[konsole] [Bug 460434] New: konsole crashes after editing when vim is opened from gui apps (Autokey, Dolphin)

2022-10-14 Thread Jeff Tratt
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=460434

Bug ID: 460434
Summary: konsole crashes after editing when vim is opened from
gui apps (Autokey, Dolphin)
Classification: Applications
   Product: konsole
   Version: 22.08.1
  Platform: Neon
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Keywords: drkonqi
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: konsole-de...@kde.org
  Reporter: jtr...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

Application: konsole (22.08.1)

Qt Version: 5.15.6
Frameworks Version: 5.98.0
Operating System: Linux 5.15.0-50-generic x86_64
Windowing System: X11
Distribution: KDE neon User - 5.26
DrKonqi: 5.26.0 [KCrashBackend]

-- Information about the crash:
Autokey has link to open script in external edit which open vim in konsole for
me. Closing vim (:qa) closes konsole fine, but drkonqi crash dialog pops up.
Same when "open with vim" from Dolphin. Everything works fine and no data loss,
just a drkonqi crash report dialog pops up.

The crash can be reproduced every time.

flatpak update
completes within seconds (at least if there are no updates).

I now start Discover with this command:
  plasma-discover --backends

my current home drive is a regular HHD, but that would a serious concern for an
SSD for someone who checks updates regularly.

Hope that helps .

While I may not understand the severity of this problem, my initial thought is
that these type of items should be at least allowed to be moved, resized, etc.
When a display problem occurs such as a new install and something gets stuck in
horrible resolution, being able to move or resize a popup/notification or
whatever is in the way can be critical. So, while no one wants some window
maximizing on a generic click, removing the ability altogether, I would advise
against. Again, apologize if I misunderstand the context.

If you tried the kludge I recommended which sets the files to immutable you
will need to undo that.

Run the following to make the files editable:
sudo chattr -i ~/.config/kglobalshortcutsrc
sudo chattr -i ~/.config/khotkeysrc

the '-i' will remove the immutable bit so the system can edit these files.

Great find, Heu Fui. Your solution survived reboot and kept the change I made
manually. Much better solution! Thank you.

You're welcome. You will need to run the following to make the files editable
in the future:
sudo chattr -i ~/.config/kglobalshortcutsrc
sudo chattr -i ~/.config/khotkeysrc

the '-i' will remove the immutable bit. As immutable nothing can edit these
files ;)

Edit the file ~/.config/khotkeysrc
then in terminal enter
sudo chattr +i ~/.config/khotkeysrc

Verify the file is immutable:
lsattr ~/.config/khotkeysrc
i-e- ~/.config/khotkeysrc
The "i" validates the file is immutable.

You may need to edit both files for this kludge to work. I didn't try editing
only the one file.

I've edited:
~/.config/kglobalshortcutsrc
~/.config/khotkeysrc
and changed the hotkey to what I want. When I reboot and log into tty F1 and
look at the files they are what I edited. When I login to the gui the hotkey is
replaced with "none" in both files.

As a kludge I did this:
sudo chattr +i ~/.config/kglobalshortcutsrc
sudo chattr +i ~/.config/khotkeysrc
to make the files immutable. Reboot and login now keeps the hotkeys and they
work. I don't know what is overwriting the files on login.

I'm on up to date kde neon plasma.

[frameworks-kdeclarative] [Bug 429241] Plasmashell crashes in DaysModel::update() on every login

2020-11-18 Thread Jeff Tratt

I've attached the file that originally had 'Event Calendar' in it. I
renamed it and let the system recreate it, then copied over a couple of
things from the backup. I'd be happy to remove it and add things manually
if it will help. I'm not using event calendar at the moment, since it was
making the entire panel disappear.

Application: plasmashell (5.20.3)

Qt Version: 5.15.1
Frameworks Version: 5.75.0
Operating System: Linux 5.4.0-54-generic x86_64
Windowing system: X11
Distribution: KDE neon User Edition 5.20

-- Information about the crash:
- What I was doing when the application crashed:

After upgrading the other day my taskbar disappeared. I had to remove Event
Calendar to get my taskbar back; before removing I had edited
~/.config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc to find the applet that was
causing the problem.

I've installed 2 security updates this morning and rebooted and it is still
crashing on login. There are no other updates available at this time.

The crash can be reproduced every time.
