Bug ID: 426222
Summary: No thumbnails for XCF (GIMP) Images with more than 8
Bit precision per channel
   Product: digikam
   Version: 7.0.0
  Platform: openSUSE RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR

Test image with 32Bit floating point precision per channel

GIMP 2.10 now can save XCF images with more than 8Bit Precision per channel.
Digikam don't show thumbnail images for this files. I attached a test image to
the bug report to reproduce this behavior. I tested this with digikam 6.4.0
(openSUSE Leap 15.1 package) and 7.0.0 (appimage).

For example this images are created by the following workflow:
Open RAW from digikam in GIMP 2.10 -> Rawtherapee plugin starts -> Finish work
in Rawtherapee -> GIMP opens the image -> Finish work in GIMP and save as XCF

Sure, it is possible to reduce the precision in GIMP but this is not really a
solution.

I know, I can even send this bug report to the KDE framework or Imagemagick
which are used by digikam to load XCF files. It seems none of them can handle
XCF files with higher precision.

Btw. Is there a way to save a thumbnail as an additional file for the XCF which
is than used by digikam?

I just tested this behavior with digikam 6.4.0 and 7.0.0 (appimage) again and
can't reproduce it anymore. So in my opinion this bug can be closed.

[frameworks-kimageformats] [Bug 360821] Show xcf files (from Gimp 2.9) not (yet...) working

2018-08-04 Thread Bernd Lachner

Is there no way to reuse the XCF load/save code from the gimp source for the
xcf kimage format plugin? Is it really necessary to implement it from scratch?
I think support for the new xcf format in the xcf kimage format now is even
more important as GIMP 2.10 is released. For example, digikam now can't show
many xcf files saved with GIMP 2.10.

I can confirm this behavior with openSUSE Leap 15.0 (Plasma 5.12.5, Frameworks
5.45.0) on the client and Samba 4.6.14 on the server.

Dolphin shows nothing with smb:// if I go to the share directly in Dolphin it
works. With smbtree the shares are showing correctly.

The following file on the client helps, thank you:
~/.smb/smb.conf
[global]
client max protocol = NT1

But it would be better do solve this issue in the smb kio plugin directly.

XCF / GIMP file which don't load with the XCF KImageFormats plugin

It seems that the KImageFormat plugin for XCF / GIMP files can't handle bigger
files correctly.

The file attached (16000x18000 pixels) at least, don't load in Digikam,
Dolphin, Okular, Gwenview and Showfoto. Especially that its failed in Digikam
is annoying for me. Even preview thumbnails can't be created.

GIMP 2.8.18 handles this file without problems on my system. I use such large
files for creating picture collages.
