[digikam] [Bug 471058] Tags not shown for all items after export-import

2023-06-14 Thread Maik Qualmann
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=471058

Maik Qualmann changed:

Sidecar reading on computer B is enabled? The desired tags and labels are in
the video files Sidecar? The problem can also arise with different advanced
Metadata settings. In digiKam-8.0.0 you can export the advanced metadata
settings from computer A and import them back to computer B.

A quick test here shows no problems. A sidecar as a sample from a video file
where you miss tags or labels would be good.

Git commit c1165fba5dd7cf1e4b3e339051969717f766 by Nate Graham.
Committed on 15/06/2023 at 05:12.
Pushed by ngraham into branch 'master'.

Surface Digitally Sign action more obviously in hamburger menu

This is an important feature of Okular, but when using the
KHamburgerMenu UX, it's quite buried in the More... section. Let's
move it up to the top level of the menu.

Thank you for the bug report!

However Plasma 5.24.4 is no longer eligible for support or maintenance from
KDE; supported versions are 5.27, and 5.27 or newer. Please upgrade to a
supported version as soon as your distribution makes it available to you.
Plasma is a fast-moving project, and bugs in one version are often fixed in the
next one.

If you need support for Plasma 5.24.4, please contact your distribution, who
bears the responsibility of providing support for older releases that are no
longer supported by KDE.

If you can reproduce the issue after upgrading to a supported version, feel
free to re-open this bug report.

*Hello Jean-Baptiste,*

The bug mentioned below appears again. But only on one particular clip.
Have already twice copied the entire content into a new project. While
the affected part is fixed, the bug appears at another place. It's
maddening.

And quickly copy the entire content with "Ctrl A" into a new project
does not work anymore (Bug 471053
).

[plasmashell] [Bug 471055] New: Feature Request: Option to disable category change on hover. (require click)

2023-06-14 Thread jake gaisser
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=471055

Bug ID: 471055
Summary: Feature Request: Option to disable category change on
hover. (require click)
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: master
  Platform: Archlinux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Application Launcher (Kickoff)
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: jakegais...@gmail.com
CC: mikel5...@gmail.com, noaha...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: 1.0

When you open the application launcher, if your mouse happens to hover over
another category then the listed icons change to that category.

99% of the time I am launching things from my favorites section, but sometimes
when I open the application launcher I accidentally hover over a category, so I
have to switch back to favorites or just double tap the super key to close and
reopen the menu.

I used to use a widget called Simple Menu: https://store.kde.org/p/1169537/

It had an option that disabled category switch on hover, you had to actually
click on a category in order to change the category. I loved this, it was
perfect!

I stopped using simple menu for a few reasons:
1. anytime I installed a new application, the favorites menu would become empty
until I clicked into a category then back to favorites.
2. it was not resizeable. (application launcher is if you hold down the super
key then use the right mouse button to drag)
3. application launcher now has a favorites section that looks so similar to
the simple menu.

[kwin] [Bug 471054] New: running into a hard coded limit in workspace_wrapper.h

2023-06-14 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=471054

Bug ID: 471054
Summary: running into a hard coded limit in workspace_wrapper.h
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Debian testing
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: scripting
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: o1bigte...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

Running a system with LOTS of resources (64 GB of ram for one).
Complicating things is that I run 4 - 1920x1080 and 1 - 4k monitor.
I've found that using virtual desktops is a great way of separating projects
and functions.
Have slowly worked my way up to a total of 46 virtual desktops (Easy to find
space when the panel at the bottom of the desktop is on a 4k monitor!)

Finding that when I use more graphically intense packages - - - FreeCAD being
one, that my system uptime disintegrates.

I find the problem when I return to my system and activate the monitors (from a
sleep mode). When all my pages are piled on top of each other and the panel at
the bottom of the monitor (desktopswitcher from lxqt-panel) has disappeared
well then I need to go to another system, ssh into my main box and reboot.
(After reboot it takes about 1/2 hour to setup all the packages that I have
running on my system when I want them to be.)
In digging into the source code there is a hard limit listed - - - lines 49 to
52 in workspace_wrapper.h .
I have been looking to find where that limit is actually programmed in but I
can't find it.

Apologies to the developers but I don't see where this is a 'useful' limit.
I suppose if one insists on using function keys then the limit makes sense but
when one is using a desktop switching panel an arbitrary limit seems quite - -
- unnecessary - - - at least in my opinion.

If someone were to point out where that hard coding actually resides I would
like to try changing that upper limit to something like 50 -- - - for my system
here - - - and would be very interested in reporting any resultants from such
change.

Please and TIA

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. system with lxqt and using desktop switcher from lxqt-panel
2. set up 40 desktops
3. run with packages and stuff on most of the desktops
4. I get perhaps 10 days before the graphics system barfs.

OBSERVED RESULT
lxqt-panel no longer works
all packages and windows are piled on one virtual desktop
reboot clears the mess

EXPECTED RESULT

[xdg-desktop-portal-kde] [Bug 471048] Color scheme detection does not allow the user to manually set if they want external applications to use dark mode or not.

--- Comment #2 from alexandermoen...@gmail.com ---
(In reply to Nate Graham from comment #1)
> Can you expand a bit on this to help us understand why this is a problem and

Sure, at least to me, the background color value in the color scheme selected
by the user and the value reported to other programs seem like they should be
two separate values. Because other programs determine what color scheme they
use from the theme files instead of a separate setting, they are effectively
determining what the user wants in one case from what they want in another. I
think that an implementation similar to that of the gtk desktop portal is
better for the user here, as it reads a separate value from gsettings that can
be manually set by the user if needed. Because in both cases the resulting
value for the users preferred color scheme is emitted from the desktop portal,
the only equivalent solution would be to implement a similar "manual override"
in the KDE desktop portal.

[xdg-desktop-portal-kde] [Bug 471048] New: Color scheme detection does not allow the user to manually set if they want external applications to use dark mode or not.

2023-06-14 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=471048

Bug ID: 471048
Summary: Color scheme detection does not allow the user to
manually set if they want external applications to use
dark mode or not.
Classification: Plasma
   Product: xdg-desktop-portal-kde
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: alexandermoen...@gmail.com
CC: aleix...@kde.org, jgrul...@redhat.com, n...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

Because reading the user's preferred color scheme uses the background color of
their theme, it does not allow the user to directly set if they want other
applications to use light or dark themes. This is especially a major issue
because chromium based browsers now only allow websites to detect the system
theme through the xdg portal, so users can not use a light theme for desktop
programs, but use a dark theme with websites for example. An override value of
some sort would be especially useful. This is not a bug per-say, but would be a
very good feature to have.

Git commit 5368861d8752adffd69f30f3f589f43654a73cf2 by Nate Graham, on behalf

Pushed by ngraham into branch 'master'.

Improve responsiveness of kickoff sidebar view and fix bug 462271

Description of the problem:
Sometimes a `HoverEnter` is sent without `HoverMove`, so the hovered element is
not selected in `onPositionChanged`. Instead, we should use `onEntered` again
and ignore `HoverEnter` events during the time when scrolling or navigating
with the keyboard. Previously, this approach did not work because the
`hoverEnabled` property caused `HoverEnter` to be resent after the timers
expired, which is wrong for the keyboard navigation.

When the cursor is currently contained in the kickoff menu and the user starts
typing, the cursor will select the search item it is currently hovering over.
This is a consequence of using `onEntered` instead of `onPositionChanged`. The
question is if this is undesired behavior and should be considered as a bug. If
this is the case, any typing action should prevent the `currentIndex` to
change.

This is a list of bugs I checked against to not introduce any regressions:
 - Triangle menu idle-hover reset doesn't work in kickoff (BUG 438950)
 - Mouse hover selection in search result persists across kickoff openings (BUG
454349)
 - Item not immediately select-able if cursor hovered over the item before
opening Kickoff (BUG 456993)
 - Unmoving cursor continually reselects the menu item it's hovering over (BUG
455674)

Additionally, I ensured that the following things do not happen:
 - When scrolling and the cursor is contained in the category list, the
selected categories should not be selected during scrolling.
 - When the menu is currently closed and opened with the meta key and the
cursor is now hovering a category, do not select it and also do not select it
when the cursor is moved in direction of the contentArea (so the user can
directly select the favorites).

I have no touchscreen, so it would be good if someone that has one could test
this patch.

This merge request depends on merge request
https://invent.kde.org/plasma/plasma-workspace/-/merge_requests/2462 for
plasma-workspace and they should be merged together.

https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports
***

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. There is an existing symlink in home directory to a network file share via
Autofs that is not mounted at the time Dolphin opens (e.g. ~/Music links to
/mnt/server/Music where a remote NTFS server is normally mounted at
/mnt/server, but not currently available).

OBSERVED RESULT

Dolphin hangs when opening with the Home directory.

EXPECTED RESULT

Dolphin should elegantly ignore symlinks to remote folders which are not
available.

Ok, so two things are going on here.
1. The KCM is failing to save, for an unknown reason
2. The code to show an error message in this circumstance is broken, since
https://invent.kde.org/plasma/sddm-kcm/-/commit/d6d13d382b4b7d4b452c890004f639b6eea20670
where a variable was renamed in only 2 out of 3 places.

I'll fix #2 right now. You can fix it yourself on your system by changing
"message" to "untranslatedMessage" in line 31 of main.qml. Then you can try
saving again and it will show you the actual error message.

Let's use this bug report to track the broken error message code. Then you can
post about the reason why it's failing in
https://discuss.kde.org/t/cant-save-preferences-in-kcm-sddm/2104

[dolphin] [Bug 471043] New: Dolphin (flathub install) crashes on launch due to no thumbnail directory

2023-06-14 Thread Paul
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=471043

Bug ID: 471043
Summary: Dolphin (flathub install) crashes on launch due to no
thumbnail directory
Classification: Applications
   Product: dolphin
   Version: 23.04.2
  Platform: Flatpak
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: minor
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: dolphin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: p...@roe.me
CC: kfm-de...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Installed Dolphin from flathub. Tried to launch, it would appear for a few
seconds then crash. Running from a terminal showed the following

[user@pc ~]$ flatpak run org.kde.dolphin
kf.kio.widgets: Cannot read information about filesystem under path
"/home/user/.var/app/org.kde.dolphin/cache/thumbnails/"
kf.solid.frontend.devicemanager: Couldn't get StorageAccess for
""/home/user/.var/app/org.kde.dolphin/cache/thumbnails/"" - File doesn't exist

Manually creating the thumbnails directory solved the issue (would have thought
the installation or first run would create this). Note I am running Sway
window manager and have only DigiKam and Dolphin installed from KDE currently
via flatpak.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. install Dolphin from flathub
2. launch dolphin (from rofi)
3. wait a few seconds

OBSERVED RESULT
Dolphin crashed

EXPECTED RESULT
Not crashing

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Fedora Sericea (up to date as of 20230614)

KDE Application Platform: Branch 5.15-22.08 (updated 20230614 from flathub
