[Skanlite] [Bug 436200] long wait to locate scanner

2021-04-27 Thread Kåre Särs
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=436200

Thanks for the report.

This time is unfortunately not in the hands of Skanlite (or libksane from KDE).

You can reduce the time significantly by disabling (commenting out) all the
scanner backends that you do not use, in /etc/sane.d/dll.conf

Alternatively you can check the backend/instance name for your specific scanner
and provide that to Skanlite on the command line.

skanlite -d

We could maybe change this into a "wishlist" for adding an option to always try
to open the last active scanner before doing the probe for devices We would
also need to add a UI mechanism for changing scanner after you have started
Skanlite with one scanner.

No, digiKam doesn't write the metadata.

Gimp has the same problem:

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/-/issues/6047

See also bug 434246.
The problem also belongs to Bug 432265.
One solution would be to write with ExifTool and that is exactly what we are
currently working on. But that won't be done before digiKam-7.4.0.

When the background is lighter, the shadow is too black and it looks a bit
"jarring". The shadow having a little opacity would improve this. A attached an

Thanks! After uninstalling 20.12.3 and then install 21.04.0 instead of use the
21.04.0 installer to upgrade, it's able to launch now. It still shows the reset
configuration dialog but after that, the program can run!

I just notice on the download page from kdenlive.org it says "Windows:
Uninstall old version. Then install version 21.04.0.", I probably missed this
notice while I download at the first time. Sorry about that.

I'll change the status to resolve then.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Add 400 clips (~400GiB of data) to project (not on timeline, but just to
project bin)

SUMMARY

Each time I start Firefox I get the window asking to make Firefox my default
browser.
I did not change the default browser, nor I have installed other browsers.

I found out I have a /usr/sbin/firefox that sets the GTK_USE_PORTAL variable.
If I start firefox by using /usr/bin/firefox instead, I have no dialog and
Firefox is happy.

Probably related to bug 402206.

I have the lastest Neon stable with all updates installed as of today.

[systemsettings] [Bug 423571] Desktop Behaviour - Animation speed

Donovan Zimmerman changed:

   What|Removed |Added

 CC||s@zimmedon.com

Which version is this fixed in?

I had the same thing happen to me today with kwin_x11 and was perplexed why
only some animations were affected by the slider [KCM -> Workspace -> Workspace
Behavior -> General Behavior -> Animation speed], whereas others were not. See
examples below.

Animation speed slider affects:
 - Kickstart menu animations
 - Dock/panel animations

Animation speed slider does not affect:
 - Any effect enabled under the [Desktop Effects] KCM

As suggested in other replies, I removed the AnimationDurationFactor=0.25
property-value pair from under the KDE section in ~/.config/kwinrc and the
animation speed slider once affects everything as expected.

Specify download file name in notification and progress tracker

In notifications, there is no way to know which current file is downloading,
the same for progress tracker, it would be great to have file name indicated in
notification and tracker to help user differentiate between them. See attached

[frameworks-syndication] [Bug 436288] New: Wrong indentation in pre-formatted html content (5.78 regression)

2021-04-27 Thread Alexander Miller
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=436288

Bug ID: 436288
Summary: Wrong indentation in pre-formatted html content (5.78
regression)
   Product: frameworks-syndication
   Version: 5.80.0
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: kdepim-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: alex.mil...@gmx.de
  Target Milestone: ---

Since commit 9a54df8b ("Port away from deprecated QXmlInputSource"),
syndication changes the indentation of lines that start with a tag in the html
content of a feed item. That doesn't matter in most places, but it's a problem
where whitespace should be preserved, like in a block or a tag with
style="white-space:pre".

As a result, after upgrading from frameworks 5.77 to 5.80, newly fetched
articles of a feed that regularly uses pre-formatted content with additional
markup are shown with wrongly indented lines in akregator, while old, archived
articles still render correctly. Reverting the commit mentioned above fixes the
problem.

A small made-up example to illustrate the problem:
If an article contains

line 1
line 2
line 3

then several spaces will be added in front of line 2, which is wrong.

The offending commit should be reverted and then the deprecated method may be
replaced with a different solution that doesn't cause regressions.

I'm not sure if I understand what you said, but I didn't add any repositories
to the system, I just activated the sources that came in KDE neon out of the
box. Anyway, how can I solve the problem?

Displayed my normal grub boot menu. Using that im back in KDE neon. Using a

Huh, I didn't realize that KRunner exposed jump list actions like this.

Yeah I guess we could make it say "Check for updates" or something.

It's the [Desktop Action Updates] within org.kde.discover.desktop.cmake.

flatpak: Specify when a source is user-local

A user might have added a repository twice both on the system and the
user deployments. This means that they'll be listed two seemingly equal
repositories and feel the world is melting.
This adds (user) at the end when it's a user-specific installation
(which generally are less common) so that they can be differentiated.

Thank you very much for the helpful hints in diagnosing this.
You are spot on !!
Indeed the device number changes after every reboot.

$ diff stat1.log stat2.log
< Périphérique : 35h/53d Inœud : 24588954Liens : 1
---
> Périphérique : 37h/55d Inœud : 24588954Liens : 1

And there is also a corresponding change in balooshow.

$ diff baloo1.log baloo2.log
< 177329a0035 53 24588954 testfile.txt [/home/test/testfile.txt]
---
> 177329a0037 55 24588954 testfile.txt [/home/test/testfile.txt]

A baloosearch returns the same file twice.
And I do indeed have a bunch of subvols.

Now hopefully somebody who knows the internals of baloo deduplication criteria
might be able to understand where this behaviour is coming from, and confirm
that this is likely a BTRFS-specific problem.

I clicked on the "Software Updates" icon in the tray and if I right click on
the same item I get "Configure Software Updates" so I guess this does not have
to do with Discover. I have been doing it for a while and it has worked
flawlessly so far. I would suspect a package from one of my "external" repos
(Skype, Zoom, Slack) to be the cause. I am fine in putting this on hold until I
can reproduce it again.

FWIW I have worked on the Linux kernel before in KDevelop, and I would highly
recommend excluding the things you don't need from the project. This is
especially most things from arch/, most things drom drivers/ and the fs/
directory. Doing so has no disadvantage whatsoever, and parsing the whole linux
kernel tree and keeping all symbols in memory will be a straining exercise for
whatever IDE you can come up with. ;)

[kdevelop] [Bug 435943] Background parsing threads should run at lower priority

hey there,

I think I tried that in the past - but it was many years ago. I'd welcome any
tests from your side to see if this really helps. I actually doubt that.

I rather think that you are running into some other performance issue. Can you
have a look at whether I/O is saturated on your system maybe? What about memory
consumption? Though 128GB is plenty. It could also quite well be that you are
running into lock content issues - our old code base is not optimal in that
regard (heh, far from it) - and there are still quite some areas where the main
thread will try to lock our BKL, which can be quite desastrous with many
background cores. That said, with the clang-based language backend at least,
the lock contention was reduced massively already, compared to before. Are you
maybe parsing large python projects or php projects?

Just for context: my workstation uses the Ryzen 3900X, also with 12 cores and
"only" 32gb of RAM. I do note a bit of sluggishness while its parsing a big
project from scratch, but it's nowhere near unusable.

My guess is that GDK_SCALE and GDK_DPI_SCALE are "inherited" from the previous

exclusion list added in

Looks like the same as Bug 412219, yeah.

1. Please file a separate bug report for this.

2. You select the default device by clicking on the radio button for that
device. In older Plasma versions, we had a bug button marked "Set as Default"
that could be pressed, but nobody liked it because it took up a lot of space.

3. Seems like we should just fix the bug, or make it always ask. :)

Yes :D try any Freecell variant, it should certainly (unfortunately) crash too.

Those Freecell variants were added with the new KDE applications update 21.04,
that's why I think maybe there is something related.
Before those variants addition, Freecell was running ok.

These are different user interfaces; one is a list view you can add items to,
and the other one is a view of settings. There is nothing to be consistent
with. :) Consistency is achieves when things that look the same behave the same
(and vice) versa), not when everything looks the same even if it behaves
differently.
