https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=485622 Bob Miller changed: What|Removed |Added CC||rmiller...@gmail.com --- Comment #2 from Bob Miller --- This is a HUGE problem that needs to be fixed. I don't know if the problem is Ubuntu or KDE but the admin setting in a user's profile is no longer working. If have 3 systems running 22.04 LTS. In all of them, the request for authentication while running as an admin user has disappeared. Example: Discover The program retrieves the Updates Hit Update button Nothing happens It used to be that the authentication window would appear, type in password, and proceed This lack of asking for authentication is also in making changes to users, network address -- anything that used to trigger an authentication request. [kstars] [Bug 468969] New: Implement STOP Command in Plate Solve when Camera is Busy
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=468969 Bug ID: 468969 Summary: Implement STOP Command in Plate Solve when Camera is Busy Classification: Applications Product: kstars Version: 3.6.4 Platform: Kubuntu OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: mutla...@ikarustech.com Reporter: rmiller...@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY *** NOTE: If you are reporting a crash, please try to attach a backtrace with debug symbols. See https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports *** STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. 2. 3. OBSERVED RESULT When a Plate Solve is initiated, and the system detects the camera as busy, the Plate Solve routine goes into a series of waits at 10 sec, 20 sec, 40 sec, etc etc waiting for the camera to become unbusy. Often times (more like usually) the camera is not busy. The system thinks the camera is busy, but there is no apparent indication to the user. The problem is that, when the Plate Solver starts these delays as the user searches for why the system thinks the camera is busy, the STOP button is grayed out! Sometimes the only solution is to quit the session, then restart. The simple solution would seem to be to let the user STOP the process as soon as the Plate Solve routine says the camera is busy so the user can find where the system thinks the camera is busy before the Ekos embarks on a long wait sequence. One example of where the system thinks the camera is busy when it is not is the Focus module. If the camera is doing loop capture and the STOP button is hit in the Focus module, the Plate Solve module will always say the camera is busy. After hitting STOP when doing Focus looping, run the camera once in a Single Shot mode. That usually clears the conflict. There are a multitude of TLE files in /home/bob/.local/kstars. These files used to contain the two line element (TLE) representations of the satellites. Now those files all say something like Document Moved Object MovedThis document may be found http://celestrak.org/NORAD/elements/geodetic.txt;>here and that's it. No data. If one goes to http://celestrak.org/NORAD/elements/geodetic.txt you will find all the geodetic satellite TLEs. However, updating the satellite data via Kstars loads the same empty files. A workaround is to go to the NORAD site and download the data into the appropriate .tle file. Kstars will read that data, plot the satellites, find a satellite in the Pointing menu, etc. However, after downloading and saving a .tle file, make sure to change the r/w permissions to read only; otherwise the next satellite update will overwrite with an essentially blank file. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=443653 --- Comment #9 from Bob Miller --- Most of the stars do have other names, but it's not as simple as R And -> Rho And. R And is HD1967 in the Henry Draper Catalog. These star names are from the variable star catalog, which contains about 57k entries. The first variable star in a constellation gets designated R <3 letter constellation name>. The ninth star in a constellation is Z <3 letter constellation name>, and then the next star is RR <3 letter constellation name>. When taking data on variable stars we're usually given the name from the variable star catalog, so having the ability to do a query in the Pointing dialogue, then have the scope go to that star is helpful. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[kstars] [Bug 443653] New: Find Object in Pointing Menu Can't Find Objects Loaded by User with Only One Letter Preceding Constellation
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=443653 Bug ID: 443653 Summary: Find Object in Pointing Menu Can't Find Objects Loaded by User with Only One Letter Preceding Constellation Product: kstars Version: 3.5.5 Platform: Ubuntu Packages OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: mutla...@ikarustech.com Reporter: rmiller...@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- KStars gives the user the ability to load a user created catalog via Configure KStars. If star names are loaded with only one letter identifying the star, e.g., R And, S Ant, the stars do not appear in the Pointing -> Find Object menu. If the object has two letters (SS Ant), that object does appear in Find Object. The reason for this importance is that the first variable star in a constellation always starts with the single letter R. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Create a CSV file with star names, RA/Dec, other useful info, like magnitude 2. In the Settings -> Configure KStars -> Catalogs page, select "Manage Deep Sky Catalogs." Although this is supposedly for Deep Sky objects, you can use this function for any object you wish. 3. Create a catalog, like a CSV copy of the variable star catalog, where some of the stars have only one letter before the constellation abbreviation (e.g., R And) and other stars have two letters before the constellation (RR And). 4. Go through the steps to load the user defined CSV catalog. Process is very straightforward. 5.While still in the Create Catalog page, look for the single letter star. It's there. 6.Go to Pointing -> Find Object page. Look for that star. Cannot be found. 7.Go back to the Create Catalog page. Change the star name, e.g., make R And -> RQ And 8.Return to pointing menu. RQ And can be found.
