[kinfocenter] [Bug 486378] New: Memory leak when opening Info Center

2024-04-30 Thread Jaime Antonio Gonzalez
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=486378

Bug ID: 486378
Summary: Memory leak when opening Info Center
Classification: Applications
   Product: kinfocenter
   Version: 6.0.4
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: enigma1052...@gmail.com
CC: sit...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

Open info center (kinfocenter)

OBSERVED RESULT

RAM usage skyrockets instantly, depending on the system load, it can lead to a
complete lockup, or it finally "gives up" eating memory, and opens.

EXPECTED RESULT

It should open normally

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS

Operating System: EndeavourOS

I'm on a desktop PC with two monitors in a PRIME setup (Nvidia + Intel) and
also was getting the same powerdevil restart loop (which caused micro-freezes
every X seconds)

[dolphin] [Bug 468673] New: Memory leak when pasting files in administrato mode

2023-04-19 Thread Jaime Antonio Gonzalez
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=468673

Bug ID: 468673
Summary: Memory leak when pasting files in administrato mode
Classification: Applications
   Product: dolphin
   Version: 22.12.3
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: dolphin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: enigma1052...@gmail.com
CC: kfm-de...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

I wanted to get the new Partition Manager icon so badly that I downloaded it
from gitlab, and went to the specified path: /usr/share/icons/breeze/apps/48/
which I needed to open in admin mode to be able to paste the icon there. Less
than 30 seconds after pasting it, RAM usage skyrocketed and computer froze.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

1. Right click a file and select "copy" (you can try with a svg icon, like I
did)
2. Open a protected path like /usr/share/icons/
3. Right click in an empty space and select open as administrator
4. Paste the icon/file, you will be prompted to put your password
5. As soon as the copy operation finishes, memory usage starts to skyrocked
leading to a computer lockup

OBSERVED RESULT

Computer totally frozen because the system runs out of RAM

EXPECTED RESULT

It shouldn't leak memory so much and so fast.

I got a new round of updates on my main computer and now it deleted Lutris, at
least it kept my games and preferences, so reinstalling Lutris did the trick.
Looks like everything that is related to wine is suffering the side effects of
whatever is going on.

I went ahead and ended up with a dependency nightmare and no desktop.

I had to do this commands in order in a tty (ALT+F2)

sudo dpkg --remove --force-remove-reinstreq neon-desktop

sudo dpkg --remove --force-remove-reinstreq plasma-desktop

sudo dpkg --configure -a

sudo pkcon install libharfbuzz-0b

sudo pkcon install plasma-desktop

sudo pkcon install neon-desktop

sudo pkcon install sddm

sudo reboot now

And I got my desktop back! I've read another guide and didn't work for me. So
YMMV.

[plasmashell] [Bug 460912] New: Memory leak when notifications appear or System Monitor is opened

2022-10-23 Thread Jaime Antonio Gonzalez
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=460912

Bug ID: 460912
Summary: Memory leak when notifications appear or System
Monitor is opened
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.26.1
  Platform: Neon
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Notifications
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: enigma1052...@gmail.com
CC: k...@privat.broulik.de
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY

A memory leak occurs when certain things are done, mainly when notifications
arrive, they have visual artifacts (mainly blinking) and memory usage begins to
rise.

This happens only when using 3D accelerated drivers (either mesa-amber i915-dri
or mesa i915-gallium), using software renderer (llvmpipe) doesn't cause the
issue. I need to kill plasmashell to recoup said memory.

Something similar was reported at the Manjaro forum
(https://forum.manjaro.org/t/plasma-systemmonitor-broken-in-vm-when-3d-in-vbox-enabled/88990),
just to note, I also have the other issues mentioned there: the red background
in certain items and keeping the system monitor open for a couple minutes fill
up the ram until closed.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

Trigger a notification or open the System Monitor (best way to see the behavior
is to open them from the terminal and use top in a separate tab to see the
memory usage)

OBSERVED RESULT

Memory usage goes up quickly, notifications take more time to fill up the RAM,
System monitor does it fast.

This is what the terminal outputs when running plasmashell or
plasma-systemmonitor from it: (it just spams this a lot)

shader compilation failed:
"error: Too many fragment shader default uniform block components\nerror: Too
many fragment shader uniform components\n"

QOpenGLShaderProgram::uniformLocation(toAngle): shader program is not linked
QOpenGLShader::link: error: Too many fragment shader default uniform block

error: Too many fragment shader uniform components

EXPECTED RESULT

Memory usage should't increase too much.
