I'm experiencing the same with plasma 6.0.4 on arch.
Killing and restarting the plasmashell fixes the slider and a possibly related
bug where video playback and games would not inhibit sleep/screensaving.

[digikam] [Bug 485992] New: Face recognition, small part or half face

2024-04-22 Thread Andy
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=485992

Bug ID: 485992
Summary: Face recognition, small part or half face
Classification: Applications
   Product: digikam
   Version: 8.4.0
  Platform: Microsoft Windows
OS: Microsoft Windows
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Faces-Detection
  Assignee: digikam-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: zu...@gmx.de
  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 168824
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=168824=edit

Hello, when I want to assign names to the faces found, I always notice faces
that are only partially framed.
Does it make sense to extend these frames to the entire face?
Can I adjust something in the program so that this no longer happens?
Would recognizing faces work better?
Regards
Andy

[spacebar] [Bug 485719] spacebar-daemon crashes when an SMS text is received; no notification shown, no message shown in Spacebar

2024-04-22 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=485719

I built Spacebar (including spacebar-daemon) from source on the PinePhone to
try to get the debug symbols for the aforementioned Qt libraries to populate in
the backtrace.

That didn't work, so I removed the Spacebar (including spacebar-daemon) package
using the following command:
$ sudo pacman -Rsn spacebar

I then "uninstalled" the files from my previous attempt at building from
source:
$ sudo xargs rm < build/install_manifest.txt

Next, I rebuilt Spacebar from source and installed it again:
$ cmake -B build && cmake --build build
$ sudo cmake --install build

After a reboot of the PinePhone, no more crashing...but also nothing at all. I
didn't even get a crash when receiving a message. This was because the
spacebar-daemon was no longer being autostarted at boot. So I started it
manually with the following command:
$ /usr/local/lib/libexec/spacebar-daemon

Note that the spacebar-daemon executable location is different when Spacebar is
built from source and installed with CMake
(/usr/local/lib/libexec/spacebar-daemon) vs installed via pacman
(/usr/lib/spacebar-daemon).

Fortunately, the process no longer crashes when run in this fashion, but I
still can't receive any messages. The console output from manually running the
spacebar-daemon appears to offer clues:
$ /usr/local/lib/libexec/spacebar-daemon

futuresql: Running "UPDATE Messages SET delivered = ? WHERE id == ?"
Failed successfully "PolicyKit authorization failed: not authorized for
'org.freedesktop.ModemManager1.Messaging'"
futuresql: SQL error: "database is locked Unable to fetch row"

After seeing this line, "futuresql: SQL error: "database is locked Unable to
fetch row"", I tried using lsof to see what processes were accessing the
database:
$ lsof ~/.local/share/spacebar/messages.sqlite

There were two processes accessing it - spacebar-daemon, and Spacebar - because
I had the spacebar app open. I ended both processes and only restarted the
spacebar-daemon manually:
$ /usr/local/lib/libexec/spacebar-daemon

However, after sending a message to myself, I still did not get the message or
a crash. Furthermore, I did not get any meaningful output to the console from
the running spacebar-daemon.

It is worth mentioning that the hardware should not be the issue here as I have
been able to send and receive texts with this device using past versions of
Plasma Mobile. I suspect this is merely a temporary Plasma 6 (Qt 6) related
regression.

I don't know what else to do or try at the moment. Are you experiencing this
issue as well? If so, please sanity check my troubleshooting thus far. If you
have any ideas or insights, I welcome them and would be happy to test theories.

UPower has not only restored lid switch handling, but also un-deprecated it.
They've since released two new versions with the release notes featuring
"Continue to support lid handling" and removing the "Note that this is the last
release of UPower with lid handling".

Lid switch handling in UPower is back for good. It absolutely makes sense now
to report this upstream.

For more background, see

OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: minor
  Priority: NOR
 Component: input
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org

  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Not all of the time, but quite often (maybe 25%? Could be less, but it happens
a lot) when pasting from selection using middle-click on mouse, it pastes
everything except the first character.
It's not a big deal, but when doing hundreds of copy-paste operations like I
do, it can get quite annoying.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Click and drag mouse over a selection of text (for me it's usually
Chromium)
2. Go to different app (for me it's usually KWrite)
3. Middle-click to paste text

OBSERVED RESULT
A certain percentage of time, the first character will be missing

All of selected text gets pasted into new app

Bug ID: 485988
Summary: [Feature request] Escape while selecting region
doesn't quit, but brings up main window
Classification: Applications
   Product: Spectacle
   Version: 24.02.2
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: General
  Assignee: noaha...@gmail.com
  Reporter: john.j.be...@gmail.com
CC: k...@david-redondo.de
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

There is an option to "Quit after manual Save or Copy". However, if you cancel
with Escape, it doesn't exit - you get the main window. This is (very slightly)
annoying when you go to take a screenshot and find you need to adjust the
window a little first, as you have to double-escape to get out.

There is already a way to take the whole screen (Enter), so there seems no need
for Escape to do the same.

I think it makes sense that this setting follows the "Quit after manual Save or
Copy" (i.e. "Quit after manual Save, Copy or Cancel". But if there's a use case
for getting Spectacle appearing after Escape that I'm not sensitive to, it
could be a separate config item?

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Configure: "Close on manual save copy"
2. Press "PrintSc" (or whatever trigger shortcut)
3. Optionally draw a rectangle.
4. Change your mind about whether you want a screenshot
5. Press Esc.

OBSERVED RESULT

See the Spectacle window pop up

EXPECTED RESULT

Dismiss Spectacle to adjust the window in question and try again.

Getting this one on Arch, Plasma 6.0.4. Changing "Colors & Themes > Plasma
Style" to anything other than Breeze... including a theme that is literally
just Breeze without a single customization. As in it's a
`.local/share/plasma/desktoptheme` folder with just `settings` and
`metadata.desktop` and it's pointing to just Breeze itself. User color work
fine, too!

It's the same thing with a cursor visible, and changing according to the UI
elements under it (which is only the text field, everything else uses default
pointer on hover...), and typing in blindly works fine. And it sometimes does
show up.

I tried disabling all the power saving options, nothing changed. Typically have
it set with everything on. No blue light filter thing though.

Launching `/usr/lib/kcreenlocker_greet` manually with Breeze works fine, with
or without `--testing`, it's just the screen locking via a hotkey when it
breaks

Desktop, X11, single AMD GPU, no iGPU/APU, single screen with 150% scaling and
4K native res.

Though that method is deprecated and will eventually have to be replaced by

   Product: kwin
   Version: 6.0.4
  Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR

SUMMARY
If a GTK window (happens with FireFox or Gnome Web) started maximised mode, and
I drag down the title bar to make the window unmaximised, release the mouse, and
then try to resize the window at the top-left/top-right corners, it seems that
the window's x,y positions get inverted.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Start Firefox or Gnome Web. Maximise its window, then close it.
2. Start the app again. The app starts with the window maximised.
3. Click the title bar (the thick empty area on the top of the window) and drag
it down until it becomes an unmaximised window. Release the mouse button.
4. Try to resize the window on the top-left/top-right corners.

OBSERVED RESULT
Window jumps to up/left side.

EXPECTED RESULT
Window stays where it is and the size gets resized.

My apologies for the rather turse auto reply and closure. I am overruling the
closure as kdiff3 can and should ajust its default permisions. Flatpack by
default is highly restrictive on what apps are permitted to do. For kdiff3
this is excessive.

libcolorcorrect: fix reading auto location enabled from config

Reading the 'Mode' config key into an int instead of string returned 0, which
was interpreted as auto location mode, and resulted in the locator always being
started even when the user had not chosen auto location.

Also explicitly check for the NightColor Active config, to future proof it in
case colorcorrect gets other uses such as adjusting screen gamma that can be
running independently of Night Light being enabled.

[plasma-systemmonitor] [Bug 485985] New: Memory RAM not adding up from children processes.

2024-04-22 Thread Brada
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=485985

Bug ID: 485985
Summary: Memory RAM not adding up from children processes.
Classification: Applications
   Product: plasma-systemmonitor
   Version: 5.27.5
  Platform: Debian stable
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: ksysguard-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: brad...@gmail.com

Plasma vs other system monitor

SUMMARY

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install brave via "sudo apt brave-browser"
2. Open Plasma system montor

OBSERVED RESULT
Memory/CPU values are only for specific process, and children does not add up.

EXPECTED RESULT
To be added up, see my attachment, it's clearly that brave doesn't use 700kb of
memory.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Depian 12.5 Stable, Plasma 5.27.5 stable
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.103.0
Qt Version: 5.15.8
Both x11/Wayland

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I'm a Windows user, trying to switch to Linux, but seems that everything is
broken :D
In other system monitor is 4.7gb(which I think is the correct one).

I see people complaining about this on internet, because I searched to fix the
problem, but I couldn't find a solution... since it looks like the column is
broken and useless. I expected of course, that all the child processes to be
added as the final memory(and CPU, and others).

I see that in columns we have CPU Usage for children processes adding up, maybe
add one also for memory?

Got it. It's to do with the icon / panel moving. Which is more prominent with
the floating panels.

Easier reproduction case: start hexchat, right click on it (so it gets
activated once)

We shouldn't have our click area on top, but on wayland our call to stack below
doesn't work as expected.

I disagree. Imagine a mountain or a monument instead of the white frame. That
is exactly the kind of image I have in my gallery that cause and for which the
algorithm does not work because of the fixed scaling.

Either way, I would appreciate if you told me the actual sizes that are used by

The pack provides several colors to choose from, if I download Flatery-Indigo
it actually downloads two packs - Flatery-Indigo and Flatery-Indigo-Dark.
Interestingly, only the Dark version(!) is what causes the behaviour, the
"normal" version works just fine.

[digikam] [Bug 485979] Expose Yolo Resizing Parameter to Improve Face Detection Accuracy

If I remove the white frame, all faces are recognized. I think that a image
with such a frame is a bit out of scope.

Hi Maik,

thanks for your quick answer. Please find my comments below.

(In reply to Maik Qualmann from comment #1)

Then what what sizes *are* used?

I'm sorry but I don't understand what you mean.

See attachment above.

It is good that you have confidence in your code! Nevertheless, I am a bit
confused by your open distrust in my bug report. Clearly, I am not the first
one to ask for improvements to the face detection algorithm (e.g.
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=485029 and
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=433716). So what causes your mistrust?

[dolphin] [Bug 485868] dolphin won't open and causes a memory leak

2024-04-22 Thread DN
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=485868

UPDATE: Changing icon theme pack seems to affect it. Currently I'm using one
called Flatery-Dark, installed about 2 years ago. Changing to any other, like
Breeze for example fixes the problem, dolphin opens pretty quick and as
expected. Changing it back to Flatery-Dark reintroduces the problem. In my
case, only this particular icon pack is what's causing the problem, so I'll
change it for now I guess.

I won't say it's resolved though as it's not apparent what's actually causing
the problem. I came back to this machine about a few months of inactivity,
updating it to the new KDE6 as it seems. Nothing else was changed about setup,
only the update.

To add to this, I'm running this on X11 if somebody wants to investigate
further, but I'm guessing the problem is pretty local in its nature as I don't
see any duplicates of it. I can also provide this particular icon theme pack if
someone asks for it.

There should be something in the debug output in the terminal if thumbnails are
not created for some images. A log would be interesting.

Regarding the creation date when metadata is deactivated, you cannot generally
say that the creation and modification dates are different, that depends on
many factors, e.g. camera model.

I'm already on a KF6 desktop. But I can also confirm the problem with the
AppImage, Dolphin does not open. However, I don't have 100% system load, but I
see these messages:

/usr/bin/dolphin: /tmp/.mount_digiKaO1moPr/usr/lib/libQt6Gui.so.6: version
`Qt_6.7.0_PRIVATE_API' not found (required by /usr/bin/dolphin)
/usr/bin/dolphin: /tmp/.mount_digiKaO1moPr/usr/lib/libQt6Core.so.6: version
`Qt_6.7.0_PRIVATE_API' not found (required by /lib64/libQt6Core5Compat.so.6)

With my native Qt6 developer version there are no problems opening Dolphin.
