https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=387931 --- Comment #16 from Anguo <kde_b...@overshoot.tv> --- I object. I am tired of the culture that pervades the whole KDE ecosystem (plasma, konqueror, kwin, kmail, kdm, kuser, etc. etc.) in which regressions are considered acceptable. Software is supposed to become more and more user-friendly and feature-rich over time, not the other way around. I have been a faithful KDE user for 17 years, but I have fewer and fewer reasons to stick with it, since many of the features that made me chose it over other Desktop Environments are now removed or broken. The whole kmail2/akonadi is a disaster and I long for kmail1. The regression discussed in this issue is another sad step in the same direction. I understand that developers freely provide their time and expertise for the community, and that their time is limited so that not all bugs can be fixed nor all feature request be implemented. But then why on earth should developers waste their time removing features that were working perfectly?? What so much time and effort wasted on the whole akodani framework which, as far as I am concerned, only brought headaches, weird bugs that at times rendered kmail almost completely unusable, without any apparent benefit in terms of features or usability?? For me, the only acceptable fix to this issue is to revert the commit referenced above. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[kmymoney] [Bug 389631] Date edit should default on day section
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=389631 --- Comment #2 from Anguo <kde_b...@overshoot.tv> --- Thank you Thomas. I feel your pain, when, as a developer, you face two end users with mutually exclusive requests. I am grateful for your long term contributions to this project. The +/- keys cover perfectly the second need I was describing. Thanks a lot. Next time, I'll make sure to consult the kmymoney documentation first. Sorry about that. Back to the original request about the focus on the day section of the date widget: Personally, I am fortunate enough to be using Gentoo, so having managed to find the appropriate commit (referred above), it was easy enough to produce a quick and dirty patch and re-emerge (re-compile) the package, so that on my system the focus is now back on the day section. But it helps only me and potentially other Gentoo/kmymoney users. The +/- key functionally render the feature request less important because other users may form the habit of using the +/- keys instead of the arrows. Having said that, I still prefer using the arrows, because when I key in my transactions, my fingers are already placed there (due to selecting the payee a couple of fields earlier), so I will keep my patch in place. Besides, I can't really think of a use case where focus on the year section in the widget might be more useful in a day to day use of kmymoney... It really appears to me more logical to have the default focus placed on the day, regardless of the date format used, as it used to be. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

I have just upgraded from kmymoney 8.0 to kmymoney 8.1, and I couldn't not notice a very annoying change in the way the date widget is being handled. I have tracked the changes to this commit: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=374123 Git commit b22c965f5848642725ceb6c7ed7b22fdc296a950 Committed on 25/12/2016 Pushed by tbaumgart into branch '4.8'. Use first date section to start editing Use the first section of the date edit widget for the selected date format instead of always using the day section FIXED-IN: 4.8.1 M +12 -8kmymoney/widgets/kmymoneydateinput.cpp M +33 -24 kmymoney/widgets/kmymoneydateinput.h When using kmymoney, most of the time is spent keying in new transactions in the ledger. For efficiency purposes, it is important to be able to do so without using the mouse, but simply and quickly tabbing from field to field. My usage pattern for some accounts is to enter about 1~2 weeks worth of transactions with a small handful of transactions for any given day, with my date format being MMDD. With KMM 4.8.0, tabbing into the date widget, the focus was on the day section by default, which suited me fine, because I am entering the transactions in chronological order and a single 'arrow up' key press allowed me to move on to the next day. Now, the focus is on the year by default, and for each transaction that occurred on the next day, I have to press 6 times the right arrow to focus on the day field and select the right day. Basically, the logic of the above 'fix' is a bit faulty as it assumes that the first section (the leftmost section) is the most useful/relevant one, whereas the day section is the most relevant. Reverting the above commit would suit me fine. Also, since we're speaking about the date selection widget, what I'd really like is to be able to move to the next month/year simply by incrementing the day part. E.g. with the focus on the day section, arrow up increments the day from 01 to 02, from 02 to 03, etc. and on the 31st of one month, to the 1st of the next month, from the 28th (or 29th) of February to the 1st of March, from the 31st of December to the 1st of January of the following year. Have the same logic applied in reverse with a arrow down key press (moving from the 1st January to the 31st of December of the previous year, from the 1st to the last day of the previous month, etc.). Do the KDE/Qt libraries have such a functionality for their date widget? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

I much prefer those to the complete unusability of the current default behaviour. Since applying the fix, my workflow and efficiency has improved a lot. Actually, fixing this regression allowed me to discover another reason why I previously always confused my konqueror tasks. The default plasma behaviour is that the tab orders in the taskbar is not fixed but depends on which tab in the konqueror window is currently active. It happened invisibly without me ever noticing before, so that I was getting almost crazy: "I could have sworn that the window opened on that site was the right-most task in the taskbar". Within 5 minutes of fixing the regression, what was happening without me noticing, all of a sudden became apparent. It was night and day. The regression is a huge usability nightmare, at least for many of us, judging by the number of duplicate reports. KDE has always been the DE which offered the most customisability, giving users the most freedom. It would take any seasoned KDE developer no more than 30 minutes to offer a settings and take it into account in the patched method. I dare take a chance at reopening this bug report, because: 1) We have a choice between slight visual inconsistencies versus a huge usability regression. Which one is more important? 2) hiding other existing bug with the use of a regression and dumbing down a software is akin to sweeping the dust under the carpet. Let the dust be apparent until someone is motivated enough to fix it in a more appropriate manner. 3) I am concerned about other users who experience the same problems. My own system is fixed so I am happy for myself. 4) A single setting is all what it would take to have the best of both world, giving the choice back to the end users. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

I don't know if the symptomatic code is in jquery 2, but it certainly is in jquery 3, which is gaining wide adoption. And as I said, I found this while trying to find out why a web site using jquery was broken and unusable in konqueror. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[plasmashell] [Bug 369658] Different windows from same app show icon defined in .desktop file instead of app-specified icon
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=369658 --- Comment #25 from Anguo <kde_b...@overshoot.tv> --- OMG! Christoph! I can't believe the fix was so easy! I am so happy. :D At last I can make some sense of the tabs in my taskbar again! I don't know how long it took you to dig out the right method, but you certainly saved me days (at the very least) of hair-pulling on my side! Still, your time is at least as valuable as my own, so I greatly appreciate the help you provided! Now, on the technical side of things, I did two tests; the first one was not successful, the second was. The first time, I simply did what I mentioned above. I simply edited konqueror.desktop so that I had "Icon=" instead of "Icon=konqueror". I didn't log out nor reboot, but I started another session: there was no change. The second time, to be sure to stack the cards on my favour, I did 2 things. I hadn't found the definition of AppData::icon::isNull() so I didn't know if an empty string would count as Null. Thus, I completely deleted the "Icon=" line from the konqueror.desktop file. ALSO, I patched the file Christoph mentioned and recompiled the package, and installed it (within gentoo, that's all done with a single 'emerge' command), then rebooted the computer. After reboot, I was back in sanity land! Yeah! :D @artem, Please test the following and tell us if it works: do: $ locate konqueror.desktop On my system, I found this: /usr/share/kde4/services/konqueror.desktop Completely remove the Icon= line, save the file then reboot. See if it's enough to remove the regression and fix your system. The simplicity of the fix proves that the reasons given in #4 are complete bullshit. It'd take 30 minutes for an experienced Plasma developer to code a setting into systemsettings and look up that setting within XWindowTasksModel::Private::icon(WId). A warning could be provided for the user, warning them about low-resolution favicons, potential inconsistencies, etc none of which I experience at this happy hour. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=369658 --- Comment #23 from Anguo <kde_b...@overshoot.tv> --- Thank you artem and Christoph. :) This is what I have so far: $ locate konqueror.desktop /usr/share/kde4/services/konqueror.desktop There was a line that said: Icon=konqueror I replaced it with: Icon= and saved the file. I launched a new KDE session on another tty, opened a wikipedia page but no luck. I didn't reboot: I don't know if it makes a difference with regard to icon caching, etc. Meanwhile, I am cloning: git clone git://anongit.kde.org/plasma-workspace.git/ Christoph, I'll check the function you mention, create a custom patch, rebuild (luckily, it's so very easy to do within gentoo!), reboot and report back... If it fails, where else should I look into? Thanks. :) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=369658 --- Comment #18 from Anguo <kde_b...@overshoot.tv> --- I will keep on documenting everything I know about this issue here: http://linux.overshoot.tv/wiki/konqueror_taskbar_icon See attached picture example on why this KDE Plasma regression is a nightmare for some of us. I have posted rebuttals or requests for clarifications on all the points raised in #4. I am NOT asking konqueror developers to fix this themselves, if they are not willing to do so. I am willing to do the heavy lifting. But I don't know the code base like you do. Please give me a fighting chance of finding a way to patch my system so that I can stop mixing my windows all the time. Which git repository should I look into? Which files? Around which version or which branch was the feature removed? Thank you for your help. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

One Konqueror window is open on a wikipedia page, the other is open on the user's personal web page dealing with the same topic. The user was referring to Wikipedia while working on an article. Can you quickly make out at a glance which window is which? This is one of the numerous regressions between KDE4 and KDE5. Of all of konqueror's shortcomings, this bug is the one that affects me the most in my daily use. Despite many bugs in css and javascript rendering, Konqueror is still the best browser to use when we care about KDE integrations and especially Plasma Activities. I am going to try to dig up the code that was ripped, and see if I can patch konqueror to restore this functionality. I am currently cloning git://anongit.kde.org/kde-baseapps.git. I hope this is the right repository. Could developers who are familiar with the Konqueror code base provide me with pointers as to about when was the feature removed, and which files in the git history should I look into? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
