[kdeconnect] [Bug 441830] 12 TCP keepalive packets per minute is excessive, battery drain hazard.
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=441830 --- Comment #7 from Maxim Egorushkin --- Battery power is a limited resource but 5-second keepalive frequency expends it at high rate without consideration. The user may know best how much battery power they would be willing to expend for the immediacy of disconnect detection, or how much disconnect detection delay they can tolerate. And that may depend on the intended usage in the near future, or the network, or connection type, or particular device, etc.. Making this setting user configurable from both the desktop app and the mobile app would be the ideal solution - a win-win for users and developers. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

I tried to record > this but the mouse appeared normal in the recording. I don't see this in any of the programs I use. In the video you posted, it looks almost like it's unsure where the mouse is supposed to be, as it jitters back and forth a lot (doesn't just change cursors). Perhaps VS Code is literally painting its own mouse cursor, like some games do? Alternatively, it might just be an nVidia driver bug, as you said you're using an nVidia card earlier. Also, I would have posted this sooner, but today I've been oddly lucky and have had fewer instances of this bug. Had to wait all day to confirm for sure that this doesn't happen to me. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[plasmashell] [Bug 457821] New: Blurry or Missing icons in Plasmashell upon icon theme change or app installation/removal.
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=457821 Bug ID: 457821 Summary: Blurry or Missing icons in Plasmashell upon icon theme change or app installation/removal. Product: plasmashell Version: 5.25.4 Platform: openSUSE RPMs OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org Reporter: lemuelsimo...@protonmail.com CC: k...@davidedmundson.co.uk Target Milestone: 1.0 SUMMARY As the title reads, some icons throughout Plasma tend to be rendered blurry or missing entirely. This tends to happen when an application is installed/removed/updated or if the icon theme changes. Applying new accent colors via the wallpaper sometimes trigger this too (this is also considered a 'theme change'). The only way to rectify the problem is to manually restart plasmashell with "kquitapp5 plasmashell && kstart5 plasmashell > /dev/null 2>&1 || kstart5 plasmashell > /dev/null 2>&1", afterwards all icons show normally...until another application gets updated. I am using the Breeze Dark and "Redmond Dark with Square Highlights" by Paul Mc Auley, which inherits the Breeze Dark icons anyway. It is also reproducible with any other icon-theme I've tried. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Start Plasma. 2. Change the icon theme in System Settings. 3. Open the Application Launcher (Kickoff) and find entries with missing icons scattered around. OBSERVED RESULT As the title reads, some icons throughout Plasma tend to be rendered blurry or missing entirely. EXPECTED RESULT All application icons show normally in Plasma's widgets and application menu (that's a widget...) The 'Battery and Brightness' widget has blurry icons in its notifications too. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[plasmashell] [Bug 457779] Kde Plasmashell Crashes Sometimes Unrecoverable by Reboot Even
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=457779 --- Comment #2 from nssz4...@anonaddy.me --- I know how to use my OS just fine, kde is a GUI and is meant to make linux easier, maybe you guys need to learn how to make better documentation that gives step by step instructions, since Im only grabbing logs? For example the debuginfod documents say: "For packages in the official repositories that support it [1], debug information can be retrieved directly over HTTP with debuginfod." So this isnt the main debug program, this program needs another program to function? Why is your KDE wiki https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Debugging only giving me debuginfod as the program needed since debuginfod doesnt even seem like the main program, the arch wiki says: "When looking at debug messages, such as by using gdb on a core dump: " What is gdp? Is it pertainable to what you guys need for me to get a backtrace? how do I use that program combined with debuginfod, cant your wiki explain what debuginfod is, why Im using it, what other programs are needed? You just pasted a wiki and a program with no explanation on how its pertainable to this situation. "Debuggers like gdb can download them automatically." Once again Is gdp what I use for crash debugging plasmashell? GDBs web page says it "allows you to see what is going on `inside' another program while it executes -- or what another program was doing at the moment it crashed." Well that sounds what I need yet its not on your wiki? Im not going through the trouble of looking up how to use that if I dont know that is what I need for kde backtraces specifially. The KDE wiki didnt refer me to gdp only debuginfod. "If one wants to retrieve the debug symbols for zstd, along with some source files, one can utilize debuginfod-find:" I dont know what debug symbols are or zstd because Im not a pro at debugging, seems like that info isn't pertainable? This is an example of how all this is hard to sift through a wiki and what is pertainable for just basic backtrace grabbing? All you need are logs? Why does this have to be so complex? Its not good to intimidate people who are trying to learn more about something by saying, well its not right for you. I want how to get you debug info and thats all I want to have to look up, the info provided only says details to those who already know whats going on, which means its poorly written, Wikis are known to be a rabbit hole of looking up one thing after another and all you need are logs from me? In any case Im sorry for ranting and Im not blaming you specifically for the documentation or even KDE because it may be partly due to Archs wiki but it all seems out of context, all you need are logs from users, so where are the simple step by step instructions, instructions that say get this program, get that program, do this and that, and there you have the logs. In any case the "coredumpctl --reverse list plasmashell" says: TIME PID UID GID SIG COREFILE EXE SIZE Thu 2022-08-11 16:03:57 EDT 7672 1000 1000 SIGSEGV present /usr/bin/plasmashell 61.8M Thu 2022-08-11 12:14:26 EDT 111726 1000 1000 SIGSEGV present /usr/bin/plasmashell 60.8M Tue 2022-08-09 12:31:15 EDT 50043 1000 1000 SIGSEGV missing /usr/bin/plasmashell n/a Mon 2022-08-08 21:48:50 EDT 25938 1000 1000 SIGSEGV missing /usr/bin/plasmashell n/a Sun 2022-08-07 12:25:54 EDT 113652 1000 1000 SIGSEGV missing /usr/bin/plasmashell n/a Sat 2022-08-06 20:19:24 EDT 63653 1000 1000 SIGSEGV missing /usr/bin/plasmashell n/a Sat 2022-08-06 16:00:51 EDT 1323 1000 1000 SIGSEGV missing /usr/bin/plasmashell n/a Sat 2022-08-06 10:29:42 EDT 26168 1000 1000 SIGSEGV missing /usr/bin/plasmashell n/a Fri 2022-08-05 10:17:17 EDT 19812 1000 1000 SIGSEGV missing /usr/bin/plasmashell n/a Thu 2022-08-04 23:12:59 EDT 17712 1000 1000 SIGSEGV missing /usr/bin/plasmashell n/a Thu 2022-08-04 22:45:08 EDT 1317 1000 1000 SIGSEGV missing /usr/bin/plasmashell n/a Thu 2022-08-04 07:17:01 EDT 1339 1000 1000 SIGSEGV missing /usr/bin/plasmashell n/a Thu 2022-08-04 06:40:17 EDT 11541 1000 1000 SIGSEGV missing /usr/bin/plasmashell n/a Wed 2022-08-03 22:36:31 EDT 9208 1000 1000 SIGSEGV missing /usr/bin/plasmashell n/a Sun 2022-07-31 23:47:06 EDT 218562 1000 1000 SIGSEGV missing /usr/bin/plasmashell n/a Sun 2022-07-31 06:06:49 EDT 144625 1000 1000 SIGSEGV missing /usr/bin/plasmashell n/a Wed 2022-07-27 16:04:33 EDT 53387 1000 1000 SIGSEGV missing /usr/bin/plasmashell n/a Wed 2022-07-27 14:49:30 EDT 43952 1000 1000 SIGSEGV missing /usr/bin/plasmashell n/a Wed 2022-07-27 12:43:49 EDT 34287 1000 1000 SIGSEGV missing /usr/bin/plasmashell n/a Tue 2022-07-26 20:48:41 EDT 9187 1000 1000 SIGSEGV missing /usr/bin/plasmashell n/a Tue 2022-07-26 19:17:30 EDT 9317 1000 1000 SIGSEGV missing /usr/bin/plasmashell n/a Mon 2022-07-25 01:11:49 EDT 486414 1000 1000 SIGSEGV missing

Sometimes try using the stylus button to function as an eraser. The stylus button will take a long time to switch to an eraser brush, if it does. 3. Zoom in and out often on the canvas with touch input using two fingers to pinch and pull. Then try drawing on the canvas often after zooming in or out. OBSERVED RESULT The canvas eventually will not show any new drawing strokes. It will also not zoom in or out visibly on the canvas. It will show that the zoom percentage is changing in the black popup, but nothing will happen to the canvas. The menu and dockers will still respond as normal. If a new file is opened, the canvas will still not display changes. Only after restarting Krita, will the canvas function normally again for a time. EXPECTED RESULT The canvas will continue to display new drawing strokes for as long as you use Krita without having to restart the program. The canvas will visibly zoom in and out using a two finger pinch and pull touch gensture for as long as Krita is used without needing to restart the program. [kwin] [Bug 457817] New: window preview quality is very low due to cheap / fast scaling algorithm
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=457817 Bug ID: 457817 Summary: window preview quality is very low due to cheap / fast scaling algorithm Product: kwin Version: 5.24.4 Platform: Archlinux Packages OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: adam.m.fontenot+...@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- Created attachment 151292 --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=151292=edit screenshot of the problem and proposed resolution Everywhere a window preview is shown (e.g. in present-windows, in the window previews of Plasma's icons-only task manager, etc), it is low quality - meaning "pixelated" looking, with strong color fringing around text (when sub-pixel anti-aliasing is enabled for font rendering on the system). I am assuming that different tools utilizing window previews under KWin rely on the same scaling code, since the issue is the same in each case, so I'm reporting this as a general bug. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Make sure the compositor's scale method is set to "accurate" instead of smooth - just in case it might have an effect. 2. Open a bunch of windows and then activate the "present windows" effect. (Opening a bunch of windows will make the resulting preview size smaller, which will make the problem easier to see on high resolution screens.) OBSERVED RESULT Quality is poor (see attached screenshot). Strong color fringing around text is probably caused by using a nearest neighbor / point algorithm to rescale the window preview. EXPECTED RESULT Quality is acceptable (see attached screenshot). For the sample shown in the screenshot, I captured the window at full resolution and used a (still very cheap and fast) bilinear filter to create a preview of the same size as the one created by KWin. Window rescaling is probably GPU accelerated anyway (?) so I don't think using a slightly more expensive algorithm like bilinear should be a problem. If it might be on some systems, perhaps a setting to enable or disable it could be added. [Elisa] [Bug 418605] Improve handling of network-based music collection
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=418605 --- Comment #8 from Jacob Kauffmann --- I would argue this is a bug report and not a feature request if #457782 is a duplicate of this. Configuration should not be getting changed out from under me, whether the folder is reachable or not. I also don't see how this is specific to network-based locations at all. I mount via SSHFS, which is a FUSE filesystem and shouldn't need handling any differently from other FUSE filesystems. Additionally, I can replicate this with a USB external hard drive (simply configuring a folder on the drive and then launching with the drive unplugged.) One other thing, I see "importing ### tracks" every time I launch Elisa even with only the default ~/Music folder configured. So #457782 was not a duplicate of what was initially being described here, and what was initially being described here also had nothing to do with networking. Nate, would we be able to re-open and un-mark #457782 as duplicate, and rename #418605 to be more specific about re-scanning on every startup (and remove the network reference)? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

They explicitly don't want you getting user-facing apps from the packaging repos as they are unsupported in Neon. Neon officially recommends only getting apps from the containerized app sources such as Flathub and the Snap store. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[kate] [Bug 457810] New: Smarter "pipe to terminal" action
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=457810 Bug ID: 457810 Summary: Smarter "pipe to terminal" action Product: kate Version: unspecified Platform: unspecified OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: wishlist Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: kwrite-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: m.mahmoud...@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- ## Summary At the moment the "pipe to terminal" behaves very primitively, and I'm suggesting a more advanced and modern way of working. ## Current behavior At the moment, if a text is selected, it would be sent to the terminal. I no text was selected, it will send the whole content of the file. This is somewhat equivalent of `eval-region` and `eval-buffer` in Emacs, except it sends the strings to the terminal blindly and with a universal warning regardless of the state of the terminal. ## Proposal ### Context awareness The only usage of sending anything to terminal/console is for interpretative languages that has some sort of REPL. For compiling languages this feature is totally useless. For this reason, it would be nice that Kate is context aware and shows warning if terminal is not in a REPL mode. ### Smarter sending When scripting in any interpretative language, there are three type of running a user would like to do: 1. sending the selection 2. sending the current line or block 3. sending the whole file The first type is very obvious, if a text was selected, only and only send that string. But if no text was not selected, send the line or block. Deciding if to send a line or block is actually very simple as it is already in Kate. If the current line is foldable (i.e in the gutter near the line number it has the triangle to fold it), run the whole block, if not, run the line. As for the third type, usually a different key binding is used in all text editors and IDEs I have seen. ### Step forward usually when someone is running a script line-by-line (or block-by-block), they want to run it, and move the cursor to the end of the next non-empty line to be able to run that. In many IDEs and editors, there are two keybindings, one that steps forward, and one that keeps the cursor at where it was. I personally almost never used/needed the latter and I have exclusively used the former. I will be happy to elaborate more if something in your opinion is missing or if the picture I'm trying to paint here is vague and unclear. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=453847 --- Comment #3 from thalia.adkins.cov...@gmail.com --- Hello Halla Rempt, Attached is a screen recording showing the issue. As shown in the recording, when "Save New Brush Preset" was clicked, the window locked. Pressing the button in the upper-left corner to close did nothing, and the scratchpad function was not working. Luckily, due to a recent update, clicking away from the current window and hitting the Escape key on my keyboard now unlocks the window. I can then close out and continue working without having to reset the program. The brush does not save, however. Please let me know if there is a way to fix this, I hope the screen recording helps. Committed on 12/08/2022 at 17:34. Pushed by ngraham into branch 'Plasma/5.25'. applets/weather: Make desktop widget big enough to fit Configure button If we don't set Layout.minimum{width, height} properties on the FullRepresentation, it will default to something tiny and the Configure… button shown on first launch will overflow. Set it to a sane size, and also take into account the final layout once content later gets added so it isn't too small once configured. Whole laptop - that is frozen screen, can't move my mouse and only > thing that works is a sound from a video (youtube video for instance) but > screen is a still frame. I always have to force the laptop to shutdown via > the power button. So it is definitely an issue with power-profiles-daemon. I cannot replicate any of these system crashes/freezes since I uninstalled that package. Closing this issue. I am going to open an issue on ppd gitlab. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
