[kwin] [Bug 484903] New: Windows are not shown after unplugging external monitor

2024-04-01 Thread Jiri Slaby
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=484903

Bug ID: 484903
Summary: Windows are not shown after unplugging external
monitor
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: 6.0.2
  Platform: openSUSE
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: multi-screen
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: jirisl...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
When I unplug an external monitor where I have konsoles open, the konsoles look
like they are still on the second monitor. That is, I can activate/minimize
them through the task panel, but they are not shown anywhere.

This is new in plasma 6. It used to work fine with 5.

Also for example Thunderbird is moved to the primary monitor properly.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Plug in external monitor and let it extend the workspace (i.e. not clone)
2. Move there some konsoles
3. Unplug the monitor

OBSERVED RESULT
konsoles are not visible.

EXPECTED RESULT
konsole should be visible.

I created a report on Picom as well¹, and with a hint from the amazing Picom
maintainer I found out that the commit that introduced regression is:

efc267076 "Only have minimum 50ms timer if using PlatformXcb"

It's an old commit, however due to Spectacle releases being tied to KDE commits
from that timespan basically have never been tested by users (i.e. because it's
a KDE6 commit whereas users couldn't use that version).

I'm writing a fix. I don't know yet how to handle it best; I looked through the
surrounding code and I think best way would be to add a test for whether `kwin`
is the compositor in use. However I haven't found so far any detection code
around that, so maybe the solution will come down to just reverting the commit.

Well, so we will just have to live with it. Maybe we don't close the bug but
let it open for review in future if maybe things will change a bit?

[kwin] [Bug 484902] New: Regression: "Switch to Screen" shortcuts stopped working after upgrade to Plasma 6.0

2024-04-01 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=484902

Bug ID: 484902
Summary: Regression: "Switch to Screen" shortcuts stopped
working after upgrade to Plasma 6.0
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: 6.0.3
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: multi-screen
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: g...@section9.follonica.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
After upgrading to Plasma 6.0, "Switch to Screen" shortcuts stopped working.
Although this seems to be intentional as per
https://invent.kde.org/plasma/kwin/-/merge_requests/5102, I find the way that
the setting "active screen follows mouse" has been dropped and forcibly enabled
to be unfair to the user.
I have been using switch to screen shortcuts since the inception of Plasma 5.0
and after upgrading to Plasma 6.0 discovered that this functionality got
removed. Apparently there has been some consensus "to drop "active mouse
screen" option and stick with last interacted screen approach instead" in the
late Plasma 5.0 times but I have not been able to find any discussion about the
reasoning that brought to the demise of this functionality.

I can't believe that the developers of KDE Plasma, whose main focus has always
been on configurability, unconditionally dropped such a feature in front of old
time users just to alleviate complaints from users who inadvertently disabled
"active screen follows mouse" or that were unaware of its consequences. If this
is actually the case, then IMHO there is something wrong with the way that this
setting has been implemented in the UI or the lack of a clear warning about its
consequences and not something wrong with the feature itself as I find the
ability to have the screen focus independent from the mouse a key feature for
multi-screen workstations and have always been fond of it.

Take i.e. multiple Konsole windows (but obviously it can be any application)
open on different sceens. With "Active Screen Follows Mouse" disabled,
"Separate Sreen Focus" enabled and "Switch To screen" shortcuts configured you
can quickly switch between multiple Konsole windows on different screens
without having to resort to the task switcher and hence without having to
remember how many times to type TAB in alt+tab to switch to that particular
konsole window you were on before. You just type the shortcut corresponding to
the screen that particular window is on. This is especially useful when you
have three or more monitors and when you can interact with application windows
without the mouse. These can be Konsole windows, browser windows with Vivium
extension enabled or whatever.

Luckily the option itself has not been dropped, so adding "ActiveMouseScreen=0"
in [Windows] group in kwinrc actually re-enables "Switch to Screen" shortcuts
but I am afraid that this feature will be definitely dropped in Plasma 6.1. I
really hope not so.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. In Window Management kcm, under Window Behavior, select "Separate Sreen
Focus"
2. In Shortcuts kcm, under KWin, add Meta+F2 as a shortcut to "Switch to Screen
1" to actually switch to your second monitor.
3. Press Meta+F2

OBSERVED RESULT
The focus will not be switched to your second monitor and a popup appears: "The
window manager is configured to consider the screen with the mouse on it as
active one.
Therefore it is not possible to switch to a screen explicitly. "

EXPECTED RESULT
The focus should be switched to "Screen 1".

[Discover] [Bug 484901] New: Indicate whether reboot is needed in system tray icon

2024-04-01 Thread tqd8
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=484901

Bug ID: 484901
Summary: Indicate whether reboot is needed in system tray icon
Classification: Applications
   Product: Discover
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: unspecified
OS: Unspecified
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Notifier
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: tempqd...@mailinator.com
CC: aleix...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

Currently, you can't tell from the tray icon whether a restart is needed for
the available updates. The icon always shows a circular arrow surrounding the
big up-arrow. This circular arrow iconography is used in the "reboot system"
icon, so it's a bit conflated here.

What if we split it into two icons:
* Updates available: just an up-arrow (or up-arrow with closed circle
surrounding it)
* Updates available and reboot required: up-arrow with circular arrow
surrounding it

That way, you can tell at a glance whether a restart is needed, and you can
infer whether changes will take effect immediately or only after restart,
increasing predictability in behavior. This info may also be important to users
when deciding whether to update right away or wait until later.

This is still an issue for me in 6.0.3. Same repro steps as above. My screens
(2x DisplayPort, 1x HDMI) are set to 100% brightness; after the screens are
turned off due to inactivity, they will be at some brightness <100% after being
turned back on.

Can confirm this issue persists in 5.27.11. Full system info -
Operating System: Fedora Linux 39
KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.11
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.115.0
Qt Version: 5.15.12
Kernel Version: 6.7.10-200.fc39.x86_64 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland

Memory: 47.0 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti/PCIe/SSE2
Manufacturer: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.

Are there any other solutions beside the workaround of "disabling preview"?

[krita] [Bug 483687] [Windows] [Since 4.3.0beta1] Canvas shortcuts break when other applications try steal focus or listen to global shortcuts

2024-04-01 Thread Tyson Tan
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=483687

To sum the important new findings up:

1) Something happened between Krita 4.2.9 and 4.3.0beta1 caused this issue.
2) Or maybe something happened between Qt 5.12.7 and 5.12.8 caused it.
3) This is not China specific.
4) Changing Krita's workspace restores Canvas Shortcuts temporarily.

Therefore, I think this is indeed a Krita problem.

Maybe since 4.3.0beta1, Krita 's canvas focus restore mechanism has been
broken.

I also traced back this issue to a Krita-Artist forum post:
https://krita-artists.org/t/4-3-beta-1-certain-keyboard-shortcuts-not-working/7027/9

This user is not Chinese, so this issue is not China specific.

And the post is 4.3.0beta1 related.

Additionally, when Krita's Canvas Shortcuts are broken:

Possibly because it's also a Canvas Shortcut?

On another note, I've also discovered a workaround inside Krita.

Whenever Krita lost its Canvas Shortcuts:

1) Click "Choose Workspace" button on the right of Krita's toolbar.
2) Change to another Workspace and back.
3) Krita's Canvas shortcuts is restored temporarily.

However, if the upper mentioned 3rd party apps trigger the issue again, Krita
will lose its Canvas Shortcuts again.

Based on merely reading the code, this still seems to apply to Plasma 6.0, at
least up to 6.0.3. Assuming that the "lcd" match was put there for a good
reason (prior work in Bug 399646 / commit
https://invent.kde.org/plasma/powerdevil/-/commit/401e3ed8999e22d5653fac9cb3d78a638c742825)
then I'm not sure what a "generic" fix would look like. Apart from the fix
that's planned for the Linux kernel but will apparently still take a good while
to actually arrive.

An obvious solution would be to exclude known devices such as this G15 from the
list of matches, but where could we get a list of "bad matches" to ignore?

Weixin PC Client (微信 PC 客户端):
https://weixin.qq.com/
https://pc.weixin.qq.com/

Weixin PC Client appears to be Electron based.

The following behaviors break Krita's canvas shortcuts:

1) The Login of Weixin PC Client bringing up its main window above other apps.
2) The chat dialogue has an "Emotion" button. Clicking this icon to open the
Emotion GIF list.
3) Clicking "Mini Programs (小程序)" icon on its Left sidebar opens a special
dialogue window.
4) Clicking "Channels (视频号)" icon on its Left sidebar opens a special dialogue
window.

There is no known workaround for Weixin except avoiding the actions above.

The Starting up, Login Sequence, New Message Notifications seemed to break
Krita's canvas shortcuts.

After turning off all of Dingtalk's global hotkeys, I was unable to reproduce
this issue anymore.

Hi, could you confirm if this is still an issue with Plasma 6.0.1 or higher?
The original 6.0.0 release was missing this commit:

[kwin] [Bug 484899] New: Dual Monitor HDR causes at least one screen to be washed out (HDR over SDR output)

2024-04-01 Thread evea
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=484899

Bug ID: 484899
Summary: Dual Monitor HDR causes at least one screen to be
washed out (HDR over SDR output)
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: 6.0.3
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: wayland-generic
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: kde@sbox.click
  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 168042
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=168042=edit
Monitor input information with both displays set to HDR enabled

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Connect two HDR monitors (in my case over two DP1.4a -> HDMI 2.1 Adapters,
due to amdgpu limitations)
2. Enable HDR on both

OBSERVED RESULT
At least one output will have washed out colors, the same way an HDR video
looks when you play it on an SDR screen without tone mapping.

Sometimes I also got a pure black screen.

[krita] [Bug 483687] [Windows] [Since 4.3.0beta1] Canvas shortcuts break when other applications try steal focus or listen to global shortcuts

2024-04-01 Thread Tyson Tan
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=483687

To add to my discovery in Comment 3:

In my initial report Description and Comment 1 I said I was only able to
reproduce the issue with Sogou Pinyin Input Method. This turned out to be
inaccurate.

In reality, almost every popular Instant Messaging app in China was affected.
This includes:

1) QQ (the old 9.7.x branch)
2) Dingtalk
3) Weixin

These apps require Chinese ID to register an account, so it's not practical for
the Krita team to test them. I will include what triggered the issue in these
apps below.

[krita] [Bug 483687] [Windows] [Since 4.3.0beta1] Canvas shortcuts break when other applications try steal focus or listen to global shortcuts

2024-04-01 Thread Tyson Tan
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=483687

After more investigation, I discovered some important clues that point to
Krita/Qt.

1) Krita 4.2.9 was unaffected by this bug.
2) The problem started to happen since 4.3.0beta1.
3) I tested this personally, using binaries from KDE Attic:
https://download.kde.org/Attic/krita/

Krita 4.3 Release Notes:
https://krita.org/en/release-notes/krita-4-3-release-notes/

Qt version difference:
Krita 4.2.9 uses Qt 5.12.7.
Krita 4.3.0beta1 uses Qt 5.12.8

Qt 5.12.8 Release Notes:
https://www.qt.io/blog/qt-5.12.8-released

This is an intended change with Plasma 6.0. The rationale was that if you're
not running on battery, there is not much need to knowing how much you have
left. And we want to keep the system tray clear with only items that need your
permanent attention or interaction. If you want to always see your battery
status even when plugged in, you can set the applet to Always shown in the
system tray configuration.

SUMMARY
When people searching things in Kickoff, they are more likely to search
applications, instead of browser bookmarks

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Kickoff launcher
2. Search "about"
3. See the search result

OBSERVED RESULT
A lot of bookmarks and files appear first. kinfocenter (About System) is very
hard to find, you have to scroll down several times.

EXPECTED RESULT
Search result should be grouped, I suggested showing search result in such
order:

1. applications (yeah, because it is an application launcher!)
2. files
3. bookmarks and browser history (usually users search bookmarks or history in
browser)

Git commit 861f3cfb85ca324f7b26baab287c6af758a0ba2b by Nicolas Fella.
Committed on 01/04/2024 at 23:59.
Pushed by nicolasfella into branch 'Plasma/6.0'.

[applets/icon] Delay deleting the open with menu

The menu is parent to the open actions, which are added as contexual actions to
the applet

The Applet dtor accesses these actions, so by deleting the menu (and thus the
actions) it will access dangling pointers

To avoid that delete the menu later

[applets/icon] Delay deleting the open with menu

The menu is parent to the open actions, which are added as contexual actions to
the applet

The Applet dtor accesses these actions, so by deleting the menu (and thus the
actions) it will access dangling pointers

To avoid that delete the menu later

I've been testing floating panels since this morning, and so far I haven't seen
the issue occur. It would make sense to me if this is the issue, since I
haven't heard about this issue from anyone else (except for zxq5). Most people
probably just leave the floating panels on by default, and therefore never
encounter a problem.

Still, its only been hours so I will report back if anything changes.

> But this problem is not with very large images. I have images in my library,

When we talk about "size" here, we don't mean "file size" - we mean "image
size" i.e. how much memory it takes to hold the uncompressed pixels of the
image. You have to remember that image file formats are usually highly
composed. A 6MB JPEG image is quite a large file and probably contains a file
with more than 100 megapixels.

> And GIMP does not show the warning, it just opens it.

GIMP has a higher limit (I think 400MP or something like that) and when it
encounters it, it will show a dialog box and will let you override the limit.

[konsole] [Bug 484890] URL hint numbering has offset

2024-04-01 Thread Frank Steinmetzger
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=484890

Addendum with a different observation. I just viewed a message in mutt and
wanted to open an address from the message. This time the numbering started at
1, but the offset was 2. In detail:

The mutt sidebar showed two local paths at the left edge (like
/var/spool/mail), which got the hints 1 and 2. And then there is one URL in the
displayed mail, labelled 3. But I need to press Ctrl+1 to open it. At first I
thought this happens because the URL appears a few lines above the two paths.
So I mocked it in an editor and moved the URL around, and I still had to press
Ctrl+1 when the URL was below the paths. Are local paths perhaps skipped?

Redundant though it may be, we let the user do it, and in that case, it does
nothing. So that's clearly a bug.

Removing the ability to do it is one path to fixing the issue, but I don't
actually see a problem with making it possible. Sometimes it's good to have
multiple ways to accomplish something in the interest of increasing
discoverability of the feature.

Kirigami.Icon is blurry when used as a CompactRepresentation in a plasmoid.
When changing the height/width of the panel, the icon becomes clear again (but
only until plasmashell is restarted.
At the same time, KSvg.SvgItem displayed normally.
In the screenshot there is a radio icon from the theme (Kirigami.Icon) and a
translator icon from local URL (KSvg.SvgItem).
