[okular] [Bug 480989] New: feature: add option to enter percentage for default zoom

2024-02-06 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=480989

Bug ID: 480989
Summary: feature: add option to enter percentage for default
zoom
Classification: Applications
   Product: okular
   Version: 23.08.4
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: okular-de...@kde.org
  Reporter: o...@thegoulds.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Currently, the only options for the "default zoom" in Okular are 100%, Fit
Width, Fit Height, and Auto Fit. Personally, I find all of these options to be
either too small or too large, and generally like it to be around 75%, and I'd
like if there was some way to make that the default. Overall, I think it would
be beneficial to everyone if there was another option for a custom percentage,
and one could just simply type in the number instead, allowing for more user
customization.

[kde] [Bug 480988] New: When moving the mouse over widgets with hover effects (e.g. launcher menu items, system settings side bar) CPU usage is higher than 150%

2024-02-06 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=480988

Bug ID: 480988
Summary: When moving the mouse over widgets with hover effects
(e.g. launcher menu items, system settings side bar)
CPU usage is higher than 150%
Classification: I don't know
   Product: kde
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: unassigned-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: feat...@engineer.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
***
NOTE: If you are reporting a crash, please try to attach a backtrace with debug
symbols.
See
https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports
***
When moving the mouse over widgets with hover effects (e.g. launcher menu
items, system settings side bar) CPU usage is higher than 150%

Interestingly - in Dolphin side bar, where there's also a hover effect (albeit
different one) - this doesn't happen.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open system settings
2. Move mouse over the side bar (this also happens in many other places, e.g.
effects election in settings and info center)

OBSERVED RESULT
CPU usage as reported in top shoots up to more than 150%.

EXPECTED RESULT
CPU usage shouldn't noticeably increase - as is the case with Dolphin's side
bar.

The "pkcon update" moves past the thumbnail grid, kwin-addons now but stumbles

[kwin] [Bug 480885] High CPU usage for window under cursor \ plasma shell (if over desktop) and kwin_wayland when moving mouse cursor

With regards to the increased kwin_wayland cpu usage on my latest reply (as
compared to my first one): it stemmed from the fps desktop effect - when I
turned it off, the figures returned to the ones I have reported initially, that
is to say, the nvidia driver didn't make it worse (nor better).

Reopening since this doesn't seem like
https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-115717 -- the problem persists if I
remove the custom filterAcceptsRow, and instead use the regex filtering
provided by QSortFilterProxyModel. This indicates that QTBUG-115717 is probably
not the root cause.

It still seems highly likely that all the bugs marked as duplicates of this one
are actual duplicates, as the symptoms are almost exactly the same. However, I
have not been able to uncover the root cause yet, and more investigation is
needed.

This issue has been reported both against Qt 6.6 and Qt 6.7, so this doesn't
seem like a regression in Qt 6.7.

Check attached screenshot.
In dark mode contrast (between text and background) is not verified fpr good
visiblility and what user has set is presented, even isn't this good
combination. In result if the user chooses the color not carefully then result
not always will be as he expected - usually visibility of text will be bad.
Similar case we can find in Spectacle, after we save screenshot we see
something like "The screenshot was saved as ", where is barely
visible.

If anyone CCd on this bug report is testing the Plasma 6 RC and would re-test
the issue, that would be lovely. We've made a ton of multi-monitor improvements
in Plasma 6, and it's possible it's been fixed.

Note: this bug is reported to only happen on X11, so I'm interested in knowing
if it's fixed there, but regardless, I recommend using the Wayland session if
you want a good multi-monitor experience.

[kdeconnect] [Bug 418074] KDE Connect crashed sometimes when sharing files from Android

I was able to reproduce this, intermittently

## Steps to reproduce

Source: Sony Xperia Android phone
Dest: Laptop

On my first attempt, I tried sending a few PDFs via the Android File browser >
Share > KDE. This was successful.

I was able to reproduce the bug when I attempted to send 17 jpg files using the
kdeconnect Android app UI - share files
On the laptop, the notification showing the transfer transfer hung at 11 of 17
files 148MiB of 159.5 MiB
I received a notification on the phone that a transfer had failed
Any attempt to send more files resulted in the files will be added to the total
in the laptop notification, but the progress was still hung until kdeconnect
was restarted on the laptop.

After restarting kdeconnect, I found I was able to transfer multiple jpgs using
Google Photos > Share > KDE Connect
I was no longer able to reproduce the bug from Android KDE Connect > Share (for
now)

## Notes

There are a number of bugs related to crashes in kdeconnect if the user
atteempts to transfer multiple files, or a large file, from a phone to Plasma.
I'm not sure they are all duplicates. I'm listing them here so that someone
more knowledgeable can more easily take a look at them as a group.

I was not able to reproduce this bug. I tested by sharing a 2.3G .iso file from
Plasma to my Android phone with kdeconnect. The transfer was successful.

Erik, can you please confirm that you can still reproduce this bug on a system
that is up to date? If you can, can you please provide a few extra details:
1. The operating System that kdeconnect is installed on
2. Current version of KDE software (you can just copy from About This System
using the button)
3. Current version of kdeconnect
4. The file size you attempted to transfer (I assume 2147483647 from your
original report was in bytes)

Thanks for your input into this bug.

Thank you for the bug report! Unfortunately the backtrace is incomplete and
missing debug symbols that we need to figure out exactly what's going wrong.

Could you please install debug symbols and attach a new symbolicated backtrace
generated by using coredumpctl gdb in a terminal window? See
https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports#Retrieving_a_backtrace_using_coredumpctl
for details about how to do this.

Thanks again!

Seems to have been fixed with the update to
xdg-utils_1.2.1-0xneon+22.04+jammy+release+build5_all.deb that was installed
today. Also had update to google chrome to again install for some reason in a
strange coincidence. It installed perfectly this time after I installed
xdg-utils first to see if the brokenness continued when installing the chrome
after it. Thanks for the fixed package whoever did it.

I am not fully convinced that this is an upstream issue -- when I trigger the
faulty behavior, I see a lot of binding loops/layout polish loops in my logs.
Also, for 480707, when I added debugging print statements, I saw that the
contentItem of the QQC2.CheckDelegate (in configTimeZones.qml) had zero
implicit height, which doesn't seem correct.

[kde] [Bug 480976] New: Desktop Effects Window Open/Close Animation "Scale": Task Switcher creates enormous graphical artefacts on screen when "Window close scale" is set to a high number

2024-02-06 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=480976

Bug ID: 480976
Summary: Desktop Effects Window Open/Close Animation "Scale":
Task Switcher creates enormous graphical artefacts on
screen when "Window close scale" is set to a high
number
Classification: I don't know
   Product: kde
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Neon
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: unassigned-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: fi...@tutanota.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
System Settings→Desktop Effects→Window Open/Close Animation has three options.
The "Scale" option allows the user to change the open/close scale in its menu.
The scale is 0.8 by default (i.e. opening / closing animation happens within
the bounds of the animated object: shrink to 0.8 of original size when closing,
expand from 0.8 of target size when opening) and is limited to no more than
9.99. This scale feature affects how the Task Switcher appears / disappears.

When using the Task Switcher when the close scale is set to more than 1.0,
graphical artefacts start appearing on the screen once the close animation has
finished. The larger the number, the bigger and more obvious the artefacts are.
The artefacts seem to be remnants of the animation that are still being drawn
to the screen, and they seem to only ever appear in areas of the screen that
the Task Switcher did NOT fill when it was open. They can be cleared by running
the mouse over them, opening the start menu over them, or going into the
desktop overview with Meta+Tab. They seem to flicker / respond to changes drawn
to other windows (see them flashing as the timer updates in the attached video,
for instance).

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. In Desktop Effects, set the Window Open/Close Animation to "Scale"
2. Open the "Scale" options and set "Window close scale" to more than 1.0 (3.0+
will be more obvious)
3. Select Apply and then OK in the "Scale" options.
4. Use the Task Switcher with Alt+Tab.

OBSERVED RESULT
On releasing Alt+Tab, parts of the Task Switcher's close animation continue to
be drawn to the screen. They flicker and are not the same each time they
appear, but are reproducible.

EXPECTED RESULT
The close animation ends cleanly.

Hmm, floor() is probably not appropriate here. It should at least round(), not
floor(). But maybe we can also find some way to approximate a fractional scale
factor even though GTK apps don't officially support this.

[plasmashell] [Bug 480643] Optionally align slideshow timer with the beginning of the day (sync multiple desktops)

2024-02-06 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=480643

I've applied the following patch to my plasma-workspace build, which works fine
for me. This always aligns the timers with unix epoch and makes the slideshows
shorter, depending on the time when the slideshows have started in these strict
time intervals. This fixes the desync issues when loading a desktop on various
screens/activities for the first time, restarting the slideshows, skipping
wallpapers, or when there's a random delay during the wallpaper transition
(different issue).

I don't really intend to open a pull request, because as said, I'm not familiar
with C++/Qt/QML and the plasma-workspace setup, so I wouldn't be able to easily
implement a config option for that or make other adjustments if requested.

Please have a look and see if these changes make sense to you. Thanks.

[kwin] [Bug 480582] Wine 9 Wayland cursor does not hide when holding mouse button on game world to move camera/character

Just tested Plasma 6, no difference there.

I did find one thing though, which I didn't test before. The cursor does hide
when set in-game to Software Cursor. The issue only occurs when using either
Hardware Cursor option ("FFXIV Custom" or "OS Standard". So if you don't mind
slightly higher cursor latency and are particularly bothered by the cursor
staying on screen (I'm not) this can be a workaround.

Classification: Applications
   Product: Discover

The crash log, after I installed debug symbols. Crash Handler says it's 3 stars
(useful)

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Dolphin
2. Resize it smaller until it switches to the compact view (everything should
still work fine)
3. Resize it bigger so that it tries to switch back to the expanded view

OBSERVED RESULT
At the point when Discover would switch to expanded view, it stops responding,
does not resize or redraw the window, and then crashes entirely and closes.
>From when Dolphin freezes to when it closes, there is high disk usage.

EXPECTED RESULT
Discover shows the expanded view

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS

Discover (according to Discover→About): 6.0.0
KDE Plasma Version: 6.0.0
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.0.0
Qt Version: 6.6.1

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I don't know if this is related, but if you resize the Discover window smaller
by forcing it against a screen side with the mouse / Meta+Left / Meta+Right, so
that Discover takes up half the screen, the edge of Discover touching the
screen side (left or right) will stop showing the outmost window decoration. In
Breeze Dark theme this is a 1px pale grey bar. It disappears, and the standard
darker grey window fills the space instead

I checked Orca Slicer sources and looks like it forces X11 backend for GTK due
to some issue with WxGTK:

https://github.com/SoftFever/OrcaSlicer/blob/8b1b3355e6ebf97475474661dc0516663a85798c/src/OrcaSlicer.cpp#L890

So apparently the issue is with kde-gtk-config, for some reason it sets
Gdk/WindowScalingFactor to 1 if display scaling is 175%. Let me move the bug to
kde-gtk-config package
