The issue can also be reproduced when the option "New tasks appear: To the
right" is enabled, even without an RTL language. A vertical panel layout is
also affected.

I might be able to look into this.

Bug ID: 485005
Summary: Bottom Taskbar stays to the left after resizing and
selecting centered.
Classification: I don't know
   Product: kde
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED

SUMMARY
Bottom Taskbar stays to the left after resizing and selecting centered. If I
log out and back in the task bar then moves to the desired location.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Right click on taskbar and select edit mode.
2. Select width and resize.
3. Select alignment and select centered.

OBSERVED RESULT
I can resize but when centered is selected the task bar stays to the left.
I have to logout and log back in for the taskbar to move to the center
position.

EXPECTED RESULT
After resizing the task bar and selecting centered, the taskbar should
automatically move to the center.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=481984

(In reply to Nate Graham from comment #2)
> Does it happen in Firefox?

No. The scrollbar also flickers in sync with the flickering of the menu's and
the menu will flicker when moving the mouse or scrolling after closing it like
old frames are displaying.

link to video of the flickering.
https://streamable.com/znwdze

Other symptoms in chromium browsers is hovering the chrome menu in the top
right, the three dot menu, it will display the highlighted entry on hover but
that lags and jumps all around. When the mouse enters the window everything on
the page flickers and even as I type this right now everything flickers in the
top menu and when I erase text it will delete and then flicker back into view
for a second after it was deleted. It just seems like a general lag in
chromium and it bogs everything else down. Only does this in Wayland as well.

Dolphin in more recent times offers 'delete' via Shift+Del (or holding Shift
while in the context menu of a file changes 'move to wastebin' to 'delete').

Rather than the workaround, i think it would be nice if Kfind had consistent
operation with Dolphin.

This is obviously a nice to have, it's not a bug and with Plasma 6 the focus
right now this will be a low priority in the scheme of things. But i don't
think it should be closed. It seems a very sensible thing to do, when time is
available for someone to do it.

[partitionmanager] [Bug 475201] New: Encrypted EXT4 USB HDD partitions created by KDE Partition Manager are read-only.

2023-10-03 Thread Derek
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=475201

Bug ID: 475201
Summary: Encrypted EXT4 USB HDD partitions created by KDE
Partition Manager are read-only.
Classification: Applications
   Product: partitionmanager
   Version: 23.04.3
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: andr...@stikonas.eu
  Reporter: linux.9v...@simplelogin.co
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
KDE Partition Manager creates encrypted EXT4 USB HDD partitions that are read
only as the user - requires sudo to be able to write.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Insert USB HDD (do not mount)
2. Open KDE Partition Manager
3. Identify HDD, delete existing partitions (and if desired, partition table).
4. Create new partition (and table if removed), select EXT4 w/LUKS encryption.
6. Provide password.
7. Selecting either "everybody" or "root" doesn't make a difference for this
issue (i tried both).
8. Finalise partition creation.
9. Mount HDD, input password.
10. HDD mounts in /run/media/[user]/[label]
11. Try to create/copy a file using Dolphin or Terminal as user.

OBSERVED RESULT
- As the user - read access works, write access = permission denied in
terminal. In Dolphin, the 'new' or 'paste' option is greyed out or not present.
- Using sudo, i could write files via the terminal.

EXPECTED RESULT
Should be able to copy files or create files as user.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Nobara 38
KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.8
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.109.0
Qt Version: 5.15.10

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I performed the relevant procedure in gnome-disk-utility with the same
hardware, and it worked as expected. I could write files to the HDD after i
mount and input the password.

[Powerdevil] [Bug 472008] New: Controlling monitor brightness over ddcutil sometimes unreliable

2023-07-06 Thread Derek Christ
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=472008

Bug ID: 472008
Summary: Controlling monitor brightness over ddcutil sometimes
unreliable
Classification: Plasma
   Product: Powerdevil
   Version: 5.27.6
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: christ.de...@gmail.com
CC: m...@ratijas.tk, natalie_clar...@yahoo.de
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Controlling the brightness of the monitor using ddcutil generally works but is
wonky sometimes. (Due to the nature of ddcutil) it takes a short time until the
monitor has adjusted the brightness (like half a second). Therefore, for
example changing the brightness by scrolling on the brightness applet feels
choppy as it seems it does a blocking wait until the monitor reported the
changed brightness value.

Also, when the monitor is dimmed to a lower brightness value and is powered off
by Plasma because of no user input , it sometimes fails to reset to the
previous brightness setting when waking up the monitor again. It just stays at
the lowest brightness setting.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Change brightness by scrolling on the brightness control bar icon/applet
2. It feels very choppy

OBSERVED RESULT
It feels very choppy

EXPECTED RESULT
The brightness target value should be overwritten immediately, with the actual
monitor brightness following at a later point in time (when the ddcutil
communication succeeded)

Yes I started getting random screen freezes, which logging out and back in
solves and still odd freezing or extreme lag caused by some kind of task
manager event like right clicking icon, moving icon, hovering. It seems to be
random because I went almost a day and a half without any noticeable problems
and then it just seems to happen at random.

Same issue. Everything was working and somewhere I along the way I was trying

driver installed blacklisting. either way I reverted back to the nvidia and
for somereason now had mirroring happening and took me a minute to realize the
monitors where stacked on top of each other in the Settings -> Display and
Monitor settings window and I dragged the monitor off the other one and made
them side by side and when I did that's when the black monitor happened. If i
orient the monitor to vertical or upside down it displays normally but when I
switch back to normal orientation it turns black. very strange.

Other GUI interfaces do not seem to have a clear answer to this question either
(Firefox, Windows, MacOS, ...) and most tend to place the submenu directly at
the end of the highlight. So both possibilities may be valid.

Perhaps the goal of the bug report should be to make it consistent in Plasma,
based on the style that is more accepted among the community.

SUMMARY
When there is not much space left on the disk, KIO will not try to duplicate
(Ctrl+D) files or directories that would take up more space than is left.
On BTRFS, however, due to the deduplication, this operation will not take up

Category not selected

SUMMARY
Sometimes, the category the mouse is currently hovering over is not selected,
even after the short timeout period of the triangular mouse filter. This mostly
happens when moving the mouse diagonally to the upper left direction.

This bug is caused by the triangular mouse filter that wrongfully filters a
hover event and consequently does not re-select the category after the timeout
period as the conditions for the filtering were actually not given.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open kickoff
2. Move mouse diagonally to the upper left over a category

OBSERVED RESULT
Category is not selected, even after the timeout

EXPECTED RESULT
Category should be selected. Also, there should not be a timeout, as the
conditions for the triangular filtering are not matched.

Yes, in general the timeout of the mouse filter works. But sometimes it happens
that a selection is not made, although the timer should have expired.
This happens mostly when you make a fast jerky movement diagonally to the upper

implement it that way, that the navigation history is cloned.

SUMMARY
It would be a nice addition to be able to duplicate the current Dolphin tab by
middle clicking the refresh button. This already works on many browsers
(Firefox, ...) and is a useful feature.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Add refresh button to toolbar if not present
2. Middle click it

OBSERVED RESULT
Nothing happens

EXPECTED RESULT
Open the same tab in a new tab.

I experience the same issue with BTRFS. I want to add, that I'm also using LUKS
disk encryption, but I'm not sure if this is related at all.
Moving files to trash take several seconds for me, sometimes even longer. When
using XFCE's file manager Thunar test wise, the deletion process finishes
almost immediately.

The trash folder is in the same BTRFS subvolume as the deleted files.

SUMMARY
It's possible to do Ctrl-Z and restore the previous written text in the
password entry field.
Consider the scenario where a user partly enters the password but then decides
to something else and not unlock the screen. The user then clears the password
field thinking the password cannot be restored by some other person.
Some other person can now hit Ctrl-Z and restore the password and make it
visible by clicking on the eye symbol.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Type something in the lock screen password field
2. Delete it
3. Hit Ctrl-Z

OBSERVED RESULT
Password restored

EXPECTED RESULT
Ctrl-Z should not be possible

SUMMARY
Some applications open a separate window and then it switches back to the icon.
There are times when the windows stays separated from the launcher even though
open seperate is disabled. I have noticed this with chromium and chromium
based browsers more notably Brave. Other apps periodically have this happen as
well. In screenshot i took I just clicked on Brave icon to left but for a few
seconds it will open a separate window all the way to the right instead of
expanding the icon in place. Sometimes it doesn't go back to the Brave icon
and then the Brave icon on the left always opens new windows instead of
expanding icon.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open app
2. It opens separate launcher

SUMMARY
Printing on an ipp printer that requires authentication does not ask for a
password and consequently does not print. The only way I found it to work is to
set it up using the full ipp:// url like so: ipp://user:p...@server.com.
Note that this leaks on the password in clear text into the system log, as
pointed out in bug 441948.

When the printer is set up without providing the password in the url, printing
does not work.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Add an ipp printer that requires authentication
2. Print a document
3. You will not be asked for authentication

OBSERVED RESULT
The document will not be printed

EXPECTED RESULT
The user should get asked for the username and password. Also the system should
ask if the password should be saved into KWallet.

Context menu on desktop

SUMMARY
Submenus in menus get horizontally misplaced since the addition of the new
outer margins of hightlight in menus.
The submenu is placed at the edge of the highlight instead of the menu itself
which looks weird. I attached a screenshot that shows the misplacement of the
submenu.

The Breeze Style for QQC2 is not affected by this bug as far as I can tell. I
also attached a screenshot from the system-monitor where the submenu gets
correctly aligned to the main menu and not the highlight.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Run the git master version of Plasma

   Product: plasmashell

OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Folder
  Assignee: h...@kde.org
  Reporter: christ.de...@gmail.com
CC: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY
Since https://invent.kde.org/plasma/plasma-desktop/-/merge_requests/836 it's
multiple items that get dragged onto the desktop will get properly placed at
the cursor position.
A result of this, however, is that dragging multiple items onto the desktop in
the bottom right corner makes the view scrollable because some items get placed
outside of the visible space.
This might almost never be the intend of the user.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Drop at least two files from Dolphin over to the desktop
2. Drop it in the bottom right corner
3. Scrollbar appears

OBSERVED RESULT
Scrollbar appears, item gets placed outside of the view

EXPECTED RESULT
Maybe the dropped items should shift backwards so that none gets dropped
outside of the view.

Rubber band bug

SUMMARY
Sometimes, when a rubber band selection is made over an item, it will not clear
up when the item was deleted. The selection just stays even when the left mouse
button is no longer being held down.
This happens somewhat irregularly and I wasn't able to figure out under which
circumstances this bug appears and when not.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Make a rubber band selection containing one item
2. Delete the item with the delete key
3. The selection is still there when releasing the left mouse button

OBSERVED RESULT
Selection stays

EXPECTED RESULT
Selection should vanish

Bug ID: 447066
Summary: Ark doesn't compress dir to 7z, and sometimes crashes
Dolphin.
   Product: ark
   Version: 21.12.0
  Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal

SUMMARY
***
NOTE: If you are reporting a crash, please try to attach a backtrace with debug
symbols.
See
https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports
***

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Within Dolphin, elect to compress with 7zip via right-click.
2. Accept defaults (no changes to compression or name or anything).
3. Compression begins, but doesn't finish. Progress keeps going...

Using ZIP works fine.

OBSERVED RESULT
- Ark seems to run forever - progress indicator doesn't finish.
- Resultant 7zip file SEEMS ok, but i don't trust it.
- Ark didn't crash, but Dolphin did when i clicked 'stop' in the notification
area. I don't think this was every time, but it happened several times. I
submitted a bug and saved the file (below).
- When i had two instances of Dolphin open, the 2nd instance would open a tab
in the directory i'm working in (odd!)
- Notification area error box showed:
Dolphin
Compressing 26 files (Failed)
Application closed unexpectedly.

EXPECTED RESULT
Compression to show as finished.

The task manager is the only applet that is not affected, as far as I can tell.
I also noticed that this bug only appears when the height of the applet is
bigger than a certain amount.

[plasmashell] [Bug 446880] New: [X11] Clickable area of applets do not expand to the screen edges when 2x global scaling is activated

2021-12-12 Thread Derek Christ
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=446880

Bug ID: 446880
Summary: [X11] Clickable area of applets do not expand to the
screen edges when 2x global scaling is activated
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.23.4
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Panel
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: christ.de...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY
In X11, when using global scaling (I tested with 2x), it is no longer possible
to click applets in the panel that are right on the edge of the screen by
moving the cursor in the edge of the screen.
For example the kickoff menu cannot be opened by moving the cursor to the
bottom left of the screen and the "Show desktop" / "Minimize all windows"
applet cannot be triggered by moving the cursor in the bottom right corner.
You have to exactly click the button.
This issue does not occur when the global scaling is disabled, and I also
cannot confirm this bug on Wayland.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Set global scaling to 2x on X11
2. Log out, back in
3. Move cursor to the bottom left corner or bottom right corner and try to
trigger an applet

OBSERVED RESULT
Nothing happens

EXPECTED RESULT
Menus should open / applets should trigger

Sadly this is needed to fix bug 425997.
What do you think about removing the filter as soon as the context menu closes?
So that it is only installed on QAppliaction when the menu is actually open.

[kate] [Bug 442469] New: Running a external tool on saving.

2021-09-15 Thread Derek Christ

Bug ID: 442469
Summary: Running a external tool on saving.

  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: kwrite-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: christ.de...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
It would be a nice convenience to be able to run a external tool every time the
user saves the current file. For example by saving the file a code formatter
tool could run and format all changes.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Setup a external tool to run on save
2. Every time the user saves, the tool runs

OBSERVED RESULT
Not yet possible, to my understanding.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: openSUSE Tumbleweed 20210913
KDE Plasma Version: 5.22.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.85.0
Qt Version: 5.15.2

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
It's possible to do something similar with hacks. Just assign Ctrl+S on the
external tool and config the tool that it will save the current file before
running.
But this is not a very nice solution to the problem.

[kate] [Bug 442468] New: Running a formatter as external tool prevents usage of Ctrl+Z

OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: kwrite-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: christ.de...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Running a formatter as an external tool has the ability to save the current
file, apply the tool, and reloading it afterwards.
For formatting this works great but the reloading of the file wipes the Ctrl+Z
buffer and its no longer possible to revert stuff that happened before the
formatting.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Make some changes to a file
2. Run the clang-format formatter tool on the whole file
3. Reverting changes before the formatting with Ctrl+Z is no longer possible.

OBSERVED RESULT
Ctrl+Z does nothing, because the file was reloaded.

EXPECTED RESULT
It should still be possible to revert old changes.
Other code editors I know of just revert the whole formatting when the user
presses Ctrl+Z right after formatting. All other changes before that are also
revertable.

Introduce RemoveAction for context menu

The RemoveAction can either represent the delete action or the move to
trash action, depending on the shift modifier state.
This inplace swapping instead of adding and removing both actions fixes
a visual glitch that could be noticed by pressing and releasing the
shift key multiple times.

Summary: Dark Mode for Kid3 on MacOS
   Product: kid3
   Version: unspecified

OS: macOS
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: uflei...@users.sourceforge.net
  Reporter: johndoeiscom...@yahoo.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Kid3 is needing a dark mode for MacOS. When I'm editing songs at night, my eyes
hurts from the light mode when all of my other applications are in dark mode, I
think this would be a nice addition.

The outline and icon of an element look weird.

This may also be the cause why the applet for the hidden systray elements is so
blurry even without any scrolling.

Bug ID: 439066
Summary: Add ability to scroll through PDF-preview
   Product: dolphin
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: panels: information
  Assignee: dolphin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: christ.de...@gmail.com
CC: kfm-de...@kde.org

SUMMARY
It would be nice if the PDF preview that is already displayed by Dolphin in the
information panel would be scrollable. Either by providing a scrollbar or by
two buttons that add the ability to browse though the pages of the document.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Select a PDF document
2. See that the first page of the document is shown in the preview

OBSERVED RESULT
Only the first page is show.

EXPECTED RESULT
Scrollbar / or buttons that add the ability to browse the preview

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
(I have to say this) Windows has such a feature.

[plasmashell] [Bug 438930] New: Visual glitch in context menu when the shift modifier key is pressed

2021-06-19 Thread Derek Christ
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=438930

Bug ID: 438930
Summary: Visual glitch in context menu when the shift modifier
key is pressed
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: master
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Folder
  Assignee: h...@kde.org
  Reporter: christ.de...@gmail.com
CC: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: 1.0

  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=139527=edit
Glitch

SUMMARY
When the shift modifier key is pressed while a context menu of a file or folder
is open, a visual glitch appears at the bottom of the context menu. Please see
my picture.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Go to desktop
2. Right click on a file
3. Press and release shift

OBSERVED RESULT
Visual glitch

EXPECTED RESULT
No glitch

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: openSUSE Tumbleweed 20210616
KDE Plasma Version: 5.22.80
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.84.0
Qt Version: 5.15.2

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I have found this bug while working on Bug 425997. I will probably fix this bug
myself soon. I think the glitch appears because the eventfilter of the context
menu swaps the "move to trash" action with the delete action instead of
changing it in place. I think doing it like Dolphin and switching the action in
place will resolve this issue.

[kdenlive] [Bug 437007] New: Compositions will not work on Video2 or above at the end of a clip

2021-05-12 Thread Derek
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=437007

Bug ID: 437007
Summary: Compositions will not work on Video2 or above at the
end of a clip
   Product: kdenlive
   Version: 21.04.0
  Platform: Mint (Ubuntu based)
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Effects & Transitions

Created attachment 138377

Screenshot of the way to create the clip that doesn't work

SUMMARY
Compositions will not work on Video2 or above when added to the end of a clip.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Make a title clip in Video2 or higher
2. Add a composition (i.e. wipe, dissolve) to the end of the title clip

OBSERVED RESULT
Playback or render the video and the composition will not work

EXPECTED RESULT
Composition will work properly as it does in Video1.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux Mint 19.3

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This feature used to work properly in all video tracks and now it only works in
Video1. This started halfway through working on a project and is not resolved
if I start a new project from scratch. If I load an old project prior to this
issue, it will work fine.
