What window placement strategy is KWin using? "Minimal overlapping" or
something else?

> "Allow KDE apps to rememeber ..." + ( "Remember window size" disabled ):
> doesn't store the last position but doesn't create following windows at the

This sounds like the intended behavior, no?

[kde] [Bug 431879] New: Meta+(number) Keybindings change when application is open

2021-01-21 Thread kosantosbik
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=431879

Bug ID: 431879
   Summary: Meta+(number) Keybindings change when application is
open
   Product: kde
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: minor
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: unassigned-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: ahmet.bas...@hotmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 135033
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=135033=edit
Observed result screenshots

SUMMARY

Activate task manager entry keybindings (Meta+<1..0> by default) shift if one
of the programs in the task manager entry list is open. Let's say I don't have
any open windows and have 3 task manager entries: System Settings, Dolphin and
Chromium respectively. When I press Meta+2 Dolphin opens. When I press Meta+2
again Chromium opens instead of creating a new instance of Dolphin or selecting
existing Dolphin windows as active.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Make sure you have at least 3 task manager entries.
2. Use any of Meta+2 shortcut twice.
3.

OBSERVED RESULT

2nd and 3rd programs in the task manager entry list are opened.

EXPECTED RESULT

System either should select the existing window of 2nd program as active or
create new instance of 2nd program.

Linux/KDE Plasma: Arch Linux x86_64

2021-01-21 Thread Nate Graham

--- Comment #21 from Nate Graham  ---
If we have the power to fix an issue but choose not to, the correct status is
INTENTIONAL, not UNMAINTAINED.

So in terms of Bugzilla etiquette and protocol, we have two options:

1. Leave the bug open because it's theoretically possible that someone fixes it
sometime in the next 4 months; if not, close it as RESOLVED FIXED once the old
applet is deleted entirely and replaced with the new one.

2. Close the bug as RESOLVED INTENTIONAL now, and change that to RESOLVED FIXED
once the old applet is deleted entirely and replaced with the new one.

OK, thanks. Something to hopefully consider down the line? Chromebooks are
pretty popular and from what I've seen in the tech world, getting more popular,
especially in education. Krita is a wonderful program, my wife is very
impressed with it after trying everything available. But the latency is sadly
one of the only significant problems we've had with Krita It's obviously a huge
and obvious "issue". Still workable, but when you see "what could have been"...

Well thanks for responding and clarifying. I won't get my hopes up on this one.

That's not correct.

The old applet is still used on X11 for now because the new one was not ready,
and this problem therefore still exists on X11. The old applet can't be
unmaintained because we're shipping it in a release.

[frameworks-kio] [Bug 431877] New: kcoredirlister perhaps should schedule stats of files it doesn't know about

2021-01-21 Thread Harald Sitter
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=431877

Bug ID: 431877
   Summary: kcoredirlister perhaps should schedule stats of files
it doesn't know about
   Product: frameworks-kio
   Version: git master
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: kio-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: sit...@kde.org
CC: kdelibs-b...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
when kcoredirlister gets a FileRenamedWithLocalPath or FilesChanged signal on a
file that doesn't exist in its model it doesn't try to stat the file and
potentially add it to the model leading to the internal model potentially
getting out of sync with the real directory state depending on signal order.

specifically over SMB renaming a file on a windows 10 host always issues a
deletion event before the actual move event. this leads to the original file
getting kicked out of the model and when the actual move event arrives it gets
discard because it is concerning unknown files. at this point I'd expect the
lister to actually schedule a new stat on the (now) unknown files to ascertain
if they exist and what they are and bring them into the model. this
specifically applies to FilesChanged. if a file changes that we don't know
about, clearly we should at least check what's up with that.

bug #430585 has a bit of extra context.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. undo the smb-notifier change related to bug #430585 and restart kded
2. open a SMB dir hosted on a windows 10 machine
3. make file a
4. rename a to A

OBSERVED RESULT
file disappeared from view because the internal model is out of sync with the
reality on disk

EXPECTED RESULT
the file 'A' should exist.
more generally: when dirlister gets a notification that doesn't add up to the
internal state of affairs it should try to reconcile by either reloading
everything or stat the questionable paths

The picture clipboard issue is still there with kwin-git
v5.19.90.r492.ge370fcb21.

When I copy selected text in Vivaldi (XWayland), I can paste it into Firefox
Wayland, as long as I don't close Vivaldi. Once Vivaldi is closed after
copying, I can still paste the text in Dolphin, but not in Firefox Wayland
anymore.

Interesting, can you open the compile_commands.json, go to the line of your
translation unit, and start removing compiler flags until you can't repro ?

I think there's some flag which is the culprit.

Another idea is to test clazy from
https://downloads.kdab.com/clazy/1.8/clazy_v1.8-msvc2019.zip instead of the one
shipped with QtC.

Can Confirm this. beyond it being pointless, it burns my eyes when I am using
my notebook in a dark place with 5% brightness and it suddenly jumps to 30%.

The correct thing to do was a check the current brightness level and just
change it if it is greater that the power saving level.

Obs.: It would be nice as well if there were a percentage meter at the side of
the slider(the one written "Level") on the screen brightness option of the the
power saving configuration.

Problem solving depedencies

SUMMARY
When I install or update a package on OpenSUSE Tumbleweed and there's a
dependency issue, Discover is not able to resolve it and NO updates are
installed. Zypper on the other hand provides options on how to handle the
situation and is able to resolve it.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Discover
2. Install or update a package with dependency issues
3. There's a message that there were problems solving the dependencies.

OBSERVED RESULT
No updates are installed, an error message is shown (see attachment)

EXPECTED RESULT
Discover shows a list of options to solve the dependency issues (like zypper
does) and installs / updates the packages

[Heaptrack] [Bug 431746] Heaptrack hangs indefinitely tracing the rust compiler

2021-01-21 Thread Milian Wolff
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=431746

--- Comment #4 from Milian Wolff  ---
thanks for the report, I can't give you any ETA on when I have the time to look
into this as I'm pretty swamped in the current situation.

could you maybe try to inspect it yourself? Basically you'd have to build
heaptrack from source yourself and then enable logging - that would be my first
step too. Maybe we can see something fishy by looking at the log then.

basically all you need to do is checkout current master, create a build dir,
run `cmake -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=RelWithDebInfo path/to/sources && cmake --build
.`, then see if you can run it:

```
./bin/heaptrack ./tests/manual/test_c
heaptrack output will be written to
"/home/milian/projects/build/heaptrack/heaptrack.test_c.25458.zst"
starting application, this might take some time...
malloc: 0x5614afb04160
heaptrack stats:
allocations:3
leaked allocations: 0
temporary allocations:  0
Heaptrack finished! Now run the following to investigate the data:
  heaptrack --analyze
"/home/milian/projects/build/heaptrack/heaptrack.test_c.25458.zst"
```

then enable logging by editing path/to/heaptrack/src/track/libheaptrack.cpp and
change

constexpr const DebugVerbosity s_debugVerbosity = NoDebugOutput;

to

constexpr const DebugVerbosity s_debugVerbosity = VeryVerboseOutput;

recompile, then run on rustc and pipe the full output into a log file. then
attach the compressed log file here please

thanks

Hello.
For French KDE translations, "Just now" is translated in 2 by "Juste
maintenant".

OK for upgrading the translation of "Just now" by "Àl'instant" in the files
* choqok.po,
* kcoreaddons5_qt.po

Idem for the translation of "%1 minutes ago" modified from "%1 minutes avant"
to "il y a %1 minutes", in amarok.po and kcoreaddons5_qt.po

Changes committed.
Have a nice day.
Regards. Xavier

Reported to QtCreator bugs, but:

This is reproducible outside Qt Creator. E.g. for the project in test.zip, pass
-DCMAKE_EXPORT_COMPILE_COMMANDS to the cmake command line, and then run
clazy-standalone with -p on your file. You will get the same false
positive as in Creator (on macOS at least; this particular example does not
trigger for me on Linux, but I've seen the warning in more complex projects).

newest Plasma version
   Product: Discover
   Version: 5.20.5
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: discover
  Assignee: lei...@leinir.dk
  Reporter: tobi.goerg...@gmail.com
CC: aleix...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Trying to install updates from the system repositories on OpenSUSE Tumbleweed
leads to Discover hanging at about 85%, there are no issues with flatpaks.
The updates are  installed fine.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Discover -> Updates
2. Install updates from system repositories
3. watch Discover hang at about 85%
4. (optional) check via "zypper dup" for updates afterwards after some time ->
no updates available

OBSERVED RESULT
Discover hangs at about 85%, but updates install fine

EXPECTED RESULT
Discover installs packages without hanging at 85%

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS

Bug ID: 431871
   Summary: Updating proprietary Nvidia drivers on OpenSUSE
Tumbleweed requires multiple license agreements
   Product: Discover
   Version: 5.20.5
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: discover
  Assignee: lei...@leinir.dk
  Reporter: tobi.goerg...@gmail.com

  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
When I try to update the nvidia drivers on my OpenSUSE Tumbleweed machine, I
have to agree to the nvidia license 4 times, even though it's always the same
one (though for different components), which makes it also necessary to agree
four times to the changes that are applied due to the update.
When I update my system using "zypper dup" I have to agree just one time to the
license.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install proprietary nvidia drivers
2. Get an update for them
3. Open Discover -> Updates
4. Try to install updates
5. Agree to changed packages
6. Agree to license
5. Agree to changed packages
6. Agree to license
5. Agree to changed packages
6. Agree to license
5. Agree to changed packages
6. Agree to license
7. Updates are just installed after that

OBSERVED RESULT
I have to agree to the same license 4 times before I can update my proprietary
nvidia drivers

EXPECTED RESULT
I have to agree to changed packages and the license just one time before
updates are installed

[systemsettings] [Bug 421329] New Global Shortcuts KCM: shortcuts to launch 3rd-party apps don't work

2021-01-21 Thread Martin B

Martin B  changed:

--- Comment #44 from Martin B  ---
Had the same wrong behavior after a fresh - not further updated - install of
KDE NEON 5.20 german version where I have not even been able to set a shortcut
for a quickstart of an application, not in the menu editor and not in Settings
> shortcuts: I activated the shortcut field but my keyboard input was not
recorded.

After install of all automatic upcoming updates now I have
KDE-Plasma-Version: 5.20.5
KDE-Frameworks-Version: 5.78.0
QT-Version: 5.12.2
Kernel-Version: 5.4.0-58-generic

and the problems are gone.

For Kubuntu 20.04 LTS after a fresh install and after installing all updates
the faulty behavior I had was
- it is possible to setup a shortcut for an application in menu editor
- and in Settings > Shortcuts
- but the application does not start
This error was with all kind of shortcut (Shift-x, Alt-X, Ctrl-x and
kombinations).

I received a hint in Kubuntuforums.net there was the same faulty behavior some
years ago in an older version of Kubuntu and followed the resolve action:
- not a must but best practice: delete all your already setup application
shortcuts
- go to "~/.config/kglobalshortcutsrc" and rename this e.g. to
"~/.config/kglobalshortcutsrc_org"
- reboot the system
- check the file has been recreated
and for me from the on on two differnts notebooks this fixed the problem.

Hope this helps ...

> You can turn off the git plugin in the options, no?

This is a viable workaround, but still inconvenient, as for example using the
'Annotation'/git blame -functionality in KDevelop would be useful.

So disabling Git plugin loses all the functionality.

As of now, the range-loop checks warns about range-based for loops

I propose to split the check in two so these cases can be selected
individually.

2021-01-21 Thread bugzilla_noreply

--- Comment #27 from tempel.jul...@gmail.com ---
Perhaps latency reduction can set itself automatically to a less aggressive
value once direct scanout turns active? So one wouldn't have to switch latency
values for playing games and regular desktop usage.

However, the current latency of "prefer smoother animations" wouldn't be to
great either as a lasting solution, as I wouldn't want to play my competitive
moba game with the increased lag on Wayland vs. Xorg with suspended
compositing. :(

In kcoreaddons fr translation.

I would suggest replacing the translation of "Just Now" currently "Juste

The same way "%1 minutes ago" is translated "%1 minutes avant", I would suggest
replacing it with "Il y a %1 minutes".

suggested to remove the margin in the icon in Kate's repo, I guess that same
icon is also used on macOS, where it should have the margins...
