[plasmashell] [Bug 487130] New: Plasma icons and overview broken after plugging in a display. Wayland.

2024-05-16 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=487130

Bug ID: 487130
Summary: Plasma icons and overview broken after plugging in a
display. Wayland.
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 6.0.4
  Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Panel
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: rafal.dardzin...@gmail.com
CC: niccolo.venera...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: 1.0

Created attachment 169552
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=169552=edit
When I move mouse cursor over an icon it gets aligned to left side. Icons are
stacked.

SUMMARY
I have three displays: 2560x1440@60Hz, 3840x2160@144Hz, 3840x2160@60Hz, all
connected to my nVidia GPU through Display Ports (I'm running official drivers,
550.78-2). When running Wayland session I disconnected second monitor from a
power grid. After reconnecting it again, when I hover my mouse over icon on
plasma panel, it gets aligned to the left. Clicking on a place where an icon's
supposed to be activates a corresponding application. Same thing happens with
system tray icons. Icons are placed back when panel needs to resize. Overview
doesn't work either - when I try to enter it, all the widgets I have on desktop
freeze, but no overview is displayed (I can move mouse cursor though). Clicking
of hitting ESC key brings widgets to life again.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Run KDE Plasma in Wayland session with multiple displays.
2. Disconnect one of the displays from the power grid. Wait for Plasma to
react.
3. Connect the display to power grid again.

OBSERVED RESULT
Icons alignment breaks on mouseover.
Overview does not work (when activating overview, everything freezes until
click or ESC key is pressed).
System Monitor Sensor graphs do not render.

EXPECTED RESULT
Everything works as expected.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: EndevourOS
KDE Plasma Version: 6.0.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.2.0
Qt Version: 6.7.0

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Rebooting does not fix the problem. Disabling/enabling displays from
DisplayConfiguration does not fix the problem. Problem occured one time before
and I was able to fix it through disconnecting displays and connecting them
again, but I'm not able to reproduce this sequence.

[plasmashell] [Bug 487129] New: Desktop context menu opens incorrectly on primary external monitor

2024-05-16 Thread antr1x
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=487129

Bug ID: 487129
Summary: Desktop context menu opens incorrectly on primary

Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 6.0.4
  Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Desktop Containment

plasmashell context menu

SUMMARY
Context menu opens in a separate window with a title bar labeled "plasmashell"
in the center of the screen instead of directly on the desktop.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Connect an external monitor to the laptop via Thunderbolt 4 -> DisplayPort.
2. Set the external monitor as the primary display in the display settings.
3. Disable the laptop's built-in display (only the external monitor is active).
4. Click anywhere outside the desktop area (e.g., taskbar, another window like
a browser or Dolphin).
5. Right-click on the desktop to open the context menu.

OBSERVED RESULT
- The context menu opens in a separate window with a title bar labeled
"plasmashell" and appears in the center of the screen.
- If you first click on the desktop, then the context menu opens correctly on
subsequent right-clicks.
- When both the laptop display and the external monitor are enabled (extended
mode), right-clicking on the desktop of the external monitor causes the context
menu to appear on the laptop display instead.

EXPECTED RESULT
- The context menu should open directly on the desktop as usual.

[Discover] [Bug 433463] Discover should de-duplicate apps whose AppStream IDs differ only by the presence or absence of the ".desktop" suffix

2024-05-16 Thread Matthias Klumpp
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=433463

Oh, just to add: Component IDs should be matched *exactly*, doing heuristics
was a really bad idea of the past. If an application wants to rename its ID, it
can do so *explicitly* by using a `replaces` block:
https://www.freedesktop.org/software/appstream/docs/chap-Metadata.html#tag-replaces
Of course, if such a hint is there, Discover should follow it and combine the
two components under the new name (if libappstream hasn't done that already).

Some components use "provides" instead of "replaces", which is a bit
unfortunate (likely from a time before we had a proper replacement mechanism in
AppStream...), but at least this is also explicit and no error-prone heuristics
are happening.

If any duplicate apps happen, those issues should be fixed by the distributors
(Flathub, Debian/Fedora/OpenSUSE/Ubuntu/etc) or by the respective upstreams by
either fixing the ID or by adding any missing `replaces` tags.

[Discover] [Bug 433463] Discover should de-duplicate apps whose AppStream IDs differ only by the presence or absence of the ".desktop" suffix

2024-05-16 Thread Matthias K.
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=433463

Matthias K. changed:

   What|Removed |Added

 CC||matth...@tenstral.net

To make one thing super clear: This *must not* be fixed in Discover, and it
also *must not* be addressed in AppStream either. No entity except for the
upstream project and, in rare cases, the packager, should ever mess with the
component ID. A lot of stuff is tied to it, changing is basically means
renaming the project, and stripping a bunch of associated metadata. We also
have pretty bad history with messing with component IDs, causing a ton of
issues (so, the only place we touch them in distributions is when there is no
MetaInfo file and an ID is synthesized).

For the issue at hand, this is a weird one! I was looking at this using the
Debian package, since that's the distro I use.
On Debian, the component has the ID `org.godotengine.Godot`, so I thought maybe
we rename it in the package! Turns out, that is not the case:
https://salsa.debian.org/debian/godot3/-/blob/master/debian/rules?ref_type=heads#L97

So, Debian just ships the metaInfo file that upstream provides, which has the
`org.godotengine.Godot` ID. So, looking at the Flatpak recipe, for some reason
Flatpak does *not* use the upstream-provided MetaInfo file, but provides its
own one! And look at that:
https://github.com/flathub/org.godotengine.Godot/blob/master/org.godotengine.Godot.appdata.xml#L3
=> It has the "wrong" ID, diverging from upstream! Funnily enough, the Flatpak
itself is named `org.godotengine.Godot`, so I see no reason at all for this
weird diversion... Maybe it had something to do with appstream-glib in the past
before Flatpak switched to libappstream, but that would be odd...

In any case, this goes completely against what MetaInfo files are designed for,
upstream is supposed to provide them, and packagers may only provide one if
upstream doesn't have one.

So, tl;dr, this is not a Discover bug or AppStream or Flatpak bug, but a bug in
the Flatpak bundle. IMHO the downstream MetaInfo file should just be deleted
and the one from upstream should be used instead, that's what it's for! (and if
anything is missing, just contribute the metadata upstream!)
At the very least, the component ID should be harmonized with what upstream
ships though.

[kwin] [Bug 487082] Not all screens update on window re-paints when using Zoom effect on Wayland

2024-05-16 Thread Ritchie Frodomar
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=487082

After looking at the code for Kwin's Zoom effect (specifically
ZoomEffect::zoomIn() in zoom.cpp), I see why zooming in/out/around the screen
doesn't cause these repaint issues.

At the very end, there's a call to effects->addRepaintFull() - which ultimately
tells the compositor to repaint the entire scene.

With guidance, I could likely submit a merge request that fixes this for
partial repaints. I just don't know enough of how it works yet.

SUMMARY

As a user, I'm suggesting tray icons perhaps shouldn't be locked to "Always
visible" as seen in the attached screenshot. Whatever condition causes this, I
pondered it but failed to think of how this could be useful to the user or
possible to easily understand. 100% of the affected icons I never use and I
don't want them to show. If the app that spawned the respective tray icon
thinks that the icon is somehow essential, that's fine but should be ignored
since that doesn't change the reality that I don't actually use the icon. My
apologies if this is an obvious error on my end.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

1. Enter "Configure System Tray"
2. See that you can't hide or disable some icons

OBSERVED RESULT

can't hide or disable some icons

EXPECTED RESULT

any icon no matter what can be disabled and/or hidden

Where would be a place to document this where you would find it during
packaging?
Checking for the backend with cmake is probably non-trivial unfortunately.

I can put it into the README, however that's probably also rarely read.

Cannot reproduce today when I drag two image files in a row from Dolphin to
https://imgur.com/upload in Firefox 125.0.3 (distro package, native Wayland
mode).

When I do the same thing in Chromium 124.0.6367.155 (distro package, both
native Wayland and XWayland mode), it fails to drop even the first time. This
feels like a different bug, maybe one in the browser itself.

It's possible the original bug got fixed today by the fix for Bug 450053. Can
anyone able to test a patch or build from git master give that a try?

I can reproduce what I'm pretty sure is the same issue in the following way:

1. Open Konsole
2. Type the text "green"
3. Focus another window
4. Hover over the word "green"

Can you also confirm if this goes away if you run:

[frameworks-kservice] [Bug 487122] New: Adding support for Windows to KApplicationTrader / KSycoca

2024-05-16 Thread Fabian Arndt
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=487122

Bug ID: 487122
Summary: Adding support for Windows to KApplicationTrader /
KSycoca
Classification: Frameworks and Libraries
   Product: frameworks-kservice
   Version: 6.2.0
  Platform: Other
OS: Microsoft Windows
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: kio-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: fabian.ar...@root-core.net
CC: kdelibs-b...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
I know this might be a strange request, it's probably no match and most likely
not worth the effort, but applications like kdeconnect could make use of the
cache. Example:
https://invent.kde.org/network/kdeconnect-kde/-/merge_requests/670

KApplicationTrader::preferredService alway returns an empty result on Windows.
All the file and scheme handler associations are stored in the registry:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Use KApplicationTrader::preferredService on Windows

OBSERVED RESULT
Empty results.

EXPECTED RESULT
Results that are equal to the registry.

Thanks for pointing it out Dilham, I see the error of my ways now!
I agree that this bug report cannot be used as is, so I'll do as you suggested.

Also, for the third bug, dolphin drag shortcuts, I've found
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=423031 that resembles the exact same
problem I have, so should I just reopen that bug report or create a new one?
I presume the latter as I am on different distro from the one in that bug
report.

Thanks upfront!

That does, to a point. Might there be a VDG issue on Invent about your wider
gripe about the ecosystem, which you've referenced? I don't really think that
it's suitable for solely the shell to provide that level of customisation -
that should be something that the window manager allows the user to do
everywhere, which isn't really what KWin's designed for (to my knowledge).

So you think it's a GPhoto2 problem and not a digikam problem ?
How could I check that ? Is is possible to use gphoto other that with digikam ?

Another case where this sort of feature would be useful relates to debuginfod.
We may need a way of passing $DEBUGINFOD_URLS only to valgrind or only to the
target process (depending on what it is we're trying to debug).

Consider a command line option scheme kind of like docker's or /bin/env's:

valgrind -e ENV1= -e ENV2=foo /bin/target

which could mean "drop ENV1 from, and override ENV2=foo in, valgrind's
environment"

[Powerdevil] [Bug 487118] New: The Power Management applet displays

2024-05-16 Thread Wyatt Childers

Summary: The Power Management applet displays
Classification: Plasma

 Component: general
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: kdebugs.81do7@haxing.ninja
CC: m...@ratijas.tk, natalie_clar...@yahoo.de
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
The Plasma Power Management applet incorrectly displays that sleep and screen
locking are disabled when org.freedesktop.portal.Inhibit is used.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Run an affected application like Firefox or Moonlight that send only
org.freedesktop.portal.Inhibit and not org.freedesktop.ScreenSaver

OBSERVED RESULT
The UI reports that sleep and screen locking is blocked.

EXPECTED RESULT
The UI reports that sleep is blocked/the description of what's blocked is
accurate (as Plasma does not block screen locking without
org.freedesktop.ScreenSaver).

SUMMARY
The parameters for ffmpeg are not passed on correctly even though the same work
perfectly using ffmpeg in a terminal.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create a new Clip Job with Executable /usr/bin/ffmpeg and the following
Arguments:
-i {source} -crf 10 -vf
"minterpolate=fps={param2}:mi_mode=mci:mc_mode=aobmc:me_mode=bidir:vsbmc=1"
{output}
2. For Parameter 2 select Request option from list, name it "fps" and create
list with the values 30, 60, 120, 240
3. Start the clip job on a video clip in the bin and select 60 for fps

OBSERVED RESULT
See atatchment

EXPECTED RESULT
For comparison enter this into a terminal: ffmpeg -i -crf 10
-vf "minterpolate=fps=60:mi_mode=mci:mc_mode=aobmc:me_mode=bidir:vsbmc=1"

This is an android phone (Motorola)

> Note that digiKam requires an exclusive connection with GPhoto2 to your

Yes, I have noticed that (i.e. if the Android Phone is mounted in file explorer
(nautilus in Gnome), digikam cannot load the images. No problem after
unmounting the Phone in nautilus).
But I don't think this is the problem in my case because:
 - despite the fact the previews are missing, I can download the files without
problem with digikam (and then the preview is OK in the album)
 - if I unplug / replug the phone and try to reopen the import window, it's
always the same pictures whose preview is missing. So it sounds like it is well
a problem with some images ? (unless these pictures are tagged as faulty in
digikam DB and digikam does not try to display preview anymore ?)

[plasmashell] [Bug 433196] Make the styling for minimized Tasks more pronounced

2024-05-16 Thread Nate Graham
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=433196

What you're seeing is caused by broken packages or a corrupted Plasma cache.
Try clearing ~/.cache/. If that doesn't help, contact your distro about it.

[Discover] [Bug 469159] Authentication prompt is shown at the *end* of a major distro upgrade in Discover, not at the beginning

2024-05-16 Thread Nate Graham
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=469159

If you can tell me how to get lots of logging, I can write that down and apply
it before my next distro upgrade in 6 months.

Or whenever I stop being lazy and install Fedora 39 in a VM and upgrade to 40.
