[plasmashell] [Bug 425271] XembedSNIProxy causes "high" cpu usage

2022-07-27 Thread Dominik Stańczak
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=425271

I've done a little more digging with the geometry. There are "bad" layouts,
where XembedSNIProxy is noisy, and "good layout", where it doesn't complain.
If the config is wrong, xembedsniproxy dumps hundreds of thousands of logs. I
initially thought they were being printed periodically, roughly every 30s, for
about 2s, but they were instead simply getting suppressed by systemd, given
`systemd-journald[218]: [] Suppressed 195123 messages from user@1000.service)`
reocurring.

I'm going to attach a few screenshots of the "map" of layouts, but the gist is:
in a dual monitor setting, IF the external monitor is to the right of the main
monitor AND has its top border anywhere above the extent of the main monitor,
xembedsniproxy starts spamming. This is true whether the external monitor is in
horizontal or vertical mode.

Does anyone have ideas on why that might be?

Oh wow, yeah, I just tried reproducing Kevin Gagnon's "workaround" and placing
the laptop screen to the left of the external screen in system settings does
stop xembedsniproxy from spamming to the journal. That's pretty mindblowing.

To specify, my settings change changed the following two lines of `xrandr`
output:

eDP-1 connected primary 1920x1080+0+420 (normal left inverted right x axis y
axis) 344mm x 194mm
HDMI-1-0 connected 1080x1920+1920+0 left (normal left inverted right x axis y

kglobalshortcutsrc file generated through activity manager, and through global
shortcuts, for comparison

While this bug does still occur, Ivan's fix does help sidestep it. I'm
attaching an example of the relevant part of the kglobalshortcutsrc file as
generated through Global Shortcuts and through the Activity Manager.

I notice two things:

* Global shortcuts go "hotkey, none", while Activity manager does "none, hotkey"
- adding the set hotkey as the secondary one
* ActivityManager generates a bunch of spurious activities the IDs of which I
haven't been able to track down.

Screenshot of missing Configure button

SUMMARY
Notifications sent via libnotify from certain non-KDE applications (such as
https://github.com/kevinschoon/pomo) or from notify-send have no Configure
option, and as such cannot be set to show up despite Do Not Disturb mode.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. open up a terminal
2. `notify-send 'test'`
3. open up the KNotifications panel

OBSERVED RESULT

notify-send notifications have no Configure button, in contrast to other
applications such as Discord and Discover

EXPECTED RESULT

It would be nice to let them be configured somehow, since at this moment Do Not
Disturb (which is an amazing and much welcome feature) simply filters all of
them.

suggests that if KAlarm used KNotification instead of creating custom windows,
this would be a non-issue.

Unexpectedly, I don't even have a plugins directory! lib64 is there, though.

05:50:38 dominik: ~ $ ls /usr/lib64/plugins/kf5/kirigami
ls: cannot access '/usr/lib64/plugins/kf5/kirigami': No such file or directory
05:51:42 dominik: ~ $ ls /usr/lib64/plugins

[plasmashell] [Bug 402815] New: Plasma shell crash on changing wallpaper on second screen

2019-01-03 Thread Dominik Stańczak
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=402815

Bug ID: 402815
Summary: Plasma shell crash on changing wallpaper on second
screen
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.14.4
  Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Keywords: drkonqi
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: k...@davidedmundson.co.uk
  Reporter: stanczakdomi...@gmail.com
CC: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: 1.0

Application: plasmashell (5.14.4)

Qt Version: 5.12.0
Frameworks Version: 5.53.0
Operating System: Linux 4.20.0-arch1-1-ARCH x86_64
Distribution (Platform): Archlinux Packages

-- Information about the crash:
I was changing my wallpaper from Folder View with a large (7.2Mb) wallpaper to
one of the default Image ones. This was on my second screen, plugged in via
HDMI to my nvidia card with intel-virtual-output. When I switched from
"Slideshow" to "Image", the plasma shell crashed and restarted after a few
seconds. This did not occur as I tried again, but I've had this crash before,
so it's not a one-off thing.

The crash can be reproduced sometimes.

-- Backtrace:
Application: Plasma (plasmashell), signal: Segmentation fault
