SUMMARY
Downloaded a Mi phone firmware file in zip format, around 4.6 Gib in size.
Then moved it to the phone storage, like in tens seconds after file downloaded.
Got the first baloo_file_extractor crash and then kept getting them until I
restored the index file from backup.
(Not copied the firmware file, moved it, what can be the cause of the crash,
but not for the database damage in my opinion - until the file is indexed
completely there should be nothing written to index file. If the file is
deleted during indexing baloo_file_extractor should not crash. Is it keeping
lock on it during indexing?)

(In reply to tagwerk19 from comment #6)

You were right, it is doubled. I do have 363696 regular files in home folder.
(cd &&  find . \( ! -regex '.*/\..*' \) -type f | wc -l)

Stopped, purged, logged off/on, started, got again surprised that it asks for
Computer restart after enabling it (at least in GUI of Settings).

2023-11-04 Thread David Kredba
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=476479

Both the mdb_copy and mdb_stat commands understand the index file structure and
Baloo continues to index content of my files
without complaining so I think its structure was not damaged by the crash. I
will let it go.
After it (maybe) will finish it I can run some searches to see if documents are
found once only.
Can I dump/export it to text file? There are a mdb_dump and mdb_load binaries.
I will try.
Are there sanity/health checks for the index file BTW?

My system uses OpenRC.
I started the indexing on KF 5.110, during the compilation it was paused.
I am definitely not going to try to really use it (but I would like to!) if I
will be told that after each KF5/6 upgrade touching Baloo it will need
re-indexing. That would be terrible waste of energy and time. It should be
programed the way that it will make needed internal changes of existing index
file after each incompatible upgrade of Baloo internals.
I am having plenty of literature in pdf and epub formats but was wrongly
thinking it maybe a right size but from the output of the 'balooctl indexSize'
command it may really suggest it went crazy again:
File Size: 67,41 GiB
Used: 2,95 GiB

I will try to reduce its size using the command 'mdb_copy -n -c index
index.new'.

Yes, it does it in 40 pcs batches.

Thank you.

[frameworks-baloo] [Bug 476479] New: baloo_file (baloo_file), signal: Aborted

2023-11-02 Thread David Kredba
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=476479

Bug ID: 476479
   Summary: baloo_file (baloo_file), signal: Aborted
Classification: Frameworks and Libraries
   Product: frameworks-baloo
   Version: 5.111.0
  Platform: Gentoo Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Baloo File Daemon
  Assignee: baloo-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: kre...@kredba.cz
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
I am indexing from scratch, it takes terrible ages (over one month already, 14
hours a day, EXT4 on LUKS2 on
MDRAID on rotating HDDs to index file stored on EXT4 on LUKS2 on SSD) and came
home to see a KCrash handler icon.
There is still 50 GiB of free space on SSD storing the index file.
The 'balooctl status' command returns:
Baloo File Indexer is not running
Total files indexed: 716,213
Files waiting for content indexing: 151,027
Files failed to index: 0
Current size of index is 67.41 GiB

SUMMARY
The baloo_file process crashes each time I ask the Calibre application to do
some action resulting in files/folders renaming.
This time it was author rename in around of 352 records, batch action on tens
of records is enough for crash.
The file system is EXT4.

[frameworks-baloo] [Bug 406868] baloo_file_extractor fails MTimeDB::del with MDB_BAD_TXN, constant high CPU use

2023-05-25 Thread David Kredba
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=406868

I had to rebuild the index file after the "[TermGenerator] Skip all unprintable
characters" change were made, because it broke it.
It worked for a few weeks even with Baloo KF 5.106.0 but last two days KDE
reports crashes like below.
Your repository of lmdb does not support my system's lmdb version so I used
mdb_dump that is present on my FS:

mdb_dump index -na -f /dev/null
mdb.c:5882: Assertion 'IS_BRANCH(mc->mc_pg[mc->mc_top])' failed in
mdb_cursor_sibling()

mdb_copy -n -c index index.new
*** stack smashing detected ***: terminated
Neúspěšně ukončen (SIGABRT)

Index file size is 42360246272 Bytes.

The crash BT:

[kwin] [Bug 463596] New: Screen Scale seems to go to 100 % from 150 % after some session uptime and an icon on the Desktop is clicked

2022-12-29 Thread David Kredba
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=463596

Bug ID: 463596
Summary: Screen Scale seems to go to 100 % from 150 % after
some session uptime and an icon on the Desktop is
clicked
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: 5.26.4
  Platform: Gentoo Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: wayland-generic
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: nheghathivhis...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Screen scale seems to go to 100 % from 150 % after some session uptime and an
icon on the Desktop is clicked. In my case it happens when I try to open a txt
file stored there. Opening is set to double-click event, the re-scaling happens
after the first click is made. The wallpaper downsizes too at the same moment.
Can be 'fixed' by log-of and log-on or by setting Scale to 100 % and back to
150 %. The re-scaling affects played video (mpv) window too.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Use two monitor setup. Left 4K, a Scale set to 150 %, right 1K, a Scale set
to 100 %, KWayland session.
2. Use the session for some time
3. Double-click on an icon on the Desktop

[frameworks-baloo] [Bug 459205] New: Baloo: Files "failed to index" are indexed

2022-09-16 Thread David Kredba
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=459205

Bug ID: 459205
Summary: Baloo: Files "failed to index" are indexed
   Product: frameworks-baloo
   Version: 5.98.0
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: baloo-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: nheghathivhis...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
When Baloo finished file content indexing there were some files reported as
failed to index using 'balooctl status'.
Some of them got indexed using 'balooctl index' FILE but some not.
Balooshow knew the file but complained about old data about the file.

Tried to do the 'balooctl clear' on that files, then balooshow to see they are
gone followed by 'balooctl index' FILE.
All files become indexed, checked by 'balooshow -x' FILE but the same files
were still reported as failed to index.

Did mdb_copy -n -c on the index file (no error reported, file went down in size
by around 10 GiB), left KDE session (logged of), entered KDE session, tried
'balooctl check' what not helped. Tried to clear the files and index them
again, got them indexed again but the same set of "failed" files was reported.

Found workaround, using KDE Settings GUI I set folders with those files to not
be indexed, waited for file count downsized (balooctl status) and then allowed
their indexing again one by one.
After that no failed files are being reported now.

Can this be done more elegant way please?

It crashes too when I try to clear one file using the command 'balooctl clear'.
Baloosearch works, so maybe the database itself is not broken completely this
time.

[konsole] [Bug 443397] Konsole crashes during Firefox PGO+LTO compilation

2021-10-07 Thread David Kredba

David Kredba changed:

   What|Removed |Added

 Status|REPORTED|RESOLVED
 Resolution|--- |NOT A BUG

It seems that it was rollback data eating all the available RAM. I don't have a
swap enabled to protect the SSD (M.2) drive.
I was going down from -flto=16 to 8 and then 4 and it failed all.
Then I saw in 'top' that konsole process started to eat 0.1 GB of RAM each few
seconds and went to its Settings where I set the number of rollback lines from
835240 to 335240. Now it uses 4.5 gb in the top's RES column and it is not
growing.
(It failed before the LTO-WPA and LTO-LTRANS phases all the time.)

I am going to test back the -flto=16.

I am closing this case as RESOLVEDD/NOT A BUG.

Thank you, that is possible, I am running it inside TMPFS:
tmpfs /var/tmp/portage tmpfs
size=27G,uid=portage,gid=portage,mode=775,noatime   0 0
Total RAM is 64 GB.
I am sorry, this possibility not came in my mind.
I will test it again watching memory stats.

[frameworks-baloo] [Bug 437019] Baloo re-indexes content of files moved to another folder

2021-05-18 Thread David Kredba
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=437019

Yes, it is the same after log off/on.

I am testing baloo for years but each time ending with
balooctl disable
balooctl purge
and creating a new KDE profile to be sure that there is nothing left for a new
indexing.

It is getting better and better but never survived yet.

I have 4 TB EXT4 FS created with -b 4096 and not optimized for big files, I
think that that could be the source of the high inode count.

Last indexing try I speeded up using a symlink of .local/share/baloo folder to
a SSD drive. When done I moved it back.

Can someone reproduce it please?
Moving existing files indexed already to another folder and log off/on KDE
session is sufficient for me.

Thank you!

The rsync goes to folder not inside my $HOME and under another user, it is
started in a KDE session using su -.

There are no changes to files stored at $HOME made outside the KDE session.

[frameworks-baloo] [Bug 437019] Baloo re-indexes content of files moved to another folder

2021-05-13 Thread David Kredba
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=437019

Total files count is constant, I tested moves of existing files. Found it when
I needed to ran rsync over ssh in the morning being short on time and saw its
slowness so went to check what is slowing the disks down. Found indexing of
content of files where there was zero to be indexed the day before session
log-off (shut down of the machine).

What grows from zero during log-off/log-on is the count of the files waiting to
be indexed }if there was file move - and rename too). And it is exactly the
count of moved files, it can be seen because I am using it on top of EXT4 fs on
top of LUKS on top of a MD Raid 1 on a pair of rotating hard disks.

Yes, I can see it during "monitor" session.

I set fs.inotify.max_user_watches = 2048000 long time before I started using
Baloo.
find . -type f | wc -l returns 503013, so there is a reserve for inotify.

When I tried "balooctl check" after files moved it not started to index and the
count of files waiting for indexing stayed at 0. Each time I tested it.

I will test the stat case.

Is noatime fine for baloo please? (maybe it can be that simple)
LABEL=HOME  /home   ext4noatime

Thank you.

[frameworks-baloo] [Bug 437019] New: Baloo re-indexes content of files moved to another folder

2021-05-13 Thread David Kredba
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=437019

Bug ID: 437019
Summary: Baloo re-indexes content of files moved to another
folder
   Product: frameworks-baloo
   Version: 5.82.0
  Platform: Gentoo Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: stefan.bru...@rwth-aachen.de
  Reporter: nheghathivhis...@gmail.com
CC: baloo-bugs-n...@kde.org, n...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Files moved to another folder are fully (content) re-indexed after KDE session
re-logon.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create a new folder, copy there some tens of bigger files for example, wait
for them to be indexed
2. Create another folder and move those files to it
3. (Check .xsession-errors file for baloo messages noting each of files moves)
4. Run balooctl status to see that no files are pending indexing
5. Log off your KDE session
6. Log in to your KDE session
7. Run balooctl status to see that moved files are being cotent re-indexed

In my opinion baloo's index file has the file content data and should only
update the path to them instead of re-indexing them.

Kate version 20.12.1.
It does not suggest words where any of the first characters is a letter with
diacritics. For the Czech language words like "Žitná", "Vítězné", and
"Dlážděná" are not suggested for autocomplete. If the diacritics it present
later in the word it suggests it like in the word "Smrčinská".
Locale used is cs_CZ.UTF-8.
(Examples used are a street names in the CZ.)

[frameworks-baloo] [Bug 415132] New: org.kde.baloo.engine: Transaction::commit MDB_BAD_TXN: Transaction must abort, has a child, or is invalid

2019-12-13 Thread David Kredba
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=415132

Bug ID: 415132
   Summary: org.kde.baloo.engine: Transaction::commit MDB_BAD_TXN:
Transaction must abort, has a child, or is invalid
   Product: frameworks-baloo
   Version: 5.64.0
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Engine
  Assignee: stefan.bru...@rwth-aachen.de
  Reporter: nheghathivhis...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Baloo seems to be working in general, returns valid search results for indexed
file content.

Baloo File Indexer is running
Indexer state: Indexing file content
Total files indexed: 446,139
Files waiting for content indexing: 1
Files failed to index: 100
Current size of index is 26.64 GiB

But the xorg-session.log is around 0,5 TB now and growing, full off lines like
org.kde.baloo.engine: Transaction::commit MDB_BAD_TXN: Transaction must abort,
has a child, or is invalid

Performance of MD Raid 1 goes down dew to that.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Have 40+ files that can be indexed
2.
3.

OBSERVED RESULT
Log goes to eat all FS (EXT4) space on home drive

EXPECTED RESULT
Log does not eat all home drive FS space due to logging, baloo not complaining
about "org.kde.baloo.engine: Transaction::commit MDB_BAD_TXN: Transaction must
abort, has a child, or is invalid"

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
KDE Plasma Version: 5.17.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.64.0
Qt Version: 5.13.2

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
64 GiB RAM, gcc-9.2.0, Gentoo ~amd64, fs.inotify.max_user_watches = 1024000

It took my desktop around 14 days to index all on the relatively slow SW RAID 1
made from two 4TB 5900 RPM hard disks. I would really not like to delete the
database and start the indexing from scratch. A fix is much preferred. Can I
fix the database on my system, if it is broken? I will not share its content.

[plasmashell] [Bug 398300] Plasma crashed on copy of ark opened zip file content to a folder

2018-09-05 Thread David Kredba
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=398300

When "Rozbal to" in the Czech language (Un-compress (To)) is used it does not
crash Plasma, it creates a subfolder with archive name and de-compress its
content successfully.
I will try the latest dotted Plasma tomorrow.

Qt Version: 5.11.1
Frameworks Version: 5.49.0
Operating System: Linux 4.18.5-gentoo x86_64
Distribution: "Gentoo Base System release 2.6"

-- Information about the crash:
- What I was doing when the application crashed:
Successfuly decompressed another Windows created zip file to a subfolder.
Opened a zip file from USB Storage (around 1.6 GB, 182 files). Selected all
files (Ctrl + a) and right clicked and Copy and tried to paste to a folder
under of my home folder. It shown an error message that the file from
previously uncompressed file does not exist. Closed the Dolpin (Ark) window
with the previous zip file content and tried to paste again. The same error
message. Closed the zip file, opened it again, selected all, copy, paste and
the same error message about non-existening file in the previous archive file.
Repeated twice or three times and after last try got this back trace.

- Unusual behavior I noticed:

I do not see the Facebook export tool listed in the Export menu of Digikam
version 6.0.0-beta1 compiled from source on Gentoo. Cmake was showing only two
optional components missing during configure phase - libmediawiki and libqav.
Do I miss something or it is not added back yet please?

[frameworks-baloo] [Bug 389848] baloo crash on login

2018-07-17 Thread David Kredba
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=389848

I expect Baloo will take care of not any more usable configuration files and
definitely that it will update the database (structure, anything) so the index
file will not be needed to be deleted and that all the files will not be
indexed from scratch.

[Baloo] [Bug 359038] New: kde-frameworks/baloo-5.18.0 - index is truncated back to 0 Bytes when it reaches 4096 MB

2016-02-05 Thread David Kredba via KDE Bugzilla

Bug ID: 359038
Summary: kde-frameworks/baloo-5.18.0 - index is truncated back
to 0 Bytes when it reaches 4096 MB
   Product: Baloo
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Gentoo Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: General
  Assignee: m...@vhanda.in
  Reporter: nheghathivhis...@gmail.com
CC: pinak.ah...@gmail.com

I am running into this for past few months. Indexing goes fine until Baloo
index database grows close to 4 GiB and then it "truncates" it and all the
search and file content indexing data are gone.

Before:
balooctl status
Baloo File Indexer is running
Indexer state: Idle
Indexed 107651 / 556631 files
Current size of index is 3,95 GiB

After:
balooctl status
Baloo File Indexer is running
Indexer state: Idle
Indexed 107651 / 556631 files
Current size of index is 29,06 MiB
