It depends. If you just want screenshots, you should have no problems. If you
have more than 600 MiB of spare RAM before you start recording, you should also
be able to record.

Bug ID: 478033
Summary: EWS accounts unusable - constantly lose authentication
Classification: Frameworks and Libraries
   Product: Akonadi
   Version: 5.240.81
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux

  Reporter: aro...@archlinux.org

  Target Milestone: ---

EWS accounts (Outlook365) are unusable in 24.02 beta - after authenticating,
the mail is synced once, and then the account is disconnected and one needs to
go to the accounts settings and re-authenticate every time.

Another system with 23.08 works fine, so this is not a server side issue.

[kwin] [Bug 478032] New: Focus doesn't follow mouse over window title bars under Wayland.

2023-12-03 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=478032

Bug ID: 478032
Summary: Focus doesn't follow mouse over window title bars
under Wayland.
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: wayland-generic
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: 0x8badf00dd...@proton.me
  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 163844
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=163844=edit
Correct followed by incorrect behavior.

SUMMARY
There is a Wayland specific issue present in Arch Linux's regular repo as well
as the kde-unstable beta repo. Normally in xorg when the window activation
policy is set to have the focus follow the mouse, it would follow even over a
window's title bar including its borders, where the mouse changes to its
resizing icon. When switching to Wayland the focus doesn't follow over the
border or the title bar. This bugs middle click actions set to active windows
as middle clicking doesn't acquire focus.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Change to Wayland session.
2. In Window Behavior, Set window activation policy to any "focus follows
mouse" option
3. Open two windows on your desktop, give focus to one, then carefully hover
your mouse over the titlebar of the other without touching any other part of
the window. (As show in the attached video.)

OBSERVED RESULT
The second window wont gain focus until you touch something other than the
titlebar and its border.

EXPECTED RESULT
The second window should become focused when the mouse touches the borderline
of the titlebar.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
In the attached video I show working behavior followed by bugged. I've seen it
for awhile in Debian's and Arch's regular repo aswell as Arch's kde-unstable

> So you want power management suppression suppression? lol

Not as "lol" as it may at first sound. There are always apps which abuse the
inhibition. Here is a fresh example from the [Gnome code
monkes](https://idiod.video/11d2fd.png): It doesn't allow to turn off screen,
coz it's downloading something in background. So they srsly expect monitor not
going to sleep for many hours of download.

So the ability to easily reset all the inhibition tokens from the UI would be
really awesome and not that hard to do.

P.S. in that particular case even killing the boxes app doesn't help, since
it's a flatpak one, and i assume flatpak somehow proxies (an hence keeps alive)
the DBUS connection for it. So the monitor never sleeps anymore.

To select a value for the display under the thumbnails, a natural choice would
be the one labelled 'default'.

However, this report could also be read as 'a user got confused and assumed a
defect'. A decision has to be made like 'user not smart enough for the app -
don't care' or 'app not intuitive enough for the intended users - should be
improved'

I'm having the same issue since I last updated my system (Manjaro).
It was a large update, many KDE components and also all CUPS related components
(cups and filters, ppd).
My Canon Pixma drivers were not updated but I reinstalled them and
removed/readded the printer. No good.

Printing with 'lp', Libreoffice Writer, Gimp, all ok.
Last week I was sure I was having the same issue printing PDFs from Okular, but
I tried it now and seems ok.

Gwenview definitely has this issue, printing 'landscape layout' images.

> I cannot reproduce it in Plasma 6 when using Ukrainian keyboard layout.
> Shift+2 produces " too in UA layout.

I have a similar Wayland-specific issue on both Plasma 5 and Plasma 6.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1. Switch to the Ukrainian layout
2. Open multiple windows of some program
3. Press Alt+"Above_Tab" shortcut to trigger "Walk Through Windows of Current
Application" Task Switcher action

OBSERVED RESULT:
KWin Wayland presumably expects specifically Alt+~ combination (and not Alt+ʼ
which is produced with input using Ukrainian keyboard layout).
As a workaround I can set Alt+ʼ as an alternative shortcut. On the X11 Session
there wan't need in this.

I am having a similar issue without the laptop lid being closed and without
auto-login.

My monitor is connected via DP, when I start up Neon both monitors come on, as
they should, for SDDM. Enter my login info fine and hit enter, then both
screens go blank. The laptop screen should, as it is set to switch to the
external monitor which should still be on. I can get the external monitor to
come back on by turning it off (which starts up my laptop monitor), and then
back on again (which turns off laptop monitor and sends desktop to the external
monitor as originally intended.

Latest Stable as of this post: Build 1840 from
https://binary-factory.kde.org/view/MacOS/job/KMyMoney_Release_macos/

Aqbanking also seems absent on my machine on Nightly, but as it is Nightly, I'm
not sure that merits mention here.

Unsure if this merits a new bug report or is merely additional information for
this one, so I'm initially piggybacking here.
Experiencing the OP's issue, using a newly install KMyMoney using latest stable
build for MacOS, on an Apple Silicon M1 MacBook Pro running Sonoma 14.1.
Configure aqbanking is not presented as an option under Settings.

Happy to file this separately, if that's preferred. Happy to provide additional

If you set printer options in System settings, Printers, Configure, those
aren't picked by KDE applications when you go to print, and choose Print
options.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install printer
2. Configure printer options in System settings and change from A4 to Letter,
and click OK.
3. Open up Kate, type something, then go to Print, select the printer that was
set to Letter, click Properties, and check Page size under Paper.

OBSERVED RESULT
Paper size is set to A4 despite the printer having been set to Letter size, and
the system page size is set to Letter by the locale.

EXPECTED RESULT
Any KDE program picks up the correct paper size once it has been set on the
printer configuration.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: KDE neon 5.27
KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.9
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.112.0
Qt Version: 5.15.11
Kernel Version: 6.2.0-37-generic (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The printer is a RICOH_SP C250SF, set up over IPP.
This issue also shows up in Okular if you open any PDF, go to print, and choose
Properties next to the printer that's configured to print Letter.
This also occurs on my KDE 6 Beta 1 test system, which was installed from this
ISO: neon-unstable-20231126-1118.iso.

When I'm trying to log out; restart; or power off the computer, Plasma pops up
a prompt re-asking me if I want to do any of those three actions, rather than
just confirming the action I already selected.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Select Log out/Restart/Power off from the panel

OBSERVED RESULT
Plasma pops up a prompt re-asking me if I want to do any of those three
actions.

EXPECTED RESULT
Plasma pops up a prompt confirming I want to do the action I already invoked.

SUMMARY
KDE's popups (usually referred to as visual feedback in System Settings) do not
show under KDE 6 Plasma Beta 1. These popups can be from system volume changes
or display brightness changes.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open the Sound KCM in System Settings and ensure all the 'Show visual
feedback for changes to...' checkboxes are checked.
2. Attempt to change the volume from anywhere, whether it be using the key bind
or scrolling on the volume indicator in the System Tray.

OBSERVED RESULT
The 'ding' sound effect from changing the volume plays in the background,
however no visual feedback is presented.

Journal from a GNOME Boxes VM in which Plasma 5.27.80 froze after exiting full
screen mode

SUMMARY

I booted the Fedora Rawhide/40 KDE Plasma live image
Fedora-KDE-Live-x86_64-Rawhide-20231202.n.0.iso in GNOME Boxes QEMU/KVM VMs in
a Fedora 39 KDE Plasma host. To work around the VM getting stuck on the Plasma
5.27.80 splash screen as I reported at
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=477643 I changed to VT2 using the keyboard
menu in the top bar of GNOME Boxes and selecting Ctrl+Alt+F2. When I changed
back to VT1, Plasma was shown with the Plasma Welcome program open.
I exited full screen mode by selecting the full screen button in the GNOME
Boxes top bar. Plasma froze after exiting full screen mode. I clicked to open
Dolphin and Firefox from the panel and open the Application Launcher menu, but
nothing opened. I clicked to enter full screen mode again and Plasma started
responding again. The programs and menu I clicked on when not in full screen
mode opened.

The journal showed spice-vdagentd errors in which it appeared to be trying to
connect to mutter by dbus which was odd. There were kwin_wayland errors
repeated hundreds of times while Plasma was frozen like kwin_wayland_drm: Page
flip failed: No space left on device and kwin_wayland_drm: Presentation failed!

As you can see I can snap the windows still but no hints show up.

SUMMARY

When dragging a window to a corner, the top of the screen or the side of the
screen, the hints that normally show up when you are snapping windows never
show up. I can still snap windows, but the hint never shows up. The hints do
not show up for the custom tiling either.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Drag window to side, top, or corner of the screen.

OBSERVED RESULT
There are no hints for snapping windows when there should be.

EXPECTED RESULT
Hints of where the window will be snapped on the screen will show up.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS

KDE Plasma Version: 5.90
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.246.0
Qt Version: 6.6.1

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This also happened on OpenSUSE Krypton. I cannot find any way for the hints to
show up.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I've submitted report to Arch, as initially was not able to reproduce the issue
with AppImage binary.
See here:
https://gitlab.archlinux.org/archlinux/packaging/packages/krita/-/issues/1

After conversation with maintainer and performing of some extra tests (I
unpacked AppImage, switched to chroot environment, ran it via strace, collected
~200 MB logs) I've got pretty the same error.
Please find crash report in attachment.

One would just need to write a KIO worker (formerly known as kioslave) for
Gemini like the existing kio_gopher for Gopher. (Yes, Gopher already works in
Falkon if one has kio_gopher installed! I am surprised that Juraj appears not
to be aware of that, at least judging from his mailing list reply. The only
known issue is that the URLs do not end up in the browser history, see bug
#406375, which sadly has not even been acknowledged by a maintainer for more
than 4 years now. Support for Gemini could be implemented the same way, though
I am not aware of any implementation at this time.)

See https://userbase.kde.org/Kio_gopher and
https://invent.kde.org/network/kio-gopher .

[plasmashell] [Bug 478014] New: Switch on Desktop Edge should only show screen edge glows when there's a desktop that can be switched to in that direction.

2023-12-03 Thread Ethan J
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=478014

Bug ID: 478014
Summary: Switch on Desktop Edge should only show screen edge
glows when there's a desktop that can be switched to
in that direction.
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: master
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: l7i20j...@mozmail.com
CC: k...@davidedmundson.co.uk
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY
Switch on Desktop Edge allows the user to switch virtual desktops just by
moving the cursor to an edge of the screen. I find it very useful for dragging
windows to other virtual desktops. The UI uses the screen edge glows to
indicate this is going to occur, which is very useful. However, it is very
misleading and unintuitive when the glow shows even when there is no desktop to
go to in that direction. An edge glow should only appear when there is a
desktop that can be switched to.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Enable Switch on Desktop Edge (either on Always or Only While Dragging
windows).
2. Move the cursor (or drag a window) to an edge of the screen where there is
no virtual desktop to switch to.

OBSERVED RESULT
The glow appears regardless of whether or not a virtual desktop can be switched
to in that direction. This is misleading and makes the experience feel very
unpolished.

EXPECTED RESULT
The glow should only appear when there is a virtual desktop that can be
switched to in that direction. This is much more intuitive.

It should show up for Plasma Renderer, it does for me.

If it doesn't try running `kcmshell5 kcm_qtquicksettings` from a terminal.

The plasma-desktop package supplies this settings module on Fedora.

No results from that search. There must be some "normal" way to launch whatever
configuration UI it is that you have in mind - like a CLI command, a particular
executable or something.
