[kwin] [Bug 431954] KWin OpenGL acceleration causes flickering and stale content

2021-01-27 Thread CarlosE
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=431954

--- Comment #1 from CarlosE  ---
After more testing, the bug seems to be absent after when using
xf86-video-intel.

In fact, there is now tearing in the Xorg modesetting driver (when compositing
is disabled) that didn't use to be there. I don't know how to debug this issue,
but I'm starting to suspect the modesetting driver, rather than KWin, is the
culprit.

[kwin] [Bug 431954] New: KWin OpenGL acceleration causes flickering and stale content

2021-01-22 Thread CarlosE
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=431954

Bug ID: 431954
   Summary: KWin OpenGL acceleration causes flickering and stale
content
   Product: kwin
   Version: 5.20.5
  Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: compositing
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: carana2...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Using OpenGL hardware accelaration with vsync on KWin causes programs to
flicker and render stale content.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Choose OpenGL as render infrastructure
2. Set Tearing Prevention to something other than none.
3. Enable compositing.
3. Open programs that have large sections that need constant repainting (such
as fast scrolling (sideways and vertically) in Okular, tabbing in a terminal,
or blinking carets.

OBSERVED RESULT
KWin will render stale content (flicker between the current frame and a stale
frame from a few miliseconds prior) and cause vertical screen tearing. This is
especially noticeable in Okular (when scrolling fast), LibreOffice and Konsole
(when the caret blinks).

It is absent when compositing is disabled, in screen recordings via Xcomposite,
and when vsync is forced via _GL_SYNC_TO_VBLANK (when Tearing Prevention is set
to Never).

EXPECTED RESULT
KWin should the current window content without the need to disable compositing
or using Mesa environment variables.

[lattedock] [Bug 411459] New: Latte hangs with Superkey

2019-08-30 Thread CarlosE
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=411459

Bug ID: 411459
   Summary: Latte hangs with Superkey
   Product: lattedock
   Version: 0.9.1
  Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: minor
  Priority: NOR
 Component: application
  Assignee: mvourla...@gmail.com
  Reporter: carana2...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Latte Dock temporarily hangs if Super Key is pressed a while after it is open.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open with Terminal logging + Super Key held
2. Notice that it will show normally the Super + Key shortcuts (note: I've
activated the Latte shortcuts at the Control panel)
3. Wait for the following string to show
```
gpg-connect-agent: no running gpg-agent - starting '/usr/bin/gpg-agent'
gpg-connect-agent: waiting for the agent to come up ... (5s)
gpg-connect-agent: connection to agent established
```
4. Press Super key again. It will hang for a few dozen seconds (15-30), then
resume operation, until Super is pressed and held again.

OBSERVED RESULT
Latte stops responding: no animations, no response to mouse, and won't respond
to neither SIGTERM nor SIGINT.

EXPECTED RESULT
Latte should simply show possible Key combinations with SUPER at each icon's
top left corner.
