
debug output. However, no matter what I try, "Painting blocks for vertical
retrace" is always no.

Is there some vsync option I need to enable in the amd driver?

It is clear the 'offending' if statement can not be changed without a lot of
work. There are however two ways around this, the first:

if ((unchangeable && part) || other)

where `other` could come from the rules. From what I can tell (as a noob in C++
and kwin) there is another more elegant option as well. It seems that the
window rules are applied at a later state in the code and there is an option an
option available for `Activity` that currently has the following options:

- All activities
- Activity X
- Activity Y

In my naive mind it should be quite easy to add the option 'Current activity'.
That way I could just add the rules for the few programs I want to force on the
current activity. As it happens, I already have such a rule to disable the
border.

Git commit 20c6faa54cc80b5d525e0cddca052c0e5b2888c8 by Elvis Angelaccio.
Committed on 17/07/2018 at 19:30.
Pushed by elvisangelaccio into branch 'Applications/18.08'.

Stop ignoring compression options when dropping files

Compression options set by CreateDialog were only taken into account
when adding files through the AddDialog, but not when adding files by
dropping them from Dolphin.

We fix this issue by moving the init of compression options in a new
dedicated function, which we can call also when dropping files.

While at it, this change allows us to simplify the `droppedFiles()`
signal emitted by ArchiveModel.

erm, I don't want to say anything. But running all apps on XWayland is part of
our short term strategy, see:
https://blog.martin-graesslin.com/blog/2018/03/unsetting-qt_qpa_platform-environment-variable-by-default/

If you want to use Wayland and at the same time don't miss some features of X11
I think that's a totally possible way. I'm using this combination for years.

Ok, I just re-read the relevant code section.

If you have:
Painting blocks for vertical retrace: no

then the refresh rate is ignored and the maxFps setting is honored, which is by
default 60. So the true problem is that you don't have vsync.

[plasmashell] [Bug 396616] New: Last icon in task manager not shown, but adding an extra icon causes it to shrink and display all

2018-07-17 Thread David
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=396616

Bug ID: 396616
Summary: Last icon in task manager not shown, but adding an
extra icon causes it to shrink and display all
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.13.2
  Platform: Debian unstable
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Icons-only Task Manager
  Assignee: h...@kde.org
  Reporter: david.cortes.riv...@gmail.com
CC: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: 1.0

Sometimes, depending on the size of the task manager and how it is filled, the
icons-only task manager would fail to show the very last icon (as the space
doesn't fit given the icons' sizes). However, after launching an extra
application (adding one extra icon), these icons would shrink, and the
previously-hidden icon would become visible, along with the new icon.

In my case, with a resolution of 1366x768, big icons, and roughly half of the
task bar used by other widgets, this problem happens with exactly the 14th
icon, which is not visible while the other 13 are, but when adding a 15th icon,
the 14th and 15th both become visible.

video of half-working

Adding this solves it for desktop icon menu:
menu->setAttribute(Qt::WA_TranslucentBackground);
However this is not the only case of using QMenu::popup() (see video)
Some 3rd party apps use it too.
Can this be done in Breeze theme itself?
Is there any technical possibility that doesn't allow it?

Status: UNCONFIRMED

Video demonstration

In Krita 4.2.0 Pre-Alpha (krita-nightly-x64-v4.0.0.51-1735-g024d1a36eb), undone
selected areas aren't properly unloaded.

Steps to reproduce:

- Open a new document
- Select a large area with any Selection Tool (I recommend Outline Selection
Tool)
- Make new smaller selections (note: Selection Tools set to Replace mode),
making sure the new selections overlap the first one
- Undo actions until you're back at the first selection
- Paint inside of the selection
- Painted areas will be restricted to boxes of the undone selections

Occurs with and without Canvas Graphics Acceleration.

Note: This bug has occasionally enabled me to be able to draw *outside* of a
selected area, but I have yet to figure out how to reproduce this consistently.

You should, on Windows 10, not have any antivirus application other than
Windows Defender. All the others are snake oil, and cause problems. See

As for loading resources in the background, we did that for years, and it gave
untold problems.

In any case, something like this is not a topic for a bug report.

I think if I disable message counter (counter in app and m_Counter in the

Although, without any fix, removing counter would allow message replay attacks.

Solution: don't use so high a transparency value. 60% is really high. There's
not really a good way to simultaneously allow the background to show through,
and also keep text readable with all possible backgrounds. This is going to
have to be solved with user discretion, I'm afraid.

Crash report from KDE crash reporter

When opening or using the applications menu/start menu when using Wayland,
Plasmashell often hangs or crashes. This can happen in several different ways
but I'm not sure if these are related:

1) Plasmashell crashes and restarts, and the KDE bug reporter is started. A
crash report is attached.

2) Plasmashell freezes and stops working (CPU usage goes to 100% of 1 core) but
keyboard and mouse still work and can be used to switch between tasks or to
access text console.

3) Plasmashell freezes and keyboard and mouse are frozen too. Only kernel SysRq
keys can be used to reboot the computer or sometimes to recover from the
situation without rebooting.

I think this problem, and especially nr. 3), happens more often if you move the
mouse over the menu immediately after clicking the menu icon, i.e. before the
menu opening effect has finished. Or, move the mouse *very* fast over the
opened menu.

This does not seem to happen when X11 is used.

(In reply to Martin Flöser from comment #28)
> If KWin correctly detects the refresh rate the maxfps setting has no
> influence at all. It's the same code.

If I set MaxFPS=144, there's definitely a difference. I can feel it in webpage
scrolling and when moving windows around.

I wish there was another way for me to prove it to you besides the ShowFPS
plugin. The difference is very visible. Also doesn't the fact that ShowFPS
shows different values prove that there's something going on? Yes I get that it
isn't accurate, but the MaxFPS setting is doing something because when I have
it set to 144, Show FPS effect gives me 100. If I don't have it set, it gives
me 75.

If the code there is exactly the same, there must be a different section of the
code that's influencing this.

If you don't think that Show FPS is accurate, could you please let me know of
an alternative way to prove it? This is NOT placebo. Many people on Reddit are
also experiencing this same issue and have had to use MaxFPS=144. You've
already posted several times there saying that it isn't a valid solution and
that we should file bug reports, but currently that remains the only valid
solution to fully taking advantage of our high refresh rate monitors.

It's very cool that you found a solution. Thank you for helping me out. I would

However even with the patch applied I still have the glitch.

But is it possible to load that brushes staff in the background? So I can see
loaded image in application and while im thinking how to create masterpiece
from it that brushes staff will be loaded?

Hi,

I'm sorry, but this is not a bug report. A bug report is about some problem in
krita's code that prevents normal functioning.

>From the sound of it, you've got some "security" application that keeps
scanning Krita when starting it, delaying start-up.

In any case, we cannot do anything with a report like this.

Then again: krita loads much more stuff on start-up than Word does, like
brushes and gradients and things. That's what currently is taking time, when
it's not security software doing dumb things. So that comparison goes out of
the window.

And once again: Krita is already C++ -- where did you get the weird idea that
it might be C# or Java?

Hello

Krita for Windows has extremely poor startup time.

9 seconds on high end PC (warm start) is much more then Word startup time that
offer more functional.

It's too long.

Could you please consider some choices:
- use C++, i heard its much faster then C# (Microsoft Word) or Java.
- load UI and then load some plugins asynchronously (don't know what is this,
huh, but sounds cool)

Could you please reduce it to 2 seconds.

Thank you.

While this seems like a reasonable idea, IMHO, grouping into rows would look
better and allow finding the right window faster.

@Ralf there's something interesting in that backtrace that I hadn't realised.

which is fair enough

then we get

before the blocking

#0  0x7fffe7398dc8 in QXcbClipboard::waitForClipboardEvent

but it means we load the clipboard data (in a blocking way!) for every single
QQuickTextEdit. Plasma has a lot of text fields which is why the slightly slow
clipboard event stacks up rapidly into a problem.

not stable enough to make that effort worth-while, but you're just adding
unnecessary overhead.

[Falkon] [Bug 396531] No speed-dial after upgrade to KF5.48

2018-07-17 Thread Pawel
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=396531

(In reply to David Rosca from comment #7)
> Do you use different Qt version for your build?

No. My system:
Qt 5.11.1 from official Arch's repository
KF 5.48 from official Arch's repository and it should be build against of Qt
5.11.1
Falkon - my version is build from GIT on Qt 5.11.1 and KF 5.48 (I rebuild it
after announcing this bug, too).
I try falkon from Arch's repository, but speed dial doesn't works on it, also.
Before upgrade to KF5.48RC (it was my build from source) speed dial works
perfectly. After upgrade to KF5.48RC and later to KF5.48 (from repository) it
stops working anymore.

I'll try falkon from repository on "clear" new user and/or deleter falkonrc and
cache.

[krita] [Bug 396606] New: Undoing a crop action causes data corruption

2018-07-17 Thread Tyson Tan
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=396606

Bug ID: 396606
Summary: Undoing a crop action causes data corruption
   Product: krita
Version: nightly build (please specify the git hash!)
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Tools
  Assignee: krita-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: tyson...@mail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

In krita-4.2.0-pre-alpha. when undoing a crop action under certain
circumstances, the data of the cropped areas will be corrupted.

1) Drag an existing JPG/PNG into Krita
2) Crop it
3) Undo the crop
4) Although Krita can restore the document's dimensions, it does not fully
restore its information. It's weird that the restored area of the picture looks
like it has the same size as the crop area, but it is actually not the same.

Tested on krita-4.2.0-pre-alpha-11668da-x86_64.appimage, Manjaro 17.1.11 KDE

KMail does saveMainWindowSettings() from mainwindow destructor:
https://cgit.kde.org/kmail.git/tree/src/kmmainwin.cpp#n99

That code should probably be moved to QMainWindow::closeEvent()

void KMMainWin::closeEvent(QCloseEvent *event)
{
QMainWindow::closeEvent(event);
if(event->isAccepted()) {
... saveMainWindowSettings() ...
}
}

[krita] [Bug 396605] New: Cancelling a transformation of a layer causes data corruption

2018-07-17 Thread Tyson Tan
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=396605

Bug ID: 396605
Summary: Cancelling a transformation of a layer causes data
corruption
   Product: krita
Version: nightly build (please specify the git hash!)
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: critical
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Tools/Transform
  Assignee: krita-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: tyson...@mail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

In Krita 4.2.0 pre-alpha, cancelling a transform tool action causes weird layer
data corruption.

# TYPE A
1) Drag any jpg/png file into Krita
2) Ctrl+T
3) ESC or switch to another tool
4) The picture is cleared, and it cannot be undone.

# TYPE B
1) Create a new document
2) Draw something on Layer 2
3) Ctrl+T
4) ESC or switch to another tool
5) Layer 2 is cleared and cannot be undone.

Tested on krita-4.2.0-pre-alpha-11668da-x86_64.appimage, Manjaro 17.1.11 KDE

[frameworks-kxmlgui] [Bug 395988] KMainWindow saves invalid window/widget state under Qt 5.11.1

KMail does saveMainWindowSettings() from mainwindow destructor:
https://cgit.kde.org/kmail.git/tree/src/kmmainwin.cpp#n99
That is broken in Qt 5.11.1 regardless of kf5 patches. It should be fixed in
kmail.
