Thanks pointing this.
Reported malfunctioning version = 20.12.0
Current latest available release version = 21.04.1

As Mageia is a fixed release, we are investigating to migrate some packages to
latest release. But, is there an interesting commit for k3b to solve the main
issue of this report? I could then argue to upgrade all KFramework/Plasma/KDE
Gear stuff for Mageia 8.

Regards,

Using Global Menu on Primary screen, dragging for example a Dolphin window to
second monitor: booh, there is no Global Menu anymore for Dolphin when that
window is in focus.

For this, better is to trigger a file remove upon quit our installer. So,
basically, users will have the functionality and no segfault.
The option in the above file is:

[General]
RememberOpenedTabs=false

But, on my file, there are other settings I don't know well the meaning. ;)

Yeah, this should be done ASAP, but, for now we are in release and version
freeze for Mageia 8. ASAP Cauldron reopen, I do think our maintainers will see
this.

--- Comment #1 from Aurélien Oudelet (auroud85_fr) ---
After many tries, we, at Mageia, conclude this is due to the Saved Session
management.

In facts, the "Live" user session and datas are carried over in the newly
installed system on harddrive to the first user which will have a new Unix name
based on user info and will have a user ID of 1000.
As reported by our KDE maintainers at Mageia at Comment 0, launching Dolphin in
Live env. is OK but not in newly installed system. It segfaults badly.

But, trying to know why, I created a totally new user "test" with totally empty
/home/test directory. And noow, Dolphin DOES NOT segfault. I conclued that:
there are strange bits of datas written somewhere in Live environment that are
carried over the newly system and present in the first user home directory.

Investigating:
The culprit is session management added to Dolphin in Dolphin 20.08 I think.
This is the option in Dolphin's preferences:
Startup => Show on startup "Folders, tabs, and window state from last time".

This wants to open /home/live/ with several name "live" somewhere... and it
crashed because it no longer exists although there is a symlink "Live" that
points to /home/aurelien (where "aurelien" is the name of the first user
created after installation on my test system).

But, the GUI option is not user accessible as Dolphin crashes as soon as it
launches.

After many tries, there are several files to delete to workaround this on
already installed systems:
First:
~/.config/session/dolphin_dolphin_dolphin
~/.config/dolphinrc

Remove everything in them. => No segfault after.

My request also is to know which CLI command can we type to deactivate the
option to restore the previous Dolphin's state.

I don't know if this is related but:

Dolphin 20.12.1 has an option to
Show on startup: "Folders, tabs, window state of last time"(A) or a user's
selected directory (B), in Startup pane of Dolphin's preferences.

When the above (A) option is selected and a Terminal pane was previously
opened, a new instance of Dolphin has this Terminal pane without colors
outputs.

But, if (B) option is selected, the same Terminal pane has colors outputs...

It seems the (A) option relies on a Restore Session functionality...
If you consider that this is not related, I shall open a new BR.

[systemsettings] [Bug 422177] New Users kcm doesn't set user avatar as expected

2021-02-02 Thread Aurélien Oudelet
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=422177

--- Comment #40 from Aurélien Oudelet (auroud85_fr) ---
Following my comment 39,

To workaround this,
1) Choose and copy a png avatar like ones found under
/usr/share/kpackage/kcms/kcm_users/contents/img/

2) Copy/paste chosen PNG file as "~/.face"

3) Make a symlink as:
$ ln -s ./.face ./.face.icon

4) set ACL like this:
$ setfacl -m u:sddm:r ~/.face.icon
$ setfacl -m u:sddm:x ~/

This permits sddm to see your avatar as ".face.icon" in your user root home
directory. Why makin a symlink?
For simply change your avatar by only change the ~/.face file.

AccountsService and QML KCM_users are totally broken as is for now.

Nevermind.

I didn't see the "sync settings" option...
I do think this should be more explicit than a sync button and a pretty obscure
text where numlock is mentioned.
In French, it is mentioned at the 5th place between Plasma theme and cursors...

Bug ID: 431405
Summary: Add a GUI option to turn on Numlock
   Product: systemsettings

 Flags: Usability+

SUMMARY
There is no option in sddm-kcm to activate Numlock feature in sddm-kcm.

[General]
Numlock=On

EXPECTED RESULT
A toggle in sddm-KCM to activate it.

In facts, if SDDM displays a list of users, even in English locale or in
French, there is no wrong password feedback.
BUT if user must enter his user name and his password, the "Failed login"
message is displayed.
I upload to my youtube account a video of this behaviour.

Log file from journalctl when reproducing Dolphin segfault

SUMMARY
Dolphin by default shows now Disk usage bar. (See attached screenshot.)
Browsing through directory/files is OK.
Click everywhere on UI is OK

But, in Places panel:
Dolphin 20.12.0 segfaults when I want to drag-drop mounted disk-partitions
listed in left bar.

See attached reproducible segfault in a log attached.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Dolphin
2. Try to drag and drop (rearrange order) by click on a item (root partition
for example) and move mouse cursor while hold click on the selected mounted
linux partitions.
3. Observe a segfault. Dolphin unexpectedly quits.

OBSERVED RESULT
Segmentation fault:
kernel: dolphin[5413]: segfault at 10 ip 7f880ff3e457 sp 7fff993a1410
error 4 in libkdeinit5_dolphin.so[7f880ff1+69000]

ef d2 41 8b 45 18 f2 0f 10 0b 66 0f ef c0 4c 89

EXPECTED RESULT
Arrange mounted partitions in Places panel.
Note that the workaround functions well: to manually rearrange mounted
disk-partitions listed by Dolphin, use Open/Save dialog from a Plasma
application like Kate/Kwrite, Select Files => Save. In opened dialog, you can
rearrange mounted disk-partitions without segfault.

plasmashell starting console output

plasmashell starts with too many warning-level debug outputs.

Most notable since Plasma 5.20.x series is:
kf.plasma.core: findInCache with a lastModified timestamp of 0 is deprecated
kf.plasma.core: findInCache with a lastModified timestamp of 0 is deprecated
kf.plasma.core: findInCache with a lastModified timestamp of 0 is deprecated
kf.plasma.core: findInCache with a lastModified timestamp of 0 is deprecated

which is triggered each time the mouse pointer hovers Icon and items in taskbar
panel, like Shortcut to Application pinned in panel, even in
icon-only-taskmanager.

This introduces lags in overall impression.
Added a text file when you trigger "plasmashell --replace &" in a Terminal
(Konsole).

As you can see below, my system is particular fast but as I use a classical
old-like hard-drive (and not a SSD) to my /var partition, I can listen write
access each time my mouse is moved in Plasmashell. That's not a good solution
in the long term.

I could set this environment variable in /etc/environment:
QT_LOGGING_RULES='*=false'

But this not a satisfactory situation.

--- Comment #61 from Aurélien Oudelet (auroud85_fr) ---
This is said to be fixed in 5.19.3 with this:
https://invent.kde.org/plasma/plasma-workspace/-/commit/ef4b84869612318ecb3cec44bd6c713ad545114f

But it is not the case.
According to:
(In reply to Martin Schnitkemper from comment #60)
> As I told already months before, it has nothing to do with the sound, the
> problem is that events are not handldes correctly on sign on. You can
> easily verify that if you configure a another action like writing a logfile
> on logon-/logoff-event, and you realize that log entries are written on
> logoff but not on logon.
>
> Developers should watch in that direction, than always and only to a missing
> sound.

The issue is weird.

Workaround in Comment 49 still work with 5.20.1 under Mageia Caulron, but seems
to delay te end of KSplash to the end of the sound file to be played.
This needs some testing on my side.

Best regards,

It's a race... ;) and don't get me wrong:
You make a great job for Plasma, each new day! Our congrats.

And, yeah, these releases should be aligned.

Also, KF5.74 was released on September 06th, 2020 and Plasma 5.20 milestone is
set to be released on October 13th, 2020. So too long time.

We already have users on Magiea who don't understand what is going on.

This functionality should has been released with KF 5.75 (October release) and
Plasma 5.20 launched on same date, we can't ship Plasma Workspace 5.20
currently in Beta state.

Hi,

On my system,
Operating System: Mageia 8
KDE Plasma Version: 5.19.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.74.0
Qt Version: 5.15.1
Kernel Version: 5.8.10-desktop-1.mga8
OS Type: 64-bit
Processors: 4 × Intel® Core™ i5-6600K CPU @ 3.50GHz
Memory: 15.6 Gio of RAM
Graphics Processor: GeForce GTX 1660 Ti/PCIe/SSE2

This functionality breaks this setting on X11:
In KDE System Settings-Window Management-Window Behaviour-Advanced tab-Window
placement.

whatever you select (centered, minimal overlapping, random, left-corner,...),
all new instance of already launched GUI app use last position, overlapping
integrally the n-1 window. Tiling function is broken.

Select "Centered" for example. You expect all new window are at the center of
the screen.
Nope, if you have already the app in the past, it will use past position, not
the center of the screen. So functionality of above setting is broken,
misbehaving.

Even I know there will be a GUI toggle in Plasma Workspace 5.20, this is not
the case on 5.19.5.
So, no, this is broken.
The release of this functionality should be delayed until availability of GUI
option.
This should have been released in the same time of Plasma Workspace 5.20.

I know it is a side effect of KF5 released each month and Plasma every 4 month
or so.

[plasmashell] [Bug 422948] Startup sound does not play; system muted until after login

2020-09-05 Thread Aurélien Oudelet
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=422948

--- Comment #49 from Aurélien Oudelet (auroud85_fr) ---
I managed this workaround:
Write a .desktop file in /etc/xdg/autostart/ like this:
touch /etc/xdg/autostart/org.kde.plasma_startup_sound.desktop
vi /etc/xdg/autostart/org.kde.plasma_startup_sound.desktop

Add this:
[Desktop Entry]
Exec=/usr/bin/paplay /usr/share/sounds/Oxygen-Sys-Log-In-Short.ogg
Name=Plasma Desktop Startup Sound
Type=Application
X-KDE-StartupNotify=false
OnlyShowIn=KDE;
Icon=plasma
NoDisplay=true

Save file.
Reboot.
Booh. Startup sound played !!

This is hacky. Needs paplay binary from PulseAudio (generaly on all Linux
systems meanwhile)
BUT end-user doesn't have to write this type of hack.

SUMMARY
Lots of apps from Plasma and kwin_x11 display lot of warning level error in
journal like this:

qt.qpa.xcb: QXcbConnection: XCB error: 8 (BadMatch), sequence: 20456, resource
id: 54526467, major code: 130 (Unknown), minor code: 3

Current versions on Cauldron (Kmail and Dolphin 20.04.3, kwin_X11 5.19.4,...)

This issue was previously reported against an error 9:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=366421
today is error 8...

and:
https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-55167

where a fix is provided but seems to not function.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Simply move mouse cursor on these apps (on menu, on icons,...)
2. See logs (Konsole, journalctl -f)

OBSERVED RESULT
Simply moving mouse cursor on interface like menu, icons, plasmmoids.
Lots of warning level logs from kwin_X11, Kmail 20.04.3, Dolphin 20.04.3.
Some lags on interface when too much log output.

EXPECTED RESULT
No error at all as GUI seems to work some.
Or no error but debug or notice.

[plasmashell] [Bug 425051] Debug logging and useless logging in system log by qt and plasma5 programs

2020-08-06 Thread Aurélien Oudelet
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=425051

--- Comment #2 from Aurélien Oudelet (auroud85_fr) ---
I agree distributions should not deactivate that logging with an ENV setting.

BUT, these logging should not be output at warning level:
there is any broken functionality, GUI "just works" some.

Listening hard-drives (not SSD), use of Plasma produces more noises from that
harddrives than other DE. These logging fills up to much datas to journal,
encumbering it, degrades performance and reduces lifetime of these supports.
Mounting /var/log as tmpfs workarounds lifetime but it not a viable solution
for end-users.

This is an upstream bug, not in Mageia RPM.

Suggestion:
There is a KCM panel "User Feedback" in Systemsetting. These debug or notice
level logs should be activated by a checkbox in this KCM Systemsettings. Some
awesome developer should place this checkbox there or he should make a solution
by disabling all such logging if user deactivates all feedback.
