[kdenlive] [Bug 459684] New: Transcode options hard to understand in clip import
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=459684 Bug ID: 459684 Summary: Transcode options hard to understand in clip import Classification: Applications Product: kdenlive Version: 22.08.1 Platform: macOS (DMG) OS: macOS Status: REPORTED Severity: minor Priority: NOR Component: User Interface Assignee: j...@kdenlive.org Reporter: j...@sydney.dialix.com.au Target Milestone: --- Created attachment 152427 --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=152427=edit kdenlive import transcode options SUMMARY *** I love kdenlive, and I am so grateful to the developers giving their time, but I find the transcode options hard to understand. (This is when I click Project and select Add Clip or Folder). STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Take a video on a mobile phone that saves it with variable frame rate. Copy the clip to the computer. 2. Start kdenlive, click Project and select Add Clip or Folder. The Transcode dialog pops up, because we can't edit clips with variable frame rate. 3. Open the drop-down list of transcode Options. OBSERVED RESULT The first 3 options are easy to understand, but the last 4 I found confusing: 1. Lossy x264 I frame only 2. Lossy x264 I frame only (NVidia GPU Video only) 3. Lossy x264 I frame only (NVidia GPU) 4. Lossy x264 I frame only (Video only) I looked in the documentation for help, but couldn't find any. I hope someone can find time to provide help there. The "I frame only" looked like a vertical bar separating the option into two parts. I didn't want to get only frames -- I wanted to get the audio as well. I asked for help in the Forum (https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=265=176125=458018#p458018), and @bartoloni pointed me to a description of "i-frame" compression. I can now see that this refers to "i-frames only", not B-frames or P-frames. Here are some ways I could misunderstand these options: 1. Lossy x264 I frame only # ie. video frames only, no audio 2. Lossy x264 I frame only (NVidia GPU Video only) # Only videos made on a machine with an NVideo GPU or for processing only on a machine with an NVidia GPU 3. Lossy x264 I frame only (NVidia GPU) # Only videos made on a machine with an NVideo GPU or for processing only on a machine with an NVidia GPU 4. Lossy x264 I frame only (Video only) Since all 4 options only support "i-frame" compression, could we leave that bit out, and have a note in the dialog that kdenlive wants to make the new x264 video with "i-frame" compression, not "B-frame" nor "P-frame". Then there would be less to read in each option. If the NVidia GPU refers to the machine on which the editing will be done, could there be a checkbox for that instead of two options containing "NVidia GPU"? (It is easier to put an explanatory comment beside a checkbox than in an option in a drop-down list.) Similarly, if the GPU option refers to the machine on which the video we are importing was made, again I think a checkbox would be better. (But how would the user know what machine the clip was made on?) Finally, if "Video only" means that the transcode should drop the audio, I think it would be easier to understand if there were a checkbox labelled "Remove audio from output". DESIRED RESULT Taking a few guesses at what these options actually mean, I would find something like this easier to understand: = The following clips are not usable for editing. This will transcode them in an edit-friendly format and replace the original ones in your project. Note: the "x264" options will produce compressed files for us to edit, with some loss of video quality, using "i-frame" compression. (B-frame and P-frame are not available. For more information, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_compression_picture_types) [ ] The transcoded video will be processed on a machine with an NVidia GPU (if that's what the option means :-) [ ] Output video only, not audio AAC (output audio only) Intermediate DNxHR HQ (Large files) Lossless (Huge files) Lossy x264 compressed video (Small files) = SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Windows: macOS: Big Sur (11.7) Linux/KDE Plasma: (available in About System) KDE Plasma Version: KDE Frameworks Version: 5.97.0 Qt Version: 5.15.5 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

Upon waking from screen powersaving, Firefox is now half off the right side of the screen. Another powersave/wakeup immediately afterwards resulted in my displays being misconfigured. [systemsettings] [Bug 459680] New: Sidebar animation stutter that can magically be resolved by clicking into "Appearance"
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=459680 Bug ID: 459680 Summary: Sidebar animation stutter that can magically be resolved by clicking into "Appearance" Classification: Applications Product: systemsettings Version: 5.25.90 Platform: Archlinux OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: kcm_lookandfeel Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org Reporter: chengyua...@protonmail.com Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY (This is actually not a kcm_lookandfeel bug, rather kcm_lookandfeel is the only module that works properly) On X11 with a 165Hz monitor and Nvidia, the sidebar animation when a sidebar item is clicked stutters as if rendered on a much lower framerate. Interestingly, the animation into Global Themes is exceptionally smooth and after clicking into Global Themes and exiting, all such animations become butter smooth -- as if some magic flag has been set globally. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Launch systemsettings. 2. Click into categories other than 'Appearance,' observe how the animation stutters. 3. Click into Appearance (then Global Theme, which is automatically selected). 4. Now click into whatever categories you like, the animation becomes butter smooth. EXPECTED RESULT The animations should be smooth in the first place. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux: Arch Linux KDE Plasma Version: 5.25.90 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.98.0 Qt Version: 5.15.6 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION I initially thought it was a problem with the render loop and tried launch systemsettings by QSG_RENDER_LOOP=threaded systemsettings but turns out it didn't work. Almost all animations in Plasma runs smoothly at 165Hz on my machine . The one reported here and the GNOME-like overview animation are two exceptions. Both appears to be at 60Hz initially. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[kdenlive] [Bug 450964] double subtitle showing in render
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=450964 --- Comment #3 from Bhante Subhuti --- I was able to use the latest appimage. I could not reproduce this. It seems from what I can remember.. I never manually added an srt file because I was making new videos and just clicking play. However, I was using vlc. I cannot reproduce this anymore. I dropped down to 20.04 from 22.04 due to being fed up with 22.04 and I have someone else editing the videos now. The subs is a new feature so standard repo will not have it. So I no longer have the same system. If you are a dev.. it would be good if the subs could have a transparent selectable background color, like in this video (time stamp given). https://youtu.be/BjmsRF_d4jg?t=89 When I was editing myself and not able to use subs .. I was making title cards . However, I had to manually make line breaks which took too much time. I just did a small mkv screen record test. My other real videos on my system are too long to bother. Leave this open.. I'll try to use an mp4 file made from my phone later today or tomorrow. I do some development, so I know some issues. Your time was appreciated. Kdenlive is the only stable free video editor for linux. I'm not sure why they even bother releasing these buggy useless other video editors.. They look nice though. Perhaps a Flutter KdenLive could be made one day? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[systemsettings] [Bug 340982] No way to change just the date format but not its actual translated text
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=340982 --- Comment #230 from Borden --- (In reply to brenbarn from comment #218) > It sounds like what you're saying is, "if we fix it in KDE, it will be > broken in non-KDE apps". But if we don't fix it in KDE, then it will be > broken for all apps, including KDE and non-KDE apps. I would rather have it > work the way I want at least some of the time than none of the time. To say > it's "not fair to the user" to have it work some of the time and not all of > the time seems a bit disingenuous. It's also not fair to the user to have > it work none of the time. +1 . We can either have a 60% that'll be good enough most users soon, or a 100% solution never, and it seems that some people are saying "Let's wait for the impossible to not happen." (In reply to Jeremy/starcraft.man from comment #8) > Nobody wants > to see their clocks or currency or decimals in a format other than what they > expect. Some countries even have multiple standards due to regional/language > differences... Canada's got its own Wikipedia page on it! > http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Date_and_time_notation_in_Canada In addition to the fact that POSIX has invented and enforced standards that don't exist in countries, it's even worse for people like me who want to use their own standards. I set my dictionaries to UK because I use the King's English. I use UK date formats because they're cleaner than North American formats, but, unlike Europe, I start my week on a Sunday as the Abrahamic God intended. My functional and reporting currency is CAD $, not GBP. There is no POSIX standard that will ever accommodate me because of how I mix and match formats. Furthermore, over 20% of people living in Canada were not born in Canada, which means that they are probably used to using other formats that aren't "Canadian" (which, I said earlier, isn't even defined). To say nothing of any Canadian born before 1960 who grew up in school learning Imperial weights and measures instead of Metric. Point is, even if KDE somehow managed to 'fix' the POSIX standard, it still wouldn't work for most people! -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[kdeconnect] [Bug 459678] New: Bidirectional synchronization between Kontact and an Android Smartphone
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=459678 Bug ID: 459678 Summary: Bidirectional synchronization between Kontact and an Android Smartphone Classification: Applications Product: kdeconnect Version: 22.08.1 Platform: OpenSUSE OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: wishlist Priority: NOR Component: common Assignee: albertv...@gmail.com Reporter: klaus-dieter.fie...@bluewin.ch Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY *** Bidirectional synchronization between Kontact and an Android Smartphone or any of the targeted operating systems *** WISHLIST It is a pity that currently only a one-way synchronization from a smartphone to KDE is offered. Kontact, one of the KDE flagships, should synchronize from and to 1. KAddressbook 2. KOrgnanizer 3. KNotes This is an everyday requirement for most of us. I hope this is at least a near future target. OBSERVED RESULT I have set Contacts plugin to synchronize contacts between the desktop and the connected device. KDE Connect creates the directory: Home/.local/share/kpeoplevcard/kdeconnect.../ on the desktop machine containing one .vcf file for each of my contacts on the mobile phone. KAddressbook cannot handle these files. (Probably, because they were not created by Akonadi. EXPECTED RESULT For the contacts part, I would expect a new addressbook with all transferred contacts. Synchronization should be possible with calendar entries as well. The same for KNotes and a note-taking app on the phone would be very much appreciated. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS **1. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=340982 --- Comment #229 from Maxim Egorushkin --- Thinking more about date format customisation, another option could be a file or a few in .config directory, e.g.: .config/date-format/default .config/date-format/file .config/date-format/clock .config/date-format/calendar Each file would contain a sole strftime format string, or gnu date format string, whatever works best. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=459160 --- Comment #14 from maison --- Then wow can we log and debug this? The ones that were in the first screen shot I showed were the ones that were downloaded before upgrading. If I remove the old content of that folder, as I mentioned, then I get a black grid instead of a map. [konqueror] [Bug 459673] Error -272 184 064 / 2 020 314 368 unknow
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=459673 Stefano Crocco changed: What|Removed |Added CC||stefano.cro...@alice.it --- Comment #1 from Stefano Crocco --- Do you have this error when starting Konqueror from the quick launcher in the task bar? Does it happen if you start it from KRunner (Alt+F2) or from terminal? If you only have it when using the quick launcher, then it's a known issue. The reason is that the taskbar entry is wrong: it points to the kfmclient_html.desktop file instead of konqbrowser.desktop. I think that, unfortunately, this is Plasma issue rather than one of Konqueror itself. I don't know how the taskbar decides which buttons to add, so I can't fix it. I tried to contact the Plasma developers about this issue in the past, but with no results. As a workaround, you can go to /usr/share/applications using a graphical file manager and drag the file konqbrowser.desktop to the quicklaunch area in the task bar, just besides the broken one: even if the icons are the same, you can recognize the new one because it has a tool tip. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[frameworks-kio] [Bug 459408] DesktopExecParser fails to find terminal if TerminalApplication has multiple arguments

DesktopExecParser: Fix parsing of TerminalApplication when it contains args We can only use QStandardPaths::findExecutable with the program and not the arguments. [frameworks-kglobalaccel] [Bug 420493] Events fire only on key-press instead of on key-release, impossible to blank screen on keypress.
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=420493 --- Comment #5 from owl-from-hogva...@protonmail.com --- POSSIBLE IMPLEMENTATION P_BUFFER - buffer of pressed keys S_BUFFER - buffer of suspended keys 1. Accumulate pressed keys in P_BUFFER 1.1 on keypress event add pressed key to P_BUFFER (works same for all buttons, so we would be able to start shortcut from any shortcut's keys) 2. on keyrelease event of any key contained in P_BUFFER, fire shortcut with all keys currently in P_BUFFER, including one that was released just before (that is because we won't delete it from P_BUFFER just after the key was released, but will wait for shortcut to fire and only then remove) Note: other (still pressed) keys are moved to suspending buffer S_BUFFER. That means that when other keys will be released they won't cause any undesired shortcuts. BUT when any new key is pressed, already pressed keys (i.e. contained in S_BUFFER) will be moved back to P_BUFFER. Key will be REMOVED (and not moved) from suspending buffer ONLY when released EXAMPLE Lets imagine that we have next shortcuts defined: ctrl + shift - switch keyboard layout ctrl + shift + t - open new terminal instance ctrl + shift + d - show desktop And user acts like this: "wants to show desktop and open terminal" 1. press "shift" 2. press "ctrl" 3. press "d" and release it (ctrl + shift are still pressed) 4. press "t" and release ctrl, shift, t in order 5. press ctrl, shift to switch keyboard layout 6. releases shift What happens according to the algorithm: 1. shift is added to P_BUFFER 2. ctrl is added to P_BUFFER 3. d is added to P_BUFFER 4. release event for "d" received 5. shortcut "show desktop" is fired 6. content of P_BUFFER is moved to S_BUFFER (i.e. ctrl, shift, d) 7. system detects that "d" is no longer pressed and removes it from S_BUFFER (so the content of S_BUFFER becomes "ctrl, shift") 8. press event for "t" received 9. ctrl, shift are moved back to P_BUFFER 10. "t" is added to P_BUFFER 11. "ctrl" release event received 12. open new terminal instance shortcut fired 13. content of P_BUFFER is moved to S_BUFFER (i.e. ctrl, shift, t) 14. system detects that "ctrl" is no longer pressed and removes it from S_BUFFER (so the content of S_BUFFER becomes "shift, t") 15. receives release events for "shift, t" 16. removes "shift, t" from S_BUFFER so it becomes empty 17. receives press events for "ctrl" and "shift" 18. adds them to the P_BUFFER 19. receives release event for "shift" 20. fire "switch keyboard layout" shortcut -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
