[Powerdevil] [Bug 425890] New: monitor always turns itself back on a few seconds after turning off

2020-08-27 Thread tguen
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=425890

Bug ID: 425890
Summary: monitor always turns itself back on a few seconds
after turning off
   Product: Powerdevil
   Version: 5.19.4
  Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: tg...@tutanota.com
  Target Milestone: ---

I set my keyboard's sleep key to turn my screen off. This worked fine when I
was using Nvidia drivers with my old GTX 960. At some point I replaced it with
a Radeon 5600XT with Mesa drivers. Immediately after this change, pressing the
sleep key shuts the screen off as usual, but it turns itself back on after 1-10
seconds. I have the same problem if I run `xset dpms force off` from a
terminal, or if I wait 10 minutes for the screen to turn off automatically.

I booted Kubuntu from a usb drive and the issue still occurs. I also tried
Ubuntu and Xubuntu, and the problem does not occur on Gnome or XFCE.

---

May be related to #423035, but that specifies using a shortcut. My issue occurs
any time the screen turns off.

May be related to #348082, although that is old and only mentions the lock
screen.

Git commit ad0ab9efeba6e2fe3bb86207a91499e4e8eb170f by Gilles Caulier.
Committed on 28/08/2020 at 05:19.
Pushed by cgilles into branch 'master'.

IPTC and Utf8 support: If a tag is string, check if global IPTC characterset is
null to convert in latin1, else we expect to interpret the string as utf8.
We use std::string accessor from Exiv2 to get an Utf8 cenversion of string. If
it do not work, well this problem need to be reported as UPSTREAM
to Exiv2 as pre-cenversion of string is not done in background by the library.
This patch prevent to display latin1 string with a wrong Utf8 conversion which
can break some characters.

We need the application text trace captured with DebugView.

A crash backtrace captured withe a debugger will be a plus of course, for ex to
run digiKam in QtCreator.

This happens to me since Dolphin 20.08 without the need to mount anything.
The space information bar disappears from one specific tab (and not others)
when a new file is "suddenly" added to the folder being shown in that tab, by,
say, being moved there by another program, a download completing, etc.

When this happens, the right-click option is still checked, and the bar can be
brought back just by unchecking that, and checking it again.

SUMMARY
In Neon Bionic, GTK3 applications used to automatically change their colour
scheme to match the colour scheme when the colour scheme is changed, but as of
Neon Focal this no longer occurs. None of the GTK3 applications, excluding the
mini free space indicators in Nemo file manager's sidebar, get coloured at all
by the colorreload-gtk-module when changing a colour scheme.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Apply a colour scheme
2. Open a GTK3 application
3. Apply another colour scheme

OBSERVED RESULT
The colour scheme isn't changed in that GTK3 application, or in fact any GTK3
applications.

EXPECTED RESULT
The colour scheme would also change immediately in other GTK3 applications.

Compensate for global scale factor when using xcb fb plugin

The screen geometry is reported in device independent pixels, so it has
to be multiplied by the devicePixelRatio to get the size of the underlying
framebuffer. Otherwise, only the top left of the screen will be captured.

This matches the behavior of QScreen::grabWindow(...), which also
returns a QPixmap of the given size scaled by devicePixelRatio.

Thanks, Laurent. Hmm, something is definitely screwey here, though. I tested on
a fresh user account and it does it there, too. If I set the delay time
sufficiently far into the future then it doesn't do it. So I tried a binary
search, and ended up concluding that it doesn't matter what time you set: if
it's for the same day, the message will get sent immediately.

I'm wondering if timezones might also factor in, but no evidence as yet.

testing only tiny titlebar button option patch

While this patch didn't end up giving me a vertically shorter titlebar, but
it's useful for testing, with the tiny titlebar button option it offers helping
to ensure it's not the button size controlling the titlebar height, just the
font size.

(Actually, being the first hack I tried it did give me a smaller than default
titlebar, but not small enough. Clearly it was the font padding I had to
attack. And after I did so I could actually choose the existing small or
normal button sizes without increasing titlebar height, so this patch was no
longer of much use except to ensure the buttons did not interfere with testing
the padding patch.)

oxygen titlebar negative vmargins demo hack-patch

Glad I took the time for a second look. A lot more made sense this time thru
and I ended up dropping one patch entirely as unnecessary, and making another
basically test-time only.

This is the main idea here.

At the given negative 2 TitleBar_TopMargin and -1 TitleBar_BottomMargin
settings it squeezes things slightly on the Noto Sans Medium font, normally no
exotic (aka mostly ASCII) characters common in my titlebar here. It's likely
to be worse for Asian charactersets and the like, and as such it's likely to be
the lower bound.

Zeroing out both values (along with TitleBar_OutlineMargin, already zeroed out
here) would yield a somewhat less vertically squeezed titlebar that if I'm
understanding the call to qt font-functions the metrics are based on correctly,
should just fit maximum font ascenders and descenders even for non-western
characters. Zeroed values resulted in a 16px high titlebar at 8pt font I was
working with.

But the results for the negative values as posted are even better than I
expected, a 10px high titlebar at the 8pt font size I was working with. That
allowed me to increase the font to 10pt for 14px high. I'll have to play a bit
more to see whether I prefer the extra 4px I get at 8pt font or the somewhat
more comfortable to read 10pt. (9pt was the same 14px high titlebar as 10pt,
while 11pt increase it to 17px. So 8pt and 10pt are the practical choices.)

Would be cool if I could do the option UI too but that's beyond me ATM.
Assuming it's implemented, maybe I can learn from the commit adding it...

There's another minor testing-only patch coming too, adding a tiny button size,
but it didn't reduce the titlebar size so I consider it only practical for
testing.

[kdeconnect] [Bug 421186] Android and Plasma is not communicating on phone's portable WiFi HOTSPOT

2020-08-27 Thread Benedict
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=421186

I've checked the source code at
https://invent.kde.org/network/kdeconnect-android

Upon quick text search, I didn't found any reference to WIFI_AP_STATE string,
and the manifest does not include receiver.

This almost certainly tells that the android app isn't detecting status of WiFi
hotspot, thus disabling the service as if the phone is not connected to wifi at
all.

Sorry I have no Android/Java background, I wish I can help further... (just a
flutter beginner here)

"You're not connected to a WiFi network" also happens to me on the KDE Connect
application. This does _not_ happen when the Android is connected using USB
tethering, only on WiFi tethering.

Another KDE Connect Android can connect to the desktop, but the KDE Connect on
the WiFi broadcasting / hotspotting phone cannot connect, showing the
aforementioned error message.

Tried adding desktop IP address to the mobile app, it's on the custom device
list, it still doesn't not work after refreshing (same "you're not connected to
a WiFi network" message.

Issue is replicated when the WiFi broadcasting phone is switched.

This looks really good, thanks.

The commit message could explain the patch a bit more, which would make review
a bit easier. And please add the bug number in the commit message or the URL to
this bug.

Also, please add a NEWS entry for the bug.

It is interesting how similar rdrand and rdseed are, but they do have separate
cpuid flags, and are apparently using a different way to generate the random
bits. I am not sure the way a 64bit value is created from two calls to rdseed
produces the correct "randomness", but it is exactly how rdrand does it. So
we'll have to assume that was done correctly.

Given that the rdrand and rdseed implementation are so similar I wonder if you
could merge the /* 0F C7 /6 no-F2-or-F3 = RDRAND */ and /* 0F C7 /7 = RDSEED */
parts. RDSEED also has the no-F3-or-F3 part, so basically you could just check:

   (gregLO3ofRM(modrm) == 6 && (archinfo->hwcaps & VEX_HWCAPS_AMD64_RDRAND))
|| (gregLO3ofRM(modrm) == 7 && (archinfo->hwcaps &
VEX_HWCAPS_AMD64_RDSEED))
   && epartIsReg(modrm) && haveNoF2noF3(pfx)
   && (sz == 8 || sz == 4 || sz == 2))

And then make the dLO and dHI assignments depend on gregLO3ofRM(modrm) == 6 for
amd64g_dirtyhelper_RDRAND or gregLO3ofRM(modrm) == 7 for
amd64g_dirtyhelper_RDSEED (and same for the DIP). That would remove some
duplicate code.

+/* This is wrong...
assert( !(cmask != 0 && dmask != 0) );
assert( !(cmask == 0 && dmask == 0) );
+*/

It is indeed wrong. But please instead of commenting it out, either remove it
or adjust the asserts to also take the new bmask into account.

But all the above are really just nitpicks, nice work.

It might actually depend on the choice of the font. Can it be that the selected

Fix loading visibility of colorize masks

We shouldn't use KisLayerPropertiesIcons::setNodePropertyAutoUndo()
unless we are ready the action to happen asynchronously in a stroke.

In the loading code we should just assign the properties directly,

Will install the Debian native version whch should yield better results.

[frameworks-kxmlgui] [Bug 415150] Save window positions

2020-08-27 Thread Piotr Mierzwinski

> > developers ignore it

> Developers don't ignore tickets. Multiscreen issues are nearly impossible to
> debug, because 1) you need a matching hardware configuration to be able to

> down, on power up, on suspend and sleep modes, ...).

I apologize because too harsh words about developers. I face with this issue
some time and didn't saw iny reply on my bug reports. Only in first (the oldest
on list I put in one post) one developer suggested that my hardware is broken
:(, which wasn't truth.
I'm not sure where lies the problem of detecting if display is turned on/off.
Maybe in possibility of communication by DDC protocol, which seems my display
(NEC EA275WMi) and some other like my projector (Optoma) and another monitor
produced by DELL doesn't have, or maybe xranr or different X application is not
able to get this information from display.

I thought that checking and detecting problems with multi monitor configuration
isn't so hard if user uses graphics with open source drivers like Intel
integra, where is usually uses driver i915 and second thing is just xorg for
X11 session.

And BTW. Is possible to provide all details about hardware users have, but I
noticed nobody asks for it. Maybe some configuration might similar to this what
developer has.

Anyway I'm not going to push on fixing this issue if event this problem happens
in the most popular in the world desktop operating system.

As mentioned before, this was working before, it isn't something that never
worked. Also, when importing with other software which is using gphoto2 as well
as darktable, I can perfectly see the thumbnails.

I did another test. I used the gphoto2 cli to get the thumbnails of several
RAWs directly from my camera using

$gphoto2 -t 330-335

I got the thumbnails from all of them with no issues, so I think we can discard
that the problem is in libgphoto2

Thanks a lot for adding switcher (enable/disable).

Your option is very nice and I'm sure that a lot of users will be happy having
it in yours KDE/Plasma.

I would be very happy, and maybe others also, if option for moving window
between displays would be available for taskbar icon (for running and/or
minimized application). Reported last year bug:

As I promised. I retested issue on neon-developer and met the same behavior -
the newest (unstable) Plasma sees desktop coming from turned off display.

Nevertheless I need to apologize what I said about multi monitor configuration
in Windows. I claimed that on Windows this works well. Unfortunately doesn't.
I tested multi monitor configuration with Windows 10 Professional (so not the
newest build) and turned out that Windows behaves the same like Plasma, so
desktop coming from turned off display is achievable.

Thanks for the RAW file. When I copy the file to my memory card and connect my
camera via PTP/MTP, a thumbnail is displayed in digiKam. As the thumbnail is
created by the device with the PTP/MTP protocol, either your D300 camera cannot
do this for RAW files or GPhoto2 makes a mistake with your camera model.
Firmware updated from the camera? Maybe reset the camera to the factory
settings?

SUMMARY

I often use kdeconnect, sometimes with two kdecomputers ans two smartphones.

One of my (old)smartphone cannot still connect with others. Sometimes (devices
must be up and kdeconnect lauched) it can connect with the other (newer)
smartphone, but still not with the two computers. (at the same times the two
computers can connect together and with the "newer" smartphone).

I checked that I can ping on the (old) smartphone, but do not know how to check
on the right port.

Do not know if the is a relation, but sometimes connections between computers
need association, and I do not know/remenber how I can avtivate or desactivate
this security checkup... in case it would be the problem.

It should be a missing package problem. And Qt4 packages are completely out of

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=425878

It may be that there are thumbnails on the device. But digikam requests a
thumbnail via the PTP driver, if this is not provided by the device, digiKam
would have to download the entire file and create a thumbnail itself, which is
exactly what Gwenview does. But it is definitely a fault of the device that it
does not fully support the PTP protocol.

In PTP mode the thumbnail is sent / created by the connected device. On my
Android phone, all thumbnails of image files are displayed.
Which phone model do you use?

I added the fix in PR for query parser.
So I think it's now ready to test:

You'll need to purge the old data to trigger the new code.
Right now I'm able to search Chinese content/file name quite easily.

This does not work at all in some languages, this is basically what the bug
report is about.

(In reply to Marco Martin from comment #6)
> would be ok to restrict automatic shortcuts to standard latin? (then having
> to explicitly set one with a non latin string which can have a shortcut)

Yes please. Also when if translators need to manually set an accelerator or
shortcut key, please clearly mark that cases so translators can take care of
that. Currently in QWidget application, no accelerator key will be assigned if
the translated string contains no latin-1 character. This is also far from
ideal.

I also wrote a report about that too:

We kinda do.

"Automatically switch all running streams..." setting is basically a front end
to enabling the module switch-on-connect.

I'm happy to expand on that; I'm not convinced generalising this is going to be
a good idea. A lot of modules need extra settings, we want nice human readable
names etc.

Can you expand on your "for example" list. So we can deterimine what UI works
best.

Yes, I have a scaling factor different from 100%. The screenshot is on 150%
(Windows lists it as recommended), But the problem also appears on every one
different from 100%. (On 100% everything is fine.)

Also, this appears on every document, even txt and yes, the icons also seems to
be blocky too. You can really see it on lines in the icon for Thumbnails and
Marking.

I have it installed from the Windows Store, and I am running it just normally.

[Oxygen] [Bug 425874] Shorter titlebar (without smaller font) option needed: less padding

2020-08-27 Thread Duncan
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=425874

--- Comment #2 from Duncan <1i5t5.dun...@cox.net> ---
Forgot to mention, all my scaling is 1.0 (on X, obviously). I do /not/ have
font-dpi forced but the xorg log says it's the standard 96x96.

(Actual physical is dual 4k 75-inch TV-monitors, ~59 dpi according to the
online calculator I just googled on ddg. Yes, I'm fighting for that titlebar
height even with that sort of screen real estate to work with, as I typically
have a video full-screen on one monitor and divide the other into a 2x2 window
grid of 1730x1080 px windows with the remainder a gkrelm sysmon. RIP
superkaramba. And 15 vs 30 px off the 1080 height of a single standard
grid-window is still a big deal, even if that 1080 height is ~18 inches
on-screen (with the 15 missing px being a measurable quarter inch!).)

(In reply to Christoph Feck from comment #1)
> Does it help to reduce the button size?

I was using small size, the smallest possible choice, already. My first
hack-patch added a tiny (*1.0) option, which did reduce size some, but not
enough.

So I attacked the padding, and after that I could actually set button size back
to /normal/, actually /increasing/ it from small, without increasing the
titlebar height. (I think it might have increased it 1 px for normal, but I
was OK with that for the full-size button tradeoff, knowing I could always go
back to small if I decided to.

Once the padding was gone, tiny buttons aka *1.0 was /ridiculously/ tiny,
/much/ tinier than either the font or the titlebar (the emblems inside were
about the same size as the font was when I tried 4 pt font, unreadable), so it
wasn't worth it. As I said, even normal was basically titlebar height, with
the existing small below that, so tiny simply wasn't useful.

But while I'm actually running normal button size ATM but with the tiny option
still in the menu as I didn't actually move that patch out of my auto-patch
dir, I'm still throwing in actually removing it from auto-patch as one of the
pre-posting tests, just in case my tiny-button addition had some other effect
and without it the small size is suddenly much bigger or something. Literally
just moved it out for the test when I saw your reply popup in email,
matter-of-fact.

[kwin] [Bug 425856] Kwin FPS inconsistent after kwin is suspended

2020-08-27 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=425856

I think I may have found the cause of this issue. I noticed that if I had an
application open but minimized, simply hovering over the task manager would not
fix the issue. What would fix the issue was unminimizing the window. If all the
application I had open were visible on the desktop when suspending/resuming
kwin, the fps drops would not occur and my fps would stay at a constant 100. If
I suspended/resumed with minimized applications, the issue would occur until
all the applications were unminimized. This led me to believe that the issue
must have been caused by the thumbnails being generated by the compositor. My
"Keep window thumbnails" setting was originally set to "Only for shown windows"
but after switching it to "Always" I was no longer experiencing this issue. I
have tested it with manually suspending/resuming kwin, having an application
block compositing and then closing it and suspending my pc. Issue did not occur
a single time.
