Yeah, this is a KWin bug. Most repaints happen in scaled logical coordinates,
and that just doesn't match the pixels on the screen.

1. It only happens on Wayland for me. Logging in with X11 (after fixing the
panels) results in no issue.
2. This issue does not happen when locking/unlocking. Only when logging in.
3. I haven't personally tried this. I can try this later though.
4. Restarting plasma via cli does not resolve this.

It's strange because if I go into edit mode, I can open the Manage
Display/Panel settings, and it shows the second panel is on the right monitor,
but it's not...

[Spectacle] [Bug 483586] New: Spectacle window no longer returns when using hotkeys?

2024-03-14 Thread Nick
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=483586

Bug ID: 483586
Summary: Spectacle window no longer returns when using hotkeys?
Classification: Applications
   Product: Spectacle
   Version: 24.02.0
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: General
  Assignee: noaha...@gmail.com
  Reporter: wannabethe...@gmail.com
CC: k...@david-redondo.de
  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 167194
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=167194=edit
Taking screenshots with buttons in the window, followed by using hotkeys.

SUMMARY

Settings:
When launching Spectacle: Use last-used capture mode
After taking a screenshot: [unchecked] Save file to default folder
Copy image to clipboard
Press screenshot key to: Take a new Screenshot

While a Spectacle window is open, pressing a hotkey combo closes the window
while taking the screenshot. But the window doesn't return after the screenshot
is taken. Clicking any of the screenshot method buttons in the application
closes the window to take the screenshot, but still brings it back afterwards.
Using a hotkey combo while a Spectacle window is not open no longer brings one
up after the screenshot is taken, but a notification does still appear. If
"After taking a screenshot: Save file to default folder" is unchecked and "Copy
image to clipboard" is selected, the only way to save the screenshot through
the notification is with annotations which is cumbersome.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Spectacle / Skip
2. Press screenshot hotkey combo (IE Meta+Print for active window)

OBSERVED RESULT
Spectacle window doesn't return/open after taking the screenshot.

EXPECTED RESULT
Spectacle window returns/opens after taking the screenshot.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: CachyOS
KDE Plasma Version: 6.0.2
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.0.0
Qt Version: 6.6.2

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Comparing to Spectacle 23.08.5 which brings the window back after using a
hotkey combo to take a screenshot while it's open. Or brings a window up after
using a screenshot combo while no Spectacle window was open.
If this was an intentional change, an option to retain the previous behavior
would be useful.

Investigated this a bit. If adding "ShouldShow=false" to the config file works,
then it's evidence of a packaging problem in the distro. In Plasma 5, we did
use the "ShouldSho"` key for this, but that was removed in Plasma 6. There is
no longer any code in the repo that checks for "ShouldShow" in the config file.
Perhaps the old KDED module is still being used?

Moving to Neon.

No, no, I definitely did :D

Your report was about Plasma 5 ;)

I just got confused by the follow-up comments saying "me too plasma 6" and
since I've already developed a bit of a Plasma 6 tunnel vision following the

This bug has been happening on my 11th Gen Intel Framework Laptop 13, same
2256x1504@150% resolution/scale as the reporter. It happens on any scaling
factor >100% except for 200%. The "corrupted" line of pixels at the bottom
appears over the mouse cursor and only seems to be updated by the launch
feedback icon, any touchpad gestures, and whenever the panel floats/unfloats.

No worries. If it works in a clean user account, we know it's caused by come

You're on openSUSE Tumbleweed, aren't you? I can't see what files are included
in which packages using the openSUSE package browser, so all I can do is
reiterate the files that you need at a minimum:

- pam_kwallet5.so (in libpam-kwallet5 on Neon)
- pam_kwallet_init (in libpam-kwallet-common on Neon)
- pam_kwallet_init.desktop (in libpam-kwallet-common on Neon)
- plasma-kwallet-pam.service (in libpam-kwallet-common on Neon)

As mentioned previously, even under kf6 the working parts here still have "5"
in them.

Hi,

Can confirm this bug. I don't have a beefy internet connection, and when it
starts, it will basically never end until I reboot my computer, which is more
than problematic.

Stopping and disabling the related service did not work. It came back on its
own after a day.

[plasmashell] [Bug 483581] New: folder view in panel: cannot open item unless cursor is moved upward first

2024-03-14 Thread S. Christian Collins
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=483581

Bug ID: 483581
Summary: folder view in panel: cannot open item unless cursor
is moved upward first
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 6.0.2
  Platform: Neon
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Folder
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org

CC: h...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: 1.0

Created attachment 167192
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=167192=edit
video showing the bug

SUMMARY
I have the folder view widget on my plasma panel for quick access to
commonly-used documents. Since the upgrade to Plasma 6, items in the list will
only be highlighted and launchable if I first move the mouse cursor in an
upward direction. If the mouse moves downward instead, no items on the list
will be highlighted or launchable. I have attached a video showing the bug.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Add "Folder View" widget to the panel and make sure it is pointing to a
folder that contains more than one file.
2. Click to open the widget and move your mouse cursor up and down across the
folder's contents.

OBSERVED RESULT
Files are only highlighted when moving the cursor up.

EXPECTED RESULT
Files should be highlighted regardless of cursor trajectory.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux: KDE neon 6.0 User Edition
KDE Plasma Version: 6.0.2
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.0.0
Qt Version: 6.6.2

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Repro'd in X11 and Wayland on three separate KDE neon installs, including one
Virtualbox install.

No worries, helping to make plasma better is never a problem :)

So, your questions
1. X11 does not have this issue. Both panels are on their respective monitor.
2. Screen locking has no effect, everything stays where it is. This is also
true for going into and coming back from sleep
3. I'm not sure what you mean here, but I have a XFX SWFT MERC 6900 XT. The
screens both use DP.

Also while talking about hardware: Both screens are the same, as in the same
model.

What exact icon theme and plasma theme are you using? Are they both Breeze
Dark, or is the icon theme just Breeze?

And what color scheme are you using? Breeze Light, Breeze Dark, or something
else?

Sorry, didn't mean to create confusion here.

I've read your bug report again and indeed the issue didn't appear after a 5->6

Although some other comments in your bug report experienced this on that
upgrade path.

This is weird...

[kwin] [Bug 483579] New: Semi-random crash after switching focus to fullscreen first-person game running under Xwayland.

2024-03-14 Thread Arttu
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=483579

Bug ID: 483579
Summary: Semi-random crash after switching focus to fullscreen
first-person game running under Xwayland.
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: 6.0.2
  Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: wayland-generic
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: arttucas...@protonmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
After alt-tabbing to any(?) game running in Fullscreen and under Xwayland that
locks the mouse for camera control (and sometimes also moving the mouse quickly
after) sometimes crashes Kwin.

The crash seems to happen more consistently after alt-tabbing away during a
loading screen and then alt-tabbing back in after the game has loaded.

This has occured in Sons of the Forest, Lethal Company (both running via
Proton) and Portal 2 (native).

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Launch any first-person game with Xwayland
2. Switch focus to another application during a loading screen without pausing
the game.
3. Switch focus back and quickly move the mouse in any direction.
4. kwin_wayland may crash after.

OBSERVED RESULT
kwin_wayland crashes and is automatically restarted.

EXPECTED RESULT
kwin_wayland doesn't crash.

I haven't upgraded to plasma 6; I'm having and always have had this issue on
Plasma 5.
On Manjaro, and I think I had it on OpenSUSE TW too before I switched to
Manjaro.
I'm using X11.

Yes, really. Although there was some kind of caveat, IIRC you had to destroy
the wallet your distro created if the name didn't match a specific one
(`kdewallet`, maybe?).

EDIT: here is the explanation (as usual via the excellent arch wiki):

This is starting to sound a lot like Bug 483188. Do you by any chance have

Also, if yo make your panel be alwayws visible, do the symptoms start to look
more like what's being reported in Bug 483188?

[kwin] [Bug 483401] Java applications start with wrong scaling on mixed scale monitors

Ok, I'm pretty sure I know what's going on here: when you use the default
"Apply scaling themselves" feature, KWin is relying on apps to have sane X11
digh DPI behavior. Evidently these apps don't, unfortunately. The fact that you
can configure the scale in the apps on a per-app basis is a dead giveaway.
Obviously this won't work in a mixed-DPI screen setup since the scale you set
for an app that makes it look good on one screen won't be correct on the other
screen. I have a feeling the apps are trying to be smart and fighting the
system, outsmarting themselves in the process, and this is what accounts for
the erratic results.

Really? On Manjaro with Plasma 5, that NEVER worked for me. I have always had
the same kwallet password as my user's password, and it would still prompt me
every time. The only way I got rid of the annoying prompt was to set an empty
password for the wallet.

Hello,

sorry to chime in.

Wondering if this issue is the root cause of:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=480151

Several upgrading users (Plasma 5 -> 6), me included, are facing this annoying
issue for which we have to re-enter our kwallet's pwd at every boot just to
have our OS connect to the WiFi network.

Maybe it would be good to merge these tickets into one, and also provide a
workaround (if possible at all) while the packaging problem gets sorted out.

Thanks a lot in advance! :)

SUMMARY

The file search doesn't seem to work for me. For some reason, it doesn't ever
list any files, not even in seemingly obvious cases.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

1. See attached video. I entered some existing folder with an obviously
existing file (not even in a subfolder), opened the search, typed a partial
match for that file's name, and it gives me zero results.

OBSERVED RESULT

See video!

EXPECTED RESULT

Search lists the obvious results at least.

Chiming in.

Updated today my opensuse Tumbleweed install and now I have the same problem.

Running 6.0.1.

I was running Wayland before the upgrade, and am running Wayland now.

Now after the upgrade at every boot I get a popup saying that kded6 requires
wallet access and I have to type my wallet password just in order to connect to
my home WiFi. The wallet pwd is the same as my user's. With Plasma 5 this was
the trick to avoid having to re-type it, as the wallet would auto-unlock if the
pwds matched.

Has something changed around this?

Thanks

TestFitsData::testComputeHFR(NGC4535-3-FOCUS) fails:

FAIL! : TestFitsData::testComputeHFR(NGC4535-3-FOCUS) Compared values are not
the same
   Actual   (d->getDetectedStars()): 125
   Expected (NSTARS) : 126
   Loc:
[/home/buildozer/aports/testing/kstars/src/kstars-2.6.9/Tests/fitsviewer/testfitsdata.cpp(91)]

(Apparently the 3.6.9 source was uploaded as 2.6.9)

Other tests pass. It also passes on our CI infra, which runs on an aarch64
virtual machine, so it may be hardware / CPU related. Our builder has an Ampere
Altra CPU.

~/.config/plasmashellrc and ~/.config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc,
specifically. Remember to scrub out any personal information!

I also have a few more questions for you, if you aren't sick of me already:

1. Does it also happen on X11, or only on Wayland?
2. Does it also happen if you lock the screen with Meta+L and then unlock, or
is it only on login?
3. What GPU are these screens plugged into?

Thanks for the bug report. A few questions:

1. Does it also happen on X11, or only on Wayland?
2. Does it also happen if you lock the screen with Meta+L and then unlock, or
only on screen sleep/wake?
3. If you create a new clean user account and replicate by hand the same panel
setup there, does the bug still happen? Or no?
4. What GPU are these screens plugged into?

Fix the "working..." overlay for item installation

The bug [431568](https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=431568) this fixes does
not happen anymore.
Instead it breaks the working overlay.

You can use xprop command:
1- open your system settings and terminal
2- execute xprop
3- move your mouse into the system settings app
4- see if your cursor is changing to plus(+) sign
5- if its changing to plus (+) sign then this means your application is running
under xwayland
