[kde] [Bug 432830] New: Programs freeze due to excessive number of fonts installed, even on the minimal install

2021-02-11 Thread Dan Dascalescu
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=432830

Bug ID: 432830
   Summary: Programs freeze due to excessive number of fonts
installed, even on the minimal install
   Product: kde
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Kubuntu Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: unassigned-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: ddascalescu+...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

A fresh installation of Kubuntu 20.04, comes with an *astonishing* number of
fonts, even though I chose the "minimal" install, without any office suite.

The vast, vast majority of users will never use more than 10% of these fonts.
All possible far Eastern locales are included, even though a Thai user won't
ever need a Gujarati font, or the other way around. (If they're a graphic
designer and they do, they know where to find fonts.)

Due to this, the font selection dialog is almost unusable. It takes so long to
load in Pinta for example, that I thought the app had crashed. Even after the
popup is displayed, scrolling to any actually useful font is very cumbersome.

Please see the attached screencast.

Localization is nice, but this is way overkill. A given user speaks 2-3
languages at most, not 40.

The installer already asks the user what language they want, but ignore that,
and bloats their system with all the possible language fonts.

Removing these fonts is non-trivial, and there are many threads online on the
topic:

* https://askubuntu.com/questions/820746/remove-unused-fonts
*
https://askubuntu.com/questions/214950/how-can-i-remove-fonts-that-i-never-use-from-libreoffice-and-linux-in-general

* https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=279672
* https://superuser.com/questions/248844/how-do-you-remove-fonts-from-ubuntu

Even very carefully-written solutions to this mess
(https://askubuntu.com/questions/214950/how-can-i-remove-fonts-that-i-never-use-from-libreoffice-and-linux-in-general/878501#878501)
come with the risk of removing useful packages. For example, after I ran `sudo
apt remove fonts-smc-meera fonts-smc-rachana fonts-smc-raghumalayalamsans
fonts-smc-suruma fonts-smc-uroob fonts-taml fonts-telu fonts-telu-extra
fonts-ubuntu fonts-urw-base35 fonts-yrsa-rasa`, I found out that,

> The following packages will be REMOVED:
>  bluez-cups cups cups-filters fonts-mlym fonts-smc fonts-smc-meera
> fonts-smc-rachana fonts-smc-raghumalayalamsans fonts-smc-suruma
> fonts-smc-uroob fonts-taml
>  fonts-telu fonts-telu-extra fonts-ubuntu fonts-urw-base35 fonts-yrsa-rasa
> ghostscript ghostscript-x hplip kubuntu-desktop kubuntu-settings-desktop
> libgs9
>  libgs9-common libspectre1 okular plymouth-label plymouth-theme-kubuntu-logo
> printer-driver-foo2zjs printer-driver-hpcups printer-driver-pnm2ppa

Screenshot of the Audio - System Settings Module

In the "Audio - System Settings Module" dialog, the names of audio devices are
pointlessly truncated, when there's plenty of horizontal space to display them
fully in the combo box.

Due to this I was unable to see the end of the device names, which is the key
information ("HDMI 1/2/3" vs. "Speakers"), until I reized the window to some
ridiculously long width.

turn their heads to the side or are partially covered by others are not

I don't see any errors here (see screenshot), all information is available. It
is normal for Exiv2 to display the type of container, you can also find this in
the face metadata. If you do not see the Country* information, you have set the
filter incorrectly.

[kdenlive] [Bug 425012] Color shifting / image degradation when importing clip or extracting frame

2021-02-11 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=425012

--- Comment #13 from airfullb...@hotmail.com ---
Here is a very simple way to reproduce this bug.

1. Open Kdenlive
2. Add the image input1.png in the project bin
3. Accept the proposed project settings (matching the image size)
4. Add the image to the timeline
3. Export the project as "sequence of png"

I expect the output pngs to be exactly the same as input1.png.

They are not.

I have attached one of the output pngs : output1.png

This color bug is quite annoying. I do a lot of screen recordings and edit them
in Kdenlive, but I am unable to preserve the colors in the output file, no
matter the exported format. How do you edit screen recordings in kdenlive and
preserve color accuracy? Thank you.

While not completely what you want, you can get most of it with existing
functionality. Using payee matching, you can match on any consistent
substring. (In fact, your examples of "*NAME*" are not regular expressions,
which would be ".*NAME.*".) You can also set a default category for new
transactions for each payee. You can match on NAME, for example, and it just
needs to exist anywhere in the field you have chosen to match for the Payee.
Matching and selecting a default Category are available in the Payee view.

Please see if these will work for you, and if not, please provide a more
specific example of what else you want it to do.

[kmymoney] [Bug 432826] New: GREP(payee name from bank) and replace it with a predefined name

2021-02-11 Thread Joachim Vobis
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=432826

Bug ID: 432826
   Summary: GREP(payee name from bank) and replace it with a
predefined name
   Product: kmymoney
   Version: 5.0.0
  Platform: Mint (Ubuntu based)
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: importer
  Assignee: kmymoney-de...@kde.org
  Reporter: yardt...@sonic.net
  Target Milestone: ---

Please add an important time-saver that has been part of Quicken, MSMoney,
AceMoney and other personal finance software for many years.

KMyMoney downloads payee names from checking and credit card accounts including
all the extra crap that the stores or banks include. Examples:

   WAL-MART #2002   GILROY
   MCDONALDS F3707 FOSTER C
   POS Transaction SQ CAFE DES CROI

Here the payee names includes the store numbers, sometimes their locations,
sometimes transaction type (e.g., "POS"), sometimes something else.

Please add a rule to the OFX importer that uses a list of replacements:

   IF PAYEE CONTAINS
   THEN REPLACE PAYEE WITH
   AND USE CATEGORY

This is how I'd use it:

   IF PAYEE IS "*WAL-MART*"
   THEN REPLACE PAYEE WITH "Wal-Mart"
   AND USE CATEGORY ""
   (here I leave the category empty because I want to enter it later,
e.g., clothes or groceries or tools)

   IF PAYEE IS "*MCDONALDS*"
   THEN REPLACE PAYEE WITH "McDonalds"
   AND USE CATEGORY "Leisure:FastFood"

   IF PAYEE IS "*CAFE DES CROI*"
   THEN REPLACE PAYEE WITH "Cafe Des Croissants"
   AND USE CATEGORY "Leisure:Dining"

Basically I want that the OFX importer uses a table that has the regular
expressions in the first column, the replacement text for the payee in the
second, and optionally the desired category in the third.

Thank you in advance!

  Platform: Other
OS: All
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Animation
  Assignee: krita-bugs-n...@kde.org

  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

"Reset all channels" on an Opacity channel may cause a crash.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

1. Set non-animated layer opacity to 30%

2. Create an opacity channel and make it variable, say, from 100% to 0%

3. Select some frame in the middle that the layer opacity becomes something
like 60% (not initial 30%, that is important)

4. Reset opacity channel

5. Bug 2.1: The opacity slider in layer box still shows 60%, but after changing
the current time it flips back to the original 30%

6. Create a few opacity keyframes and remove them

7. Bug 2.2: Try changing opacity using the slider in the layer box, see the
crash

SUMMARY

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Discover
2. In the search box, type "k4dir" because we're looking for "k4dirstat" but
can't remember the full string name.

OBSERVED RESULT

The spinning wheel spins endlessly with the message, "Still looking..."

EXPECTED RESULT

k4dirstat should appear as a match almost immediately.

The only way to get a match is to search exactly for "k4dirstat". Maybe there
should be fuzzier matching to help us.

Screenshot showing the missing translation

SUMMARY
When the reminder popup hosts several entries, the "Dismiss All" button is not
translated to German. It's a small issue, but since I see it almost every day I
decided to eventually open this ticket.

Not really knowing what I'm talking about, I think it's due to the translation
in
https://websvn.kde.org/trunk/l10n-kf5/de/messages/korganizer/korgac.po?revision=1583435=markup,
line 53ff, being marked as fuzzy, which it actually is not. The German
translation is a proper translation of the original phrase. Instead, the
original English wording is slightly fuzzy, but acceptable in my opinion.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Set your desktop environment language to German
2. Create several calendar entries set for the same date+time, all with
reminders activated
3. Let the date+time arrive, so that a reminder popup window is shown
4. Observe the "Dismiss All" button at the bottom of the popup window

Last but not least: Thanks for the great work, everyone!

OBSERVED RESULT
The button shows English text

EXPECTED RESULT
The button shows German text

[Powerdevil] [Bug 432730] powerdevil uses outdated ddcutil protocol

2021-02-11 Thread Carlo
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=432730

--- Comment #2 from Carlo  ---
As far as I am concerned I am interested, but I have zero experience with C++ &
KDE framework and my setup is not up to date with Plasma 5.21
That in combination with the fact that now I have to study for my last uni exam
makes it difficult for me to start anytime soon :/

That said this evening I tried to locate the region of the bug, at least. I
didn't do much, but I understood that powerdevil can actually read and write
the actual screen brightness from libddcutil.
PowerDevilUPowerBackend does what it should, afaik. It even changes display's
brightness through ddcutil according to powersaving settings (e.g. after 5 mins
of inactivity it actually dims the screen).

Nontheless no slider appears in powerdevil's applet. How is that even possibile
that it can read & write the right only needed value, I don't know, it is
probably something I cannot understand with the connect() calls.
I tried to see the API changes of ddcutil 1.0.0
(http://www.ddcutil.com/c_api_100/), but none of those seem to affect KDE's
code...

Finally there is one log I don't understand:
org.kde.powerdevil: Handle button events action could not check for screen
configuration (HandleButtonEvents::checkOutputs@240)

[Sorry, I seem to have sent my comment prematurly. I am finishing it now]

4) I go back into the settings and ask for the scrollbars to be hidden
5) The space key is still working properly.
6) I quit okular and start again
7) The bug is is back: the space key scrolls by one line of text.

Extra information: I have a HiDPI display, and I might have some non-standard
configuration options. For instance, my plasma desktop is scaled by a factor 2
and the server X is started with -dpi 192. I don't know whether this is
relevant or not.

So the bug is still present in okular 20.12, but depends on some configuration
options. In my case, to observe it, okular must be started without any
scrollbar.

I think there's been a mix up between two different issues

a) the fact that Scroll Up/Scroll Down or Space moved the document by about one
line of text instead of nearly the full displayed height

b) the issues about smooth scrolling

The original description of the bug was about problem a), but in the comments
it drifted to problem b), and eventually the bug was marked as resolved and
duplicate of bug 422050. But this is for problem b)!

Problem a) is not fixed, and I am reopening this bug.

My okular was working correctly in Fedora 32 (Version 19.something of okular, I
didn't make note of exact version). I upgraded to Fedora 33 (Version 20.08) and
ran into the problem described here. I then upgraded the okular package from
fedora rawhide (or 34) in the hope the problem was already fixed:

okular-20.12.2-2.fc34.x86_64

But it is not.

The bug seem related to scrollbars. I have set up okular so that scrollbars are
not set. Then:
1) I run okular on some pdf file. No scrollbar, of course, and the bug is
present: pressing the space key moves me down by about one line of text.
2) I go into the settings and I ask for the scrollbars to be displayed
3) The bug no longer shows! Pressing Space scrolls me down by nearly one height
of the displayed text.
4) I go back into the settings

[klipper] [Bug 432819] New: Empty clipboard issue

2021-02-11 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=432819

Bug ID: 432819
   Summary: Empty clipboard issue
   Product: klipper
   Version: 5.20.5
  Platform: Neon Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: momkinghac...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

I had an issue when an empty record would be randomly added to clipboard which
can be seen by the widget in tray, googled about it, found out that you need to
check "prevent empty clipboard" checkbox in the settings of the widget, but it
was already checked, so after suffering for some time I thought that the
checkbox could be mistakenly inverted, so I unchecked it and the issue seems to
be fixed(at least I haven't had any troubles with it so far). So, I think you
need to either rename it to "Allow empty clipboard" or invert the value,
because now it doesn't make sense.

OBSERVED RESULT

checkbox doesn't work as expected

EXPECTED RESULT

checkbox works as expected

Do we really need to redirect stderr to a temporary file and then use grep to
filter out any errors? If possible it would be nicer if we could simply do one
exec and simply drain stderr from the process till it is done and then read
stdout, which is always just one line with the file path. Did you try that?

The issue is with the filesystem itself, since, as you said, it affects all
apps. That's a sign that it's not an issue in Dolphin or even some software
library that supports it. The filesystem of the disk is at a lower level than
even the OS itself.

I'm not an expert in filesystem troubleshooting, so I hope you can find someone
who can help you in a user support channel of some sort.

Closing this again since it's not a bug in Dolphin or any other KDE software.
Good luck!

Ok I tried this and I think this is the answer but it took me an age to find

system settings:notifications:application settings:plasma workspace:warning

few second delay after the title bar is drawn.

So sound seems to be the problem. FWIW "Elisa" also hesitates and stutters when
resuming play (but amarok is seamless).

+   if (VG_(getenv)("DEBUGINFOD_URLS") == NULL

+  return NULL;
+
+   if ((path = ML_(find_executable)("debuginfod-find")) == NULL)
+  return NULL;

It would be nice to move this somewhere so that it only has to be checked ones.
Maybe something like:

static
const HChar* debuginfod_find_path (void)
{
   static const HChar *path = (const HChar*) -1;
   if (path == (const HChar*) -1) {
  if (VG_(getenv)("DEBUGINFOD_URLS") == NULL
  || VG_(strcmp)("", VG_(getenv("DEBUGINFOD_URLS"))) == 0)
 path = NULL;
  else
 path = ML_(find_executable)("debuginfod-find");
   }
   return path;
}

So you can check as

   if ((path = debuginfod_find_path()) == NULL)
  return NULL;

So Nate, what is the issue?

Upon saving a file to any directory, it can be 30+minutes before Dolphin or
Thunderbird or any other software application can see the saved file. Then,
magically, it will appear right where I put it. This has been a characteristic
of Kubuntu since the 16.04 version.

All tools to access the health of this file system indicate no problem,
smartctl indicate no hard drive issues, the OS was installed only 2 weeks ago
after formatting / directory.

If Dolphin and the OS are not the tools indexing the file structure, then what
is(or in this case is not) doing the indexing? :-(

Random comment that isn't really about the actual patch:

+#include "../m_initimg/priv_initimg_pathscan.h"

I see you need this for ML_(find_executable). Maybe this should moved somewhere
else so you don't need to import a priv header from another module. Maybe it
can be moved into coregrind/m_libcproc.c and the files that need it then
include pub_core_libcproc.h ?

  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: kcm_keyboard
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: n...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

This is a library that will parse xkb rules files and is aware of user-supplied
rules in ~/.config/xkb/rules. It's relatively new (see
https://who-t.blogspot.com/2020/07/user-specific-xkb-configuration-part-2.html
and the keyboard KCM doesn't use it yet. As a result, user-created XKB rules in
~/.config/xkb are ignored, and changed need to be made to the distro-provided
files, which is generally a no-no.

GNOME got support for this last year:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-desktop/-/merge_requests/79

This is probably a necessity before we can offer a proper GUI for key
re-mapping, since such a thing would optimally implement the map as an
auto-generated xkb option added to the user's home folder.
