[dolphin] [Bug 398908] Dolphin uses up huge amounts of memory

2019-11-03 Thread Marc González Majoral
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=398908

--- Comment #39 from Marc González Majoral ---
I'm still sad about it but I won't be able to help, this bug was the nail in
the coffin that made me switch to another DE after almost 20 years using KDE.

What I can say though is that, before giving up, I tried a couple more things,
like using Krusader, and the bug also happens there and in the KDialog that
appears when, for example, you want to upload a file to a website with the web
browser (Chrome in my case). The constant location bar update/rewrite to the
current location also happens in those instances, so I'm pretty sure this bug
has to do with that constant updating and the filebrowsing library/kpart.

Good luck with it, I hope you get it solved because it's a dealbreaker.

As a last comment, I will say that if I try to manually write something into
the location bar (where you can edit the folder path), it constantly gets
updated to the current folder, so it's impossible to write anything. Might have
something to do with the leak.

If you don't know what I'm talking about it's fine, you probably are not using
Docker. Was just trying to see if we have something specific in common to help
find the cause of the leak.

I tried disabling the previews both through the toolbar button and unchecking
all the checkboxes in the preferences. I even tried killing the thumbnail.so
process just in case. The leak still happens.

I of course have to use another file manager too, this is just unusable.

So, this has been happening to me for some time now too.

Today, after like 30 hours of uptime, my 3-open-tab Dolphin instance that
should use like 40MB was using 3.2GB of RAM. If I restart Dolphin and open
KSysGuard, I can see how the memory usage increases at a rate of like 300KB per
second for no reason, even with just 1 tab open.

This started happening to me in Kubuntu 19.04 after one of the latest upgrades
in the Backports PPA (arround June, July or August, I don't know for sure.) It
made me ppa-purge the backports one and Dolphin was usable again.

Now I've just updated to Kubuntu 19.10 and enabled the Backports PPA straight
again, and the issue is happening again. I didn't check if without the PPA
happens too, but I bet it does.

Just out of curiosity, Knut do you have docker devices in the Devices section?
Also I have uninstalled Kdenlive because I don't use it, and the problem
persists after restarting Dolphin.

  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
When you try to connect to any service with a URL including a password, if the
password contains a question mark (?) the entire URL gets wrongly converted to
the http protocol for some reason, even if it's already an http:// one.
If you try to escape the question mark a-la urlencode(), the connection works
but then it sends the wrong password, because it's not decoded. So currently
it's not possible to connect to any service using an URL with a password
containing a question mark.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Try to connect to "ftp://test:pass?w...@example.com;

OBSERVED RESULT
The URL gets converted to "http://ftp/test:pass/?w...@example.com; for some
reason and then Dolphin tries to open your web browser.

EXPECTED RESULT
An ftp connection is attempted with the correct password (including the "?").

without Kontact, it works properly. I ended up uninstalling Kontact, because it
also made Akregator unusable. At least in my case, Kontact is completely broken
in 18.04.

  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED

 Component: general
  Assignee: kdepim-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: gons...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

After updating to 5.5.3, I can't do anything with articles.

Even with any article selected, the "Article" entry in the window's menu bar
has all its elements greyed out, and when I right-click any article, the
contextual menu doesn't show up. Also I can't use any article-related
shortcuts, like 'Supr' for deleting, 'Return' and the variants to open the
articles, etc...

I'm also missing the contextual menu when I right click any feed in the feeds
list panel.

This basically means akregator is unusable for me right now. I can only get new
articles or create new feeds.

[akregator] [Bug 256034] Feed content is displayed with date 07.02.2106 07:28

2017-10-25 Thread Marc González Majoral
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=256034

--- Comment #22 from Marc González Majoral <gons...@gmail.com> ---
So, after updating to 5.5.3, akregator has been a mess, and I noticed something
that maybe could help with this issue.

A weird bug happened to me causing that, after updating all feeds, all new
articles appeared with no date on them (empty column). After a reboot, all the
articles I tried to read with an empty date now appear as 07.02.2106 07:28.

The conclusion is that apparently, if there's a problem with setting the date
when getting/reading a new article (which seems it should never happen, why not
just set the current date then?), for some reason it gets the 07.02.2106 one
(that seems like a maximum possible integer value for a timestamp or something,
don't you think?).

Hope it helps, this has to be one of the longest running bugs in kdepim, and
still unconfirmed for some reason.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=379584

--- Comment #1 from Marc González Majoral <gons...@gmail.com> ---
Today I realized that the multiple selection delete works, and that the problem
is that when you click on a message in the list, it gets "deselected" or
"defocused" for some reason, which didn't happen before. So if you for example
try to select multiple messages by holding Shift and clicking on one of them,
they are not "focused" until you do it twice. What's the point of this
behaviour?

After updating to 5.4.3 (16.12.3?), the "Delete (Shift + Supr)" shortcut that
I've been using since KDE3 stopped working in the messages list.

Apparently there's another "Delete the message" shortcut that I tried setting
to (Shift + Supr), but then it won't let me delete more than one message at a
time and also it will always show a popup asking for confirmation, without an
option to "Not show again".

Extremely annoying regression sadly.

When reading my feeds, I always go keyboard-only navigation. So I was used to
use both "+" for next unread and left/right arrows for prev/next articles.

Sadly, after updating to Kontact 5.4.3 (Applications 16.12.3?), when using the
keys to navigate through articles, I can't use "Av pag" or "Re pag" to scroll
down and up the articles themselves without clicking to "focus" them (on the
article's box). This is very unpleasant. It also happens if you go to any
article by clicking on its name in the article's list.

I guess it has to do with the change to using QWebEngine. I hope this can be
fixed but it will be hard to wait 6 months for the next distro release :(
