[Spectacle] [Bug 479212] New: Toolbars become invisible/inaccessible
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=479212 Bug ID: 479212 Summary: Toolbars become invisible/inaccessible Classification: Applications Product: Spectacle Version: 23.08.4 Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: General Assignee: noaha...@gmail.com Reporter: pallasw...@proton.me CC: k...@david-redondo.de Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY When the captured area is tall, the toolbars will move to be above or below the captured area, as required. However, they can be pushed entirely off-screen and become inaccessible, and they will disappear even when there is enough space to show them. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Optional - Use dual monitors which are not horizontally aligned (make the left screen's top right corner meet the right screen's bottom left corner) - This will exacerbate the issue. 2. Take a rectangular region screenshot and stretch the region toward the top and bottom of the screen(s). Note that it behaves differently on the differently aligned displays - the left and right monitor will not exhibit the same behaviour as each other, but both will suffer the same eventuality, which is 3. Find the toolbars either off-screen and inaccessible; or disappearing completely, even when there is sufficient space to show them. If you lack the hardware (two monitors, although that is not mandatory, it happens with a single monitor also) or something else to attempt this, I could take mobile phone photos of the situation. But it's not easy for me, I would have to borrow a phone and send the photos to myself then download them to save them to upload them. [kbackup] [Bug 479206] Large file missing from backup
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=479206 --- Comment #1 from pallaswept --- Thinking about this some more, it occurred to me that there are really two separate issues to address here: 1) The missing file 2) The log stating a success when it wasn't This reminds me of that TV show "air crash investigations" where there's never a single thing that goes wrong to cause a disaster, it has to be a chain of failures. This is that. If either one of those two things had happened without the other, it wouldn't have been so bad - I'd either have the file, or I'd have the knowledge that something went wrong and maybe I don't have the file. But the way it is, I am led to believe I have the file, and I don't, and that's a recipe for a disaster. Sorry to double the workload here, but I thought it was an important realisation that this bug is really two and needs two things fixed... -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=479206 Bug ID: 479206 Summary: Large file missing from backup Classification: Applications Product: kbackup Version: 23.08.4 Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: critical Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: kol...@aon.at Reporter: pallasw...@proton.me Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY I was performing a backup which includes three VM images - one ~1GB .iso, two .qcow2 files, one 16GB and one 84GB in size. On viewing the resulting archive from Kbackup, the other files all exist, including two of the largest files (1GB and 16GB) but the 84GB file is nowhere to be found. I watched Kbackup compress the file for some two hours (see https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=479204) and there is no error in the output suggesting something went wrong, but the file is simply not there. Looking at my previous backups which should include this file, it is not present in any of them. So apparently I've never had a backup of this file, and it's the primary reason I'm making this backup. I thought that compressing 100GB of data down to a 6GB archive was impressive, now I see how such a high ratio was achieved :D Jokes aside, this is pretty bad. If there's anything I can do to assist, please do let me know, I would like to help if I can. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Backup large files 2. Open archive 3. [kbackup] [Bug 479204] New: Extremely slow compression - single-threaded compression appears to be the limiting factor.
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=479204 Bug ID: 479204 Summary: Extremely slow compression - single-threaded compression appears to be the limiting factor. Classification: Applications Product: kbackup Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: kol...@aon.at Reporter: pallasw...@proton.me Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY Compression is painfully slow. I am currently backing up a profile including some rather large files - VM images. One is 16.8GB, another is 84.1GB. Kbackup is compressing them, as per the profile settings. So far I have finished the 16GB file and am at 23% of the compression of the 84GB file, so I'm about 35 GB in, and the time is 1:50:00 (1 hour 50 minutes) edit: While writing this, the backup completed at 2:22:48, with a total of about 101GB of files, compressed down to an impressive 6.7GB. If I perform a full disk backup (which I do occasionally) using clonezilla, an entire ~800GB of data can be archived and compressed (to a similar ratio) in around 30-35 minutes. Accordingly, I would expect that Kbackup should be capable of making a backup 1/8th of the size in roughly 1/8th of the time Which would be about 5 minutes. But at 142 minutes it's taking at least 30 times as long, which means it's about 30 times slower than one would reasonably expect it to be. I can see by looking at a process monitor that the archiving is using 100% of a single 1 of the 24 cores available to it. Which lines up about right with the rough math above. Kbackup's archiving algorithm simply isn't using the resources available to it. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Backup a large file or files 2. Grow grey hairs while waiting 3. Don't profit? :) OBSERVED RESULT Extremely long backup times EXPECTED RESULT Extremely short backup times SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS OpenSUSE Tumbleweed KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.10 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.113.0 Qt Version: 5.15.11 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Enough complaining, because I generally *really* like Kbackup, so I'd like to try to help with a solution. Perhaps supporting a new compression algorithm/format, which uses multithreading natively, might be an easy solution to this issue? Or perhaps better still, the existing compression formats, which produce an exceptional compression ratio, can be configured to use a multithreaded implementation? Another alternative, even if the existing compression algorithm was used, but multiple files were compressed simultaneously (in parallel rather than serially) that would make a great deal of difference. Given that the compression is so slow, and single-threaded, the disk throughput should not become a bottleneck here. I really like Kbackup, it's just this one thing that makes it kinda painful. If there's anything I could do to help, please do let me know. I used to work in software development, and while I'm quite inexperienced with KDE such that I would not be able to provide a solution single-handedly, I might be able to assist someone else if you would like? I am retired disabled, so I have some time on my hands to assist. PS: On looking into this, I have discovered that the 84GB file which I just spent two hours waiting to compress, is not even included in the backup. The 16GB file is, the 1GB file is, but the 84GB file is simply missing. I will file a separate bug for this, as this is a serious problem. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=477187 Joe changed: What|Removed |Added CC||timexwarri...@gmail.com Platform|Other |Ubuntu --- Comment #3 from Joe --- (In reply to random011 from comment #0) Same issue here. When navigating -nearby- directories with thousands of files, my dolphin will lock up entirely until it is able to scan through all of them. Granted, this happens while accessing a remote directory mounted using sshfs-fuse. But even still, when testing with PCManFM and Thunar, theyhave no loading or performance issues with navigating around the same folders. It would be great if we had a way to disable the scanning behavior or perhaps manually initiate/omit specific folders. The existing functionality works fine as long as there are not a crazy amount of files in nearby directories. Perhaps an adjustable limit to how many files it tries to scan before giving up? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[umbrello] [Bug 479199] New: Enhancement Request - ERM Composite Keys
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=479199 Bug ID: 479199 Summary: Enhancement Request - ERM Composite Keys Classification: Applications Product: umbrello Version: 2.30.3 (KDE releases 19.12.3) Platform: Mint (Debian based) OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: umbrello-de...@kde.org Reporter: sad_bu...@hotmail.com Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY *** Apologies - I looked for a route to submit an enhancement request but didn't see one: using this as the next best thing... Umbrello does not presently have a mechanism to express the existence of composite keys, for example when creating a logical association between two data elements via a link table... The link table would hold fields for the foreign keys of each of the two tables being linked... along with a unique, auto-incrementing primary key. To prevent a scenario in which additional connections are made between the same pair of referenced records, a composite key can be created in the link table by combining both of the foreign keys. It is currently possible to set a Foreign Key entity constraint to a data element, but it is not possible to combine two columns in to a composite key. *** STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Create 3 tables 2. In the 3rd table, create Foreign Key fields linking to the Primary Keys of the 1st and 2nd Tables, respectively 3. Try and fail to annotate that the two Foreign Keys in the 3rd [link] table should be treated as a unique [composite] key, to allow the database to prevent creation of duplicate links. OBSERVED RESULT EXPECTED RESULT It is not possible to express composite keys in Umbrello SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Windows: macOS: Linux/KDE Plasma: (available in About System) KDE Plasma Version: KDE Frameworks Version: Qt Version: ADDITIONAL INFORMATION -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

Even `xset dpms force suspend` doesn't actually work; my displays will suspend, but then come back on moments later. (I prefer not to turn them completely off because that has historically confused kwin and scattered all of my windows to the four winds.) This has always turned out to be due to some software (that I left running and forgot about) having a surprise feature of, as the frequent culprit SDL calls it, inhibiting the screen saver. Which is very frustrating if you aren't aware that that's a freedesktop capability, let me tell you. :) Anyway, it seems to me that if I /manually/ lock my session, there's no reason to also prevent my displays from sleeping -- whatever might be on the screen, I can't see it anyway! [Discover] [Bug 418555] Discover gets stuck at "Fetching updates..." and shows an error message related to fwupd
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=418555 Nate Graham changed: What|Removed |Added Status|REOPENED|RESOLVED Resolution|--- |FIXED --- Comment #4 from Nate Graham --- Sam, you're using a version of Plasma (5.24) that's no longer supported by KDE, and the issue shown in your logs is not related to Discover itself. The problem is with fwupd, which is a 3rd-party thing that Discover relies on, but doesn't have any control over. I'd recommend reaching out to the Kubuntu folks or System76 for support with this issue. Thanks! -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[kwin] [Bug 479168] De-saturated Colors in HDR Mode
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=479168 --- Comment #4 from Simon Berz --- Created attachment 164556 --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=164556=edit drm_info, kscreen-doctor, edid, and ddcutil outputs for SDR & HDR modes on HDMI & DP I added a new attachment with drm_info outputs. I also did more testing focusing on the monitor colorspace. It actually works fine on Linux using HDMI instead of DisplayPort! On Linux HDMI always used YCbCr while DP always used RGB color formats (the monitor has a way to show this, just not in the info section where all other connection infos are). These formats are used regardless of refresh rate and also does not show any signs of chroma subsampling (so probably not a bandwidth limit). On macOS YCbCr is used for DP and HDMI and both show full colors. On Windows 10 I tested YCbCr and RGB over DP on the same hardware and both formats worked. So the issue can be narrowed down to DislayPort or RGB color format (or a combination of both) on Linux. It starts to look more like a kernel issue to me but I don't really now enough about the APIs to be certain. This is probably a bit late to ask this but WCG and HDR should work on AMD without a patched kernel, right? As far as I followed/understood the developments in this space, HDR should work right now and the new proposals/developments are to move the processing from shaders to gpu hardware for better power efficiency. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
