2021-12-26 Thread Dominik Haumann

This is by design: settings in the menu are for the file buffer only. If you
want it changed persistent, you need to go into the settings dialog and change
the default Color theme.

Can you confirm?

here's a screenshot of the affected brushes, strokes made with "stabilizer"
mode, sample count 70

SUMMARY
***
The Pencil 2B and Ink Pen brushes in the MyPaint bundle produce noticeable
jagged strokes, which look different depending on the Smoothing mode in use,
most notably using the "Stabilizer" mode even at the lowest "Sample Count"
values.
This seems to happen regardless of Input device, giving the same result with
tablet or mouse.
This seems to happen with the default brush settings of said presets.

NOTE: If you are reporting a crash, please try to attach a backtrace with debug
symbols.
See
https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports
***

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Select Pencil 2b (mypaint) or Ink Pen (mypaint) brush
2. Select Stabilizer smoothing mode with a minimum to medium Sample Count value
3. Try making round shapes like spirals or circles, using swift motions

OBSERVED RESULT
Resulting strokes look jagged and polygonal

EXPECTED RESULT
Smooth strokes like every other brush does under the same circumstances

[plasmashell] [Bug 447561] New: Always show window titles (when combining windows into a single button is disabled)

2021-12-26 Thread Grósz Dániel
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=447561

Bug ID: 447561
Summary: Always show window titles (when combining windows into
a single button is disabled)
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.23.4
  Platform: openSUSE RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
Component: Task Manager and Icons-Only Task Manager
  Assignee: h...@kde.org
  Reporter: groszdaniel...@gmail.com
CC: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: 1.0

For several years, the Task Bar only shows the icons of the applications once
the items get narrower than some threshold, I presume for aesthetic reasons. (I
mean the normal Task Bar, not the Icons Only one of course).

I think I've realized why this doesn't bother most people: I guess most people
the option to group windows, and combine them into a single button, enabled;
since they can tell the application by the icon, there is no harm in hiding the
title. However, I've always disabled window grouping/combining, so that I can
get to any window with one click. And even one letter can help disambiguate
windows of the same application.

You could add an option whether to show the icon only when taskbar items get
narrow. However, the above suggests another option that avoids cluttering the
settings with another check box: always show the beginning of window titles
(however little there is space for) when the "Combine into single button"
option is disabled, but retain the current behavior when it's enabled. The
current behavior is probably fine for those who enable that option, while those
who disable it would likely to prefer to see the first letter or two of the
title than to just see identical icons.

[Discover] [Bug 443555] Discover takes up to ~5 minutes to fetch updates due to flatpak backend

2021-12-26 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=443555

--- Comment #26 from guimarcalsi...@gmail.com ---
I installed Neon Unstable on a Virtual Machine and here are the results:

At first, it didn't want to load the apps with an appstream error (sorry, I
don't remember it).

Then I tried making Flatpak the default source. Upon restarting Discover it
would prompt me to add Flathub. Pressing the button did nothing to me.

Then I went into Discover's settings, removed FlatHub, and re-added it.

Now, at least on a VM, it's working perfectly. It takes no time to load the
Flatpak list, it's instant!

While I was writing this, I re-installed the same Neon image to see if I could
find what that appstream error was, but for some reason now the experience was
different. It gave me this error after a while trying to load Flatpaks for the
first time (this error is different than the first one): "Error deploying
appstream: Error moving file
/var/lib/flatpak/appstream/flathub/x86_64/.1cbe9f93f6ab5938f2d7523e2db1b7107348e55eb8dc583308dc39123ccd943-W284E1:
File exists"

Then I restarted Discover and everything was working as intended. If someone
else faces the same issue I can try making a new bug report, but what matters
is that this bug seems to be fixed. When 5.24 stable hits I'll check again if
everything is okay.

I can also reprat this issue. I first discoverd it when a user complained she
coud not access a file I created on an NFS4 share.

I don't see this issue if I use fish:// to access any directory, local or
remote.

We are on fully updated fedora 34 and 35 systems, and this has been a problem
for quite awhile, through many Fedora updates, possibly as far back as fedora
18 (arbitrary number). Unti now I've usually just run chmod -R g+w on the
share on the file server, then went about my business. I have put it off too
long and so did a bit of investigation.

This happens on both Konqueror and Dolphin. It never happens in Konsole.
Meaning that if I open Konsole and cd to /fs1/work (the nfs share), and create
a file or directory, the permissions are set to 664 and 2775 (SGID is set for
all directories) as expected with a umask of 002 for all users. Note that the
umask on both servers and clients are set to 002.

So only Dolphin and Konqueror ignore the umask=0002 setting, and only when not
accessing a file system via fish.

I would like to have a plugin? feature? that would turn the while screen in
monochromatic red like Stellarium does for night mode:

https://lcom.static.linuxfound.org/images/stories/figure-3-stellarium.png

The idea is that red light does not interfere so much with night vision, which
is good for looking at starry nights (specially when using the computer to
drive nice time lapses or long exposures :)

This is NOT dark mode (https://store.kde.org/p/1013059).

Hi,
I did try to do some recordings last year. I actually installed OBS Studio for
that. But following Murphy’s law, it did rarely occur during recordings. I
experienced the issue less frequently in the recent past. But I think it
happened once not too long ago, but I can’t be sure whether that was already
with 7.4. I will keep my eyes open.

[kwin] [Bug 447556] New: Some wayland native games in KDE 5.23.4 crash instantly on startup

2021-12-26 Thread p d
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=447556

Bug ID: 447556
Summary: Some wayland native games in KDE 5.23.4 crash
instantly on startup
   Product: kwin
   Version: 5.23.4
  Platform: Other
OS: Other
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: wayland-generic
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: pizzad...@linuxmail.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
***
NOTE: If you are reporting a crash, please try to attach a backtrace with debug
symbols.
See
https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports
***

This is a continuation of https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=444962 , in KDE
5.23.4 using Intel HD Graphics 620 on Wayland, some wayland native games like
Xonotic flatpak crash instantly on startup. Disabling the wayland socket via
flatseal solves the issue. I ran the flatpak with --socket=wayland to reproduce
the issue, because I already disabled the wayland socket to workaround the
issue. The xonotic flatpak ships with wayland enabled.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Be on Intel HD Graphics and use KDE 5.23.4 wayland session
2. Install Xonotic from flathub and make sure wayland support is enabled in
flatseal
3. The game will crash instantly upon launch

This happens with other wayland native games such as SuperTuxKart on flathub.

The behavior was different in previous KDE versions. In KDE 5.23.3, they
launched, but the windows were invisible. In KDE 5.23.2, they launched in the
corner of the screen.

OBSERVED RESULT

Wayland native games (not using xwayland) crash instantly on startup

EXPECTED RESULT

For them to work.

I liked the reflections too. Is there a way to test this rewrite without having
to compile the whole Kwin? I‘m curious about how elegant the animations work.
The smooth transitions were a key feature of the old effect.

The new Stack View introduced with 7.4.0 allow to show file name on the right
of item thumbnail.

Stack View is an alternative to thumb-bar, with a contents which can be
bookmarked and reloaded later. Items can be listed from different folders .

Thumb-bar contents follow item selection from Stack-View.

You can discover more details about this feature in 7.4.0 release announcement:

   Product: kmail2
   Version: 5.16.3
  Platform: Gentoo Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: message list
  Assignee: kdepim-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: bugs.kde@e3q.eu

SUMMARY
When clicking the junk mail icon cycles strangely through various junk/nonjunk
states

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Use a message list theme like ‘smart with clickable icons’
2. Click the junk mail icon
3. Click the junk mail icon [Repeat multiple times to cycle]

OBSERVED RESULT
The icon changes strangely (or not) between junk/nonjunk/neither

In akonadiconsole, I can follow the flag changes associated to the clicks (>):

(neither) [softened icon] > $notjunk [notjunk icon] > $notjunk,$JUNK [either
icon can apparently come up] > $notjunk,$JUNK,$NOTJUNK [either icon can
apparently come up] > (neither) [softened icon]

(I am not sure whether this sequence is deterministic.)

EXPECTED RESULT
The icon changes (cycles) in some clear way

[kmail2] [Bug 359111] Message list shows sender name instead of receiver name

The smart theme uses a ‘sender’ field that is actually a ‘sender or receiver’
field, where the choice depends on the folder type. It is unclear to me
actually how to determine the folder type. Anyway, to solve it, go to

View > Message List > Theme > Configure…

Then clone the smart theme; give the cloned theme a nice name; in the cloned
theme definition's Appearance tab, drag the ‘Sender’ out into the list of
fields above (it is actually the sender/receiver) and then drag the real
‘Sender’ in its place (right click to get the option to soften).

So in some sense, this bug report is not really about a bug, but about a
potentially confusing feature. You can choose to close it or leave it open, but
then perhaps change the title to reflect the actual issue (confusing nature/bad
discoverability).

This indeed still an issue with current versions (I'm using 21.08.3/5.08.3, but
this is not in the selectable list) and actually it similarly affects the
important status.

* (Twice?) clicking the unread/read icon removes a present attachment icon;
this corresponds to removing the $ATTACHMENT flag
* Marking an unread important message as read by clicking the icon removes the
important status; this corresponds to removing the \FLAGGED flag

I'm increasing the importance, because given that the importance status is,
unlike the attachment state, purely user-assigned, this causes data loss.

Seems a reasonable suggestion to add shortcuts for devices with no PrtSc key.

In the interim, in case you don't know: you can add these yourself via System

Adding the tag works, but filtering by them doesn't.

SUMMARY
When adding tags to an image they don't "register" in the program. The image
itself gets the tags added, but gwenview doesn't allow me to filter images by
tag, and the drop downs for selecting tags are empty.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open image in gwenview.
2. On the Information tab of the side panel, next to "Tags:" click the "Edit"
link.
3. Type in the name of the tag (e.g. "test"), click the "+" button, and close
the dialog.
4. Click on the "Browse" button to display all images in the current folder.
5. Click on "Add Filter" and select "Filter by Tag".
6. In the filter, select "Tagged".

OBSERVED RESULT
Notice that no tags are available to be selected in the dropdown, and typing in
the tag name doesn't do anything.

EXPECTED RESULT
The dropdown would offer available tags that were created previously to be
selected and filtered by, and they would be searchable by typing.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Windows: N/A
macOS: N/A
Linux/KDE Plasma: Linux 5.15.11-1-MANJARO / KDE Plasma 5.23.4
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.23.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.89.0
Qt Version: 5.15.2

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Tags added through gwenview can be seen by dolphin.
Adding tags from dolphin has the same behavior.
After some time the tags went away, possibly due to software updates.
Other filtering types work.

[akregator] [Bug 447552] New: Changes to medium font size are not kept once Configure dialog is closed

2021-12-26 Thread Brendon Higgins
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=447552

Bug ID: 447552
Summary: Changes to medium font size are not kept once
Configure dialog is closed
   Product: akregator
   Version: 5.18.1
  Platform: Debian testing
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: internal browser
  Assignee: kdepim-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: bren...@quantumfurball.net
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Akregator has trouble keeping the user-specified medium font size applied, and
tends to reset it to the default size. It also misreports the medium font size
in the Configure dialog when this has happened, showing the user's value and
not the value actually being used.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Configure Akregator -> Appearance
2. Set Medium font size to something, e.g. 13pt.
3. Click Apply. Notice text in the article pane does get larger.
4. Click OK. Notice text in the article pane goes back to the original (10pt)
size.
5. Configure Akregator -> Appearance
6. Notice that Medium font size still says "13pt".
7. Restart Akregator.
8. Configure Akregator -> Appearance
9. Notice that Medium font size now says "10pt" - "13pt" was forgotten.

OBSERVED RESULT
Something causes the user-specified size to be reset to the default 10pt, as
observed on the article pane. The Configure dialog isn't updated to reflect
this.

EXPECTED RESULT
The user-specified font size is kept.

I hope I understand you correctly, in the New Album Dialog, I think the
selection of images is being ignored. Since the album date is set to the newest
when moving and scanning, you should only edit the date after moving.

Hi Maik, thank you for your feedback.
On my side, the bug i report is just at Album creation step (from a selection
of pictures). At that creation stage, an Album date can be decided (Oldest
Average Newest) but none of the 3 are consistent to the picture(s) i've
selected.

In principle, if you don't add any more images to the album, you can set the

There was a patch here from an external developer. The album date is set to the
newest date of a image in the album. We also had bug reports on this request.
He sorted the albums by date so that the sorting is correct after adding new
images to the albums. I was also a bit critical of this patch. We may need to
make it configurable.

Well, look the bash script used internally of AppImage bundle :

https://invent.kde.org/graphics/digikam/-/blob/master/project/bundles/appimage/data/AppRun#L119

It load listed shared libraries using this function before to start digiKam

You can try to tune this script on your system easily. Extract all AppImage
