Never mind. I'm going to have to go through everything thoroughly.

I asked the FreeBSD dev that worked on aarch64 and he pointed me to this github
repo he used during development

https://github.com/zxombie/arm64id
(with macros that make my eyes bleed and some abomination use of
__attribute__section to pretend that a bunch of individual structs are a single
array)

I'll attach the results for comparison with Linux.

2024-04-30 Thread Thomas Dickson
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=445351

--- Comment #10 from Thomas Dickson  ---
It's definitely an issue with how akregator uses KIO (or maybe a bug in KIO
itself?), as the error message is from KIO::SlaveBase::send
(src/core/slavebase.cpp:1470).

May have to look around and see what part of akregator calls the KIO stuff.

[kinfocenter] [Bug 486378] New: Memory leak when opening Info Center

2024-04-30 Thread Jaime Antonio Gonzalez
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=486378

Bug ID: 486378
   Summary: Memory leak when opening Info Center
Classification: Applications
   Product: kinfocenter
   Version: 6.0.4

OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general

CC: sit...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

Open info center (kinfocenter)

OBSERVED RESULT

RAM usage skyrockets instantly, depending on the system load, it can lead to a
complete lockup, or it finally "gives up" eating memory, and opens.

EXPECTED RESULT

It should open normally

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS

[i18n] [Bug 486377] New: DrKonqi has misleading Chinese translation

2024-04-30 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=486377

Bug ID: 486377
   Summary: DrKonqi has misleading Chinese translation
Classification: Translations
   Product: i18n
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: zh_CN
  Assignee: wen...@gmail.com
  Reporter: lilyd...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

The Chinese translation translates "debug symbols" or "symbols" to "调试符号包"
(which means "debug symbol package(s)"). This is misleading, because a debug
package is significantly different than debug symbols (e.g. from a debuginfod
service).

I can help update the translation, but it seems to be synced from elsewhere.
Could someone tell me how I should contribute?

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS

Arch Linux's latest. The misleading translation can also be seen in DrKonqi's
git repository.

I'm the one being misled, but not the one running the software, so no detailed
versions.

[plasmashell] [Bug 486376] New: When system shortcuts are linked files, copy the source shortcuts, not the link files.

2024-04-30 Thread Sin Jeong-hun
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=486376

Bug ID: 486376
   Summary: When system shortcuts are linked files, copy the

Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 6.0.4
  Platform: Arch Linux

Status: REPORTED

  Target Milestone: 1.0

Created attachment 169057
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=169057=edit
libre system shortcuts

SUMMARY
I tried to modify LibreOffice Writer shortcut (adding environment), but it
showed permission error. "Could not save properties due to insufficient access
to: /home/me/.local/share/applications/libre...desktop". That was weird,
because it is under my home directory. I wend to that directory, and found that
the .desktop file's owner is "root".

It seems that LibreOffice shortcuts in "/usr/share/applications/" are, unlike
others, linked files to "/usr/lib/libreoffice/share/xdg/desktop", and
Kickoff copies the link file to user's directory, not the source file of the
file, which means that the copied link file in the user's directory points to
the shortcut in the system directory that is owned by "root".

It should copy the original ".desktop" file to the user's directory, not the
link.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Arch Linux, install libreoffice-fresh from the "extra" repository.
2. In the menu, right click Writer, and try to change it and save it.
3.

OBSERVED RESULT
Could not save properties due to insufficient access

EXPECTED RESULT
Save a copy in the local "applications" directory.

Display Configuration showing only internal screen being detected

Laptop : Asus Rog Strix G17 GeForce 4070 RTX
Platform : Debian stable
KDE Plasma 5.27.5

The 2 external monitors I'm plugging in, are not being detected even though
they work with my Windows laptop. An AOC C24G1A (HDMI) and a Samsung monitor
(DisplayPort).
I also ran Nvidia's Linux driver, which installed their "Nvidia X Server
Settings" app which didn't make any difference except that now when I reboot,
the login screen shows up on the HDMI monitor (but it goes blank again after
I've logged in).

Not entirely sure whether/how this would solve the use case for using keyboards
to change the active screen, but it would certainly fix the other oddity I've
noticed with my graphics tablet, that it would randomly 'choose' a monitor and
work based on that monitor rather than following the 'active screen'. Moving
the mouse over, interacting with windows on the 'other' screen, would not
change the graphics tablet focus.

A fix which worked for me:

sudo nano /usr/lib/sddm/sddm.conf.d/default.conf

Numlock=on

I think the reason it is broken, is because the default setting is
Numlock=none, and the src/greeter/GreeterApp.cpp file in SDDM doesn't have a
case for Numlock=none.

--- Comment #1 from DT  ---
I've encountered the same behavior on my 240hz display. The overview and window
snapping animations are the most noticeable, and appear (mostly) correct on the
X11 session. Peculiarly, the overview animation on the X11 session renders at a
lower framerate *until* a window is snapped to an edge, following which it will
begin rendering at the correct framerate. I found a user on Reddit:
https://old.reddit.com/r/kde/comments/1c1lkiw/strange_lag_symptoms_with_the_overview_effect/
who reported similar issues (along with the quirk in the X11 session I
described).

I was able to reproduce this as well.

Yeah, this was the case. I was able to work around the issue somewhat by
manually editing my mimeapps.list and setting kwrite as the default application
for the application/octet-stream mimetype. This at least allows me to open
plain text files lacking a file extension (or that have extensions that don't
correspond to a mimetype, like .conf or .nix files), which for me, was the
usecase most affected by the bug. But, this is an inadequate solution for, say,
opening pictures or videos lacking the appropriate extension.

Git commit 48fbcdffc4ff22a11b56d8809739e0f096d190e6 by Nicolas Fella, on behalf

VNC: replace m_stopped with QThread's interruptionRequested

It's an out-of-line function call, but it doesn't require a mutex for
most uses.

The uses in the callbacks are replaced with isRunning(), because
interruptionRequested resets back to false as soon as run() exits.

@vm Thanks for sharing!
And wow, I did not know that you can click on radio button to disable that.
Very counter-intuitive... It should be a radio-button with the check mark ("V")
inside, instead of circle, to indicate that you can disable it as a checkbox.

Is that the same thing as `drmdevice`? I tried installing drm_info and drminfo
as well as searching for it in the arch packages repo but I cannot find
anything.

[kwin] [Bug 478556] Sometimes the stacking order is out of sync with Xorg

2024-04-30 Thread vm
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=478556

--- Comment #73 from vm  ---
After a lot of debugging i think i've found at least a better workaround.

Workaround:

Quite simple - disable ALL effects in "Window Open/Close Animation" group.

Details:

It looks like when any of these effect are enabled KWin starts leaking Window
instances, as they sometimes not getting deleted.

In IDEA every button (such as Run/Debug, Settings, left panel buttons) - has a
tooltip.
When you hover over any of these IDEA button it creates new X window to display
a tooltip.
When mouse leaves that button - tooltip window is destroyed.
KWin tries to animate destruction of that tooltip (...yeah tooltip death
animation...)
And sometimes it causes that Window instances (previously used by tooltips) are
never be deleted (a lot of X11Window instances holding m_client = 0x0), because
m_refCount counter never reaches zero.
Why and where it leaks exactly i'm still don't understand, but the problem
somewhere in this effects implementation.
A few moments later this leaked Window instances start causing a lot of
stacking issues.

Look:

https://youtu.be/1jiKEP-MJQQ

What i've done - added simple logging to Workspace::updateStackingOrder (and
some quite simple helpers - such as refCount() to Window.h for debugging
reasons):

void Workspace::updateStackingOrder(bool propagate_new_windows)
{
if (m_blockStackingUpdates > 0) {
if (propagate_new_windows) {
m_blockedPropagatingNewWindows = true;
}
return;
}
QList new_stacking_order = constrainedStackingOrder();
bool changed = (force_restacking || new_stacking_order !=
stacking_order);
force_restacking = false;
stacking_order = new_stacking_order;
if (changed || propagate_new_windows) {
propagateWindows(propagate_new_windows);

for (int i = 0; i < stacking_order.size(); ++i) {
stacking_order[i]->setStackingOrder(i);
}

Workspace::debugStacking("Stacking order changed!!!",
stacking_order); // <--

Q_EMIT stackingOrderChanged();

if (m_activeWindow) {
m_activeWindow->updateMouseGrab();
}
}
}

void Workspace::debugStacking(const char* prefix, const QList&
stacking) {
QString debugString;
for (Window* w: stacking) {
X11Window* x11w = static_cast(w);
debugString.append(QString("  instance = 0x%1 refCount = %2 window
= 0x%3 desc = %4\n")
.arg(reinterpret_cast(x11w), 0, 16)
.arg(x11w->refCount())
.arg(x11w->window(), 0, 16)
.arg(x11w->windowDesc()));
}
qDebug("%s!!!\n%s", prefix, qUtf8Printable(debugString));
}

Also i've launched gdb to get backtraces with this commands:

gdb ./kwin_x11

break window.cpp:113
commands
silent
bt 6
continue
end

break window.cpp:118
commands
silent
bt 6
continue
end

run --replace`

But without success as i didn't find a real reason - looks like Window
references are hold by EffectWindowDeletedRef, but why...

With all this in mind:

What i clearly know - KWin Window leaking - doesn't look like IDEA problem.
I think this is also reproducible with ANY software which can create/delete
windows as fast as IDEA does.

Bug ID: 486369
   Summary: WIFI cannot be enabled at Kubuntu 24.04 LTS
Classification: Applications
   Product: systemsettings
   Version: 5.27.11
  Platform: Kubuntu
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: kcm_networkmanagement
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: basro...@gmail.com
CC: jgrul...@redhat.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
So far, I do not manage to get WIFI enabled by the useful steps at a fresh
install of Kubuntu 24.04 LTS, at this laptop:
Lenovo Thinkpad X230 i5, along with 4 GB RAM, 250 GB SSD. A quick internet
search clarifies me that I am not the only one who deals with this problem.

I do work now with wired internet. However, this wired connection does not help
me to get the WIFI enabled. Ticking the box for enabling WIFI is not possible.
You can see it at the screenshot I send with this report.

That's why, I have looked for methods to get WIFI enabled via the command line.
No result. At this output report, you can see why:

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. The graphical check down under - trying to tick the box to enable WIFI. See
also attached screenshot.
2. Command line checks summarised here - see here above. See also the two links
for more info.

OBSERVED RESULT
Both checks did NOT end up in enabling WIFI.

EXPECTED RESULT
Enabling WIFI should need to be possible via either command line or the
graphical approach.

[amarok] [Bug 486342] Equalizer

2024-04-30 Thread Tuomas Nurmi
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=486342

--- Comment #3 from Tuomas Nurmi  ---
Okay, thank you for confirming!
I tested using (unmaintained/unsupported) phonon-gstreamer backend and there
the equalizer changes are somewhat instant, so seems to depend on phonon
backend in use. I'll inspect later if there's anything that could be done on
Amarok's side

[digikam] [Bug 485981] "Open in File Manager" causes 100% CPU usage in process: kde-open5 file://

2024-04-30 Thread Hauke
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=485981

Hauke  changed:

 CC||m...@hauke-stieler.de

--- Comment #2 from Hauke  ---
I can confirm the bug under Arch Linux with kioclient 6.0.4 (output of
"kde-open --version").

When executing xdg-open like "xdg-open /path/to/file.txt", the kde-open5
command is called with a "file://path/to/file.txt" parameter and directly fails
(as far as I can see with exit code 1 but without logging to stdout/stderr).
When using xdg-open, this process is endlessly recreated causing a high CPU
load.

My expected behavior is that kde-open/kde-open5 is able to deal with
"file://..." parameters.

Relevant environment variables on my machine might be XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=KDE
and KDE_SESSION_VERSION=5.

[amarok] [Bug 486345] Support listenbrainz scrobbling

2024-04-30 Thread Tuomas Nurmi
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=486345

--- Comment #3 from Tuomas Nurmi  ---
Okay, that's great to hear!

I haven't read the relevant parts of code that much, but I have a feeling the
architecture should allow adding other scrobbling services quite easily, so it
is not far-fetched idea that somebody could implement listenbrainz scrobbling
plugin, too.

--- Comment #2 from Fabio  ---
Hello, This is exactly the symptom, it happened here I had to stop the
music and start it again to get the equalizer effect. I don't know if it
helps but I have VLC installed

It seems "/usr/lib/kde_ufw_plugin_helper.py" needs to upgrade to python 3.12,
because 3 days ago Arch/Manjaro unstable made huge recompiling for over 300
packages to python 3.12.3

backends/drm: Prevent "recently disconnected" screen wakeup more aggressively

It seems that, on some systems (such as on mine), 1s is not long enough
for a spurious disconnect and reconnect to happen. 2s seems enough,
however, while still likely not being long enough to cause user
confusion.

--- Comment #4 from Maik Qualmann  ---
I don't really see an error. The dialog also works under Windows. I'm surprised
by the (!) in front of !d->bookmarksDialog->isHidden(). Because if the dialog
is hidden, it can also be reactivated. We also use the same code in the plugin
dialogs for reactivation. However, it doesn't matter because the pointer is
NULL at the start anyway.
