What's needed is a way of saying to the mount, "use a given minor device
number" and I've not seen that described anywhere.

It has been requested and apparently oft' discussed:

and

[Powerdevil] [Bug 450551] New: Battery charge limit is not preserved after reboot

2022-02-18 Thread Matej Mrenica
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=450551

Bug ID: 450551
Summary: Battery charge limit is not preserved after reboot
   Product: Powerdevil
   Version: 5.24.1
  Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: matejm98m...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
ASUS laptop, battery charge limit can be set and battery stops charging when
the limit is reached (or when battery is 1-2% under the limit).
The issue is that on every reboot the configured charge limit is reset to 100%.
TLP also allows to configure a battery charge limit and this one is working as
expected. (I am not running tlp at this moment, nor anything else that chages
this setting)

More info about setting battery charge limit on ASUS devices:

Patch committed to fix the issue

commit 193ced6bb34a49b5b41756b2c8616e392295328c
Author: Carl Love
Date: Tue Feb 8 17:52:33 2022 -0600

Powerpc: Update ACC support to reflect being mapped over vsr registers

The ISA 3.1 implemention provides the effect of ACC and VSRs
logically containing the same data.Future versions of the
hardware may define new state or redefine the backing state
of the registers.

This reworks the code to support the ACC as implemented as a logical
mapping over the VSR registers, and lays groundwork for a future
implementation utilizing a separate register file. There
is a single boolean variable, ACC_mapped_on_VSR, that can be set in
disInstr_PPC_WRK(), based on the ISA being used, to select which
implementation model to use.

[valgrind] [Bug 450536] Powerpc: valgrind throws 'facility scv unavailable exception'

2022-02-18 Thread Carl Love
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=450536

Patch committed

commit 7f11271403219d21c46e3b831cc1709336e792f1 (HEAD -> master, origin/master,
origin/HEAD)
Author: Carl Love
Date: Fri Feb 11 14:07:20 2022 -0600

Powerpc: Fix checking for scv support, add check to scv instruction
parsing.

The check for the scv instruction in coregrind/m_machine.c issues an scv
instruction and uses sigill to determine if the instruction is supported.
Issuing scv on systems that don't support scv, i.e. scv support is not in
HWCAPS2, generates a message in dmesg "Facility 'SCV' unavailable (12),
exception".

This patch removes the sigill based scv instruction test from
coregrind/m_machine.c. The scv support is now determined by reading the
HWCAPS2 in setup_client_stack().  VG_(machine_ppc64_set_scv_support) is
called to set the flag ppc_scv_supported in struct VexArchInfo.

The allow_scv flag is added in disInstr_PPC_WRK. The allow_scv flag is
used to ensure the host has support for scv before generating the iops for
the scv instruction.

On Android (and probably other systems), when boosting volume above a certain
level for the first time, a warning displays along the lines of "Listening at
high volumes for extended periods of time will cause permanent hearing damage".

I propose that a similar warning be added to to KDE's audio settings.

I got some more information about this from people on Reddit having the same
issue - it seems to work fine on other compositors. Making matters weirder, one
of them sent me their edid (retrieved via the /sys interface) and KWin's code
does parse it correctly.

Can you attach your edid as well, to check whether or not it's the same for
you?
To get the edid you first search for paths with "find /sys | grep -i edid"
(ignore the "permission denied" bits). Some of these paths should be of the
format of "[...]/drm/card0/card0-[...]/edid". Then you can copy the path that
should be relevant for your monitor and do "cat path > edid.bin" to extract the
file

Yes, plasma-workspace. I tried another user account, and things were working
properly with it, so it's not a system thing.
I found that there is something in ~/.config that is causing this.
Starting with an empty .config directory got everything working again.

The horizontal separator line comes from line.svg and is used in separating
notifications as well. The clipboard uses the separator from listitem.svg. In
my case, menus should have a black frame, thus my line.svg is close to
background color. The separators for text content should be text color.

The notification separator should use something other than the separator for
panels and plasmoids (e.g. listitem's separator).

However, I cannot know where the vertical separator line comes from without
reading the code. The horizontal line updates with line.svg, but the vertical
appears not to.

[plasmashell] [Bug 450545] New: feature request: task manager has option to show tasks from other desktops

2022-02-18 Thread Jack Montgomery
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=450545

Bug ID: 450545
Summary: feature request: task manager has option to show tasks
from other desktops
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: master
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
Component: Task Manager and Icons-Only Task Manager
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: jack.monty@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: 1.0

Hi,
The current task manager configuration allows for the following options under
'Show only tasks:'
- From current screen
- From current desktop
- From current activity
- That are minimized

In addition to the 'From current desktop' option, would it be possible to have
an option to display windows on other desktops too? For example, 'From other
desktops'?

The specific use case I am thinking of is having two task managers running: the
first displays windows from the current desktop; and the second from other
desktops. This allows for the separation of tasks and correct selection based
on the focused desktop.

Please let me know of any additional questions or how I can assist with the
change.

Thanks,

Jack

2022-02-18 Thread Marc M.

I have deduced that there is no additional entry in ~/.xsession-errors when
this happens, because it happened again and this log file still looks the same.
The kwin log gets new entries sometimes though.

SUMMARY
***
the screen is not inhibited when playing content, in this case it is about
online radios (Accuradio). This despite having the system configured to turn
off the screen in 3 minutes
***

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. I open the Accuradio online radio service
2. I leave the content playing without doing any activity on the computer
3. Screen is not inhibited even though more than 3 minutes have elapsed

OBSERVED RESULT

When I play content on some online radio service (in my case, Accuradio), the
screen remains on and active despite having the system configured to turn it
off in 3 minutes, if it remains in idle status

EXPECTED RESULT

That when playing content from online radios, the screen is suspended or turned
off if there is no activity or input events after 3 minutes.

[kscreenlocker] [Bug 450542] New: Black screen after unplugging external monitors when laptop screen is disabled

2022-02-18 Thread Simon B

Bug ID: 450542
Summary: Black screen after unplugging external monitors when
laptop screen is disabled
   Product: kscreenlocker
   Version: 5.24.1
  Platform: Kubuntu Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: greeter
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: sbutcher+b...@gmail.com
CC: bhus...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

Removing the external displays (via thunderbolt dock) while the screenlocker is
active results in a black screen on the laptop

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Attach laptop to dock and use external monitors ONLY (laptop screen
disabled)
2. Lock screen (e.g. with super key+L)
3. Detach usb c dock cable

OBSERVED RESULT
Screen is black except for mouse cursor, cannot access desktop or screenlocker

EXPECTED RESULT
Expect to see the screenlocker password prompt with wallpaper background

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma:
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.24.1
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.91.0
Qt Version: 5.15.2
Graphics platform: X11 , Intel TigerLake-LP GT2 [Iris Xe Graphics]
Distro: kubuntu 21.10 with backports PPA

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Other bugs seem to relate to compositing, and are fixable by switching
ctrl-alt-f2 and back again to ctrl-alt-f1. However, this is not the same bug.

My current workaround is : hit ctrl-alt-f2 and type "ps -ef | grep
kscreenlocker_greet" then kill the PID of the process.
Hit ctrl-alt-f1 and the screenlocker password prompt appears as expected.
I can reproduce this at will.

[okular] [Bug 435379] Does not show TSA timestamp signature

2022-02-18 Thread Swyter
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=435379

Swyter changed:

   What|Removed |Added

 CC||swyterz...@gmail.com

This is important because without attaching a timestamp countersignature the
document's signature will expire when the original certificate does, and it
will still uphold the validity of the document if the certificate gets revoked
down the line/after the fact.

It is also required for some official documents in the European Union. The fact
that on Linux there is no Acrobat Reader and there is only two programs able to
actually cryptographically-sign PDFs (Okular and jsignpdf). Only jsignpdf
supports setting TSA default servers while signing, and once signed there is no
visibility. So we still depend on Windows software to see if it actually
worked.

So yeah, I'd add two needed improvements here (1) being able to choose and use
TSA servers in Okular, and (2) being able to view countersignatures and show
the validity of the combination of both (in green) like Adobe Reader does via
top bar.

I don't doubt that the problem originally stems from KWin and that's why I have
opened a bug report against that, but the thing is that, as I wrote, the
problem is not there with Plasma panels. I know this because I have tested it
multiple times. It simply does not happen if I quit Latte and I have panels on
all screens, just like I have Latte docks on all screens.

[korganizer] [Bug 450541] New: [event summary] The value associated to the "Calendar :" field is prefixed arbitrarily.

2022-02-18 Thread Guillaume Lang

Bug ID: 450541
Summary: [event summary] The value associated to the "Calendar
:" field is prefixed arbitrarily.
   Product: korganizer
   Version: 5.19.1
  Platform: openSUSE RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: minor
  Priority: NOR
 Component: otherviews
  Assignee: kdepim-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: guillaume.l...@illoc.net
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
In the event summary in the main window, the calendar name is always
automatically altered. If the calendar is named "foo", the summary displays
"Calendar: My foo", i.e., the calendar name is prefixed with "My".
(see for instance https://cdn.kde.org/screenshots/korganizer/korganizer.png)
=> This is forced on the user.
=> This brings no readability improvement, and easily breaks (for instance if
naming a calendar after one's child).
=> It is even worse in languages where there is a pronominal distinction
between singular and plural or between genders. For instance in French ("My" =>
"Mon / Ma / Mes") and German ("My" => "Mein / Meine"). That is borderline
unreadable.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create any event in the "foo" calendar.
2. Select it.

OBSERVED RESULT
"Calendar: My foo"

EXPECTED RESULT
"Calendar: foo"

become squashed when I attach another screen (e.g. I connect my laptop to the
docking station) or when I wake it up from suspension, up to the point where
there's only the titlebar visible. I pinned this down to Latte as disabling it
makes the issue disappear.

This may be linked to bug 442524 as the behaviour is similar, just in a
different context.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Suspend the computer when there are more than one screen
2. Wake the computer
OR
1. Connect a new screen

OBSERVED RESULT
The open windows are squashed to a very small size.

EXPECTED RESULT
The open windows do not change their size.

[plasmashell] [Bug 450538] New: Hiding taskbar labels for chosen windows (tabs) only - doesn't work since 2018

2022-02-18 Thread bat
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=450538

Bug ID: 450538
Summary: Hiding taskbar labels for chosen windows (tabs) only -
doesn't work since 2018
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.24.0
  Platform: Kubuntu Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: major
  Priority: NOR
Component: Task Manager and Icons-Only Task Manager
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: bat...@o2.pl
  Target Milestone: 1.0

Created attachment 146926
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=146926=edit
How it works and how it should work

SUMMARY
Task Manager displays all windows ALWAYS with their labels (unless the taskbar
is full).
Icons-Only Task Manager displays all windows ALWAYS without their labels.

There is no option in either one to display or hide labels for the windows the
user wants to.

* The problem is impaired productivity: *
- Having many browser windows open (web developers and even normal web users
tend to have many open browser windows with many tabs), to achieve maximum
productivity, labels must be displayed (so Icons-Only Task Manager is not an
option), and grouping disabled (it is useless if you care about productivity),
- Same problem as above when opening multiple LibreOffice documents - for
maximum productivity grouping should be disabled and labels enabled, so user
can quickly switch to the other document just by its name,
- Taskbar space quickly cramps up and the labels are not shown anymore, so
users have to wait for the tooltips and see the labels there. It is an enormous
waste of time during everyday work with KDE Plasma,
- There are other programs open that use only one window, like instant
messengers (Skype etc.), IDEs (kDevelop, NetBeans, Qt Creator and so on), Email
clients etc. Those don't need a label at all, as users can easily and instantly
identify them by an icon; while having multiple browser windows open, users
can't determine which window contains the websites set they are looking for,
without the labels. This is especially useful since browsers started letting
users name the windows (change the labels in taskbar). This is not only a
multi-window browser scenario, but also true for working with multiple folders
in Dolphin, where real file managing requires having all the folders visible at
once - tabs in Dolphin simply aren't near as productive, because you can only
see one folder at once.
- There are many other scenarios, where taskbar space becomes wasted by
launching many applications having only one window.

* This was already suggested and developed back in 2018 and 2019! How is that
possible, those commits have not got released: *
https://phabricator.kde.org/D12462
https://phabricator.kde.org/D12463

There is an unnecessary discussion in above links, but the problem is super
simple:
1. Pinning windows/tasks to the taskbar should have nothing to do with the
option to hide or show labels. Taskbar is not a browser and even browsers are
missing a feature to display the title on a pinned tab.
2. Having two widgets - Task Manager and Icons-Only Task Manager makes no
sense. There should be just one widget with a global feature flag in
configuration window like "Show labels", exactly like in Windows 10.
3. If you want to keep those widgets separetely - no problem, but NONE of them
has the functionality that Windows 10 taskbar has from years.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Set panel widget to Task Manager (with labels)
2. Open Task Manager configuration and disable grouping (useless feature if you
care about productivity, anyway),
3. Open many windows of one application (like Dolphin, Firefox, or multiple
LibreOffice documents),
4. Open programs having just 1 window (instant messengers, IDE, Email client),
5. Right-click any window, go to "More actions" and look for "Hide label" or
"Display icon only" option.

OBSERVED RESULT
1. Labels of important windows (browser windows, opened LibreOffice documents,
Dolphin windows) are narrowed very quickly, then become not readable and
finally become hidden, because of lacking space on the taskbar, that is taken
up by one-window applications, where just an icon would be enough.
2. There is no "Hide label" or "Display icon only" option in "More actions".
3. There is no such option in configuration window.

EXPECTED RESULT
1. Like suggested in 2018 and 2019, there should be an option in "More actions"
for each window/task to hide or show label. This should be saved into config
and reloaded next time the task is launched.
2. For maximum productivity, those commits from 2018/2019 should have been
added to Plasma long time ago. This is the only thing in the Plasma taskbar
that users miss from switching from Windows.

Can you test putting "KWIN_DRM_USE_MODIFIERS=1" into /etc/environment, and
launching the session again after a reboot? Just to make sure that KWin doesn't
mis-detect the driver.

Please enable debug logging and upload a log from when you log in and KWin
fails to enable the outputs correctly. Then we can see if it's KWins fault, if
KScreen is acting up or if something else is wrong.

You can enable logging by putting
QT_LOGGING_RULES="kwin_*.debug=true"
into /etc/environment and rebooting.

You can get the resulting log with "grep kwin_wayland_drm
~/.local/share/sddm/wayland-session.log", or if you're using the systemd
session with "journalctl --boot 0 | grep kwin_wayland_drm"
