Bug ID: 480752
Summary: Night Color applet interacts weirdly with middle click
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kdeplasma-addons
   Version: 5.93.0
  Platform: Other

  Priority: NOR
 Component: Night Color Control
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: tinozzo...@gmail.com
CC: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org, vlad.zahorod...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

In Plasma 5, middle-clicking the night color applet simply toggles it on and
off.

However, now it toggles some strange states:
- In the "normal" state (when you start Plasma), with left-clicks you can
toggle night color on and off, as usual.
- In the "weird" state, with left-clicks you can toggle "Not running" and
"Off", both of which have night color disabled.

(With "left-clicks", I mean opening the applet's window and clicking on the
toggle there)

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Have night color set up
2. Middle-click the applet
3. Try changing the state with left-clicks

OBSERVED RESULT
Left clicks toggle between "Not running" and "Off", until you middle-click the
applet again

EXPECTED RESULT
Middle-clicks should be the same as left-clicks, with the difference that you
skip opening the applet's window. (Just like in Plasma 5)

[plasmashell] [Bug 472539] New: Speaker icon appears on applications that have the same name of the audio context name

2023-07-23 Thread Martino Fontana
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=472539

Bug ID: 472539
Summary: Speaker icon appears on applications that have the
same name of the audio context name
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.27.6
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
Component: Task Manager and Icons-Only Task Manager
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: tinozzo...@tutanota.com
  Target Milestone: 1.0

Created attachment 160473
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=160473=edit
Task manager screenshot, showing the speaker icon on Dolphin file manager due
to Dolphin Emulator

SUMMARY
When an application is playing audio, the task manager will put a speaker icon
over the app. (Which can be clicked to mute it.)
However, if there's an application that has the same name of the context name
of the audio source, both applications will have the speaker icon.

For example, let's take Dolphin, the GameCube/Wii emulator. Its context name
for the audio (when using the Cubeb audio backend) is simply "Dolphin", meaning
that the speaker icon will also appear over Dolphin, the file manager, even
though it may even not be open.

Note: this doesn't apply to having multiple instances. See the image attached,
where:
- The first mpv is playing music, the second is not.
- The first Dolphin Emulator instance is playing a game, and Dolphin file
manager is "inheriting" the speaker icon (even though it's not even open).
- However, the second Dolphin Emulator instance is not playing any games, and
it doesn't have the speaker icon (as it should).

(You could argue that Dolphin Emulator should use "Dolphin Emulator" for the
audio context name, so I made this PR:
https://github.com/dolphin-emu/dolphin/pull/12063. With it, the file manager
doesn't have the speaker icon anymore. Still, it doesn't mean that there isn't
a KDE bug to be solved.)

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
I can't find any other example of conflicting names like this, meaning that you
need to have Dolphin Emulator set up to reproduce it.
You can find an unofficial AppImage here:
https://github.com/qurious-pixel/dolphin/releases

1. Have Dolphin (file manager) pinned on the task manager;
2. Open Dolphin Emulator;
3. Go to Config > Audio and select "Cubeb" as the Audio Backend;
4. Make Dolphin Emulator play sound by playing a game.
  * If you don't have any game, you can go to Tools > Perform Online System
Update, then Tools > Load Wii System Menu.

OBSERVED RESULT
Dolphin (file manager) will have a speaker icon on top of it.

EXPECTED RESULT
Dolphin (file manager) shouldn't have a speaker icon on top of it.

[okular] [Bug 468142] New: Okular tools menu: align expanded options to the right

2023-04-04 Thread Martino Fontana
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=468142

Bug ID: 468142
Summary: Okular tools menu: align expanded options to the right
Classification: Applications
   Product: okular
   Version: 22.12.3
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: okular-de...@kde.org
  Reporter: tinozzo...@tutanota.com
  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 157845
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=157845=edit
How the tool manu is now, and mockup on how it should be fixed.

SUMMARY
When Okular's window width is too small, the tools that can't fit in the tools
menu are replaced by a button that expands the menu vertically to allow you to
use them.
This button is on the right side of the tools menu. However, the tools shown
after clicking on it are aligned to the left. This makes it cumbersome to use
these tools.
It doesn't help that if the mouse cursor is moved outside the tools menu, the
menu will automatically collapse: basically, the user has to click a button on
the right side of the UI, and move the cursor to the left with precision. This
is not good UX.

It's particularly noticeable with the Zoom tool: the window width might make
"Zoom Out" visible and "Zoom In" hidden. When expanding the tools menu, you get
the "Zoom Out" button on the right, and the "Zoom In" button on the left: they
are on the opposite sides of the UI.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Okular
2. Reduce the window width so that "Zoom In" is hidden
3. Expand the tools menu

OBSERVED RESULT
"Zoom Out" and "Zoom In" are on the opposite sides of the UI

EXPECTED RESULT
"Zoom In" should be aligned to the right, so that these buttons are close.
(Same with every other button hidden by the short window width)

The issue is kinda solved on Wayland: because there the screen fades off slowly
(instead of instantly), the user has plenty of time to release the buttons used
for the shortcut (but if they hold them long enough, then the screen will turn
back on).

(On X11, about `xset dpms force off`, because the terminal takes a little time
to process the instruction, you can have the screen stay off if you release
Enter fast enough)

[plasmashell] [Bug 467765] New: Application Launcher search, highlighted item may not be the first

2023-03-24 Thread Martino Fontana
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=467765

Bug ID: 467765
Summary: Application Launcher search, highlighted item may not
be the first
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.27.3
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Application Launcher (Kickoff)
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: tinozzo...@tutanota.com
CC: mikel5...@gmail.com, noaha...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY
When you open the Application Launcher and type with the keyboard to search for
something, you expect the first item in the list to be highlighted, so that you
can press Enter to get what you are looking for.
However, under certain conditions (see below), the highlighted item will not be
the first, even if you didn't move the mouse, which will make you open the
wrong app.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open the Application Launcher
2. Type on the keyboard to search for something
3. Move the cursor to an item that isn't the first
4. Press the hotkey to close the Application Launcher
5. Open the Application Launcher again, and type with the keyboard again

OBSERVED RESULT
What happens depends on where the cursor is right now:
- If you moved the cursor is out of the way, then the Nth item will be
highlighted, where N depends on which item was highlighted when you closed the
Application Launcher before.
- If the cursor is in the launcher, then it will select the item over which it
hovers, even if you haven't moved it.

(This doesn't always happen, it's a bit inconsistent. It seems to happen more
often when there is no application open on the virtual desktop, and when the
Application Launcher is opened (the first time) by clicking on it, instead of
using a hotkey).

EXPECTED RESULT
If you don't move the cursor, the highlighted item is always the first on the
list.

[plasmashell] [Bug 467764] New: Application Launcher search, highlighted item may not be the first

2023-03-24 Thread Martino Fontana
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=467764

Bug ID: 467764
Summary: Application Launcher search, highlighted item may not
be the first
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.27.3
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Application Launcher (Kickoff)
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: tinozzo...@tutanota.com
CC: mikel5...@gmail.com, noaha...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY
When you open the Application Launcher and type with the keyboard to search for
something, you expect the first item in the list to be highlighted, so that you
can press enter to get what you searched for.
However, in specific conditions (see below), the highlighted item will be
different even if you don't move the mouse: if the user has the habit of
opening the app by pressing Enter, that will make them open an app they didn't
intend to open.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open the Application Launcher
2. Type with the keyboard to search for something
3. Hover the cursor to an item that isn't the first
4. Leaving the cursor on this position, press the hotkey to close the
Application Launcher
5. Open the Application Launcher again, and type with the keyboard again

OBSERVED RESULT
What happens depends on where the cursor is right now:
- If you moved the cursor is out of the way, then the Nth item will be
highlighted, with N depending on which item was highlighted when you closed the
application launcher before.
- If the cursor is in the launcher, then it will highlight the item it's
hovering, even if you didn't move it.

(It doesn't always happen, it's a bit inconsistent. It seems it happens more
likely without any open application on the virtual desktop, and if the
Application Launcher is opened (the first time) by clicking on it, instead of
using a hotkey)

EXPECTED RESULT
If you don't move the cursor, the highlighted item is always the first on the
list.

[kwin] [Bug 467288] New: Dragged window stops being translucent if virtual desktop changes while dragging

2023-03-13 Thread Martino Fontana
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=467288

Bug ID: 467288
Summary: Dragged window stops being translucent if virtual
desktop changes while dragging
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: 5.27.2
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: effects-various
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: tinozzo...@tutanota.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
With the desktop effect "Translucency", windows are transparent while they are
being dragged. If, however, the virtual desktop is changed while dragging a
window, it won't be translucent anymore, until it's released and dragged again.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. In Desktop Effects, enable Translucency
2. Make sure that virtual desktops are set up.
3. Drag a window, and while dragging it, change virtual desktop (it's easier
with Switch desktop on edge (in Screen edges))

OBSERVED RESULT
The window won't be translucent anymore.

EXPECTED RESULT
The window should stay translucent.

[plasmashell] [Bug 456600] New: Discover is pinned to the Task Manager by default even if not installed

2022-07-11 Thread Martino Fontana
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=456600

Bug ID: 456600
Summary: Discover is pinned to the Task Manager by default even
if not installed
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.25.2
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
Component: Task Manager and Icons-Only Task Manager
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: tinozzo...@tutanota.com
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY
When starting Plasma for the first time (or when applying the Desktop Layout of
the Breeze theme), Discover is pinned to the Task Manager even if it's not
installed.
This results in a generic icon that gives an error when clicked.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Uninstall Discover;
2. Start Plasma for the first time (or Settings>Global Theme>Breeze>Apply
Desktop Layout);
3. Look at the Task Manager.

OBSERVED RESULT
Discover is pinned, despite not being installed.

EXPECTED RESULT
Discover shouldn't be pinned, or there should be an alternative app (like when
Firefox isn't installed, Kate is in its place).

[plasma-browser-integration] [Bug 455957] New: Improve failed download notification

2022-06-26 Thread Martino Fontana
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=455957

Bug ID: 455957
   Summary: Improve failed download notification
   Product: plasma-browser-integration
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Firefox
  Assignee: k...@privat.broulik.de
  Reporter: tinozzo...@tutanota.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

When a Firefox download fails, plasma-browser-integration sends a notification
that has two problems:
1. The notification is persistent: it never goes away, even if you retry the
download. This means if the download fails again, you'll have multiple
notifications for the same failed download.
2. The notification should offer the option to retry the download, instead of
having to do it by manually returning to Firefox.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
Simply have a download fail. An easy way to simulate this is:
1. Create a useless folder;
2. Download a file in that folder;
3. Delete the folder before the download finishes;
4. You'll get an error after the download finishes.

Seems like your laptop is a ThinkPad.
My laptop is an IdeaPad (which does have a keyboard backlight) and the folder
name is different (`/sys/class/leds/platform::kbd_backlight`).
Still, the fact that your folder exists in the first place seems like a kernel
bug, you should report it to https://bugzilla.kernel.org. (Product: drivers,
Component: Platform_x86, if I'm not wrong)
Also, for issues like this, you should say what your laptop model is.

This might be a kernel problem instead of Powerdevil's.
I think that Powerdevil is simply checking that
`/sys/class/leds/platform::kbd_backlight` exists. If it does, then it's a
problem of the kernel module that your laptop is using.

I think this should also be enabled for systems that do have the PrtSc key.
Some laptops (like mine, Lenovo IdeaPad 5 14ARE05) had the brightest idea that
PrtSc should not press PrtSc (that would make sense), instead it presses
Win+Shift+S. To make it actually press PrtSc you have to hold Fn, regardless of
whether the Fn Lock is enabled or disabled.
If Win+Shift+S support was enabled, then I wouldn't have to hold Fn every
single time.

Maybe this feature should be a keyboard option? (That would change the product
and component of this to systemsettings -> kcm_keyboard.)

If in Configure>Configure Dolphin>Startup>Show on startup you select to go to a

(Curiously, if you select to go where you were previously (which is the
default, and not relevant for this issue), "back" allow you to go home.)
