[dolphin] [Bug 476103] New: Dolphin auto selects all when trying to SHIFT move files (after having used CTRL + A and using CTRL + click to deselect folders)

2023-10-25 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=476103

Bug ID: 476103
Summary: Dolphin auto selects all when trying to SHIFT move
files (after having used CTRL + A and using CTRL +
click to deselect folders)
Classification: Applications
   Product: dolphin
   Version: 23.04.0
  Platform: Kubuntu
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: dolphin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: wooden...@proton.me
CC: kfm-de...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Dolphin automatically re-selects all folders when trying to SHIFT move files
after having used CTRL + A and then CTRL + click to deselect said folders.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open a folder containing files and folders.
2. Press CTRL + A to select everything.
3. Hold CTRL and click the folders to de-select them.
4. Try to SHIFT + move (move files without confirmation dialogue) the files
into one of the folders.

OBSERVED RESULT
All folders become selected, along with the already selected files.

EXPECTED RESULT
That nothing happens, and SHIFT + move only moves the selected files.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Ubuntu (Kubuntu): 23.04
KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.104.0
Qt Version: 5.15.8

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
If the folder only contains files + 1 folder, nothing happens if you try to
move everything to the automatically selected folder.

If the folder contains files + a folder called "a" and a folder called "New
Folder", and you try to move everything to New Folder, nothing happens. If you
try to move everything to folder "a", you get an error saying "This action
would overwrite '/path/to/a' with itself. Please enter a new file name".

If you use CTRL + A to select all, and then CTRL + click the folder(s), and
then CTRL + click a file, when you try to SHIFT + move the selected files, the
de-selected file gets selected automatically, and if you complete the move, all
files are moved.
If you use CTRL + A to select all, and then CTRL + click a file, and then CTRL
+ click the folder(s), everything (folders and files) is selected again.

Box selecting the files normally and then using SHIFT move works as expected.

[kwin] [Bug 476102] New: [Wayland] Downscaled X11 Windows Look Blocky/Blurry

2023-10-25 Thread Eamonn Rea
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=476102

Bug ID: 476102
Summary: [Wayland] Downscaled X11 Windows Look Blocky/Blurry
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: 5.27.8
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: multi-screen
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: eamonn...@protonmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
On KDE Plasma Wayland, with one fractionally scaled display and any number of
displays without any scaling, the text in downscaled(?) X11 applications look
blocky when using the "Apply scaling themselves" option under Legacy (X11)
Application settings once they are moved from the scaled display to a display
which is not scaled. Images look more on the blurry side. The larger the font
in the application, the more it moves from the "blocky" to the "blurry" end of
the spectrum. The content of X11 windows with this option does not look as
smooth as one would expect.

The thinner the font as well, the more apparent this effect becomes. Here is an
example of the effect on some text on the Steam:
- Games in library: https://i.postimg.cc/0j0YWsQm/image.png
- Some general library text: https://i.postimg.cc/xTgGLnBV/image.png
- Image content on the Store Page looks noticeably blurrier in the client (X11)
than it does on Firefox on the same display.
  - Steam Client: https://i.postimg.cc/sXF53XG7/image.png
  - Firefox: https://i.postimg.cc/zDFT1qzH/image.png

The issue is not exclusive to Steam, here are other examples:
- ProtonUp-Qt Flatpak, running with QT_QPA_PLATFORM=xcb to enforce X11:
https://i.postimg.cc/90L4wF0x/image.png
  - Here's how it looks under Wayland on the same display:
https://postimg.cc/xqH2DtwK/487bfd88
- Cookie Clicker, an Electron game running under Proton (Wine X11) with the
"--force-device-scale-factor=1.5" launch option:
https://i.postimg.cc/6qkk0C8T/image.png
  - Using the Wine integer scaling option does not really alleviate the issue
either

This applies to all X11 applications:
- X11 applications that can apply scaling themselves, such as modern Qt/GTK
applications, including some Electron applications such as the Heroic Games
Launcher.
- X11 applications that cannot apply scaling themselves but which can have a
scale factor set, such as the Steam Client (STEAM_FORCE_DESKTOPUI_SCALING=1.5)
or older Electron applications including games (both native and running under
Wine) such as Cookie Clicker or Melvor Idle (--force-device-scale-factor=1.5).
Wine applications with a DPI scale factor set also exhibit similar behaviour,
to varying degrees depending on how high you set the scale factor (it's not as
easy to get right as it is for the other two, since you can't provide a decimal
value)
- X11 applications unscaled, which look noticeably blockier and not just
smaller when not on the scaled display.

I understand that when running with this "Apply scaling themselves" option that
a single XWayland server is used, which is why applications are downscaled in
the first place. I did test this quickly with a non-fractional scale factor and
applications looked better, but still not perfect.

In spite of this, I'm wondering if perhaps this is related to KWin in Plasma 5
not using the pretty new Wayland fractional scaling protocol? Since to my
understanding for the scaled display, KWin is downscaling from the nearest
integer value in order to achieve fractional scaling, as for a long time there
was no protocol for fraction scaling on Wayland. Since when moving from the
scaled display over to another display we're essentially downscaling *again*,
maybe this effect is a side-effect of that? It still happens with integer
scaling values I think though, but I only tested briefly.

If this is true, then could this potentially be fixed when Plasma implements
the Wayland fractional scaling protocol in KWin in Plasma 6? I have read on
other bug reports that implementing this protocol is planned for Plasma 6, but
I'm not sure if it's still on the roadmap or if I perhaps misunderstood.

I also understand that this cannot be backported so I am not jabbing anyone who
has worked tirelessly on making Plasma Wayland as rock-solid as it is (a visual
oddity is very minor in the grand scheme and shows how far Wayland has come!).

Of course, the *real* solution here is for applications to port to Wayland. If
the Steam Client ports to Wayland, if Electron Wayland support continues at the
brisk pace it's going at, and once Wine (and derivatives like Proton) lands
Wayland support with support for fractional scaling, this issue will disappear
for a huge amount of use-cases. Since many Qt and GTK apps all support Wayland
already, the main way I am impacted by this is with games and Wine applications
(particularly tools like ModOrganizer 2).

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Use two displays, one with fractional scaling and one without

Workaround automatically applied using Save As on a file with such a name.

Although this doesn't fix the issue, this depicts a temporary workaround used
automatically by the File Picker when using Save As on an existent open file
with relevant UTF-8 characters in its name (since obviously someone encountered
this exact bug at some point in the past but didn't fix it entirely).

This isn't a fix because it requires prior knowledge of how to escape such
characters, which isn't a skill we should expect of most users, and doesn't
appear to be documented.

Thank you for the bug report!

However Plasma 5.24.4 is no longer eligible for support or maintenance from
KDE; supported versions are 5.27, and 5.27 or newer. Please upgrade to a
supported version as soon as your distribution makes it available to you.
Plasma is a fast-moving project, and bugs in one version are often fixed in the
next one.

If you need support for Plasma 5.24.4, please contact your distribution, who
bears the responsibility of providing support for older releases that are no
longer supported by KDE.

If you can reproduce the issue after upgrading to a supported version, feel
free to re-open this bug report.

For future reference, it seems that a less nuanced way of achieving this
already exists in the KDE settings. In Applications -> Legacy X11 App Support
you can allow legacy apps to read key inputs. This sadly doesn't allow you to
set specific keys as allowed and mouse forward and backward do not get passed.

[plasmashell] [Bug 349785] Intelligent auto-hide mode ("Dodge Windows") that hides the panel only when windows are maximized or move over it

2023-10-25 Thread Matthias
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=349785

I feel like this is bad communication by now.

First, I invested quite some time into tracking and documenting half a dozen
issues related to "windows can cover" and it does seem, it is essentially
unmaintained for quite some time now.

If it was clear that it was gonna be discontinued, a little note could have
helped, at least when I issued the first "windows can cover issue"
Then, you seem to discontinue one feature, to introduce another one that does
almost the same thing: I don't see the point here at all.

How is "hiding" different from "can be covered" Does it animate the hide? I am
a bit puzzled, as to what I should expect.
To me, that smells like the previous version was just a messy implementation,
and now we are launching the same product under a different name to address
that.

Also in order to clarify the state for other contributors as well, I would
welcome a public statement around that issue, thanks a lot.

Nevertheless Baloo can index the epub, maybe this is good enough.

it shows the correct sunset time( when night color supposed to kick in) but at
least for me it kicks in at 2PM EST even though it detects the coordinates and
calculates the time correctly (18:37 EST, full transition 19:20 EST).

[kaddressbook] [Bug 476097] New: display entries from different addressbooks in different colors

2023-10-25 Thread Jack
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=476097

Bug ID: 476097
Summary: display entries from different addressbooks in
different colors
Classification: Applications
   Product: kaddressbook
   Version: 5.24.2
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: kdepim-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: ostrof...@users.sourceforge.net
  Target Milestone: ---

If kaddressbook is configured with multiple address books, entries from all of
them are displayed in the same color, and cannot be easily distinguished
without clicking a single entry and looking at it's details. In korganizer,
events from different calendars are displayed in different (configurable)
colors. I would love a similar feature in kaddressbook.

[plasmashell] [Bug 476077] [RFE] Support for systemd soft-reboot

2023-10-25 Thread Oleksandr Natalenko

(In reply to Nate Graham from comment #1)
> So the advantage to the user would be faster rebooting? Can you anticipate
> what any of the disadvantages would be?

The disadvantage is that if a user updates the kernel, the update will not be
applied. On Arch I think in this case the reboot will even fail completely
because multiple kernels are not supported, and a new one overwrites the old
one, and this breaks modules.

But that's by design. I do not see other disadvantages.

  Component|virtual-keyboard|general

This appears to affect new panels too; creating a new horizontal panel when
there's already a vertical panel causes it to be mis-positioned in exactly the
same way as Maliit is. Seems like the vertical panel struts are wrong.

I'm using the system at 200% scale, so I thought maybe the struts were in
physical pixels and not logical pixels. However I tested at 100% scale, and the
issue remained.

[frameworks-kwallet] [Bug 473701] kwallet-5.109.0-1 asking for wifi password on login

2023-10-25 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=473701

I filed the other report where I mentioned this one might be a duplicate of
mine. I went to KWallet Manager and created a new kwallet and chose classic
blowfish as the type of wallet encryption, and I gave the new wallet an empty
password as suggested above.

I logged out and then logged back in. Indeed, I wasn't asked for my user
password to unlock KWallet this time, naturally, but I was asked for the WiFi
password directly. I entered it one more time. Then, I logged out and logged
back in. Now, the new KWallet I created called 'reset' with an empty password
using blowfish classic encryption is working and letting me log in and is
getting the WiFi password automatically from the new wallet. Great. That's
fixed. Now, I just need the Alt-Tab Shortcut working for Task Switcher and
things will be back to the way they were working before 20 October 2023.
