[kde] [Bug 432830] New: Programs freeze due to excessive number of fonts installed, even on the minimal install
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=432830 Bug ID: 432830 Summary: Programs freeze due to excessive number of fonts installed, even on the minimal install Product: kde Version: unspecified Platform: Kubuntu Packages OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: unassigned-b...@kde.org Reporter: ddascalescu+...@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- A fresh installation of Kubuntu 20.04, comes with an *astonishing* number of fonts, even though I chose the "minimal" install, without any office suite. The vast, vast majority of users will never use more than 10% of these fonts. All possible far Eastern locales are included, even though a Thai user won't ever need a Gujarati font, or the other way around. (If they're a graphic designer and they do, they know where to find fonts.) Due to this, the font selection dialog is almost unusable. It takes so long to load in Pinta for example, that I thought the app had crashed. Even after the popup is displayed, scrolling to any actually useful font is very cumbersome. Please see the attached screencast. Localization is nice, but this is way overkill. A given user speaks 2-3 languages at most, not 40. The installer already asks the user what language they want, but ignore that, and bloats their system with all the possible language fonts. Removing these fonts is non-trivial, and there are many threads online on the topic: * https://askubuntu.com/questions/820746/remove-unused-fonts * https://askubuntu.com/questions/214950/how-can-i-remove-fonts-that-i-never-use-from-libreoffice-and-linux-in-general * https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=259109 * https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=297573 * https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=279672 * https://superuser.com/questions/248844/how-do-you-remove-fonts-from-ubuntu Even very carefully-written solutions to this mess (https://askubuntu.com/questions/214950/how-can-i-remove-fonts-that-i-never-use-from-libreoffice-and-linux-in-general/878501#878501) come with the risk of removing useful packages. For example, after I ran `sudo apt remove fonts-smc-meera fonts-smc-rachana fonts-smc-raghumalayalamsans fonts-smc-suruma fonts-smc-uroob fonts-taml fonts-telu fonts-telu-extra fonts-ubuntu fonts-urw-base35 fonts-yrsa-rasa`, I found out that, > The following packages will be REMOVED: > bluez-cups cups cups-filters fonts-mlym fonts-smc fonts-smc-meera > fonts-smc-rachana fonts-smc-raghumalayalamsans fonts-smc-suruma > fonts-smc-uroob fonts-taml > fonts-telu fonts-telu-extra fonts-ubuntu fonts-urw-base35 fonts-yrsa-rasa > ghostscript ghostscript-x hplip kubuntu-desktop kubuntu-settings-desktop > libgs9 > libgs9-common libspectre1 okular plymouth-label plymouth-theme-kubuntu-logo > printer-driver-foo2zjs printer-driver-hpcups printer-driver-pnm2ppa printer-driver-ptouch printer-driver-sag-gdi printer-driver-splix python3-renderpm -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

Product: krita Version: git master Platform: Other OS: All Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: Animation Assignee: krita-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: emmetoneill@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY "Reset all channels" on an Opacity channel may cause a crash. STEPS TO REPRODUCE: 1. Set non-animated layer opacity to 30% 2. Create an opacity channel and make it variable, say, from 100% to 0% 3. Select some frame in the middle that the layer opacity becomes something like 60% (not initial 30%, that is important) 4. Reset opacity channel 5. Bug 2.1: The opacity slider in layer box still shows 60%, but after changing the current time it flips back to the original 30% 6. Create a few opacity keyframes and remove them 7. Bug 2.2: Try changing opacity using the slider in the layer box, see the crash -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

It's a small issue, but since I see it almost every day I decided to eventually open this ticket. Not really knowing what I'm talking about, I think it's due to the translation in https://websvn.kde.org/trunk/l10n-kf5/de/messages/korganizer/korgac.po?revision=1583435=markup, line 53ff, being marked as fuzzy, which it actually is not. The German translation is a proper translation of the original phrase. Instead, the original English wording is slightly fuzzy, but acceptable in my opinion. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Set your desktop environment language to German 2. Create several calendar entries set for the same date+time, all with reminders activated 3. [Powerdevil] [Bug 432730] powerdevil uses outdated ddcutil protocol
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=432730 --- Comment #2 from Carlo --- As far as I am concerned I am interested, but I have zero experience with C++ & KDE framework and my setup is not up to date with Plasma 5.21 That in combination with the fact that now I have to study for my last uni exam makes it difficult for me to start anytime soon :/ That said this evening I tried to locate the region of the bug, at least. I didn't do much, but I understood that powerdevil can actually read and write the actual screen brightness from libddcutil. PowerDevilUPowerBackend does what it should, afaik. It even changes display's brightness through ddcutil according to powersaving settings (e.g. after 5 mins of inactivity it actually dims the screen). Nontheless no slider appears in powerdevil's applet. How is that even possibile that it can read & write the right only needed value, I don't know, it is probably something I cannot understand with the connect() calls. I tried to see the API changes of ddcutil 1.0.0 (http://www.ddcutil.com/c_api_100/), but none of those seem to affect KDE's code... Finally there is one log I don't understand: org.kde.powerdevil: Handle button events action could not check for screen configuration (HandleButtonEvents::checkOutputs@240) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

But this is for problem b)! Problem a) is not fixed, and I am reopening this bug. My okular was working correctly in Fedora 32 (Version 19.something of okular, I didn't make note of exact version). I upgraded to Fedora 33 (Version 20.08) and ran into the problem described here. I then upgraded the okular package from fedora rawhide (or 34) in the hope the problem was already fixed: okular-20.12.2-2.fc34.x86_64 But it is not. The bug seem related to scrollbars. I have set up okular so that scrollbars are not set. Then: 1) I run okular on some pdf file. No scrollbar, of course, and the bug is present: pressing the space key moves me down by about one line of text. 2) I go into the settings and I ask for the scrollbars to be displayed 3) The bug no longer shows! [kde] [Bug 430218] warning dialogues are very slow to appear
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=430218 --- Comment #6 from davidblunkett --- Ok I tried this and I think this is the answer but it took me an age to find the controls that allows me to disable the sounds. system settings:notifications:application settings:plasma workspace:warning message and uncheck the sound. No sound = instant dialogue. Sound = random few second delay after the title bar is drawn. So sound seems to be the problem. FWIW "Elisa" also hesitates and stutters when resuming play (but amarok is seamless). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[valgrind] [Bug 432215] Add debuginfod functionality
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=432215 --- Comment #8 from Mark Wielaard --- + if (VG_(getenv)("DEBUGINFOD_URLS") == NULL + || VG_(strcmp)("", VG_(getenv("DEBUGINFOD_URLS"))) == 0) + return NULL; + + if ((path = ML_(find_executable)("debuginfod-find")) == NULL) + return NULL; It would be nice to move this somewhere so that it only has to be checked ones. Maybe something like: static const HChar* debuginfod_find_path (void) { static const HChar *path = (const HChar*) -1; if (path == (const HChar*) -1) { if (VG_(getenv)("DEBUGINFOD_URLS") == NULL || VG_(strcmp)("", VG_(getenv("DEBUGINFOD_URLS"))) == 0) path = NULL; else path = ML_(find_executable)("debuginfod-find"); } return path; } So you can check as if ((path = debuginfod_find_path()) == NULL) return NULL; -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[dolphin] [Bug 432762] Corrupted Filesystem and Missing Documents Directory
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=432762 martr...@yahoo.com changed: What|Removed |Added Ever confirmed|0 |1 Status|RESOLVED|REOPENED Resolution|NOT A BUG |--- --- Comment #2 from martr...@yahoo.com --- So Nate, what is the issue? Upon saving a file to any directory, it can be 30+minutes before Dolphin or Thunderbird or any other software application can see the saved file. Then, magically, it will appear right where I put it. This has been a characteristic of Kubuntu since the 16.04 version. All tools to access the health of this file system indicate no problem, smartctl indicate no hard drive issues, the OS was installed only 2 weeks ago after formatting / directory. If Dolphin and the OS are not the tools indexing the file structure, then what is(or in this case is not) doing the indexing? :-( -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[valgrind] [Bug 432215] Add debuginfod functionality
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=432215 --- Comment #7 from Mark Wielaard --- The patch includes some changes to tests/vg_regtest.in. I believe they aren't needed anymore because you already submitted them in bug #432672. [valgrind] [Bug 432215] Add debuginfod functionality
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=432215 --- Comment #6 from Mark Wielaard --- Random comment that isn't really about the actual patch: +#include "../m_initimg/priv_initimg_pathscan.h" I see you need this for ML_(find_executable). Maybe this should moved somewhere else so you don't need to import a priv header from another module. Maybe it can be moved into coregrind/m_libcproc.c and the files that need it then include pub_core_libcproc.h ? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[systemsettings] [Bug 432818] New: Use libxkbregistry to parse the rules files
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=432818 Bug ID: 432818 Summary: Use libxkbregistry to parse the rules files Product: systemsettings Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: kcm_keyboard Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org Reporter: n...@kde.org Target Milestone: --- This is a library that will parse xkb rules files and is aware of user-supplied rules in ~/.config/xkb/rules. It's relatively new (see https://who-t.blogspot.com/2020/07/user-specific-xkb-configuration-part-2.html and the keyboard KCM doesn't use it yet. As a result, user-created XKB rules in ~/.config/xkb are ignored, and changed need to be made to the distro-provided files, which is generally a no-no. GNOME got support for this last year: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-desktop/-/merge_requests/79 This is probably a necessity before we can offer a proper GUI for key re-mapping, since such a thing would optimally implement the map as an auto-generated xkb option added to the user's home folder. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
