I've had the exact same thing happen when I tried opening KSystemLog through
GUI, where a "KDE su" window pops up asking for the root password, and failing
with the same error message. It was fine before Plasma 6

I retract the above statement. Upon additional testing, I was able to reproduce
the XIVLauncher / Final Fantasy XIV input bug again under Arch Linux and
kwin-6.0.2-3. This attempt was using the default XIVLauncher settings.

[dolphin] [Bug 483879] New: Dolphin file groupings does not convert modified time to user's local timezone

2024-03-17 Thread FirstAirBender
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=483879

Bug ID: 483879
Summary: Dolphin file groupings does not convert modified time
to user's local timezone
Classification: Applications
   Product: dolphin
   Version: 24.02.0
  Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: view-engine: general
  Assignee: dolphin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: noblech...@web.de
CC: kfm-de...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
***
I noticed that in the group view, dolphin shows some files as appearing in the
group corresponding to the next day. Upon observing the file stat in Dolphin,
it appears that the modified time is not taking into account the user's
timezone, and is just using UTC time.
***

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create a file at a time when UTC at your timezone will be in the next day
2. Toggle the View -> Show in Groups, in Dolphin
3. Observe that the file appears to be showing up in the group for the next day

OBSERVED RESULT
File is showing up in the Monday Group

EXPECTED RESULT
File should be showing in the Today (Sunday) group

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: kernel version 6.7.9-arch1-1
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 6.0.2

Hm. I see that SDL has a fallback called SDL_DBus_ScreensaverTickle(), which
calls org.freedesktop.ScreenSaver with SimulateUserActivity. If for some reason
this gets called, it would do the same thing as a real or emulated key press.

Could you have a look with `dbus-monitor` to observe what actually gets called
by your program?

[dolphin] [Bug 477526] NFS Mounts with all_squash,root_squash,anonuid=0,anongid=0 not able to modify files anymore

This is still broken after the recent KIO merge request, all files belonging to
root on the NFS share still show greyed out options in dolphin, despite me
technically being allowed to modify the files if I use CLI. Drag and dropping
into the folder still works too, despite dolphin not letting me modify files in
other ways. I also can't modify files owned by root if I use kio-admin, might
be related.

I'm now on 6.0.2 and kernel 6.7.9 and not having the issue. Maybe it was 6.0.1
or it was the lower kernel version or both. Or intermittent and I'll see if it
stays good after some more restarts.

[Powerdevil] [Bug 479195] Displays should be able to suspend if the session is manually locked, even when inhibited

2024-03-17 Thread Eevee
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=479195

Eevee changed:

   What|Removed |Added

 Resolution|WAITINGFORINFO |---

That's, uh, odd.

I tried the following:

- run `xinput test 9` in one terminal
- run `love` in another terminal (no game loaded, just an SDL window, so, about
as small a test as I can get without building something)
- run `sleep 10; xset dpms force suspend` in a third terminal
- quickly lock the screen and sit back

My screen reliably turns off, then back on. I don't see anything that looks
like spurious keyboard input.

Poring over source code, LÖVE simply calls SDL_DisableScreenSaver(), which is
implemented here for X:
https://github.com/libsdl-org/SDL/blob/12245e4c756eb964ecdf4a528c36aab6f971baf5/src/video/x11/SDL_x11events.c#L2023

If built with dbus support, which seems to be the default, then it appears to
use the freedesktop interface:
https://github.com/libsdl-org/SDL/blob/main/src/core/linux/SDL_dbus.c#L428
Otherwise it falls back to XScreenSaverSuspend, which looks like it's supposed
to be called on a timer.

VLC also has two implementations: one that shells out to `xdg-screensaver
reset`:
https://github.com/videolan/vlc/blob/f7bb59d9f51cc10b25ff86d34a3eff744e60c46e/modules/misc/inhibit/xdg.c#L33
And one using dbus, which at a glance is at least somewhat similar to the SDL
implementation:
https://github.com/videolan/vlc/blob/f7bb59d9f51cc10b25ff86d34a3eff744e60c46e/modules/misc/inhibit/dbus.c#L239

So I have no idea what's going on here. Both applications seem to do the
correct thing: try DBus, and if that doesn't work, fall back to an X interface.
If KDE's power management works as you describe then I'd expect both
approaches to have the same results?

[kwin] [Bug 483876] New: Spectacle takes blurry screenshots depending on the window position on Wayland with 1.5 fractional scale

2024-03-17 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=483876

Bug ID: 483876
Summary: Spectacle takes blurry screenshots depending on the
window position on Wayland with 1.5 fractional scale
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: 6.0.2
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: compositing
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: zvova7...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY:
I was trying to figure out why Spectacle is getting blurred screenshots and
discovered an interesting problem, and now Spectacle is not guilty. Apparently,
KWin has some rounding-related issues when it creates an image from the surface
(window). It seems that when the window position can't be divided by the scale
factor into an integer value, KWin returns a little bit blurred screenshot,
which Spectacle saves as it comes. Maybe it also depends on the window size,
but I'm not sure.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1. Set the scale factor to 1.5.
2. Open some window, for example Konsole.
3. Put it at the 0x0 coordinates (top-left corner). Also, for just in case,
ensure that the current window size can be divided by 1.5 without problems.
4. Take a screenshot and save it as a file.
5. Then move this window to somewhere to achieve an XY value that can't be
divided by 1.5.
6. Take another screenshot and save it as a file.
7. Open it in GIMP and compare font glyphs.

OBSERVED RESULT
The screenshot is blurred

EXPECTED RESULT
Crystal clear screenshot whatever coordinates it was

[systemsettings] [Bug 483875] New: Unable to scroll up in Desktop Effects KCM on touch-only system with no mouse connected.

2024-03-17 Thread Tim Carr
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=483875

Bug ID: 483875
Summary: Unable to scroll up in Desktop Effects KCM on
touch-only system with no mouse connected.
Classification: Applications
   Product: systemsettings
   Version: 6.0.2
  Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: kcm_kwineffects
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: t...@timcarr.me
CC: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
When using a system with a touchscreen, but no mouse connected, using a finger
to scroll down the page of desktop effects scrolls faster than it should, and
it's impossible to scroll back up - the page properly drags up, but once you
remove your finger the page springs back down past where it was. Once you plug
in a mouse the problem corrects itself, and continues to work even after the
mouse has been disconnected again - until closing and re-launching System
Settings.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Launch System Settings on a system with only a touch screen, and no pointing
device connected.
2. Navigate to Desktop Effects page
3. Scroll the list using the touch screen.

OBSERVED RESULT
Scroll position bounces around erratically, always ending up scrolled further
down than expected, and never allowing the list to be scrolled back up.

EXPECTED RESULT
View scrolls like every other scroll area.

Sorry this one is probably going to be difficult to reproduce and test,
considering most devices like laptops and SteamDecks with touchscreens have
built-in pointing devices that can't be easily disconnected. And I'm (so far)
only able to reproduce this if none of those are connected. Feel free to let me
know if there is anything I can do to help, since I do have access to
appropriate hardware.

Today I also tested on BigLinux Unstable, Manjaro Testing and KDE Neon Stable,
none of them have thumbnails of image files that are not 8 bit

Error with Png 16 bit, Avif 10 and 12 bit, webp in general is not generating
thumbnail either.

The error is not limited to dolphin, it is also not working on the plasma
wallpaper selection screen, my wallpapers are in tiff 10bit, only a blank
screen appears, if you click it changes the wallpaper on the plasma and it
works normally, just the selection screen which should use the same thumbnail
system as dolphin, I suspect the problem is with the kio extras.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I have Nvidia driver .run installed manually. Version 550.54.14 (I have a GTX
1070).
DKMS is installed and I say yes to DKMS in the driver installation. I also say
yes to rebuild filesystem.
I put in kernel parameters the options: nvidia-drm.modeset=1 fbdev=1

After a lot of days, my surprise is that making a new user (testing user) can
enter good in Plasma Wayland (all desktop by default).
But if I try enter with my user in Plasma Wayland, again the black screen. The
only form of exit is do Ctrl+Alt+F1 to change to a tty, Ctrl+Alt+F2 to return
to black screen and kill it with Ctrl+Alt+Backspace x2. With this spawns again
sddm and I can log in Plasma X11 only.

If more information is needed, please tell me. I am a newbie generating bug
reports and I don't know how to do the debug process.

Best regards

Looks like it fails to either run the 7z process or parse its CLI output. Does
snap allow a process to spawn another process?

Anyway, I've been working to add support for 7z archives in the libarchive
plugin: https://invent.kde.org/utilities/ark/-/merge_requests/238

Which means that Ark will be able to create and extract 7z archives even
without any 7z binary installed. Testers are welcome :)

I'm able to reproduce this, but only seems to be with certain windows, at
certain times, Dolphin and Firefox consistently show a gap, System Settings,
KInfoCenter, and Konsole are always showing correctly without a gap for me.
After logging out, and back in again after changing the setting, Kate goes from
having a gap, to showing correctly, but Dolphin and Firefox still have the gap.

2024-03-17 Thread Dashon
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=480925

I seem to have a similar problem. It doesn't happen frequently, but usually I'm
not doing anything. I remember coming back from getting a drink and both
monitors went black and firefox crash handler popped up. All of the Qt apps
survived though, so yay for that. I tried looking for a cordump with
coredumpctl, but it says unavailable for kwin. Apps like dolphin or kate are
available, but not kwin_wayland. I tried attaching to the process, but ran into
some kind of permission issue. I'm unsure of how to get any usable logs. Please
advise on how to do so.

SUMMARY
When I click the launcher for spectacle, nothing happens. If I try to launch
Spectacle from within Konsole, it just immediately returns:

[s@desktop1 ~]$ spectacle
[s@desktop1 ~]$

I tried to generate a back trace, but gdb ends with "No stack." I attached a
copy of what I am seeing to this bug report.

I am able to reproduce this issue on two systems with extremely different
hardware:

1. AMD CPU, nvidia GPU, X11
2. Intel CPU, Intel iGPU, Wayland

Let me know if any more information is required.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Try to launch Spectacle.

OBSERVED RESULT
Nothing happens.

EXPECTED RESULT
Spectacle should open.

Thank you Jon. Confirming! I'm grateful that you've attached the video, it save
time.

For the record:
- Step 8 is the main reason - the unsaved dependent object (i.e. form) causes
the issue
- Current workaround is to save the dependent objects before saving changes in
the main object (i.e. table)

[kscreenlocker] [Bug 483130] Unlocking with fingerprint leads to other PAM session authentication failure

2024-03-17 Thread Charitakis Yannis
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=483130

Charitakis Yannis changed:

   What|Removed |Added

 CC||kde-yan...@ych.gr

Hello all,

After installing and configuring the fingerprint sensor, I had the same issue
as above.
But I think I have found a workaround.

Please note however that I am far from an expert and I maybe wrong.

I am on EndeavourOS using KDE Plasma 6.0.2, linux 6.6.22-1-lts on a thinkpad
X270.

Based on man pam_fprintd:
```
LIMITATIONS
The  PAM stack is by design a serialised authentication, so it is not possible
for pam_fprintd to allow authentication through passwords and
fingerprints at the same time.  It is up to the application using the PAM
services to implement separate PAM processes and run separate  authentication
stacks  separately. This is the way multiple authentication methods are made
available to users of gdm for example.
```
Since kscreenlocker does permit both password and finderprint at the same time,
I believe this is what it does.
That is, it uses two separate PAM processes:
One, let's call it password PAM process, is using the /etc/pam.d/kde
configuration.
The other, let's call it fingerprint PAM process, using the
/etc/pam.d/kde-fingerprint configuration.

kscreenlocker will unlock if any of the two above PAM processes succeeds.
The other however will fail.

When using the password PAM process, succesful login will clear the previous
faillock incidents.
This is what it happens by observing the contents of the original
/etc/pam.d/kde.

The fingerprint PAM process though, differs.
Unfortunately I didn't keep the original /etc/pam.d/kde-fingerprint, but the
updated
seems to work correctly:

[root@gordon pam.d]# cat kde-fingerprint
#%PAM-1.0

auth requiredpam_shells.so
auth requisite pam_nologin.so
auth requisite pam_faillock.so preauth # <--- I
think I added this line
-auth requiredpam_fprintd.so
auth optionalpam_permit.so
auth requiredpam_env.so
auth requiredpam_faillock.so authsucc # <--- I
think I added this line

account requisite pam_faillock.so preauth # <---
Surely added this line
accountinclude system-local-login
account requiredpam_faillock.so authsucc # <---
Surely added this line

password requiredpam_deny.so

sessioninclude system-local-login
[root@gordon pam.d]#

The above change was based on the following note from pam_faillock:
[...] Due to complications in the way the PAM stack can be configured it is
also possible to call pam_faillock as an account module. In such configuration
the module must be also called in the preauth stage.[...]

Using the above configuration and unlocking multiple times using the
fingerprint works ok.
Still though, there is a single faillock incident after each try, but they do
not accumulate.
Faillock is being reset by the fingerprint PAM process and just after reset the
password PAM process registers a failed incident.

[KEXI] [Bug 483868] New: Error message when saving multiple tabs with unsaved changes

2024-03-17 Thread Jon
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=483868

Bug ID: 483868
Summary: Error message when saving multiple tabs with unsaved
changes
Classification: Applications
   Product: KEXI
   Version: 3.2.0
  Platform: Kubuntu
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: General
  Assignee: kexi-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: j_hi6...@icloud.com

  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 167389
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=167389=edit
Please see attached video for demonstration of bug.

SUMMARY
If user has performed design changes on a form, and then performs changes on a
table it's using, Kexi will warn user that the form changes are unsaved, and
present an option to save them before continuing. When this option is accepted,
though, Kexi presents user with an error message saying that it could not save
the form object.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create new blank database.
2. Create a new table, give it a primary key, and fill another field with some
data. Save but do not close.
3. Create a new form. It should be in its own tab next to the tab for the
table.
4. Set form's Data Source to the table you just made.
5. Drop a text box into the form's design. Set its widget data source to a
field in your table.
6. Save form.
7. Make any change to the form's design, so that an asterisk appears next to
the object name in its tab.
8. Without saving the form, go back to the table tab.
9. Make any change to the table, such as a field's datatype, or to one of the
fields' properties.
10. Click Save.
11. Click Close Windows & Save.
12. Click Save.

OBSERVED RESULT
Error message received saying "Saving '[object name]' object failed."

EXPECTED RESULT
Successful save of both open tabs/objects, or, if the table change is not
allowed, a message describing steps to take.

[kde] [Bug 483832] Text not showing in browsers with Plasma 6

2024-03-17 Thread Federico Kereki
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=483832

I managed to solve the problem.

1. Seeing that the display was correct in OpenBox, I tried creating a new user
and logging with it; the browsers displayed tabs correctly.

2. Thinking that the problem could be in the browsers' configuration, I went
back to me first user, removed the configuration (by renaming the ~/.cache
corresponding directories) and tried the browsers again; still failing.

3. Thinking that the difference could be in KDE's configuration, I eventually
thought of font handling. The standard font I was using was "ATKINSON
HYPERLEGIBLE". I changed that font in the Systems Settings, and the browsers
started displaying text correctly!

KDE can use that font, but somehow Chromium/Brave cannot -- I don't know
where's the issue or whose component's fault it is, but selecting a different
font was the solution.

FYI - Setting the top panel alignment to "left" on my main monitor and my
secondary monitor to "center" results in the top panels maintaining position
after a logout/login for me.

Please provide more information. Which Qt version do you use on which desktop?
We need at least a debug log from the terminal or a GDB backtrace. The problem
cannot be reproduced here under Qt-6 and KF-6.

Another note, the development of digiKam-8.4.0 has just started, we will test
things in the Gitlab repository, which we will eventually undo, this developer
version is not intended for productive use.

I'm also experiencing this issue with kwin_x11 since 6.0.0, still present in
6.0.2.

This is probably related to screenlocker and nvidia gpu. As soon as the session
is locked (either with a shortcut Meta+L or due to inactivity), kwin_x11 cpu
usage jumps up to 60%-80% of one core. I have another laptop with exactly the
same software versions but an AMD gpu and the issue does not reproduce there.

I've tried different screenlocker configurations: clock visible on and off,
wallpaper image, plain color, slideshow, etc., and the problem persists with
any configuration, with just the laptop display and with one or two external
displays, even when the displays are turned off due to the energy savings
profile. I also tried disabling compositing (shit+alt+F12) before locking the
session but didn't have any effect.

I usually leave the laptop running overnight, and when I get back in the
morning the fans are spinning fast, after unlocking the session cpu usage goes
back to normal and fans get quiet again. I had to disable locking the screen
for this reason, and just leave dpms to turn off the monitors after some time
but with the session unlocked.

One thing I noticed is that is not possible to remove the focus from the
password textbox, could it be that the cursor blinking is causing some kind of
re-rendering even when the screen is blank and the displays are turned off?
